We have created a custom local West End guide that includes our favorite haunts for you to peruse upon arrival. The West End is a very friendly, safe neighborhood. Don't hesitate to say hi! The location is close to the old port shops, art galleries and the city's many restaurants, yet it's located in Portland's historic district, one of the safest and most beautiful areas in the city. Walking distance to Mercy Hospital and Maine Medical Center and a short drive to the Maine College of Art and the University of Southern Maine. Beautiful Harborview Park overlooks the Portland Waterfront and is 500 feet away. It is a 3-minute walk to a curated neighborhood market and restaurant called Little Giant where you can buy fine wines/beer, sandwiches, pastries, and other sundries. The restaurant serves continental European cuisine. A 10-minute walk will bring you to Rosemont market where you will find groceries, local organic produce, wine/beer, and sandwiches. A juice bar (Farm Truck Juice) is right next door to Rosemont, serving organic cold-pressed juices. Want some pizza? Try Bonobo pizza right across the street from Rosemont serving wood fired pizza and local beer. Want to visit one of Portland’s oldest bars? Head over to Ruski’s…it’s just a 2-minute walk. You’ll find a local crowd here with pub-style food and friendly service. The Danforth Inn is just a few minutes walk away and boasts some of the finest dining and cocktails in Portland. Go here and at least have a drink in the bar; you will not be disappointed. One last you love breakfast sandwiches, walk a few blocks over to Ohno Cafe and try one of their award-winning sandwiches.
Plenty of free parking on the street is readily available as there are no meters in the West End. You can utilize Uber or taxi companies to get to and from the property while you are here. Portland is also very bicycle friendly if you want to bring bikes along. There is a city bus line that has a stop right around the corner from the property.
The property is a rock's throw from Portland's historic Danforth street corridor, the most popular walking route from the West End to the Old Port. Nearby are two playgrounds if you are traveling with children as well as the Reiche Elementary School play fields. Maine Medical Center is a half mile away in case of any emergencies.

This place is in a great location, close to many things in Portland. There is a cute little coffee shop just blocks away. Both beds were super comfy. There isn't much seating in the living for 4, just a couch and wooden bench. The shower doesn't give much water pressure and there isn't anywhere to put your toiletries as it's a single pedestal sink so that was a challenge with 3 girls. It could of used some additional cleaning also.

Jason was a great host. The space was a cute and cozy little home away from home. We will definitely be back!!

My daughter and I had a wonderful weekend exploring Portland, rented bikes and saw the light houses. The apartment is adorable, spacious and quirky, exactly as you see on the pictures. In walking distance to downtown. Would stay there again.

Charming property and friendly hosts, with easy access to the airport, major highways as well as local spots. We used this as a sort of base camp to look at a number of colleges in the area. Wished to have stayed longer and will definitely stay again.

We stayed one night. It was clean and the host was very reaponse. Getting into the property was easy. The pullout sofa was stuck but the host offered an air mattress. It had everything you would need.

I stayed with my daughter. I thought the location of this apartment is great. Lots within walking distance, and neighborhood felt safe/was quiet. Parking was a little tricky, spaces on the street seemed to fill up in the evenings. We had to park up the street and around the corner two nights.
The layout of the apartment is different. One bedroom and a small living room are downstairs and one bedroom, the bathroom and kitchen are upstairs. I agree with other reviews that the stairs are steep and would not be great for younger kids or anyone who has trouble with stairs. Beds were very comfortable. Couch was comfortable as well, though it is the only seating in the living room other than a wooden bench. If we had more than just the two of us it would have felt crowded and I would not book this place for more than four. The bathroom could use a little attention. The pedestal sink was quite loose and pulling away from the wall, peeling paint, patched and unpainted walls and mildew on the ceiling over the shower. That said we fond the apartment was clean!

Bit of a weird layout inside but it did the job! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the location is a great proximity to downtown.

The location was great!
The bed room were great to,but we had to chare, because the hide bed was not usable, the mattress was only springs !
The bathroom sealing was flaky.
The screen dor had no screen!
And finally the stove had a gas leak!!
The owner had excuses for all those problems.
Not a great experience for our first time with VRBO

Perfect for what my husband and I needed for a few nights away in Portland. Great location, walkable to everything. Jason was very responsive to any questions we had. With 2 bedrooms, next time we’ll look to get some friends to join us!

