Ryan's Ocean View was the perfect choice for our family holiday. The house was exceptional and well equipped with everything we needed. The hot tub was a bonus. The beach right in front of the house was great and the location was close to so many other great beaches like Galloway, Gordon's, Bon Accord and the very fun Dean's Blue Hole. Bill and Patrice were excellent hosts and were very responsive to all of our inquiries. Overall it was a great experience and we would recommend Ryan's Ocean View to anyone planning to visit beautiful Long Island.

We had a wonderful relaxing vacation. property was set up perfect for 4 adults. There was a hot tub but we did not used as we preferred the beach. Property is located on an amazing beach for finding sea glass. Bill was very responsive if we needed anything

We had an excellent time at Ryan's View.Bill welcomed us like old friends when we arrived. The property was clean and stocked with everything you need to enjoy your stay. The views from the deck and hot tub are amazing ,nice ocean breezes and star covered sky.Several of the islands nicest beaches are south of Clarence Town, which makes the location perfect. The Long Islanders are very welcoming locals, making the island very clean and safe for visiting travelers. Can't wait to go back. Thanks Bill Aloha Ed & Heather

Beautiful stay in paradise
This house was a total dream! Completely secluded with access to a stunning white sand beach. It's not totally obvious in the pictures but there is a private elevated deck about 100 ft from the house overlooking the ocean complete with lounge chairs. Heaven! The views from the house are outstanding. We saw whales while having coffee our first morning. I think I had the best sleep of my life here. Truly paradise.

"The most beautiful place I have ever been"
The house isextraordinary: classic, elegant, yet friendly and informal, sitting slightly apart on a slight ridge overlooking the gorgeous, wild, coral-reef strewn eastern shore of Long island. The house is well equipped and the support is extraordinarryy, both from the owner and from the whole wonderful, close-knit Long Island community, for whom attentive and hospitable service still seems to be a pleasure, not a facade. Do mark well, however: YOU WILL NEED A CAR. The house is about five miles from the nearest town, and the town itself is another five miles from the nearest grocery store. The owner is helpful making connections, but you should factor this into your budget.

Ryan’s ocean view was a perfect place to stay while exploring southern Long Island. Communication pre arrival was flawless and we were greeted (like royalty) upon arrival. This was our family’s 4 Long Island stay- and we found everything at Ryan’s Ocean View clean, well taken care of, and we’ll thought out for anyone traveling to Long Island. Thanks Bill & Ingred we will be back!

Just what we wanted, and more
Spent a wonderful week exploring the island. Bill met us at the airport with the car and even took to the grocery and liquor store on the way down! View and hot tub are outstanding. House is well-appointed.
Be prepared; you are on the ocean side and there may be windy days, but you can find less wind on the leeward side (Galloway, Ford’s, Gordon’s beaches). This is one of the Out Islands and we’ve experienced power failures on all of them; just roll with it. It will come back on. Bill and Patrice kept us updated and checked in daily.
Use Trip Advisor and Google maps for places to eat and things to do. Go off the beaten path!
Hope to return to Ryan’s Ocean view!

Getaway to Bahamas
Beautiful home on the Atlantic side of Long Island, Bahamas.
Charming island where everyone seems to know each other, and look out for each other.
William Carroll and Ingrid were excellent hosts, responsive to any problems that arise.
Great vacation!

Wonderfully quiet, comfortable home
What a wonderful place to get away from it all. Easy, beautiful beach access, and minutes away from loads of other spectacular, serene places. You'll likely be on the beach alone with only the breeze and some waves to keep you company.

Beautiful House and Beaches - The Perfect Spot
We had a really great week on Long Island staying at Ryan's Ocean View. It began with a warm welcome from Bill (the owner) and Ingrid (the caretaker). They both showed us around the house and gave us some recommendations about where to go shopping and to eat. Thank you both. The house is spacious and clean and the kitchen was well equipped. Since the house is situated on a hill and the deck wraps all the way around, it allows for fantastic views from both the front and back of the house. My husband and I loved just sitting on the back porch every afternoon with a cocktail and the beautiful Atlantic Ocean in our view. So relaxing!! Having the hot tub was also a plus for relaxing. We also loved the island. It is very remote with the most beautiful beach on the island in Gordon. We also appreciated the friendliness of the Long Islanders we would meet ever where we went. Make sure to stop by at Earnest's unforgettable bar called "Pit Bulls - The first and last drop" and Max's Conch Bar for a really good conch salad. We couldn't have picked a nicer place to stay and can’t wait to come again!

