CONSTRUCTION NOTICE: Papakea Building L will be under Interior Renovation starting Feb 2026 to April 2026. We would like to advise that there may be construction noise or disruption during your stay.

One of Maui's popular vacation spots, Papakea is a peaceful Hawaiian Style low rise resort situated on 13 acres right on the ocean just a short walk to north Kaanapali Beach. The lushly landscaped grounds are immaculately maintained and adorned with red ginger and red palms. At dusk, every evening, the magical twinkling tiki lights are lit and reflect on the Koi ponds through-out the property. Papakea’s location is as good as it gets! Within minutes, an easy walk to Duke’s, shopping center, Farmers Market, coffee shops, sandy beaches, snorkeling and surfing.

RESORT FEE: $25 per day; $5 for each extra car parking. Charged by the on-site front desk upon check-in.

BEACHES & CRITTERS: The beach size in Hawaii varies month to month due to weather, heavy surf, strong currents, and tides. Due to Maui’s rural setting, you may experience the occasional rooster, as well as harmless geckos. Geckos are friendly, eat insects, and are considered good luck in Hawaii. Please don’t kill them. Although the HOA schedules regular professional pest control services, pests such as ants, roaches and rodents simply cannot be completely controlled in the tropics. Maui is in a tropical climate. If our guest spot more than the normal expected pests, we always make our best efforts to contact and work with the HOA to minimize your interactions with these pests. Any contact with such pests within or outside the unit does not constitute a breach of this Agreement or give Guest any right to any refund or rental adjustment.

**We make no guarantee that properties adjacent to the Unit will be free from disturbances, including but not limited to noise or inconvenience from construction, traffic or other guests or neighbors. Any such disturbance shall not constitute a breach of this Agreement or give Guest any right to any refund or rental adjustment. By booking your stay with us, you accept that Host is not liable for any inconveniences arising from any temporary defect or stoppage in supply of water, electricity, air conditioning or plumbing that is beyond their control. Host is not liable for any loss or damage to Tenants’ personal property caused by weather conditions, natural disasters, or other events beyond their control. Tenants accept that the cable and internet service at the Rental can be sporadic and unreliable at times, and Tenant shall not be entitled to any refund of the rental fee in the event either of these services are unavailable or not operating properly during Tenants’ stay.

We had problems getting into the condo because neither the key cards or door code worked but the owner was quick to help us out. The balcony looks out over the ocean and it is wonderful to hear the waves. I suggest you check the location of places you want to go and try to find a close place. It took us 45 minutes to an hour to get to the luau, snorkeling trips, etc that I had arranged. There were closer places I could have chosen but I didn’t think about the drive time.

One of the best equipped condos we’ve stayed in. Fantastic oceanfront views and nice balcony to watch turtles from. In-unit washer and dryer worked out well. Nice beach right beside the property. Grills at the pool could use a little work. A little finicky to light.

We stayed (8/8-15). Our group consisted of family of four and a set of grandparents. We loved the location and views of the ocean. There is beach access just a few steps away. The location to the pool is convenient as well as to various sites, beaches and eateries through Kaanapali and surrounding areas. Positives: 4 Tommy Bahama beach chairs and a few various sizes of coolers. 6 beach towels as well. A/C units within property helped keep the temp cool but definitely suggest closing blinds during the afternoon sun. Well stocked kitchen with pots/pans and cooking utensils. Beds and linens were comfortable and high quality. The location of property is very convenient to local supermarkets, restaurants, shopping and beaches. Negatives: Not many to note but I have a few. If you plan on much cooking, plan on purchasing cooking oil/spray and any spices you may need. Salt/pepper is the only thing provided. A “starter” pack of laundry and dishwasher packs were provided but we quickly ran out with 1 to spare. Again, plan on purchasing additional if you cook/wash frequently. The A/C units did keep mostly the living area and main bedroom cool. As others mentioned, guests staying in back bedroom and loft were hot. Fans were provided which helped a bit. Definitely recommend keeping blinds closed during afternoon sun. Overall we enjoyed our stay and recommend if the minor inconveniences noted are not a big deal. Mahalo!

I checked in and the front desk gave me card keys. We went to the unit and it did not accept card keys. We tried the code we were given and it did not work. I went to the front desk and they helped as much as they could. The contact number for the owner did not work. The contact number for the cleaner was incorrect. I contacted the owner and management company via email and phone number and no answer. I called VRBO for help. They tried all the numbers and no answer. They were going to cancel our entire reservation for the week and try to find us another place. Finally they got through to the owner who changed the code numerous times remotely and it never worked. Finally their new mangement company changed the code to one that worked. We sat outisde for nearly over an hour and half trying to get this figured out. Security told us the code they had didnt even work. When we got in, the managment company said we had to wriggle the door handle all over to make it work. The lock and door mechanism was not working as it should th entire week. This alone I would never recommend this place to anyone and we would never return. One bedroom also did not have air conditioning. The master bedroom was rather warm also.

The entire property is well maintained and the staff is friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Just a few minutes walk from several tasty eating places. Beautiful pool, and steps away from the ocean.

This unit has a great view and very easy access to the beach. There were German cockroaches in the unit that could not seem to be controlled or eliminated. The management company was responsive and came to put out more roach motels but we did not use the kitchen (otherwise we would have cooked and eaten in) because they were constantly on the counters, in the sink, and on the floor, dead and alive. Also, as another reviewer commented, the ac units cannot adequately cool the apartment. We had all of the fans on and tried everything to get cool air to the back bedroom without success.

Great unit, property and grounds were beautiful as were the pools. The view of Molokai from the lanai as well as the sunsets were fantastic. Good times all around.
