About this villa rental
The Elmfield was built in the late Victorian period for a wealthy mineral water merchant. The house has been converted to provide 8 en suite boutique style bedrooms, complemented by spacious communal areas, a very large semi commercial kitchen and lovely gardens. In the house the large lounge with large TV, bar and dining room are all adjacent to each other - offering a lovely flow between the spaces for friends and family to get together. Just off the lounge is a games area with table football and a card table. The dining room is elegant and well lit, and the tables and chairs are flexible to seat up to 20 guests all together. Next to the dining room is the little cocktail/snug bar complete with glasses, shakers, fridges and recipe books. The large garden is arranged over 4 levels, the top level and gazebo level offer spectacular views over the valley, the middle level is where the private covered swimming pool is located, and on the lower level where the babbling Wilder brook provides the boundary is our cosy fire-pit - perfect for star gazing and marshmallow toasting. Within the grounds we have private off street car parking for 10 cars. The Elmfield is in the Torrs Park area of Ilfracombe, which sits overlooking the town. A couple of minutes from the house and you can be on the South West Coastal path, with simply breath taking views accross to Lundy Island and the Welsh coast. A short walk along the coast path will bring you to Lee, where the you can find a beautiful bay and a great pub. Walking to town takes about 10 minutes downhill, and Ilfracombe boasts some fabulous pubs, bars & restaurants. A few minutes further and you will find yourself at Ilfracombe's picturesque Harbour, here you can while away an afternoon watching the nautical world come and go, or stroll down to where Damian Hirsts impressive Verity can be admired. For experienced and novice anglers - there are plenty of sea fishing opportunities. If you prefer to just take in the beautiful North Devon coastline one of our sightseeing tours will be only too happy to oblige. Ilfracombes famous attraction Tunnel beach is only a few minutes walk from the house, here the rock pooling and family facilities really are excellent. There is also the beautiful Tunnels beach wedding venue, if you are coming to a wedding at the tunnels then our house is a great value option for a group of friends or family. If you are looking for activities we are just a short drive away from the world class beaches of Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton. Here you can surf, kite surf, paddle board, body board or just take a dip in the Ocean. Coasteering is a wonderfully exhilarating day activity. Exmoor is just on our doorstep where you can find some truly stunning scenery. We're very happy to advise or help you organise all manner of day and evening activities and entertainments.

We were a large family group of 22. This was the first time we had all stayed together and the property worked really well for us. We didn't feel like we were on top of each other, we loved the pool. All in all our few days at this property were a great success.

The property was exactly as described.

The Perfect house!
We stayed here over new year, a party of 23, 10 adults, 13 children & 2 dogs. The house was just perfect from each & every bedroom having an ensuite, to the downstairs floor that covered all the entertaining from dining, lounge area, playing darts & enjoying the bar area! The swimming really was a hit was the children, everyday it was used & kept to the correct temperature & monitored by Matt....a beautiful aera to be located in, we explored alot from the walks around ilfracombe to the beautiful Clovelly. Really was the perfect house to have 5 families live in for the week celebrating Christmas & New Year. Matt & Zoe kept in touch the whole booking process & were on hand through out if needed, brilliant hosts! Would love to return in the near future.

A place where magic can happen
We hired the property for my Wife's 40th birthday and simply had the best time ever... which was absolutely facilitated by the fabulous house. The bar, the pool, the rooms, stunning location... all perfection. Would definitely stay again, and already have a colleague wanting to book it for a hen weekend. Thank you Matt and Zoe, you were the perfect hosts!

Beautiful property - fantastic location.
We booked Elmfield to hold a pre-Christmas family gathering and the venue proved just perfect for what we wanted.. everybody had their own bedroom and en-suite and the communal areas were cosy, comfortable and worked beautifully to suit everybody. I had asked Zoe and Matt if we could have an Xmas tree and a few decorations just to make it feel a little Christmassy and they surpassed all our expectations with their efforts - thankyou both,!
Would definitely return and highly recommend.

