Wonderful host , great layout with bedrooms away from the rest of the house. No worries about waking up the little ones. Very convenient to the North shore and new Hampshire

We had a fantastic stay. The house is spacious and has a layout that provides quite bedrooms for family who needed to rest up after a long drive and spacious game room and kitchen with dining table for a perfect family catch-up, chat time.
Most of the space and linens were clean and ready to use. However we did find signs of mice and household bugs, i.e. droppings in extra folding bed-frames and kitchen cupboards.
The one bedroom has windows toward the street and car noise is quite loud, starting as early 5:30 am in the morning.
Overall, I highly recommend staying at this place. Steve had stocked up the fridge with juice and snack which is very appreciated. We will certainly consider returning if there's another family event.

Shades were ripped and towels were all stained. Host graciously met us at start of stay and left snacks for us. Comfortable beds.

In 2015, my family stayed at the Rum Runner House for my oldest son's wedding. This time my youngest son got married and imagine my joy when the Rum Runner House was available to rent this weekend since we had such a good time the first time we stayed here. My family thoroughly enjoyed EVERYTHING this house had to offer. The kitchen was well stocked, the full bathrooms and bedrooms were spacious and the game room entertained the younger and older generations alike. We have relatives living within 2-3 minutes from the Rum Runner House. It was very convenient to gather here and have dinner at times up to 16 adults and 5 children.
Steve was the most gracious host with his prompt replies to my questions and went above and beyond his call of duty to make sure we got the lobsters we forgot in the house after we checked out. He also had snacks and drinks available upon arrival which we appreciated.
All my children are married now but the Rum Runner House will be our first choice for the next family event.

Unfortunately, the property did not live up to the five star rating. I realized the home was older with older furniture but the condition of some of it was disappointing. The size of the property was good for a larger group. Beds not what stated. Bunk is a full bottom not queen. The two extra beds/cots were not usable for an adult size person. The space has a lot of potential but feels very unorganized. There were random old things in cabinets, for example, the laundry room had old socks and shoes. Kitchen cabinet doors loose as were drawers, dishwasher falling out when door was opened. The owner met us at the house to check in, tho I’m sure well intentioned, was not necessary and made some in our party uncomfortable. The checkout process was easy. The neighborhood nice, plenty or parking on the grounds

House is a long rambler with dated furniture that has almost come back into style. It worked for us totally. I communicated with the host on day we were to arrive through app and via email but never heard from him. I was only informing him we would be coming in the next day due to plane connection complications. He never responded back with even an ok so we felt if we did need something he would not be available. The host had left some beverages in fridge and snacks for our arrival so that was very kind. Overall good home for our purposes.

Siblings, cousins, and I needed a place to stay while attending a baby shower in Bedford. We probably could’ve Hosted the baby shower in this house there was so much space and seating, even more than we expected. But we had fun playing ping pong and catching up when we got home from our family event and all slept great. Thanks for the comfy lodging!

My stay at the Rum Runner was very special. The check in process was easy and friendly - Steve was lovely and showed me the lay of the land. He left snacks to get us started which won the hearts of my kids. ;-). The house is minutes away from the center of Phillips Academy. It is the perfect place for a family... great equipped kitchen, ping pong table, outdoor space, several generous bedrooms and the bathrooms were large. The house is very warm and has an interesting history. It was a treat to stay there - I will definitely be back with my full crew! Thank you Steve for making my kids drop off experience so much more enjoyable.

It was a good spot for what my group was wanting, which was a clean, spacious area to play some games together. Host was very communicative and accommodating. Also left us some unopened chips and juice, which was very kind!

Owners were very accommodating, beds comfortable, ping pong table was so much fun, and the house was extremely quiet. Great layout and interesting history. We did have a minor issue with earwig insects so if bugs are a big problem for you, you may be unhappy. They are harmless and we just disposed of them.

My family and I stayed here while in town for a funeral. The house is wonderful, and although it’s on a Main Street it was really quiet. Steve is very thoughtful and provided drinks and snacks and the communication was wonderful. We will definitely stay here again.

We had a sister reunion in our hometown! For part of the stay we four sisters were joined by 4 adult children and an infant. We had a small gathering after a memorial service for 17. We were comfortably accommodated. The house was a perfect fit and perfect configuration for our needs! We heartily thanked the host!

This house was perfect for 5 adults and an infant. Good location not far from good dining, and stores for essentials. All our questions were answed in a timely manner, and host was very hospitable. We would definitely stay there again if in the area.

We had a wonderful stay and absolutely loved this house! It was pleasant, spacious, has high ceilings throughout, and has many separate areas. Some beds seemed a bit more comfortable than others but I think everyone was comfortable enough. Having two full baths plus a half bath was quite a luxury. And the bedroom with two built-in desks is a great place to do work! The outside patio area with the large table was super pleasant! The kitchen worked great for us! While the house is on a corner, we didn't notice any road noise inside at all, and even on the patio, while you can hear cars going by, it wasn't bothersome or constant, plus there's a fence! Having a printer wasn't something we'd thought about but turned out to be useful. Our only regret was that we couldn't have stayed longer :). Communication leading up to our stay was great as well!

