Very Pleasant experience. I chose it as it was different from al other luxury hotels in the area, and I was not disappointed.
I would recommend this to all who want to try something different. They will not be disappointed. Check in was done over the phone but went smoothly.

The room itself was decent, but the shared bathroom was terrible. They were almost out of paper, and there were puke in two of the sinks.

Worst hotel experience ever!! We were not informed that the ship hosts a party every friday until 00:30 - followed by a one-hour very noisy cleaning up. Our room/cabin happened to be surrounded by the party from all sides, as the room faced the party area - and a loud speaker was placed on top of the room.
We love partying, but we were not part of the party. The noise was intolerable. The rooms close to the party area should never have been rented out!
We had booked two nights but decided to leave the ship for another hotel for the following night.
We are quite often using hotels - and have never posted a review. We are not picky - but this was just not OK.

Very nice hotel, simple but comfy rooms, friendly staff, breakfast has all you need. Very quiet unless there is an event on board in the evening, which just happened once in the 5 nights I stayed there.
Great location, right in the old harbour, just 15 min walk from city center. Sightseeing tours by boat are close-by.
There was only one issue during my stay - reception is supposed to be open from 7 am to 9 pm, but in reality, mostly it only seems to be staffed in the afternoons when new guests arrive. Also, my keycard did not work for the main entrance which was an issue when reception was closed. Same was the case for other guests. There was a number that you could call so somebody would open the door for you, not it's not ideal of course. However, I am sure this is just a temporary issue and will be fixed soon.
Otherwise it was a very comfortable and charming place, well definitely stay there again when I come to Gothenburg.

An amazing experience of staying in a ship that is clean, culturally rich, with friendly staff and a fresh breakfast. It was quite impressive that this accommodation is also offering a glimpse in the history of this ship both in the breakfast hall and the floor, where the single rooms are located, where you can admire nautical artefacts and paintings. As for the breakfast, it was tasty and with big variety and the staff was really taking care of the space cleanliness and the food all the time, showing that they care for their guests. I definitely recommend that Göteborgs visitors' stay in this unique ship hotel. It is value for money and an experience you will remember.

Room 302, king-size bed suite is on the top deck. What was not mentioned was that barken Viking sometimes arranges a club until an undisclosed time during weekends. At 23.00 we grew tired of the noise and called the Hotell to ask for a new room and the receptionist at dialogue hotel stated first that he knew nothing of the party, then that the party would end at 2.00 am, or 1, or midnight, and finally that he would check for other rooms and call back, which he did not do. I had worse service once, at a 1 star hotel in Paris. Weekdays the hotel is perfect, quiet, central and good value for money, I've spent 40+ nights there. During summer time with good weather I'll never choose this hotel again.

Our light in our bathroom didn't work, the shower head also kept falling off because it wasn't the right size for the holder. Cool to say in the ship worth what we paid for the fun experience.

Nice big room and bathroom, and breakfast was included. Not a bad walk to central station, but navigation helped, a lot of construction. Not much going on around it, probably because it was Monday

Amazing venue. View was stunning and really easy to find. A very useful landmark when slightly inebriated. Good breakfast selection.
Could do with a bit of updating in the public areas, eg carpets are torn and frayed. Don't stay over public holidays as telephone check in system is rubbish
3.7
Reception sign pointed in the wrong direction, there was no one there and you had to call to get your key done. Couldn't store my luggage as no staff were on board. I loved the hotel but they need staff.
3.7
The registration is brilliant but so unique that it is non-intuitive. Fortunately another guest was smoking outside as I arrived and registered for me. I recommend instructions sent to the guest the morning of arrival. I did email them that morning but no response.

Good for a short stay, good location and ok breakfast. Small cabin but ok.

Was expecting so much more based on the rating. Like other reviews, the check in process is an issue. There are multiple signs that tell you to do different things and none of them are correct. The bar/restaurant is closed and there is no access to any exterior portion of the ship so that really takes away from the overall experience. Based on that this could have been any average to bad hotel and it doesn’t help that you get none of the good ship experience.

Overall, this was a fun and quirky place to stay. It was very inexpensive, so it's hard to complain about not having bath toiletries or an actively staffed front desk.
We arrived around 10pm and were able to get into the 'ship' only because someone was exiting when we got there. Once inside, it was not clear where to go or what to do to get our key. After 5 minutes of waltzing around the place, we finally found a phone with instructions for dialing the property manager. He indicated the key was made and in an open lockbox by the front door. Problem solved.
My biggest gripes were the lack of information shared before we arrived regarding how to get into the property and our room. There was also no information in the room on breakfast timing or location, etc. From a service perspective, it's insane that we stayed dour nights and NEVER saw anyone at the front desk.
Would I stay here again? Probably. The location is great and the room was very inexpensive. They have a ways to go on spiffing up the property though. Lots of random things laying about in the communal areas and the upstairs deck was closed off to guests. Weird.

Everything about the stay was great once we were checked in. The problem is the check-in process, and we heard the same complaint from two other guests. They mention that the reception desk is staffed limited hours. I never saw anyone there, and i must have passed by 10-12 times at various times of the day. If the front door is locked when you arrive and you don't have a phone, there is a way to get in, but we figured it out by trial and error. The instructions on the front door were not helpful. Then, once you are in, signs point to reception, but it is unstaffed. Eventually we found a phone near reception and we were able to call someone who made a key (remotely) so we could access our room. The company who runs the hotel needs to revise their check-in instructions with the assumption that the guest has never been there before and may not have a phone with them. Put themselves in the guests' shoes.