Time to relax
At first I thought it was a little strange. This rental has no clocks in it. No wall clock. Not even an alarm clock beside the bed. Even the clock on the microwave was set to 0:00. I wondered -- don't these people care what time it is? Well, I'm a little slow...it took me about a day and a half to figure it out. In this gorgeous house in this amazing place...whenever you are wondering what time it is the answer is: it's time to relax. :-) It was a great reminder to just let go of the hustle and bustle and truly savor every precious moment.
The most beautiful place we have ever rented. Everything was perfect. Bill and Ingrid were incredibly attentive to every question we had. I could go on and on and reiterate what has already been said in other reviews. Instead I will just say if you are looking for a comfortable, beautiful place to truly relax -- this is it.

Stunning house overlooking the Atlantic
We had a wonderful stay in Bill's house. The house is spacious, with a large living area downstairs and a huge master bedroom above. The furniture is elegant and in very good shape, the house has all amenities you would want. The kitchen is well equipped (apart from a dishwasher, which would be a good thing to have, given the warm climate). The house is sitting on a bluff overlooking the ocean, so there is almost always a breeze on one side of the terrace. The hot tub is beautiful! We especially appreciated the warm welcome by Bill and the regular contact with Ingrid, who is the caretaker of the house. If you want to get away from it all, Bill's house is the perfect place to be! Do explore Gordon's beach and do not forget to stop by at Earnest's unforgettable bar called "The first and last drop". Thank you all for a wonderful stay!

this beautiful house & private beach was A-mazing!
i cannot say enough about Ryan's Ocean View house. It was spacious, fully-loaded, so well designed and managed, we didn't want to leave! in our previous beach vacations, we were always in search of the better beach. the private beach here was not only beautiful with it's white sands, the beautiful color and moderate waves but, the seclusion made us completely happy to just stay put and enjoy it. to top it, there was a hot tub on the deck and nothing like sitting in a hot tub after the hot sun or enjoying the stars, it was an added extra. having the rental car be an option for our stay, was refreshing to just easily make it part of our vacation package.
our host became our friend, he was super attentive and took care of us, as if we were family. if you want an oasis to relax and to calm your life, this is it!

Relaxing at Ryan's
Ryan’s Oceanview is a real house, private, set above a small cluster of homes, four of which are occupied. It is well built and equipped, comfortably furnished, and the wind on the porch keeps the no see ums away. After a hard day of reading/writing/ thinking/eating/napping/talking/walking, it is soothing to sit in the hot tub and admire the views – the breaking waves, the sailboats, the fishing boats, the distant late afternoon rainbows, and the no people. The very walkable beach is a couple of minutes away. It’s an easy 20 minutes stroll to a fine swimming cove at the south end. After a while, our six weeks became organized around the tide table -- a nice rhythm to live by.
When you go to the shops and restaurants in Clarence Town (10 minutes), Petty’s, Mangrove Bush, Deadman’s Cay (25 minutes) and beyond, you will appreciate the warmth of the Long Islanders you will meet. This isn’t a resort so there will be occasional glitches (power, internet). Rest assured that Bill/Patrice/Paul/Ingrid/BTC/BEC are always available.
So relax and let the rhythm of island life seduce you. It did us.

Perfectly Appointed House
While this home was not directly on the beach (about 200 yards away with direct access) it was close to several beautiful beaches and protected natural pools. Facing the Atlantic, we always had a great breeze that kept the mosquitos and no-seeums away. The air conditioning was better than any house we have rented on an island before, it had an outside hot tub, and the kitchen was equipped with everything one could hope for. A rental vehicle, preferably one that sits high off the ground, is needed to explore the island and to access some isolated beaches on both the Atlantic and Caribbean sides.

THE BEST VIEWS ON LONG ISLAND
We enjoyed our stay, we enjoyed our friends and most of all we enjoyed Ryan`s house.
The location (central/southern part of this island) and layout of this house make this place a perfect retreat for family with children or 2 couples.
Very close to places serving exceptionally fresh and tasty island` food.
Just go there and enjoy this very unique island.

Lovely Beach House!
What a lovely beach house just a few steps away from the ocean!
The house was clean and tidy and furnished with everything you could possibly need. The wrap around deck affords you a beautiful ocean view and sun or shade depending on your preference.
A vehicle is required to get you to some absolutely spectacular sights and beaches most of which are relatively short distances away.
If you crave a comfortable house next to a beautiful beach with privacy you can't go wrong!
We'll definitely be back!

