El lugar
Baños sin puertas, el servicio de comida muy básico, caro para ser tan básico

Room was nice, beautiful beach and good options for dinner.
First room they gave us was the farthest from the beach and pool and it smelled moldy so I asked to change rooms. Not sure why they assigned us that room since we were seemingly the only quests. Hotel manager called us a taxi for our 6:15am trip to airport and the driver was very drunk. Swerving and looked like he was falling asleep. Terrifying! Also, they did not leave any lights in the courtyard/pool area on for our early morning travel, and there was no one around that I could see so I had to use my phone light to get around. Also, the shade fell off when we tried to close the shade.

Excellent breakfast and lunch. Dinner available next door. Huge beach and nice pool. Small, quiet hotel. Very spacious and attractive room.

The place was extremely quiet and perfect for a relaxing time. The property is located right at Playa Larga, so it's a few steps away from the sandy beaches. Pristine facilities and well maintained. The staff was very nice.
The room didn't have a fridge

The hotel was just on the sea
The location is far from the other beaches and activities

Great breakfast made to order. Pool was nice and location was remote and quiet.
Wifi wasn’t great but that’s kind of the point of being on vacation. Also bring bug spray! Lol

Casa Kau-Kan is one of the best kept secrets in Mexico.
Now hear me out on this.
We found this boutique hotel on Booking.com. I specifically was looking for places in Zihuatanejo, because I didn’t want the crowds, the cattle corral and corporate sameness of the Ixtapa all-inclusives.
The reviews we read and pictures we saw for Casa Kau-Kan doesn’t do it justice. We were amazed when we first got here. This is a true paradise on earth.
If you add the price of the room, plus what you pay for food and drinks, you still pay way less than for an all-inclusive with the all-you-can-eat gorge yourself till you become a stuffed turkey buffets.
And the bedrooms are spacious. The place is quiet. The people are friendly. And the beach is untouched by civilization.
If you want to recharge your batteries, meditate, and stay away from the noise and the crowds, this place is for you.
But if you want to socialize and meet new people, the fellow guests you meet here are so friendly, giving and sharing you’ll leave the hotel with a whole new set of friends!
One day I was walking to the beach with my morning coffee and I saw a herd of about 7 or 8 horses running down the beach, followed by a rancher rushing them along.
You can also walk down the beach a few minutes and go to a beachside restaurant and eat the best seafood in the world for less than $10.
But if you want to stay at the hotel and eat, the food is great - although the menu is limited. If you want a drink, the choices are also limited on drink selections. I recommend ordering the piña coladas. Ask for them “cargados” (with plenty of alcohol). They’re delicious, and after one you’re flying high.
Overall, this is my new favorite beach hotel. I’ll be staying here very often, and I recommend you do too.
The delivery time of food ordered. You have to order at least 45 minutes before you want to eat.

loved the beach setting and tranquility
only served breakfast and lunch. no dinner service except for pizza delivery or hamburgers. because location was remote, having dinner was a challenge

the situation right on the beach is spectacular… you can feel the pacific. the beach is secluded and not too many travelers find the way there. If you can do without service this is a dreamlike place…
The service is absolutely minimal… the free breakfast is a slice of toast with jam… all restaurants at the beach close at 18.00 … you need a car… the next town with plenty of very good choices is 15 min drive away. Rooms and facilities show some wear and tear…

Fresh fish every day. A huge eight mile beach with nobody on it. There is a fresh water lagoon with interesting wildlife. Hotel is beautiful and very comfortable. The population is fifty so it is certainly not touristy.
I am an ocean swimmer and the water is prone to riptides and tow making it tricky for swimminf

Clean, quiet, comfortable bed, consistent hot water, and most importantly safe.
Only serves breakfast and lunch with minimal drink options. No in room safe.

the place is great for disconnecting from the regular life as there is barely internet and no cellphone connection

It’s quietness and simplicity yet confortable
People are extremely nice and food delicious

Beautiful section of the beach away from the noise of Zihua.
Staff spoke very little English.
Room windows and doors had been left open allowing mosquitoes to come into the rooms. Staff was kind enough to light some citronella.

The small hotel is beautiful, comfortable with lots of style. The pool is extremely clean and very nice.
The description does NOT tell you that the hotel restaurant is NOT open for dinner. You are on your own. This is a VERY remote location and the 'local' beach vendors close at 6 or 630. There is a good and pricey (for Mexico) restaurant in the hotel next door, but you need to be ready to pay that price. The chef in the restaurant next door was great.
At Casa Kaukan we thought the marlin ceviche was good however the fish tacos were awful and we did not eat them. The staff didn't care, didn't ask (although they don't speak English) and there was no recourse. Oh well. The food is pricey too. They offer generic toast and coffee for breakfast and a PRICEY menu. I think they should offer more complimentary. I was disappointed at that. The beach establishments 0.5 km down the beach at the public access offer VERY reasonably priced and large filling breakfasts and lunch menus. We really enjoyed those.
The taxi ride/fare was not usual, as it is in Zihua but could be. When asked to call a taxi the main manager called this tour taxi in a giant SUV, instead of the 'regular' Zihua - Ixtapa white sedan taxi. Another person on the premises had called the 'regular' taxi for another customer but we were not so lucky. Consequently, it cost us more to ride into Zihua to get dinner (they don't serve dinner and its expensive at the neighboring restaurant). Its turns out to be a taxi racket. In US its not that much more but it does leave the customer with a touch of a BAD feeling.
I run an Airbnb and I want my customers to feel great and well treated when they leave. I really like Casa Kaukan especially the attention to detail the owners put into the establishment. It seems like the management ONLY need to really change their customer service. It would really help if the main manager spoke a spec of English as it is so close to Zihua with international visitors would be a good move.