We like it so much

A good value stay close to where the cruise ships depart. I would stay again :)

Checked in at 20:45 yesterday, and was sent to a untidy room that has not been cleaned. See pictures below. Receptionist said he would ring back and fix issue, never heard anything and waited 30 min in reception. Met other guest with same issue, that had been told 5 times that her room would be cleaned soon, but nothinhg happened. She finally changed hotel. I would expect some sort of compensation, since your staff apparently have no clue on what rooms to clean. We also need new sheets and towels.
Looking forward to you reply.

Decent hotel in walking distance of central Gothenburg. A little dated but relatively well cleaned and staff are friendly. Breakfast is also good and included. Hotel is what you expect for the low price.

It was a fabulous tall ship very close to the town centre. We had an amazing stay 😊

The charming retired ship, the "Barken Viking," offers a truly enchanting stay for a few nights. With its affordable rates, commendable service, and superb location, it's a delightful choice for travelers.
Situated within walking distance of the city's shopping district and central attractions, the "Viking" couldn't be better positioned. Our room, tailored for a parent and child, boasted two comfortable single beds, a well-appointed bathroom, and ample space for our belongings.
One thing to note is there's no one at the front desk after 7:30 PM until 11:00 AM the next day. This caused a little trouble when my key didn't work, but luckily another guest helped me out.
Despite this minor hiccup, the breakfast was fine and covered a good range of offers.
Overall, I'd recommend the Barken Viking to anyone looking for a special place to stay, though they might want to work on their reception service.

I recommend a stay on the sailship.
It was spacy inside, alot of places to sit down and relax.
The staff was friendly and the breakfast was very good.
The bath and toilets had some technical failures. Should be fixed.

Really unique experience staying on a barque docked on the river in Gothenburg. Self check in is straight forward although it’s worth noting that Hotel.com customers must use the phone at the property to call the remote reception as the reference number needed for check in doesn’t get emailed to you.
Room was good, everything worked and was clean. Breakfast was great and the staff were very friendly and professional. There’s a small museum to look around on the lower deck for free. It’s interesting just having a walk around and exploring the vessel.
Stayed for one night but would have been more than happy to stay for longer. Cool experience.

A lovely sailing boat converted to a hotel but kept authentic l. No reception staff on board and check in done via computer - efficient but impersonal. Very quiet overall with people only seen at breakfast. Breakfast itself was buffet style and catered for different tastes
3.7
Bad service and negative overall experience.

As long as you figure out how to get through the first door (you have to call the hotel) everything is smooth sailing. Room good for the price point. Breakfast surprisingly good! I made this my standard hotel in Gothenburg with five stays so far.

The Barken Viking is a unique and very nice location to stay. The rooms are nice and well maintained.
The checking in was very confusing and slow. They do not have a real reception, but automatic check-in with a machine.
3.7
We would like to review the kindness of the hotel owner who, due to a problem with the room, really did everything he could to please us. We are really happy with this experience.

My experience was very nice, the room and the overall condition of the ship was good. I took single room with private bathroom and I liked it well.

When the info (also at the door entrance) says the reception should be manned, and it isn´t... And I had to be in a telephone que to check, as I was standing outside the door, it didn´t make me happy.
Next morning unfriendly staff at breakfast, and still nobody at the reception, then I can´t say it was a happy stay.

The 'hotel' is certainly a different experience, near to the city centre and is great to look at from the outside. The included breakfast was also good for the price. BUT it is not like a hotel, as there was little or no reception or room service (eg although reception was advertised as being open from 7am -9pm it was closed almost all the time of my 3 day stay- even when I went to check out at 11 am on my last morning. The only time I found someone there - at 1 p.m. on the 2nd day - to ask for help with my TV which I couldn't get to work - she indicated she was busy and asked for my room number (which was only a few doors down from reception). I waited c3 hours: no-one came and she has left when I then went to find out what was happening! No-one came to the room to fix or service it in the whole of my stay. The room/cabin was also very stuffy with no means of controlling the temperature/air flow. Out of hours check-in/access was also unnecessarily complicated.

Nice to stay on an old ship. Good breakfast.

Fantastic unique experience. I loved it!
Pretty good breakfast also.
I Booked very late and checked in after hours and got a good rate.

The stay was ok. The intention was to sleep on a ship, and we did. The place is really understaffed. The outside areas of the ship was closed almost all our stay, which takes a lot of the fun out of being on a ship. Breakfast was ordinary at best.
3.7
It was really nice to sleep on the ship. Nothing is level except for the beds. You will find it is understaffed, but instead of complaining about a dysfuncional tv and lack of a receptionist after 6p.m., realize she just did a 12-hr. shift to make your stay possible, and the electricians are probably understaffed also.
Breakfast is nice with cereal, fruit, eggs, bread, ham, cheese, coffee and a waffle maker (it must be turned over once filled, dear readers!)
There is a neat little restaurant 3 mins. from the ship.
Totally recommend for a night or two.
