Really enjoyed our stay. We had a courtyard room which was very clean (aside from the usual shower seals)! We had a courtyard room which was lovely - our only slight negative being that with our room so close to the bar, we could clearly hear the bar staff emptying all the bottle bins late in the evening (past 11pm).

Great location, amazing beer garden patio area- nice bathroom but terrible mattress- needed to be replaced years ago. No a/c but a fan- which was ok for me but might bother others.

This is my second time staying at this hotel. I liked the room I stayed in better the first time, but I was still happy with the old world charm of this property. The breakfast is great and the staff are super friendly. My only complaint was my room was close to where bottles were being dumped into the bin, not a huge deal expect there were some nights that they would be dumping bottles multiple times well passed midnight which would wake me up with the loud crashing.

Beautiful hotel, lovely food (especially at 1711 restaurant) and comfortable room. Friendly staff, would absolutely stay again. We were in a terrace room. We loved it.

Wow! Just wow! What a great place! Close to everything and just a great experience with rich history and an absolutely amazing staff! This place is a must to anyone who comes to York!

The staff were really good.

Very good check-in. Staff were helpful with directions and a map of the area. They really tried to make us feel welcome, and succeeded. Quaint little room was a lot of fun and all amenities were thoughtful (umbrellas provided in the room for example) and comfy. Breakfast was reasonably priced and had lots of good choices. Surprisingly quiet at night - they had a patio nearby but we didn't hear a thing from it and enjoyed restful sleep. A great place and we were glad we stayed there.

This is our 4th stay at the Judges Lodgings and each time we have had a different room, what a great way to experience how some of the judges might have stayed. The bar, the breakfast and the staff are well…. Great We shall return when next at the theatre in York.

A wonderful find! Packed with history. Old without being run down. Modern bathrooms. Excellent pub and restaurant on the premises. I’d stay here again in a minute.

Expectacular hotel! The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The decoration is impeccable and they gave us an upgrade upon our arrival. Breakfast was delicious. Look no more, this is your hotel in York!

Really enjoyed our stay. Lovely hotel with lots of character features & feeling of luxury in a very central location. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful & the whole trip was very relaxing.

Wonderful historic building in a perfect central location. Was given a free upgrade into a fabulous room with view of minster. Lovely when bells rang. Breakfast was excellent. Only slight difficulty was that there is no lift in a listed building meaning carrying suitcases up and down stairs. (Staff would have helped I’m sure)

Lovely place to stay right in the centre and near train station. Breakfast lovely, staff friendly. Room was expensive for such a small room and no bath. Too many non residents in bar at night and afternoons I think part of the bar etc should be kept for residents. Would stay here again though but not in the same room.

Lovely old period building, very close to the core of York. Very easy to walk to from the train station.

This is NOT a hotel for anyone who has a car. It is impossible to access the Hotel at any time as it is in a pedestrian controlled area. It is NOT a hotel for anyone one who has mobility problems. 39 steps to a congested bedroom( designated “character” ) at additional.cost is unacceptable. The room was gloomy &/cluttered with huge furniture and proved to be without any central heating for the first night of our stay. It was the coldest night of 2024.🍾 The staff were sympathetic and eventually found a single electric heater at 9.30 p.m. by which time we had already retired! Sadly an experience NOT to be repeated. An apology & a substantial refund is the very least I would expect.

Very central, attractive hotel. My room was perfectly nice. Only criticism is that the telephone was often unmanned when trying to make contact.

The location was great and the building, food and comfort fabulous. I thought it would be noisy being opposite the bar but after about 9pm it was fine…might be different in the summer when folk are outside!

Great place to stay when visiting York. Everything within walking distance. Lovely meal in the cellar bar beneath the hotel. Little bit of noise as we were at the front of the building, but to be expected from a period single glazed window. The hottest hotel bathroom I have ever been in, towel rail on full blast.

Amazing location food excellent especially evening dinning some staff need to smile some what reception brilliant rooms are gorgeous and the outside area perfect for cocktails

Great position in the centre of York, but very quiet. The courtyard rooms were fairly small but lovely and well appointed. Excellent breakfast. Would not hesitate to recommend this accomodation.

This hotel is located right in the heart of York city centre but is set back from the road making it very quiet.It had a lovely outdoor seating area and a terraced area on the next level.The staff were always very friendly and courteous.The room although a little small it had everything we needed for our short stay bathroom area very clean and modern bath robes available.Although we didn’t use the tea and coffee facilities there was a good selection with a small jug of milk in in fridge.Having a bottle of water in the the room was a lovely touch.The breakfast was amazing with a good varied choice to start with finished with a full cooked English breakfast which was delicious.Overall we had a wonderful experience staying at the Judges Lodgings and would highly recommend for a perfect stay in York.

We stayed for two nights and all the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help us no matter how small the query. The breakfasts were very filling and set us up for the day’s activities. We will definitely recommend staying here in one of the Terrace rooms and look forward to staying again in the future. X

We were in York for one night, and stayed at the Judges Lodging. We were pleasantly impressed with the charming atmosphere, the close proximity to the train station and the areas of York that we wanted to see, and the friendliness of the staff. After a full day of wandering the streets and attractions, we relaxed in the warm lower level pub with tea and a beer. Our room was almost like an attached cottage room, that had a very modern and stylish bathroom. The beds were comfy, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would highly recommend.