Hidden Gem with Great Ocean Views & Friendly Staff
My first impression was WOW!! The views are spectacular. The patio has outdoor seating so you can enjoy breakfast or dinner with an amazing oceanview as your backdrop. There's a jacuzzi and lounges on the patio as well. Truly, the home had all the amenities we needed and more. It's tucked away but close enough to the airport, restaurants and beautiful beaches. I can't forget to mention Ingrid, the caretaker, who greeted us, gave recommendations and made us feel at home during our stay. I would highly recommend Ryan's Ocean View to anyone who wants a spacious beach home with great views and warm hospitality.

Great house, great stay!
Our whole experience there was wonderful, except that our stay was too short! Ryan's Ocean View is a beautifully- decorated, immaculately-clean, comfortable house with all the amenities. The beds are very comfortable, with high-quality linens. It was such a nice place to come back to each evening after exploring the island. Ryan and Patrice were wonderful to deal with. Ingrid was away so we were met by Jeanette at the car rental (Unique Wheels), who brought us to the house and was a great resource for what to do on the island. We had a wonderful dinner at Rowdy Boys in the Winterhaven resort not far from the house and one of the best meals of our Bahama's trip. The best conch salad is at Max Conch Bar! We discovered Gordon's Beach and had it to ourselves all day. "THIS is paradise," my husband said when we drove up to it. We snorkeled most of the day there. Like another reviewer said, the stores are little markets but we were able to find all we needed for nice meals.
Long Island has a lot of charm and we have many quirky stories from our stay. One night we saw a black, wild pig running alongside the road, cute as can be. The next day we stopped to "talk" to a local goat, making goat sounds back and forth. The dogs there are as laid back as the people. We'd drive by them laying near the road, sunning themselves. Every day we wore bathing suits under our clothes and had our snorkel gear in the car and just drove the island, and stopped to snorkel and ooh and ahh over the beautiful beaches.
We had a great time on Long Island and staying at Ryan's Oceanview and would definitely return!
***Note: Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! The Bahamian sun is to be taken seriously, especially if you are fair-skinned like I am. Also, I did not get a single bug bite during our 8-day stay in the Bahamas. 2 weeks before the trip I started a B-Complex vitamin and a garlic supplement and also sprayed Vanilla Fantasies Body Spray (internet search said this works, so does Victoria's Secret Amber Romance) on each time we left the house. Locals use baby oil.

Terrific house on Long Island!
We had a blissful week at Ryan's Ocean View. Ingrid met us and took us to the house which sits on a bluff overlooking both the Caribbean and Atlantic ocean. The house was beautifully furnished and impeccably clean with a wide porch with comfortable outside furniture to enjoy the view and sun. Long Island experienced a horrible hurricane last October, but the island and people are recovering. The people were friendly and helpful and always made us feel welcome. We visited beaches that were stunningly gorgeous with white sand and crystal clear blue water. We visited Dean's Blue hole where National Geographic Magazine was filming for an upcoming issue, visited Santa Maria Resort and had grilled lobster and fresh conch salad, sitting under umbrellas with a gorgeous view of the ocean. This island is for those who like the quiet, natural beauty of the Bahamas with friendly people and not the crowds of larger, more populated islands.

Peaceful island home
We spent 2 weeks at the house. We read all the reviews about the house and the island. Both the house and island were what we were expecting. The house is on a small rise about 1 minutes walk to a pretty beach that is good for walking or playing but is to rough for swimming. The closet next house is on the lot next door but up at the beach, there are no houses on the other direction, so you have good privacy. The house was clean, had plenty of good quality sheets, pillows and towels.
We loved the island. It is very remote. There aren't any franchise stores. Only about half grocery stores/liquor stores/restaurants take credit cards. The "grocery stores" are more like a well stocked convenience stores at home.
We had Marcel, who owns the bar/take-with two cities south from the house, cook super for us each night and that was awesome, much easier than trying to prepare our own dinner.
Every day we had beaches to our self except when we to Cape Santa Maria which is awesome.

Returned from 9 day stay at Ryan's Ocean View. Fabulous weather, beautiful home on the water with spectacular views of the Atlantic on one side and gorgeous sunsets on the other. The house was more than we anticipated! The photos do not do it justice! Beautifully decorated, excellent location on the island. Close to activities and grocery/liquor stores. Enjoyed happy hours at the Flying Fish Marina, diving the Blue Hole. Spent a day in the northern part of the island, diving at Stella Maris, and visited the resort at Santa Maria (beautiful beach). Both worth the hour drive north. The Bahamians are very friendly and Long Island is very safe. It is more low key than its neighbors, Abaca, Exuma or Eleuthera. Wonderful place to relax and take in the beautiful scenery of the island! Excellent beaches on the island, particularly Lochibar with its own blue hole. Unspoiled and empty.

