We had a wonderful time at the Cards’ camp. Accommodations were ample and the pond is beautiful and great for swimming and canoeing. The hosts were lovely and responsive. Definitely recommend.

We felt very much at home here--at a well-supplied home, in fact. Most of the time we were here, the lake was very peaceful. We had everything we needed at this house to take advantage of our location. The owner is not intrusive but at the same time she is a fun person to talk to and goes out of her way to be helpful. Our young adults enjoyed sleeping in the tree house. I have no doubt that if we need a rental in this neck of the woods again, we would return to this one.

Our stay at Back of the Moon was fabulous. The view of the lake is amazing from the deck, and the buzzing of the hummingbirds and the bald eagles we saw just added to the experience. Everyone enjoyed going out in the kayaks, and the camp fire at night was relaxing. The house itself is very spacious and clean, and is very well stocked for anything you may need. The just , Sharon was a delight as well. Great place to bring the family, and Acadia NP is only an hour away!

This place is absolutely beautiful. From the stillness of the early morning to the afternoon breeze off the lake to evenings around the fire, its the sort of place where memories are made. With its private dock, canoe, kayaks, and paddleboat there's plenty to keep you occupied and engaged. Or just sit on the deck and soak up the sun. Pergaps the best thing i can say about our stay is that my phone got wet so it wouldnt charge, and i did not care one little bit! I was enjoying myself far too much to care about missed calls. You wont regret a visit here.

Had a great experience. The cottage was very clean and the host even provided drinking water for us. We used the kayaks and had a blast.
It is a bit of a drive from Bar Harbor and/or Acadia but it honestly wasn’t a big issue. It was nice to go into the park and town and then have a place to come back to unwind at. Beautiful view of the lake out the back. All around great.
10/10 best cootage ever.

The spot was lovely, the host seemed nice enough but the house had a glad plug-in in every outlet and so many sentef trash bags, as well as the dryer going so when you went outside to catch your breath you were bombarded with the overwhelming sent of dryer sheets! Not relaxing or pleasant!!!

We are so fortunate to stay in Mrs. Card’s camp. It’s perfect in every way. We cannot wait to return next summer! Thank you, Mrs. Card!

We stayed here while working in the area and we loved it here. I definitely want to come back with my family. The lake was gorgeous, the house is cozy and it's in such a quiet location.

We loved our stay at Back of the Moon cottage! The cottage is very comfortable with every amenity you could possibly need. Breezes from the pond and fans in every room kept the temperature cool even on the hottest days. We visited Acadia, Bar Harbor and discovered local restaurants. Enjoyed popovers, lobster and red hot dogs. Sat on the deck and was entertained by loons, hummingbirds, a jet skier doing wheelies and a nearby bald eagle. Loved the outdoor shower! Didn’t have time to kayak or canoe so hopefully next visit. Sharon is an excellent host and easy to contact with questions.
Best Maine vacation in years!

Very nice place with the homey feeling. We had everything we needed. My kids enjoyed learning about the card family with all the memorabilia around. We spent most of our time in bar harbor and Acadia national park. And enjoyed a quiet camp in the evening

Nestled away from the beaten path, Sharon's cottage is a hidden gem. The cottage has ALL the amenities you and your guests will need we were able to make our own lobster boil on premises. Meal prep was/is easy in a well stocked kitchen. Days were spent with a fishing pole in hand and swimming in the clear pond waters. The availability of the canoe and kayaks were a great bonus for enjoying the water. In our catch and release we were able to land various sized small mouth bass, tons of sunfish, and one surprise catfish from the docks. Nights were spent around the campfire roasting s'mores and listening to loons. Cell coverage allowed for setting up a personal hotspot for those working remotely. We had a great time and loved being able to travel to Schoodic or Mount Desert Island easily...all with neighboring towns and restaurants within a short drive. Truly a great quiet location with which to recharge...and be sure to enjoy the outdoor shower as well!

This is a classic camp on a beautiful body of water. We're from the lake country area of Wisconsin (between Milwaukee and Madison). This is as big as some of the bigger lakes in our area, so don't let the term pond, scare you off. Sharon was a GREAT host, who recommended some beautiful hikes. Schoodic Mtn was one of our favorites of the week, and just minutes from the camp. We also visited Bar Harbor, and hiked in Acadia National Park. Winter Harbor Lobster Co-Op was a great place to pick up some lobster for dinner. Campfires at night provided the perfect way to end the day's activities. Everything you could need is here for you to use. Thanks, Sharon for being a great host and opening up your place to us!

We swam, kayaked, canoed, hiked, biked, read on the deck, ran on the trails, took the ferry to Bar Harbor. Sharon's cabin was perfect for our intergenerational family get away.

