The driveway to the cottage and parking space needed care, and I was daunted to start with after parking because I was not willing to try to negotiate the cobbles, potholes and narrowness of the lane on order to reverse out into the road. However, on checking, I realised it was just possible to turn the car round in order to drive out forwards - phew. The cottage itself was clean, neat and well furnished, and overall well appointed given the restrictions of the size of the house.

I couldn't find a sweeping broom in the tall bathroom cupboard. This only mattered because I accidentally broke a Pyrex bowl and had to pick the glass pieces up with my hands.

Location was great for the town with all the shops just a hundred yards or so away.

The mezzanine steps were steep but we were warned about this before arrival.

Location and on-site parking was brilliant. Lounge was comfortable and clean. Well stocked kitchen. Outside patio, although we didn't use it, looked very inviting and seemed perfect for outdoor relaxation. Very nice looking furniture and little coloured lights. Kit Kats, milk and butter were nice welcoming touches.

Bed wasn't very comfortable. Everywhere seemed cluttered. Hot Water Boiler hadn't been turned on, which we didn't realise until we tried to take a shower. We wanted to take a shower and wash our hair, when we got there, as we were going to see relatives, but we had to wait until the water heated up. The bath and shower need some attention, especially the shower connector.. and it smelled of bad drains. The water should be turned on in readiness for any guest or there should be a large note, in good view, when you first enter the property telling you to switch the boiler on straight away.

Great location in the centre of Ross on Wye. Interesting layout in the cottage, the kitchen a joy to use. Fine tuning of heating arrangements by the host added to the comfort of our stay. Lounge area very comfortable. Seasonal decorations much appreciated

Leaving after only two nights, there is so much to see and to do in Ross on Wye.

Exceptional cottage , full of charm and very well equipped, it’s situated down a narrow lane just off the high street so is close to everything but so quiet ,

That we hadn’t booked to stay longer !