The location was perfect--an easy walk to restaurants and beaches. The hosts' binder of places to go was helpful. It was also nice having bedrooms on two separate floors.

Cute place nearby to some things. Could use a few more lamps and the bathroom needs ventilation (couldn't open the window). Overall very happy with our choice! Owner left maps and recommendations which were very helpful.

Traveling from Boston. Quick getaway for 2 of us, just wanting to eat good food and relax. The apartment was the perfect location for someone who doesn’t want to stay in a hotel. The Danforth. Smalls, and Ruskies were all walking distance! 3 of my favorite places in Portland. The beds were super comfortable and the owner was 100% on point with anything I needed! I would definitely rent this location again.

The smell of sewage hits you in the face when you open the door (which can take15 tries before figuring out that you have the code right but need to pull on the knob while the electronic lock unlocks). Don't worry, you won't have to hold open the storm/screen door while doing this; you can reach right through because it's just a frame with a piece of wood hanging from it. After spraying some scented stuff in the foyer that hardly masks the stench, you'll find dented, scuffed up walls, banisters, ceilings, and furniture. You'll also find spider webs in most rooms that have been there long enough to collect dust, a ceiling covered in black mold above the shower, bulbs either completely missing or not working in nearly every light fixture, dead bugs on window sills or smeared to ceilings and walls, partially patched holes in some walls, chipped and mismatching mugs, cracked and moldy grout around the bathroom sink, a freezer with no handle, and a bare bones collection of pots and pans. You won't find trash bags (we looked everywhere), a welcome binder with any info about anything, departing instructions (other than a name tag sticker stuck to the door with a handwritten note about checkout being 11:00), comfortable furniture, or artwork that doesn't make you scratch your head.

Great location in an old part of Portland which is full of character; old brick buildings and brick sidewalks. Easy walking distance to many sites and restaurants. Be sure to read the owners guide book. His recommendations for sites and restaurants was right on. The lighthouses are a must, especially Portland Head. We had a great time here.

What a great spot! Less than a mile from downtown and great area for local dive-bars, coffee shops, parks, and more. Very accommodating host! Checked in and made sure everything was going well. Highly recommended for a couple or 3-4 people!

Enjoyed our stay
Unique little apartment very close to town within walking distance. Had the best night sleep of our entire vacation at this apartment. Not really a cooking kitchen, but who needs to cook when you have so many amazing restaurants to chose from. Owner was very responsive to our questions and even checked in to make sure we were doing OK.

Great Location!
The property owner was very helpful and responsive! The bed was comfortable. The property was very close to many locations, including a small park with a connection to the Harborwalk Trail. The sunrise one morning, as I stood looking over the harbor from the the street, was probably one of the most beautiful sunrises I've ever seen!

Property was as advertised and comfortable. Recommended.

Quant place with two bedrooms
Nice place. Do your research-it was built in the 1860s and has lots of tricky steps to get to one of the bedrooms, the only bathroom and the kitchen.
Full kitchen a huge plus. The place worked for us and was close ($10 or less Uber) to the piers and restaurants. Don’t know if it would work for elderly folks or families with small kids.
Owner was great.

Great Stay!
I stayed with my partner and some friends for a wedding weekend. Great location and the home was so clean. The owner was a message away in the event that we needed anything. Really nice to know for peace of mind.
Would highly recommend staying here!

All over greatness
Arrived to a very clean, well kept space that had the perfect setup for myself and daughter and her friend. Easy walking distance to eateries for breakfast and dinner. Also plenty of free street parking. Quiet neighborhood which we walked one morning to see the historic homes. Lovely!

Convenient location
Good location relative to Old Port. We walked there most of the time. Parking was readily available, and everything was convenient.

Great location and nice beds but not much else
Walking distance to all the downtown areas. However, the bathroom had mold, lamps were broken or missing, fixtures were broken and there is not a comfortable chair in the house. No place to sit outside either. Sent 6 different emails to the owner before and during the stay with simple updates or requests and he did not respond for one week. The dishwasher was broken, the freezer handle was broken off, smoke alarm was sheared off the ceiling and many broken or missing light bulbs and lamps. Overall, pretty disappointing accommodations and host. Would go back to Portland again but would not stay here again.

My dad and I stayed here two nights. The neighborhood was quiet and safe, street parking right in front was easy to find. Check in and check out process was easy. And the beds were insanely comfortable.