Five adults had the loveliest of stays at Back of the Moon Cottage. We just loved the call of loons, the proximity to water off the beaten path, the warmth of Sharon, dinners on the deck, access to kayaks, games and laughter on a rainy day, visits to Schoodic and Mt Desert, Schoodic Head trail, Schoodic beach and the Granite Gallery in Sullivan. Don’t hesitate to book this lovely spot and May your adventures there be wonderful!

We had a great time at this cottage. The best part was the lake . It was wonderful to be so close to this beautiful body of water. We enjoyed sitting on the deck (which has comfortable sitting arrangements and is beautifully decorated with solar lights) and taking in the view. We all loved the experience of staying in a place that seemed so tucked away from urban settings. We went canoeing on the lake . Wanted to take a dip in the lake but missed the chance. The house is cozy and has just enough space for our family of four. It is clean and comfortable inside the house. And the owner has stocked up the place very well with everything you need in your daily life, from kitchen utensils, coffee, condiments , plates, cups to tolltaries, vanity mirror and hair dryer. The cottage has a tree house with bunk beds and an outside shower which are plus. It is situated down an unpaved , dirt road which should not be an issue (especially with a bigger vehicle or SUV) and in fact adds to its wilderness vibe. We wish to come back here again soon.

Awesome hideaway!
Had a fabulous 5-night stay at the Card Camp. Exceptionally clean while at the same time felt very comfortable and “at home”. Enjoyed all the family artifacts. Sharon was a great host, dropping off water before we even needed it. It’s so well-stocked/set up that you only need to bring your clothes and groceries. Loved the kayaks, canoe, and outdoor shower too. Hope to return in the future.

Acadia Family Vacation
We stayed 5 nights at the Back of the Moon cottage, and it was excellent. It was a jumping off point for our daily excursions to Acadia NP, Quobby Lighthouse, Cutler,, Shoranadic Byway, Bar Harbor and many other places. It was very relaxing returning to the 'off the beaten path' cottage to relax and enjoy the deck and a listen to the loons after of long day of touring. The family enjoyed 'lots' of seafood during the week (the lobster rolls and carb rolls were wonderful), in the area, and even we grilled burgers at the cottage one night.
The cottage had everything we needed including comfortable beds - a real plus after a long day.
Communications with the owner were timely and any questions we had where quickly answered.
If you don't mind being a little off the beaten path, I would highly recommend the Back of the Moon cottage to anyone - hopefully we will be able to return in the future and enjoy the lake a little more.
Thanks again for sharing your Back of the Moon cottage.

We loved the location and the cabin. It was clean and well stocked. The only downside was the hundreds of family photos everywhere.

Relaxing stay Downeast Maine
Gorgeous lake view setting in close proximity to Bar Harbor, Acadia, and surrounding areas. The cabin was well equipped with everything that you would need during your stay, and then some. Would highly recommend this lake house as an option if your chosen destination is in the vicinity.

Perfect peaceful getaway
Sharon's cottage is amazing. It's tucked away and offers an amazing sense of peace. We loved using the boats, fishing, listening to the loons and sitting at night as the waves crashed against the rocks. It was quaint and the perfect place to relax after visiting the beautiful sites of Acadia. I am thankful and feel very lucky that Sharon shared her cottage with us.

Magical Maine camp
Sharon's camp was perfect for our family's stay in Maine. The camp has everything you need during your stay, from laundry detergent to shampoo to condiments. Our young kids loved sleeping in the tree house and loft. The Maine nights were cool and we loved going sleep listening to the family of loons on the lake. The lake was warm and we spend all day swimming and jumping off the dock. The camp is less than 30 minutes from the Schoodic part of Acadia National Park, and we enjoyed hiking and biking in the park. Even closer to the camp, we hiked Schoodic Mountain. The lake was so quiet. We barely saw another person. We kayaked and canoed around the lake, including out to the floating raft with a high dive, water slide, and rope swing. Sharon was so accommodating and helpful. She took my nephews out on the pontoon boat and provided more accessible sleeping arrangements for my older parents. The hummingbirds were another highlight. The outdoor shower was perfect.

Enjoyed our first visit so much we decided to come back!
My wife and I stayed at The Card Camp last year for our 1st anniversary in August of 2020 and we enjoyed it so much we decided to come back for our 2nd but with the entire family this time. This included my 13 year old stepdaughter, 10 year old stepson and 4 month old daughter.
It was nice to see the kids' excitement when we arrived and the subsequent disconnect from their phone screens for the majority of our trip.
We took advantage of the kayaks and canoe this time to hang out on the pond for the first day and at the end of the trip, both kids said it was their favorite day of the trip. There is a platform out in the pond with a platform to jump, rope swing and slide off of that was a lot of fun for all of us. Also had a close encounter with a family of common loons where we were able to listen to their calls and observe while out on the water.
Outside of our time at the camp, we spent 3 days at Acadia National Park taking in the main sites on Mt Desert Island as well as spending an afternoon at Schoodic Point. Also did the nearby hike up Schoodic Mountain which was followed up with a quick dip at the beach.
Paired our visits to Acadia with some time in Bar Harbor for food and souvenirs. Stewman's Lobster Pound and Bar Harbor Lobster Co, Testa's were all very good.
Really is a great property to stay at and a beautiful part of the country to visit. I highly recommend and know that we will be back for another visit at some point.
Also, was happy to see the hummingbird action again. Sharon, you'll have to let me know if you manage to get one to eat from the hand feeder :)
Thanks again for allowing us to spend time at your place, greatly appreciated and enjoyed by the entire family!