Perfect location for a family get away.
The property was a great home from home with everything we needed. The young adults made the bar area their own while the small children loved the playroom. We didn't need to brìng any toys as there were plenty. There was plenty of space for games in the evening and the kitchen had everything we needed for big family meals. We loved the pool and it was great that we all had our own bathroom
It was an easy walk to local shops and restaurents and there was plenty to do for all ages is the local area.

Stayed for a weekend family get together with a wide range of adult ages , the house fell way short of expections . Very little info was in the info book at the property. Owner showed one of the party around very very quickly than asked for A sum in cash to cover the cost of the dogs which we booked. We had booked the dogs on the form and had assumed that this had already been included in the final bill. No where previously had we been informed that we had to pay this in Cash on arrival and no receipt was given.
The house was dark and had a damp smell particulary in the bar and lounge area. The heating seemed to consist of a few electric 1970's ? wall heaters that either didnt work or smelt so bad we had to turn them off, being single glazed it was cold on an evening. There were some radiators on the upper floors but no thermostat/ boiler or instructions of how to turn on. The bedrooms were all a good size, however the carpets were dirty and stained , some of the showers didnt work, others clogged with limescale. Many of the ensuites are little more than cupboards with no storage and or towel rails etc, some of the showers had mouldy silicone and , shelves so sloped that stuff slid straight off! Some rooms dont have wardrobes just a hanging rail with 2 coat hangers , dirty side lights by the bed and many rooms had missing lightbulbs . Tv's didnt work in some rooms , they wernt actually connected to an aerial. . Mattress particulary on the 4 poster beds were ancient and very uncomfortable, none of the pillows even had pillow protectors. The living areas, the sofas in the lounge were disgraceful, dirty 1980's style held together with duct tape where under the seats had ripped and rotted, there is no cinema screen as advertised, simply a tv on the wall! The music system was hilarius, just an aux lead in the bar that plugged into a speaker and hifi system with cassette player and mini disk in the kitchen. You have to have a phone with an old syle headphone socket to be able to use either .... the wifi signal was so weak it was impossible to stream music . The dining room has 8 odd tables and odd of different sizes covered in a plastic table cloth. odd chairs. Not enough wine of champagne glasses for 14 . Indoor pool is at the bottom of steep garden , impossible for the older ones to get to , filthy changing rooms, sides of pool look like peeling lino and pool full of woodlice.. garden is awful, very steep and uneven

Big family get together
We loved the house. There were 15 adults, 2 teenagers and 3 children. It was an amazing space for us all and so well equipped. We especially enjoyed the pool which was great for the children!!

Great location and venue
My family and friends hired the venue out for the long weekend and could not have been more happier with the bar.... The pool and the bedrooms were immaculate and clean. The host was contactable if we should ever need anything and the area was very pleasant in walking distance of the town and a fifteen minute drive from wilcombe beach which I highly recommend.

Wonderful, comfortable and interesting house
A lovely house, very homely and with everything you could need, no matter your age. We celebrated my 60th birthday here, it was great for everyone aged from 3 to 88. With the heated pool, games room, fab bar, huge sitting and dining areas, and really nice bedrooms, it was perfect. Car park was a bit tight, but OK if you’re careful. We all want to do this again!

Relaxed, fun, good value
Went as a group of 13. Great facilities, especially for cooking as used to be a hotel. Great to have the whole place to yourself.

A fabulous place for a family get together
We had a fantastic time at the Elmfield, it's a great house to gather together family for a celebration. We celebrated my mothers 70th birthday while staying at the house and she was absolutely delighted. All the children enjoyed the pool which was warm enough for Mum to join in the fun (although getting to the pool via the steep path was a bit tricky). All the adults enjoyed the bar area and with my brother particularly relishing the job of barman - to lots of Eastenders jokes! the bedrooms were all comfy and having our own ensuites was a boom. We found the
owners to be helpful and responsive, we had a couple of extra guests last minute and the owners quickly rustled up extra beds and covers. We're looking forward to going back next year.
