Hosts are extremely kind and offered to drive us to dinner and lunch free of charge as well as call to book reservations in Japanese!

Wonderful private onsen. The host even let us know when it was available. Host was super friendly and offered us a ride to the open air museum. Property is on a steep street in a small town with several restaurants and shops.
Sparse furnishings. Cold air seeped into the room.

My husband and I came to visit Japan for 20 days for our honeymoon and while we are still on our trip I can tell you this will be the most memorablw stay. Jim and his wife are absolutely incredible and the hospitality they provided us was exceptional! We got there too early for check in but asked to leave our bags they agreed and even drove us to the Open Air Museum. When we returned by bus (buy a Hakone free pass totally worth it) and came to check in we were on the third floor and our bags were already there and the room was put together nicely. We asked them to make dinner reservations to mori meshi and they called to find out they have time right now then they are filled for the night. Jim came up to let us know and we decided to go now and he drove us. After dinner the waitress called him and he came and picked us up. We utilized the onsens both days and tried both out. If they were full the hostess would knock on our door to let us know we can go down now as the onsen is free. Hot water was always provided for green tea and was perfect to start and end the day. We only stayed a night, but I wish we stayed more! We checked out and they let us leave our bags for the day as we went on the ship and ropeway. The bus got stuck in traffic and Jim noticed us at the stop so he dropped another family off then came and got us which was not necessary but we were so grateful! We returned and they gave us water and a honeymoon gift which she made with her own hands. My heart was so full of happiness from their kindness and I know I will recommend them to anyone who asks where to stay at in Hakone.

Hosts were super friendly and went above and beyond to help in everything. Onsen for private use was lovely.
Futons were quite hard to sleep on. Very bright light in the room. Nowhere comfortable to sit if you are not that flexible! Steep walk to the ryokan from the busstop was killing in summer heat.

Spirit of the place, housekeeping, view and hospitality
A little bit far from the train station. It was hard to reach the place with a big luggage

This ryokan is a classic, traditional property with two lovely onsens open for private use at any hour and clean, spacious rooms. The tatami is pristine and the futons were comfortable. The main attraction to Tsukinoya was the couple who run it however, they are wonderful. From the moment we walked in they helped us make dinner reservations, gave us info on the sights nearby and where to go in bad weather, and were happy to help at any moment. They even drove us to dinner and to the station the following day, without being asked. I cannot fault their hospitality, this is a wonderful little place to stay.
Absolutely nothing

The hosts were wonderful and made our stay memorable. The onsen is great and the room was very tradicional and unique

private Onsen
quite a distance from main attractions

The room is spacious, very nice!
The owner walked me through everything on where is the onsen. how to use the sink, how to use the light, how to use the air cond remote control, where is the yukata etc etc.
The onsen is private and spacious, where you can enjoy to the max for 50 minutes!
Don't have electric kettle, not sure where to get hot water, I didn't ask. But the owner already prepared warm water inside a thermal jug for you to use.
Hair dryer is in front of the counter where you can borrow and return later, not inside your own room. Or can use the hair dryer inside the private onsen.
The stairs to go to the hotel location is very steep, those with big luggage must be careful. Or maybe can try other route.

The hosts are amazing: they drove us around and helped a lot. Private onsen for 50 minutes where you can also take a shower. Room is big and with private toilet. Location is very quiet and easy reachable both by train and bus. Overall a beautiful experience!

The best hospitality and a traditional ryokan experience they offer. They walk you through how to use everything from the onsen to the bathroom sink 😅 the genuinely want you to have the best stay possible. English is pretty good and The husband even drove us to a local dinner spot and picked us up as the ryokan is slightly out of town, as the nearest restaurants were closed. Private onsen is beautiful and the room was spacious and authentically decorated. Would 100% stay here again
I enjoy waking with the sun but do bear in mind there was no blackout curtains in the room and the sun rises very early in Japan.

Great hosts! Super sweet and accommodating. We wouldn't make it to see Fuji for sunset without their help:)
The room was neat and spacious.
The onsen is a great way to relax after long days.
The only thing: I wish they accept credit cards.
Travellers, get your cash exchanged prior to arrival - it is harder to do that in town!

This property and stay here was absolutely amazing! i normally don’t both doing reviews but I found this place due to all the other Stella review about this place and I understand why. This was a true traditional and cute Japanese stay in the mountains. The couple who was hosting were over the top nice! They helped and guided us with all our questions about what to do, directions and made sure we had everything we wanted. They even drove us 30 min plus out of their way to drop us to the train station. I 100% recommend staying here if you are travelling in a couple, family or friends. i will be coming back here with my friends this time and staying here. Also the absolute highlight was their onsens which was absolutely stunning and left us very relaxed afterwards!

The owners were incredibly friendly and hospitable. They offered to drive us to tourist locations nearby. Overall, it was lovely stay, with a lovely on-site onsen, in a good location.
4.7
The staff was extremely friendly and could communicate with some English, which made the stay much easier. The onsen can be used privately for 50 minutes, as many times as you want (depending on the other guests of course), and they have 3 different ones (one of them with a very special decoration). The room had both tatami and beds so we could choose how we wanted to sleep.
The room did not have a washlet, but this was a really minor inconvenience.
4.7
There were two baths and they were completely private. People could reserve either bath and just enjoy them in the company of their friends, loved ones, or alone. The baths were also open 24/7. The traditional Japanese rooms were also nice and comfortable.
The location is kind of out of the way and was a little hard to find. The rooms didn't really have a view. The hotel did not have any dining facilities on location, so you had to go out to eat/bring your own food.

Hotel is run by a nice Japanese couple who were very friendly and accommodating. They were very helpful explaining the facilities and the local area, to include where to get food. They even provided hot water several times a day to make tea and coffee in the room :)
Nothing!

Walked us through the whole hotel and showed us how to do everything. The husband and wife gave us presents on our way in and guided us where ever we we wanted to go. They even drove us to the train station after we left. Will definitely stay here again and will recommend to everyone I know.