Lovely time at the lake
We really enjoyed staying here. The water is nice and clear, and it's shallow for quite a ways out, so that's helpful if you have small children. The back deck is great, and it was fun to use the kayaks and canoe. Also, it's on a really quiet road, so it's a very peaceful setting. In addition, the owner is super nice and readily available to answer questions and any concerns.

This is a small, cute, well-maintained waterfront house with rustic kitchen, one indoor bathroom plus outdoor facilities (a heated outdoor shower and a portable toilet serviced weekly) and enough beds in the main building for six people. The deck and dock were great for dining and morning coffee. In my view, the surroundings are extraordinarily pretty.
This is a great place for flat water paddling, hiking, swimming, watching birds (eagles, loons, hummingbirds...) less frequently seen in urban and suburban settings. I thought it was a great home base for visiting coastal attractions (e.g. sightseeing tours, Acadia Park, seafood restaurants...). Bicycling appropriate for skilled riders is accessible directly from the property. Less challenging bicycling is accessible at Acadia Park.
Nearby are Schoodic Beach and some hiking trails. The section of Sunrise Trail near the house has soft sandy surface popular with ATV users, is suitable for ATV and foot traffic. Many areas were difficult to negotiate on my bicycle with 700x32 tires. Most bicyclists on road, cyclo cross, or hybrid bikes are going to spend a lot of their ride dismounting and pushing at soft beach-like sandy stretches so I suggest mountain bike type tires (1.75" or wider).
Back of the Moon is well off the beaten path. The tap water is not potable but the hostess delivers to the doorstep ample bottled water for drinking and cooking. It's well over a mile slow bumpy drive from the nearest paved road, plus another 4 miles or so on pavement to the nearest restaurant and a longer trip to the nearest store that has groceries. To me, the isolated location was a plus.
That said, the house is within very reasonable driving distance of Acadia National Park and associated attractions.
Congenial hostess Sharon was right up the road and checked in on us daily. We didn't lack anything. She won my approval.

Nice secluded camp on Flanders Pond!
Was well stocked with anything we needed.
Kids loved swimming off the dock and spent hours each day swimming, canoeing and fishing.
Sharon was accommodating and helpful with a nice balance between being available and letting us feel like we had our own space. Flanders Bay BBQ is right up the road with excellent brisket. Manageable drive to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor and plenty of other local attractions. Highly recommend!

Absolutely wonderful!
Backwoods, out of the hustle and bustle feel but close to things to do if you need that. We preferred to be right at the lake. We loved the fishing opportunity and peaceful atmosphere. We did venture into bar harbor and acadia and glad we did and we did a fishing charter through Acadian. Bar harborvand acadia was worth seeing but too busy for us. We couldn't wait to get back to the canoe and kayaks waiting for us at Flanders! We are already talking about coming back next year for a longer stay. We LOVED Maine! Lots of nice seafood places to venture out to for evening dinners! Sharon is a lovely lady and very kind!

A beautiful, peaceful place!
We really enjoyed our time on the pond - very quiet, peaceful! everything we needed was available for us - we loved just sitting on the deck and watching nature! We went to Acadia a couple of times and it was close enough! The only downside was the dirt road but that is because our car is very low.. (I understand the road is not the owners problem) -- I would highly recommend this location!!! Loved it!

Quite peaceful getaway...exactly what we were looking for!!!
My wife and I were looking for a spot to spend our 1st year anniversary after our initial plans fell through with all that us going on in the world.
Being forced to change plans was a blessing in disguise as it led to us booking a stay at Sharon’s cottage. Was so quiet and peaceful and within a reasonable driving distance to numerous activities. Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park - Mt Desert Island was about an hour drive with pretty scenery along the way. Acadia National Park - Schoodic Point was roughly 40 min or so and offered a lot smaller crowds and probably our favorite shoreline experience of the trip.
Sharon was great in making sure we arrived ok and stopped by to check on us and make sure we had everything we needed. Gave us a great recommendation for nearby hike/beach areas that we were glad we took advantage of.
Cottage was well equipped with everything you could want - cookware, barbecue grill, plenty of mugs/dishes, beach towels, fire pit, kayaks, etc.
Morning coffee was great off the deck with a lot of hummingbird activity (I couldn’t get enough) to entertain us. Night time was absolutely amazing with the stargazing and sounds of common loons in the area.
I could go on and on about how great our stay was...hope to have a return trip to the cottage again!!!