Great location for our son’s graduation from Merrimack College!
Rum Runner was big enough to accommodate our large family of 9 for our son’s college graduation. We had plenty of room to spread out and not feel like we were on top of each other. The X-box was fun for family competitions.
We highly recommend this property!

Graduation
Our family met at the Rum Runner house to celebrate a graduation. It was super convenient to my family that was flying into Boston for the event. We were all adults, but this house is conveniently set up for family members of all ages, and we enjoyed a big bbq with a few additional guests that did include two children. There are plenty of games available for all to enjoy but the biggest hit was the ping pong table! Hopefully we will be back as it was a perfect location for us when we are expecting out of town visitors and much more fun than a hotel.

Perfect Andover Home with Terrific Host
If you're visiting Boston, Phillips Academy (Andover,) or touring surrounding New England areas -- especially with a larger family or group -- Steve's RumRunner home (definitely ask him about the home's unique name and history) is phenomenal. Extremely clean and well-appointed, the house is the perfect basecamp for families or a traveling group -- complete with ping pong, outdoor BBQ, lots of games, books, high-speed internet (perfect for remote workers,) cable tv, etc. What's really great about the house is that it is simultaneously sprawling giving everyone a chance to spread out (all on a single floor which makes it super and safely navigable for older guests!) -- but also, the home has plenty of very cozy living spaces (den, living room, formal dining, breakfast/casual dining) that are perfect for everyone to gather in. While definitely an older house -- it is ***very clean and comfortable*** with quality bedding and linen. Finally and perhaps most importantly, the homeowner/host is local, responsive, and deeply cares -- he proactively checked in (in no way obtrusively) to make sure our stay was going well and to see if we needed anything. Highly recommended without reservation!

Stay in Andover
We really enjoyed our stay at the Rum Runner House. We only live in the next town over…we refinished our floors and had to leave for a few days, which turned into a week. The house is charming and full of character. Immaculate, comfortable and well stocked with all the things you might have forgotten (thanks for the coffee)! Very spacious and bright. It was a pleasure to meet and work with Steve. I hope to never have to refinish floors again, but if we do, we know where to stay! Thanks again, Steve!

Amazing family friendly cozy rental
We had the best time here -- enough room for my mom, my husband and me, and my 4 year old to have our own space and privacy. The house is made for family get togethers. Steve was wonderful to work with, especially being patient with our changing check in time. I am so thankful we found this spot and will plan to book again soon. Can't beat the location. Hope to bring more family and friends next time.

Great Experience
Booked this place before our wedding so that our family that was visiting could stay with us and also so that the the hair stylist and makeup up artist could do our hair and makeup there. The house is pretty big and it had multiple hang out areas. It was able to accommodate some of the bridesmaids and the family with ease. There are also foldable beds that could be use. But we didn’t need to. Lots of closet and storage space.
The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals.
Paul was great at answering all my questions and working with my busy pre wedding schedule.
The property has some fancy old furniture which was great for photos before the wedding. My experience was great. I did not want to leave. The only negative thing I could say is that it could maybe use a new carpet soon.
Other than that. I highly recommend this place. Great experience.

Excellent property and host!
Spacious. We had 9 adults, a five year old, and two toddlers and never felt crowded. Bedrooms were nicely located as not to disturb the kids naps or grown up “siesta” time. Facility well stocked for a large group.

wonderful stay - small family reunion
We stayed at the Rum Runner House in December 2019 for our visit to Boston and to host a small family reunion/Christmas/80th birthday party of about 25 people. Steven is an excellent host. He communicated well with me pre-trip, and he was there to welcome me and my dad when we arrived at the property. Checking in and out was a breeze.
The property itself is ideal for gathering friends and family together. It is centrally located and easily accessible - and easy to find! - for family coming from Boston, New Hampshire and the North Shore. The house is set up well for entertaining guests. The kitchen is centrally located in the open floor plan and is well stocked. There are two large dining tables that can open up to accommodate eight folks each and two main sitting/living areas that are each equipped with comfortable sofas and chairs. The open and free flowing space provided our group of about 25 plenty of space to move around and mingle and plenty of room to sit down and eat. The single level ranch, requiring no steps to enter, made it easy for elderly family members to access any part of the house that they chose. We were all inside owing to the winter conditions, but the house has a large deck in back as well as a large yard that I imagine would make for great places to gather during warmer times of the year.
I had a few friends over for a dinner party the night before our family party, and a couple of my friends with longer drives were able to spend the night thanks to the many bedrooms and sleeping areas - which allowed us to visit together longer and make a breakfast party of it as well.
All of our weekend guests to the Rum Runner House commented on what a welcoming and positive space the home provided for our get-togethers. Steven provided excellent local advice on party supplies and made sure that the grill had plenty of gas for a lot of barbecuing. We ended up having a wonderful visit to Boston and this property meeting all of our needs was a huge part of that. I am thankful that we found this unique property for our visit, and I am thankful to Steven for being such a welcoming and gracious host!

As advertised, and then some
We stayed here with some friends and family for our nearby wedding. Steve received us warmly and gave us a thorough and helpful tour of the house. It was just perfect for us-- two large bathrooms and a half bath, and the bedrooms were far from the hangout social space so noise wasn't an issue. It would be great to stay in for a wedding, or with family for graduation!