The house and Long Island are perfect. They both provided the relaxed, laid-back vibe we were looking for on this vacation. The house was very clean and had wonderful linens and amenities (washer/dryer, beach chairs, cooler and bottled water). The Wi-Fi worked great. It has a great location in being close to great beaches/restaurants yet secluded at the same time. We will definitely go back!

Long Island is a place to explore. Be ready to take the 'road less travelled' at times to find some of the amazing best kept secret beaches. Patrice, Ryan and Ingrid are fabulous hosts that will assist you in any way guiding you towards any particular experience or service you require. Eat at Outer Edge Marina for great food and amazing service and make a visit up to the Cape Santa Maria Resort for an afternoon, beautiful place. Long Island is a place we will definitely revisit.

We came to Ryan's ocean view with our 7 yr old daughter . As we arrived in front of house, we were stunned by the beauty of the home, the spectacular ocean view and ocean breeze. It is way more beautiful than the pictures on the website. Upon entering the home , our first impression was the interior design . So tastefull ! The bedding was total luxury and comfortable. We had everything we needed and more . Even board games for our little one, so many books to read too. A car rental is a must. We went around the island and discovered our 2 favorite beaches: Gordon's 30 min south of the house, and Cape Santa Maria, 1 1/2 hour drive up North , but so worthed than we went twice during our stay. Ingrid...you are the best ! Thankyou for always being there for our tiniest little needs ! Thankyou Ryan, Patrice for your kindness and making our stay a great one ! We recommend Ryan's Ocean View to everyone that is looking for a piece of paradise, some quiet time with the beauty of this beautiful island.

Our trip to Long Island was the best vacation my family has ever taken. And staying at Ryan's Ocean View was the best decision we could have made. The home is absolutely gorgeous and impeccably clean. Every morning we packed the cooler at the house and went exploring. We spent the evenings on the deck reading and watching boats go by in the distance. In the beginning I was concerned about staying on the less calm Atlantic side considering we have a young son. But the views, the ocean breeze, the sound of the waves, the lushness of the property surrounding the house and the colors of water made Ryan's Ocean Breeze perfect for us.
Favorite beaches-Gordon's and Ford's beach. The beach at the old salt mine in Hard Bargain was difficult to get to, but absolutely worth it.
Restaurants-We loved the food and the people at Winter Haven Inn-amazing conch and the best wings we've ever had. The atmosphere across the street at Outer Edge was nice, but the food was just ok and the service was painfully slow. Max's Conch Bar was our son's favorite. It was always lively and the food was great.
Thank you for opening up your home to us and thank you for all of your kindness along the way. We can't wait to get back to Long Island and Ryan's Ocean View.

A lovely house with plenty of space - inside and out. The kitchen is fine - hob and microwave plus BBQ outside, but no oven or grill. You'll definitely need a car as the house is pleasantly remote and quiet. You're not completely on your own though as there are a few houses around 300 or 400 yards away and down by the beach. Nearest restaurant is in Clarence Town (maybe 10 minutes by car) and the nearest reasonable food store and wine shop are about 20 minutes away in Hamiltons and Pettys. The beach is a few steps away and the sands are constantly changing. We loved Gordons Beach which is around 20 minutes by car down the Queens Highway.
The only drawback we discovered was the sand flies!! These little critters bite and they itch like hell for ages!! Three out of four people staying at the house were "attacked".....no idea why the fourth person was left alone! We found that around 5.00/5.30pm you had to cover up the arms and legs - spraying just didn't seem to stop them. Fine when you've worked that out!! You find them around a lot of the Caribbean but these are particularly determined little beasts.
Everyone is very friendly on the island and we thoroughly enjoyed our three weeks there. Totally relaxing.

Ryan's Ocean View is a well-maintained and beautifully decorated home with much attention to detail. It is the ideal getaway for peace and quiet with plenty of privacy. Internet access was good; lots of books with current titles; brilliant night skies great for stargazing; a cozy hottub; a well-equipped kitchen for preparing meals with freshly caught fish from the local docks; nearby beach for walking long distances and beachcombing. All you need are great companions!
While away from the home, we drove from one end of the island to the other and enjoyed incomparable bonefishing, snorkeling at Dean's Blue Hole where we saw schools of colorful fish, eating superb conch salad at Max's Conch Bar where we celebrated the birthday of one of our friends, great views from Rowdy Boys restaurant, white sands of gorgeous beaches including Morton's, and visiting with very friendly local residents. I only wish we could have stayed longer, and yes, I highly recommend Ryan's Oceanview. You just can't get any better!

