Please Read: Animals and Insects
We have an outdoor cat, Mittens. No animals are ever allowed inside the guest house and it is allergen free. But Mittens will come over and say hi outside during your visit. Also, we have three miniature horses in a fenced pasture several hundred feet down the hill from the guest house. If exposure to these animals is not to your liking, please do not book this guest house.
Also, Hawaii is a tropical climate, and this guest house is at ground level in a natural setting surrounded by fields and woods. Animals and insects abound in this ecosystem year-round. At this guest house you will encounter animals and insects. There will be singing birds, mongoose, gecko lizards, and insects around the exterior of the house. You may even find a gecko lizard or insects inside the house during your stay. We as hosts do all we can to minimize geckos and insects in the interior, including maintaining all screens and weather stripping on the doors and using a monthly pest control service. Nevertheless, it is possible that a gecko lizard will dart in an open door. While geckos are harmless, they may be difficult or impossible to catch once in the house. It is also likely that you will find some insects inside the house during your stay. The most common type to get in are millipedes, which are black or red in color and 1" long. They can get through the smallest cracks around the bottom of the sliding screen doors. They do not bite and will not hurt you but are a nuisance on the floor. They are slow moving and easy to sweep up and remove.
Please consider this ecological setting before booking. Because this natural ecosystem is part of the setting for this guest house, and we want to be clear about this before you book, no refunds or cancellations will be given for animals and insects.
Please note: Hawaii State and County transient accommodation taxes and general excise sales taxes are added by VRBO when you book. Taxes are subject to change without notice.
Please note: long-term stay cleaning service. If staying for 3 weeks or longer, an additional cleaning service is required during your stay at a rate of $32 per hour. The cleaning time may be one that is mutually acceptable, and you will need to reimburse the hosts directly for this service by cash or check.

A fabulous property in a great location. Exceptional hosts. We appreciated all of the recommendations they provided. Enjoyed our stay and highly recommend.

We would love to still be there. Everything was perfect. While the entire house is lovely, I must say that this is the best equipped kitchen at any rental house I’ve stayed at. So finding the local ingredients and then cooking up feasts was amazing - to be able to eat like kings and queens and look out at the beautiful Bay.

This property is exceptional, we had a fantastic stay! The property is beautiful, extremely well landscaped and maintained. The guest house is modern, luxurious, comfortable, clean, has wonderful indoor/outdoor feel. The kitchen is very well equipped with all we could have ever needed. The guest house offers plenty of privacy, beautiful and unobstructed views of the ocean and sunsets. We really enjoyed the grill and private hot tub, picking limes in the orchard, and feeding the miniature horses! Location is great, less than one mile to Kealakekua Bay and snorkeling at Captain Cook Monument. Definitely hope to be back!

The property is beautiful, comfortable, and peaceful. If you truly want to get away, this is it, while still being not too far from shopping, restaurants, and the beach. The owner has thought of pretty much everything. There are even spices to share. Can't say enough.

Everything about our stay was wonderful. Our hosts made a great effort to provide all the amenities that would make our stay easy and enjoyable.
We thoroughly enjoyed the secluded location, the birdsong, and the geckos and other wildlife that visited from time to time.
The location was also convenient for trips north to the beach and south to the volcanos.
Should we make it back to the big island, we would happily stay at this same property.

We were absolutely delighted with this beautiful property and the beautiful grounds. We never tired of the gorgeous views of the bay from the lanai or the hot tub. I don't think we've ever stayed at a vacation rental that was so well stocked with anything we could have possibly needed. The beach gear was put to good use. Tammy the owner was friendly and helpful with any information we needed. I thought the area was in a perfect location that was quiet but still a close drive to everywhere we wanted to go. It was so peaceful there we didn't want to leave. Would absolutely love to visit again.

This VRBO is a true 5-star. It is ideally set up for one or two couples. The kitchen has every possible device, pan, pot or bowl any chef could want. The beds and baths are all first class down to details that are over and above the usual VRBO. The unit is on a very private property with exclusive access and the generous hosts are near-by and willing to advise and help with questions and details. It has a panoramic view of the Captain Cook Bay and the Pacific. We have only been gone a few days are already thinking about coming back. If you are lucky the local cat will sit on your lap and purr as the sun sets over the ocean, she somehow knows she lives in paradise.

