Ideal location -- just a short walk down the hill from Praça Tiradentes, and just a short walk up the hill from several of mines and from Casa de Aleijadinho. We were able to explore most of the town on foot from this home base. It's far enough away from the busyness of the main part of town that it was very quiet (even when there was a very loud concert on the main square), but close enough to walk to places easily (at least, as easy as it can be to navigate up and down the steep hills of Ouro Preto!). Clean, quaint building -- an old residence converted into a pousada, tucked away in a mostly residential neighborhood. The room was a nice size, clean and comfortable, with two small balconies in the room and one in the bathroom, all with French doors. Beautiful rustic wood furniture. Bed was firm but comfortable. Small fridge. Flat screen TV (which we didn't use). Very friendly staff. Some staff members had English, and others didn't, so having Portuguese definitely helped. The front desk attendant recommended several restaurants, all of which were outstanding. I definitely suggest asking for restaurant recommendations -- you won't be disappointed! It's also conveniently close to Tenente Pimenta Rock Bar, which was a nice place to get a night cap and a snack close to home after a day of exploring. Delicious, simple breakfast with great options: eggs, pastries/breads, yogurt/granola, cheese, meat, fresh juice, good coffee. Cozy, quiet breakfast room, and again, very kind staff.

The parking lot was about a block away from the place, and the streets were so narrow that it was difficult to temporarily park the car to check in. But parking was free, and the folks at the front desk helped us to park, and they kindly retrieved the car for us when we wanted it, making it as easy as possible to deal with. A 50% down payment was required to secure the room, which was no problem -- but we weren't able to use a credit or debit card to book it. Pix was required. This was fine, as we had a Brazilian resident traveling with us, but if it had been all Americans, it would have been difficult to book. Floors were creaky and walls were thin. We didn't mind at all, because other guests were quiet, but if there were loud neighbors, it might be bothersome.

The room could have a few more amenities - there was only one bedside table and only overhead lighting (aside from a very dim bedside lamp).

Super central location, but despite that quiet place. Very friendly and helpful staff. Would come back to that place.

Did not have blackout curtains at first. This was fixed then on the next day, though.
