My stay at this hotel was overall pretty good. The only issue besides the room being a bit dated was the hot water pressure. At times the water would not come on at all. I reported the issue to the Manager, Emily, at the front desk and she was aware of the issue that was being addressed. Additionally, for my inconvenience, Emily agreed to refund 20% of my total charges for my 9-day stay! This was fair and I would definitely stay here on future trips to my hometown!

My check in and communication with the front desk was great. However, I experienced a few issues during my stay and reached out to the district manager after my checkout on Sunday and it is Thursday and I have not heard back. There was blood present throughout the bathroom area, as well as an hug wet spot on one of the sofa pillows. Since I booked through Expedia there was nothing the front desk can do and they provided the district manager’s email address.

I was not expecting the worst but I did expect some unlikeliness of the hotel due to the cost and reviews. But I saw for myself that the hotel was completely run down and filthy. Our room was very dated and infested with roaches. Fortunately we travel with Lysol so we sprayed our bed and furniture before using.

The location of the hotel was great, the outdoor lounge area was nice and so was the set up of the room. However, throughout my 2 day stay I killed 2 giant cockroaches. The bed was so hard and cricked. The room looked clean but had a musty smell to it.

First, I’d like to give credit to the staff, Banika in particular. The kindness and friendliness was appreciated.
The first room we were placed in had a soaked carpet for five feet from the wall. The second as well. The third room was dry, but the entire hallway stank of vomit. The final room was acceptable and at this point we had spent a full hour looking for a room.
The entire property reeked of marijuana vape.
In most hallways and rooms, the walls show signs of recent half attempts to repair damage - but not well. Putty and a roll over in a paint that was near-ish the original color.
The dog doo-doo containers were overflowing with garbage. One of the designated dog walk areas had an open water service hole that was about 8 inches deep - a serious injury risk.
This property may have been or could be great. Outdoor entertainment area with bean bag toss and tvs. Conveniently located. The reality was so poorly missed.
We asked about a refund after looking at so many rooms, but were told only the general manager can consider and she wouldn’t be back for days. Having read several reviews of similar experiences, we decided to suck it up rather than lose the $200 for what should be an $89 room elsewhere. I’ve stayed at nicer motel 6.

I didn’t like the up keep on the towels and washcloths was terrible they had old visible stains on majority of them , we just went out to the local Target to purchase towels. If the towels or sheets have spots or stains from pervious customers it should be thrown away. We had to ask for new sheets when we arrived due to it look like blood stains. The towels and sheets need to be inspected thoroughly. On a positive note the front desk staff was amazing.

Stay was fine for our journey to the coast. Furniture is a little worn but for the most part, clean. Only complaint is that we requested more towels and they were out so we had to share three towels among the five of us.

A dog kept barking outside my window on the premises . No sleep in the morning. Called front desk and they said they will handle , still dog barked at same spot for another hour . Not pleased with that.

Entering the lobby you could smell pets. As we opened the door to our room, there was an overwhelming smell of cleaning products. Thinking this was good, but once the smell disappeared, the room smelled like wet dog. Pulling back the sheets, hair was found and we asked for new clean sheets, which we put on the bed. The water pressure in the bathroom was simply a drip. The sofa in the living area looked like it came from a thrift store and not clean enough to sit on. After coming back from dinner, we decided to look for another hotel and end our stay. My husband went to the front desk at 1:30am and advised we would be checking out later and needed credit for ending our stay. Property owners need to visit this property and do some major repairs and updates. Do not recommend this property and this will be our last stay at Candlewood properties.

First signed room on the 5th floor has an over powering smell of cleaning supplies and food crumbs in the bed which made me assume the sheets had not been replaced. So I requested a new room and was quickly accommodated to a room on the 7th floor Then during a nap from a long travel the hotel experienced a fire alarm which made us all take the stairs in order to leave the building for about 30 mins. 7 flights down want too bad for me but could easily be exhausting for some. All in all the stay was just ok. The extremely strong smell of cleaning supplies and food crumbs in the bed though was a huge turn off.

Staff were amazing, friendly, and professional. The suite was spacious and comfortable. However, the towels are not great, the sofa are not comfortable, the AC in the living room did not work, and we found two baby roaches in the cabinet. In the end, I will go again here

Great place to stay. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. I’ve stayed here maybe 20+ nights and it’s always clean, comfortable and convenient. Highly recommended. Will continue to be my go to when I’m in Richmond. About every other week. Banika, at the front desk, is fantastic, remembers me every time, is hard working and always personable.