Amazing stay, beautiful property, lovely hosts! Cannot beat the nearly 180 degree ocean view! We went on runs down to the nearby beach, said hello to the mini horses, and watched boats down in the bay. Would stay again in a heartbeat! Thank you to Tammy and Joe!

We could not have been luckier to find this place. Beautiful, well-appointed house in the best location in South Kona!

Tammy and Joe's guest house is absolutely gorgeous, very well-stocked. It sits on a hill above one of the most beautiful bays on the big island. Short walk to the beach. dolphins and whales in the bay. Good food and great coffee close by. We mostly cooked for ourselves in the great kitchen. The owners are next door and very responsive, but not at all intrusive. Fabulous place!

Everything about the Guest House is incredible. The location was beautiful with views of Kealakekua Bay and amazing sunsets every evening. The exterior of the Guest House is so inviting and is matched by the interior. The furnishings are exquisite and the gourmet kitchen has everything you need to make every meal a delight. The grounds are immaculate and the next door garden had ripe mangoes, papaya, grapefruit and oranges perfect for enjoying. One of favorites times was relaxing in the hot tub, after a day enjoying the ocean, watching another glorious sunset. Joe and Tammy were outstanding hosts and we loved every moment we spent there. We are already planning our next trip and can't wait to come back. This is indeed a Rare Beauty and Luxury at Kealakekua Bay. Mahalo for a perfect vacation and Aloha to Tammy and Joe

This house, what dreams are made of. We needed an animal fix after being on vacation for a week, and mittens was right outside on the lanai hanging out while I grilled to an amazing pacific sunset. Joe and Tammy are so generous, this place was the most equipped rental I have ever stayed at anywhere. I appreciate the beer! The area has so many local things to see and do, the salt farm, Kona brewing, free coffee farm tours and the amazing coffee shacks and street side vendors. I felt like I was home and spent a good bit of time looking for property in the area, I would love to have neighbors like Tammy and Joe.

We had such a wonderful time at Tammy and Joe’s guest house. Every detail was noted throughout the guest house. Their guest house is just decorated so beautifully. Anything you could possibly need is included. The kitchen rocks! We had Chef Sheldon cook a 7-course dinner one night and he was so impressed by the kitchen! Take advantage of inquiring with Tammy, if interested in an in-home Chef experience! The view is breathtaking! The sunsets are gorgeous and different every day! We spent a lot of time on the lanai listening to countless species of birds, looking at the views, and just relaxing. Tammy is a terrific host and can answer all of your questions. Manini beach is a must! ChoiceMart delivers which we took advantage of with late arrival. This guest house is not to be missed! It’s simply, perfect! Mahalo for everything! And Aloha! Till we see you again!

Joe and Tammy have created a wonderful Guest House with their thoughtful decoration of East meets West. We all enjoyed their wonderfully appointed kitchen, the hot tub , sitting in patio and enjoying the island breeze while reading, relaxing, taking a nap. Joe and Tammy showed us their garden, picked us papayas and mangoes that we enjoyed for breakfast and dessert. It was just wonderful and the perfect end to a long vacation. Thank you.

This “guest house” is wonderful! Truly a home away from home. Very very well built and maintained. Impeccably clean. Very tastefully and beautifully decorated and furnished. The kitchen had everything we needed - including many basic food and condiment items with the exception being cooking oil - which we purchased and left for future guests). Excellent cookware and well appointed kitchen for sure. The only item we would have liked to find , but didn’t, was a wok, but we made due without.
The backyard orchard was amazing and we enjoyed freshly pressed grapefruit juice every morning and fruit including perfect mangos and papayas as well as oranges and kefir limes. Soursop were not ripe, sadly, and the star fruit tree was in full bloom but fruits were still immature and not close to ripe. The hot tub was a welcome treat upon arrival and we enjoyed it along with the cold beer selection left for us in the refrigerator. And the view? Stunning. Perfect place to enjoy sunsets and just as lovely for morning coffee/tea and breakfast. The BBQ pagoda was so nice - one of the best gas grills I’ve used. Did a great job for fish but also plenty of heat for searing steak. The grounds were beautiful and lovingly cared for. This place really has it all.
While I was initially worried about the lack of AC, in the end, it wasn’t a factor with the ceiling fan and the nearly omnipresent ocean breeze. The beds were comfortable with nice quality linens. Outdoor and indoor showers were both enjoyed. Being from CA, with tight water restrictions, the deluge of water from the indoor showers made it hard to pull yourself out!
Lastly, Tammy was delightfully helpful though we never had the pleasure of meeting in person. Mittens, their beautiful, sweet and affectionate cat, spent many evenings and mornings with us. She was pretty much our dining companion. Neither of us are particularly “cat people,” but she is hard not to love. We would, and have, recommended this property to friends, and would book again in a heartbeat next time we return to big island. Though certainly not inexpensive, the value, especially compared to the resort hotels, is excellent. Mahalo Tammy for allowing us to stay in your fabulous guest house. Until we return… Aloha!