We spent a week on Long Island and had the pleasure of staying at Ryan's Ocean View in Miley. The house is situated on top of a hill which allows fantastic views from both the front and back of the house. The views are even more beautiful than the pictures show!! Patrice made sure we had some basics in the house when we arrived since it was Sunday and the grocery stores are closed. The house is very clean and well equipped. The upstairs has a large master suite which was quite spacious. One of my favorite things was to enjoy a glass of wine with my husband while in the outdoor hot tub on the back porch overlooking the ocean. So relaxing!! The house is only about 20 minutes from one the most beautiful beaches on the island in Gordon. Don't miss out on seeing Dean's Blue Hole and stopping at the end of the road to Compose Rose where there are pools formed by the rocks in the ocean. We have traveled a lot to many of the islands in the Bahamas...the people of Long Island are some of the most friendliest people I have ever met and I love that the island isn't spoiled by too much commercialism...it truly has an island feel. Thanks Patrice for sharing your slice of Paradise with us...we couldn't have picked a nicer place to stay. We hope to return soon!

Thank you a lot for one of our best Easter holidays. Our family stayed 2 weeks with 2 kids of 10 years at this silent and beautiful beach place. As we arrived Ingrid picked us up with the girl from the car rental at the airport and guided us to the house - passing a supermarket. The house is well equiped with very nice interior - execpt a dishwasher wich is missing. As we arrived we had no outside table - but Ingrid came back within one hour with a helpful new garden table. We had a lot of outdoor dinners with a barbecue - caught at the beach! We took the table around the house terraces and we found every day a place without wind. Ingrid gave us some information what is necessary to see at this caribean island like: Deans blue hole for snorkling, the rock-pools at compass rose or the wonderful beach at Galloway or Gordons at the caribean side (take the left road with the blue barrel at the corner on the way to Clarence Town - look for the writing galloway). During our stay we were mostly alone at the awsome beaches. From the house you have to walk only 1 minute to the beach - the best place for swimming during all weather conditions is the beach on the right side in 10 Minutes walking distance with shallow turquise water. Every late afternoon we did bottom fishing directly in front of our house (start 2 hours before sunset, best with coming flood, cast out on the sandy parts close to the rocks, put on a 100-150 grams weight and a 1/0 hook with half a squid - which you can get frozen in all supermarkets - and wait 10 Minutes) We caught a lot of Snapper, Jackfish and Triggerfish for the barbecue. If you like to go bonefishing - ask Ingrid for a trip with Elvis - he is the best guide - you will catch your bone. Going for Deep Sea fishing was quite too expensive (600 for a simple boat up to 1200 US professional boat for a one Day charter). The best restaurant in closer distance ist Rowdys bar and grill - very good food, but not really cosy or nice. If you look for a caribean beach bar, waterfront location - grill or someting like that - it will be hard to find for you on long island. If you look for entertainment and show - we can remommend you to go to to the Marina in late afternoon to see the yacht-guys feeding the 8 feet lemon sharks close to their boat - ther is no other entertainment. If you look for a silent nature experience with the ocean next to you Ryans Ocean View is the perfect place to go. We would recommend this house for you. Family Lehmbecker

My husband and I have stayed at Ryan's Oceanview twice in the past and decided to plan a trip with my sister and her two teenagers (14 & 18) to visit once again. I cannot begin to empasize how pleasant it is to work with Patrice and Bill; they are extremely accommodating to our every need. They offered and provided a Wii for the kids (they were too distracted to use it) and kept contact with us prior to and during the trip to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our stay. Ingrid greeted us at the airport and was kind enough to shop for provisions for us since it was Sunday and the markets were closed. The fridge was stocked with everything we had asked for. Ingrid also checked in on us and procurred 3 lobster tails for us to enjoy as well. Ryan's Oceanview is one of the most beautiful and well-kept rental homes we have ever stayed in; no detail has been spared and the home comes with every ammenity you could need while being away from home. We tend to cook our dinners at home rather than go out every night and the kitchen is very well-stocked with everything you could possibly need. The beds are comfortable and the AC blows cool when you need it.
We enjoyed dinner at Rowdy Boys and the small waterfront restaurant at Flying Fish Marina (very inexpensive and good food). We, of course, had to make a trek to Max's Conch Bar for the delicious conch salad. Everything we've ever tried on their menu is very good!
We soaked up some sun at the beaches at Galloway, Lowe's Beach and Lochabar. We even swam with 2 eagle rays at Lochabar and collected so many sand dollars I've lost count! The color of the water at these beaches is indescribable and committed to my memory to visit mentally on cloudy days.
My sister, who is often hard to please, raved about the home and said she'd love to come back again. My husband and I will definitely be back again in the (hopefully near) future! Thank you Patrice, Bill, Ryan and Ingrid for another wonderful vacation!
