The host, Mohammed, is super. Lovely room, very comfortable, and the location is great if you are looking for something a bit different. Mohammed organised a personal camel ride into the desert for us. The guide, Mossin, was brilliant - if you have the time i strongly recommend taking the trip.

It is remote, so unless you intend to drive back and forth to Douz then you need to bring plenty of supplies if you are staying for a few days. It would be great if there was the option to buy drinks / water / light snacks at the location, perhaps an honesty-box option?

We loved the place. The last property before the desert, we came and there was wind starting to blow so could not go for long in the desert but still the stay was worth it. Mohammed is an amazing host, very nice, open and with attentions. We would definitely come back there if we want to stay longer in the desert.

It is not for you if you don’t want sand, desert, and prefer large hotel with swimming pool - not our case

Awesome Place, and unique Landscape if you're looking for an immersive desert experience. The Host is very welcoming with his guests in taking care of them. We've also done a getaway through desert via camels for 2hours in being witness to the sunset. Room and Bathroom are very clean and confortable in using the air conditioner. There is also a rooftop to enjoy the glowing stars during night. It's not too far from the city about 6 or 7km by car. Perfect for a couple experience

Amazing location at the edge of the desert in a beautiful little compound

We loved the location, right at the edge of the desert dunes. Staff were really friendly and helpful at organising a camel ride for the kids and a sunset 4x4 trip. Dinner on the first night was delicious.

Nothing. The accommodation is a little rustic but it is clean and everything we needed was provided.

breakfast was wonderful! homemade bread and great coffee. Mohamed was very welcoming. He arranged a night in the desert with a guide and a 4x4 for us. It was a private tour for a very reasonable price! We would love to come and stay with Mohamed again :) Also we drove to the place with our own rental car and Mohamed was very patient about our arrival and came personally to meet us and help us find the place.

This place is gorgeous: small, cosy rooms overlooking the desert and the palmeraia. The accommodation is literally the last rows of building before the dunes, which makes it very charming and relaxing. The rooms are decorated with taste and the garden has palmtrees and a patio where to stargaze at night. Breakfast is served in a room with a beautiful large window open towards the desert: quite a spectacle.

Power-cuts may happen. Water was cut in the evening and in the morning we were not able to get hot water.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Maison de Sable. The location is excellent for any excursion into the desert and we could even enjoy a breathtaking view of the dunes from our window. The room was clean and comfortable, with plenty of local style. Mohamed - the host - is a wonderful person! He helped us arrange a one-day trip to the desert. We can’t wait to go back and we want to sincerely thank him for making our vacation memorable!

The accomodation is not in the city but 8 kilometers outside. The adress is incorrect, making it hard to find. The room was very simple. The breakfast was dissapointing. The price-quallity was not right at all.

Very pleased with our stay in “La maison de sable” (the sand house). 3 nights for a family with 2 kids (14 and 8 year old). Our host Mhamed and his wife were very welcoming and kind to us throughout our stay. Mhamed is a tourism professional and is very knowledgeable of the area and the south of Tunisia. He recommended a few amazing attractions, to which we drove to and all were very worth it. If you don’t fancy driving, you are right at the start of the desert and you can just take a short walk to the sand dunes or to a nearby palm trees forest. The rooms are authentic and as described, the area is very safe and you get to have great memories here. We highly recommend la maison de sable and hope to be back again soon.

The stillness of the environment was sublime. I felt very at home. The host was witty and friendly. He is very easy to talk to and we had many good conversations. He had many board games which we enjoyed during evening in his cozy living room. And in the morning we played badminton after a nice breakfast looking out to a serene view. He even made us a lunch to take to the overnight desert trip he arranged for us. By the way, if you plan on doing an overnight desert trip, try the host’s way. Sleeping in the middle of desert under the stars by the bonfire and breakfast bread baked in the morning with leftover fire wood. Such a unique experience. Withe the sleeping bags and the blanket provided by the host, at some point it even got too warm during the night. We regretted bringing too much warm clothes. Watching the big sun come up in the morning was worth the 120km drive into the desert. Anyways, really a memory to cherish for forever. Thank you!!!!

We had no running water during our stay but i think the situation was unique to us. With it being the desert, we understood the situation. He gave us a big container of water, which worked out fine during our one night stay.

Everything was perfect! Mhamed is very friendly, respectful and helpful. He gave us great advices. The location of the house is wonderful, very remote on the edge of the desert. The room was will designed and comfortable, the breakfast was basic and good.

There is not really anything negative. Its quite far from douz so you have to take the car, but Mhamed will pick you up or help you organise the transfer, so thats not a problem. The toilet is not really seperated from the bedroom so you have to know your roommate well, but for us it was no problem.

it was so remote, and I was abale to relax. The property is exceptional! I had a number for the taxi to go into town of Douz. But, my idea was that I didn’t want to see anyone and eat in the house. Great place to revitalise

Finding the property came out difficult (it’s not in the center but 8klm away from it. The room had kids dolls and a kids room separated by a curtain, same goes for the toilet which was unpractical for noise, smell and lighting.

the accommodation was basic and certainly not luxurious but that is what makes the charm of the place away from hotels and gives it more of an authentic experience.

Mhamed‘s house is incredible! From the living room you can look right into the desert. it’s the last house before the desert starts. He has only 3 rooms, which gives it a very comfy vibe. Mhamed is an incredible honest and genuine man with whom we connected greatly. He took us to the desert in a responsible manner. Douz seems to be the small sister of Tozeur and I liked the smal city vibe there.

It is a place definitely worth visiting! Everything truly exceeded our expectations: it is a beautiful guest house built with love, very very clean, and the location is truly breathtaking as you are literally almost in the Sahara. The owner, Mohammed is very kind and helpful: he made us food and delicious mint tea, arranged a camel trip to the desert for us, took us to the bus station with his car, and was great company talking to us about the desert and nomadic lifestyle. A very generous man and a beautiful place.

Simply brilliant. An unique opportunity to experience a Berber accommodation in Mohamed’s place. The silence, the calm in the desert’s edge. Mohamed is a perfect host. He arrange a dromedary 2 hours trip for us and it was punctual and waiting right at our rooms door. Couldn’t have asked for anything better and the only regret is not having spend more nights at Grand Sud

Great local house in the outskirts of Douz, perfect for relaxing, with a very nice courtyard and fantastic breakfast! The owner is very friendly and helpfull. They organize trips to the Sahara dessert in dromedar, sleeping on the middle of the dunes under the start full sky, super recomendable :)

very authentic experience in a berber house. set remotely, right on the edge of the desert (that could be viewed as good or bad!) about 5km outside Douz. host very friendly, despite having little English.

appreciate that it rained (I know, in the Sahara, what's the chances) so our experience of traditional sand bread making was missed, but no partial refund was forthcoming.

The location is just amazing! La Maison located right at the border of the desert. The staff is very helpful, they can organize any activity you want (camping, camel ride, 4x4 trip, etc.). The room was very clean and warm.

The internet, tv, kettle available only in the public area. The breakfast was very basic (only butter, jam, bread, some sweets and black coffee). No door separating toilet from the room. Quite expensive.