Without a doubt, Tammy and Joe’s place made our vacation extra special. It was even more that what we expected (despite the other rave reviews) - fully stocked kitchen and beach supplies, breathtaking views, stellar design. We ate in more than we did out, and it was hard to go sightseeing because no one wanted to leave the house!
Excellent communication, very accommodating, super clean, and just an all around fantastic, non-touristy way to experience the big island.

Sublime!
Words cannot even begin to articulate how exceptional not only this property is, but also Joe and Tammy’s attention to detail and consideration of guest comfort. We always choose to stay at Vrbos when we travel and Joe and Tammy’s guest house is far and away, the best! From their instant communications, to the finest of house details, every need is anticipated and every question answered. The location is stunning, the property and furnishings luxurious and immaculate, Tammy and Joe even surprised us with little “treats” like cold beer, sparkling water, creamer, chocolates, and curated spa products. Everything you need to start your stay is available, and they are generous with their supplies of towels and linens and soaps and anything you could need in the kitchen!. It felt like staying at home. We also enjoyed meeting both Tammy and Joe and they are just truly lovely people! They respected and valued our privacy but if we needed something, they were a quick call away! We also loved meeting their cat, Mittens, and the 3 mini horses in the pasture down the driveway. Everything from the fresh fruit orchard, the hot tub, the grill gazebo, the candles… all just added to the comfort and serene environment. Their guest house is situated down a long windy neighborhood road nestled in the stunning Kealakekua Bay valley. It was quiet and extremely peaceful. We simply can’t say enough about our stay and we are looking forward to returning! Exceptionally exceptional! Mahalo Tammy and Joe!

Beautiful Home with Gracious Hosts
Tammy and Joe have a beautiful home in a quiet neighborhood. The home was incredibly appointed, stocked and maintained - it's obviously a labor of love for them to take care of guests. Away from the hustle and bustle of Kailua Kona, we were able to enjoy peace and quiet for a week. The setup is perfect for a pair of couples who enjoy traveling together. To top it all off, Tammy and Joe were incredibly helpful and engaging. We'll be back!

Fabulous Vacation
Thank you Tammy and Joe for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. Everything was perfect. We had all of the comforts of home and then some. The views were beautiful and we enjoyed visits from your dog, Cocoa and a friendly duck we fondly refer to as Henry. The location was perfect for exploring the island. We also appreciated the many dining suggestions you provided and the little added touches of luxury throughout the house (almond milk, chocolates, toiletries, and yoga mats). Mahalo for a memorable vacation!

Very beautiful place and great location
The house is very spacious and tastefully furnished and decorated. It offers a great view of the Kealakekua Bay and we can see Captain Cook Monument from the house garden and patio.
The orchard next to the house is full of surprises too - we picked ripen papayas, grapefruits and oranges and they were simply delicious. Our hosts Tammy and Joe are very friendly and responsive. We were allowed maximum privacy to ourselves but they were just a message or phone call away when I had any questions.
The kitchen is fully stocked with different seasonings, tools, cups, plates, pans etc. And we were particularly amazed by the juicy pressor and used it a couple of times to make orange and grapefruit juicy with the fruits we got from the orchard.
It is so easy to get to the best snorkeling places and nearby beaches. This saved us lots of time in the morning and we were able to beat the crowd in some popular parks.
We would highly recommend it to friends and family.
