The B&B was spotlessly clean. The owners couldn’t have been more helpful in recommending nearby walks and even upgrading our room on arrival. We will definitely stay here again when we revisit Ambleside

Fantastic bed and breakfast in a great location for everything in Ambleside. The owners and their lovely dog were super friendly and made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived to the time we left to come home. The room we had was very comfortable, modern and suited us completely. The town centre is literally 2 minutes walk and the pier to take the boats up and down the lake are about 15 minute walk. If you plan to visit other towns such as Keswick or Kendal catch a bus, it’s £4 for a return to either place and compared to taking your car is a no brainer. We were provided with a free parking permit with the car park literally just around the corner which made a huge difference to our stay. We will go back to Ambleside and we will definitely stay here again. Oh did I say the breakfast food is amazing, cooked fresh to order and a great choice. Well done guys and thank you for looking after us, hopefully see you again next year.

Megan and John were the perfect hosts and very welcoming. The property is clean, the bed so comfortable and the breakfast was amazing. The most relaxing B&B we’ve stayed in and would highly recommend this to our family and friends.

Stayed for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding nearby. We were met by John, the owner, who was very helpful in suggesting raxi firms to use. We were allocated a a room on the top floor which was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and all freshly cooked. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

We absolutely loved it. The room is a good size, light and comfortable. It has everything we needed and it was clean. Bathroom was nice and clean too.

We were so happy to have stayed here! Lovely location, convenient to local shops, art gallery, and restaurants. Our room was brilliant: newly remodeled and super comfortable, spacious, and clean. Owners were very kind and helpful, also providing a delicious breakfast. A fantastic B&B, epitomizes the experience one should have in the Lake District. We'll certainly be back!

This is a lovely B&B and the owners John and Meg go out of their way to ensure you are comfortable and have everything you need. The room was nice and the breakfast was great. Parking is just around the corner in the public car park but you get a permit to park for free, which can actually be used for free parking in other towns too which is handy if you want to explore. The location is very convenient, just a couple of minutes walk from the shops and restaurants, and a short walk to Windermere.

The hosts were fine, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good however the room was terrible. Advused once checked in it was the only room in the place that hadn't been refurbished and it was very obvious. The shower and toilet were literally in a cupboard, id sit on the touket and my feet were in the shower. Una le to turn around in shower litetally less than a metre in width. Room very basic, uncomfy bed, minimal everything for £100 a night. Spent the previous night up the road at ambleside central for £45 nighr. Family room, seperate bathroom, kingsize bed, single bed, great facilities. It was like goijg from a 4 star to a 1 star at the compston... Id stay again for location but only for hostel orice of 12 quid a night, not worth a penny more

We stayed here in April 2023. Ambleside is beautiful and Compston House is ideally situated with some great pubs and restaurants. Wonderful hosts who are very knowledgeable about the area. Breakfasts were delicious with a good choice, the room was clean and comfortable and free parking was nearby.
Highly recommended.

Really felt at home in this lovely little gem of a place in Ambleside, nothing too much trouble, breakfast was amazing, a very friendly pleasant and polite young couple hosted us. I only stayed one night as one on route to finishing my holiday in another place but was a welcome place to rest my head thank you.

Meg and John were really accommodating and flexible with our amended check in time.
Compston House itself is situated very close to shops and car parks. The bedroom was clean and felt fresh. It had everything you needed for an overnight’s stay.
John was very knowledgeable of the surrounding area and provided great advice for hiking in Lakes!

Myself and my husband had a fabulous break we were made very welcome by the hosts, fantastic accommodation in a superb location, comfortable spacious room. Really good breakfast menu. Would definitely return.

We had an excellent stay at Compston House. The rooms and bathrooms are very modern and clean. The shower speaker was a nice touch And the rooms are made up every day if you wish. Table service breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice and nothing was too much trouble. Excellent location. The parking permit for not only Ambleside but surrounding villages again was an amazing touch and overall we would recommend to everyone to stay here.

Where to start? The hosts, Meg and John, were excellent. Friendly, attentive, helpful, lovely people. Coming downstairs each morning to be greeted by the house pooch, Mia, was such a treat. She is beautifully behaved, and so sweet-natured. The room was gorgeous. The bed, so, so very comfy! I slept so well each night. As for the breakfast? Oh my lord. I wish I could have extended the trip just to try each option! But the full American, and eggy bread with cinnamon were just, nom. I genuinely don't want to stay anywhere else when I go to the Lakes now! Perfectly situated within easy distance of shops and restaurants, this place is a gem. Book now! I can't wait to come back. Thank you both for a lovely stay xxx

This is the second time we have stopped at Compton House and we just could not fault it. John and Meg are the most fantastic hosts with their lovely little baby Josh and their most beautiful German shepherd Mia. Such a lovely family. Brilliant location too and such good breakfasts! Would definitely recommend and look forward to returning.

Lovely breakfast. Said check in was at 4 but we were allowed into room at 2. Check out is a bit early for us at 10 am . Midday would be better! Overall a brilliant place.
