Shilbottle is a village with good amenities including a friendly pub, a lovely cafe, a fantastic Indian and a nice pizza takeaway. The cottage had modern decor and was very cosy for a couple and their dog. It was a good location to explore the area which we knew well. We didn't sleep in the upstairs room, but the downstairs double was very comfortable. The upstairs window gave amazing views of the sunrise and the stars at night.

We were sent a later check in time to that advertised but as it was the dead of winter and would be very dark on arrival, having had previous experience of difficulty finding holiday cottages in the dark, we asked if we could arrive at the advertised time and that was fine. Our stay was in December and arrived at the cottage expecting to find some logs for the log burner but there was nothing, so had to go out again to find them. If logs are not going to be available it might be worth owners charging an optional extra tenner to offer logs on arrival, as it was we had to go out again and travel quite a few miles to search for a garage that sold them. There was just the two of us, and we noted that the upstairs bedroom felt very cold, but we didn't use it, so not a problem for us but worth knowing if you are planning to visit with a larger party. Bring extra layers or hot water bottles. Parking took some doing as the space was a bit tricky to negotiate but there was plenty of parking on the road.

Location was great. Property was nicely furnished. Beds comfortable.

Unaware of any form of surveillance cameras on booking or prior to visit. In particular the one over the garden eating area felt intrusive and unnecessary. No one wants to feel monitored on their holiday! Basic essentials missing ie bottle opener, tin opener so very frustrating as a self catering accommodation. No welcome pack for any instructions on what to do with recycling, WiFi password, using the washer, etc.

Good location, very clean, helpful neighbour everything you’d need in the kitchen

The only complaint there was only a few logs for the stove only enough for a couple of hours we only lit it in the evening as we were out during the day. We had to go to the garage to buy a bag the next night the neighbour very kindly said we could have some of hers if we couldn’t buy any. With out the stove the property was a little chilly (Easter)there was an portable electric heater in the house to use & we had that in the downstairs bedroom on for an hour just to warm the room before bed.

Really quiet location but everything you need. Beautifully decorated and very relaxing space.
