Everything was clean and room service received every day without asking. Very hospitable staff and liked that they organised a traditional activity.
A bit far to walk to the train station.

The hotel was in the middle of a beautiful street in Gion district. Coming out and walking around was so tranquil and peaceful with old style Kyoto homes. The property itself was super cute and clean. The best part was the on-site doggies that greeted you with lots of kisses. They had a maiko performance on Saturday for the guests of the hotel. We were able to interact with the performer, played games, danced and there was even karaoke! The staff would provide amazing fruits and snacks everyday. They have a massage chair if you are tired of all the walking and the best perk is that they did our laundry while we were out exploring. The staff were super sweet and though communication was a little challenge we always managed to get everything answered using apps on our phone. We usually stay in 4-5 star hotels but the dogs on site convinced me to stay here and I have to say this hotel was a better experience than any 5 star hotel we have stayed in. I would 100% recommend this place for couples, singles and friends traveling to Kyoto. We were so sad to leave this place but hope we can come back and stay here again.

Liked nothing about this place. This place is horrible and the Owners have got no sense of hospitality.
I am just putting out complaint in writing after our phone conversation. We had a horrible experience at Kyoto Gion Sano Ryoken accommodation. The old owner literally told us he is going to hurt us if we don’t pay money and will throw us out in the middle of the night not caring that we had 3 children in the group. We felt terrified after he became loud and aggressive towards us and even shouted on my wife. He started to thump the table in front of him threatening to throw us all out in the middle of the night.
We left in The middle of the night so we don’t have to see him again. We made a booking for Crowne Plaza and left straight after confirmation.
Please consider this a strong complaint for the actions of this man. He was upset because he first charged us for kids 29400 Yen when in our booking it clearly states that kids under 11 years are free. He got really upset when we showed him the booking and refunded at that point. So we went out and when we came back around 11 PM he was waiting and was really angry and demanded we pay him or something bad will happen to us. He produced a typed english letter saying we have booked through an agent and this booking was not made through booking.com.
I would like to request you to cancel his memberships with booking.com and refund our money we paid at the property as well as compensate us for the tragic experience we had on our holiday which ruined our experience.

This was such a wonderful place to stay. Very clean, an excellent location. The highlight was the staff, so friendly and warm. They took care of everything, and stocked our room with fruits and food. They took care of all our needs. And there were two very friendly dogs.
Everything was fine.

All the rave reviews are true: It felt like home away from home. We felt truly taken care of. The owners were so so so kind. The dogs were adorable. The futons were incredibly comfy. The room was clean and spacious and smelled like Tatami. We had the twin deluxe room which had a nice little view of the streets outside. Location was just close enough to Gion center to be convinient but quiet. The owners don't speak much English, but that's completely fair since I don't speak much Japanese. 😁 They were very patient with translation apps and went above and beyond to help us with whatever we needed. They helped us so kindly with our food needs. We rented bikes for two days and were able to park them overnight at the ryokan after calling ahead. What else... The yukata provided were crisp and clean. We wish we could have stayed for longer. I cannot say enough nice things about this ryokan.

The staff was super sweet and they always left pastries and goodies in our room. They also arrange to have you meet a maiko (Geiko or geisha in training) and we really enjoyed that. They also had wonderful dogs at the property, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. It was our favorite place to stay in Japan. We would definitely stay there again.
Nothing we didn’t like— we loved it!

Great value, clean, quiet, and great location. Walking distance to many sights. Bonus of seeing a Maiko performance at hotel as well! Staff is exceptionally sweet.
"Well-loved" (dated), including a smell (from cooking maybe?) throughout the hotel.

It’s very cute, calming, and well-put together. The tanuki statue in the front put a smile on my face. It definitely felt like a warm welcome from Japan.

Had a beautiful stay and experience at this lovely Ryokan. The owners and staff are very friendly and go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. Rooms are very clean and I loved the setup. Beds are super comfortable. Really appreciated all the kindness and hospitality during our stay. They have two handsome and calm dogs that we absolutely loved! We had a Maiko performance one night which was very nice. Location is perfect in Gion and walking distance to a lot of attractions and shopping. Very close to Public transport as well. Overall we had an amazing stay here and we are definitely coming back to stay here next time we are in Kyoto 🥰

The service of the staff and owner were wonderful, I would say it was the very BEST I have ever had. The hotel is in perfect location, just 3 mins away from the main temples and traditional Gion shopping area. The room is very spacious, expecially compare to the photos, we are a family of 4 (all grownups) and were a bit worried about the size of the room before booking, but actually it it much more bigger, with a spacious living room and a big bedroom. The snacks and fruits provided when we come back everyday was warmhearted. And the room was clean and the tatami+ blanket was comfortable. Would stay again next time in Kyoto.

The hosts and staff were so kind, happy to help and polite and friendly.
The room was immaculate and we came home to treats like fruit and pastries. Language was never a concern. The location was perfect. Walking distance to downtown, Gion and many sights. Trains and buses close too. We loved the area. Stay here! You won’t regret it.
Nothing at all. Couldn’t have been better.

The owners of this property were very helpful in allowing us to check in early when the room is ready, serving welcome fruits and drinks pleasantly, even helped mend my shoe sole with super glue ! Love their ever friendly 4 dogs (Leo, Gion, Tora and I can't rem the last), approachable and adds to the memorable experience for myself as a dog lover.
My stay also happened to be a wed night which coincided with the Maiko performance at 830pm, with beer/tea and peanuts served. Truly cultural experience when we gained an insight on what the training and job of Maiko entails.
Short walk to Qing shui shi shrine , and 3 min walk to Main Street with many dining options.
Nothing really.
