Breakfast was cooked fine but very limited - we had to ask about juice and there didn't appear to be any fruit, yogurt or other cereals other than porridge.
Staff in the evening and check out were extremely nice.
Room was small considering we paid for a deluxe double room with bath - roman blind did not work well - so limited light into room - we should have just booked the small double - I would drop the deluxe from the title. Very expensive for what it was.
Dinner - we had dinner at another pub for first night - it was excellent (The Lamb). Decided to see if the Royal Standard was as good - food was awful. Hamburger my husband had was not up to standard of burgers in other pubs and my fish & chips - the batter was overcooked and thick chips were very dry - the previous night's pub meal had a bigger menu with same or cheaper prices and their food was of very high standard.

Ideal situation near to everything. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Good breakfast choices. Rooms lovely, warm and cosy. Bed very comfortable. Big bathroom with bath and shower.

The property was in the centre of the town within walking distance of most attractions. The room was very warm and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The breakfast menu was only varied cooked breakfast or porridge.
Our room was overlooking the road and traffic noise was constant. The room and en suite were exceptionally warm. The decor was not really to our taste, the en-suite had white tiles on the walls which looked as if they had been distressed and reminded me of a very old public convenience.

very good breakfast ,very clean hotel throughout, and helpful staff. Hotel was in an excellent location with a large municipal car park to the reaer. there was a very pleasant beer garden to the rear
whilst I appreciate the room was facing the road, there was no secondary glazing to reduce the impact of street noise during the night.the bed was comfy but very low which could cause problems to people with mobility issues

Good standard of room, bed very comfortable, plenty of space to move around the room. very friendly helpful staff. Nearby free parking. The food was very good, the breakfasts are superb. The atmosphere in the evening was friendly and relaxed.
Although the bathroom was spacious, it needs a shelf near the sink for guests to put their own toiletries.

Cooked breakfast was very good but only offered one cup of coffee, no juice, no fruit, no cereal, no marmalade. As a single occupancy I paid £130 for a room above an ordinary pub. Too expensive.

Lovely old building, tastefully modernised but retaining unique features like the old bread oven near the bar. Very friendly and helpful staff, quickly changed our bed arrangement on arrival.
The full English breakfast was the best ever, with home made spicy black pudding to die for 😉
Shower floor not non slip but staff said a non slip mat was available on request; better to have it in the room methinks 🙄
Toilet seat fixing loose but I find this is common nowadays with plastic lightweight seats as opposed to older traditional types.
Heavy lorries passing the building can be noisy and the building shakes, but not really an issue.

Verry nice place to stay in the hart of Ely.
There is some noise of traffic becouse of the authentic windows.
The rooms are a little bit smaler than what the pictures show, (exept the junior suite) nevertheless lovely place to stay!!

I loved the location perfect distance from both the town Center and the riverside, the room we stayed in was absolutely stunning.

Breakfast was a full English or a selection from it - also toast and marmalade nicely done and plenty of tea. The room was comfortable and had plenty of room for our needs - the ensuite bathroom was spacious with plenty of hot water readily available. We had dinner out in Ely both nights we were there so cannot comment on the in-house dinner.
We found the noise from the traffic in front of the hotel ended late and started early - but did not disturb our sleep unduly.

Great location. Staff very friendly, room very clean, bathroom and shower lovely. Free parking. Nice evening meal and good breakfast.
The noise levels from outside were horrendous. Two members of staff said because the building was listed it still had the original sash single glazed windows and they couldn't be changed but secondary glazing could and should be installed for peoples comfort. Properties opposite and further down the road have done this. There was a privacy issue as buildings opposite could see straight into the room so you had to put blind down then this made this very dark indeed during the day and the lighting in the room was poor. I had booked 2 nights but I couldn't stay there for the second night and I hardly slept due to the noise so cut short my stay. I did laugh though when a live band kicked off opposite so I tried to turn the tv up to watch something and the volume level was fixed so I couldn't.

A very comfortable stay with friendly and attentive staff. For a city location we were able to park for free in the public car park behind the pub with rear access to the pub. Excellent location and just a 5 minute walk down to the river

The room was lovely and comfortable, Just what we were after, the location was excellent. Easy to walk to bars and restaurants. The street was busy and loud, we didn't realise we had visited Ely on the weekend if the beer festival. We didn't mind so much though as we just wanted some space away from home together. Had a lovely relaxing bath, lovely and warm in the room (although it may get stifling in the summer!) The staff were very nice and the breakfast was very good.
We decided to see the cathedral just a few minutes up the hill, then down the hill for the small harbor and to the lovely Peacocks tearoom. ( the menu for tea's is extensive, if you like tea and cake, go there!)
On top of all of that we managed to get free parking. Free for a certain amount of time (behind the pub/hotel) then free on Sunday and we arrived Saturday evening, so worked out well. Although the signs are a little confusing, so if you arrived on a different day I'm not sure how to work out if and how you would pay.
The road was very busy and being an old building the windows did not mask much of the sound, but we were right in the centre and close to everything, a compromise we were willing to accept. (especially as the building and the room had a lovely old charm to it)
One thing I would mention, (I was 33 weeks pregnant so this could just be me being clumsy) the top steps on the 1st floor are at a funny angle, due again to being an old building, the carpet seems to camouflage the steps welI, and at least twice I slipped or missed a step, but had a good hold on the banister. Cue husband panicking! No injuries though!

The room was great, very comfortable bed, really good shower in the en suite. The breakfast was very good, would recommend the vegetarian with halloumi.
We stayed in No.3 at the front of the property and suffered with road noise, which could be fixed by secondary or even double glazing. A blackout blind to shut out the street lighting would have made this room perfect.
