This custom home was designed and built for the actor Shephard Houghton and his wife in 1984. They would spend four or five months here each summer. In Shep's memoirs he writes "It's a beautiful home, with a view of sea and forest and [the public beaches in the Hoodsport area offer] lots of oysters, clams, shrimp, and salmon". Shep appeared in silent films as a youngster, and went on to appear in such films as "Gone with the Wind", "Showboat", "Red Badge of Courage", "Hello Dolly", "Hindenburg", and TV's "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", "Kojac", and "Star Trek", among others, before retiring in 1976. He was well-liked for his personality and work ethic and befriended quite a few Hollywood legends along the way, along with the close friendships he enjoyed in Hoodsport. Framed posters of some of his work are hanging in the game house.

We had a great time during our stay. House was just as described and plenty of room for 2 families consisting of 2 adults and 3 teens.

This property is excellent for a family with older children. Our teens sons loved the game room and hot tub. It was comfortable and clean. Excellent communication from the property managers. It is little loud right of a main highway and a little bright in the bedrooms; otherwise, a five-star experience.

We had a family gathering for our uncle’s 80th birthday. A low-key affair but we wanted to be under one roof for the weekend. This place was just what we needed. Plenty of room for us and a terrific game room that added to the experience.
The host was responsive and made sure our stay was pleasant. We’re already talking about a return to Hoodsport.

The house was little dated but was in a great location from town and the national park. The view of the water at night was beautiful and was worth staying up. Sandra was a great host who was very responsive to any questions or concerns.

Our family loved staying here. The teens spent all their time in the game room, while the adults enjoyed evenings on the deck overlooking the water. The kitchen was huge and well stocked, which was greatly appreciated. Finally a house the let all eight of us eat at the same table. Lots of towels in the bathrooms and comfortable beds.

This house was amazing from start to finish. The location was great, overlooking the water with amazing views. We loved the unique layout of the house with plenty of room for everyone. The kitchen and dining room were perfect for spending time together and the Hot Tub was amazing! We went on walks, did a hike, visited the cute little town and had the best coffee at the coffee shop! Overall just a great stay!!

Would love to come back when it's warmer next time.

A perfect setting! With fantastic views throughout, and generous space, this is a great retreat to relax with friends or family. The large well equipped kitchen offered a perfect place to visit while preparing meals to enjoy either in the dining area or on the spacious adjacent outside deck. The games room was an absolute bonus!

The views and the game room are spectacular! My niece & nephews made good use of the hottub. The large dining table provided ample space for the whole family to gather for meals. The kitchen had plenty of cooking supplies and counterspace for preparing meals. Visitors should be aware that the large bunkroom was not accessible to all in our party due to the narrow, corkscrew staircase (4 beds are located in this room). Lastly, the yard is not secure and the home is situated close to a highway; dogs should be supervised at all times while outside.
We had a good stay overall, with an easy check-in and check out!!

Wonderful Spot!
We had a group of friends/coworkers and dogs and it was the perfect stay!! Sandra's house has a lot of space with a beautiful view and having a grill and hot tub was a huge plus. We enjoyed playing pool and ping pong in the game room too! We'd definitely stay here again.

A relaxing stay with gorgeous views
The pictures online do not do this place justice. So much thought went into the landscaping framing the views from ever angle, my favorite was madrona farming the water while relaxing in the hot tub. Great kitchen table to keep a puzzle to work while you relax. Our trip was early spring so the weather wasnt the greatest but it didn't matter because so many windows gave you the feel of being at the water the whole time. My three kiddos loved the game room and spent most of our stay out there and off electronics which is a win for this mama!

Great Property and Host
We enjoyed our stay very much. The host worked with us on a booking issue we had (which was my fault) and made it OK, so we were very relieved about that. The hot tub and the game room were really a nice add. 5* stay!

Such a fun and quirky house! The views are amazing and the house was well organized and stocked. The game room was so fun!

Exceptional
Sandra was communicative and helpful throughout the weekend. Plenty of towels, cleaning supplies and cooking items are provided.
The topmost floor can be a bit difficult to get to because of the spiral staircase, but we managed. The basement floor also seemed very secluded from the rest of the house. The game room was great though and the hot tub is the nicest one I've seen at a rental property.

Great views and amenities!
We enjoyed spending our New Years holiday at this lovely home, but the loss of power, water, and the snow plow blocking our cars in was a little challenging to deal with at the end of our trip. You just never know about that western Washington winter weather.

Lovely Hoodsport getaway
The Deckhouse was absolutely stunning, large enough for the whole extended family to sleep comfortably and fully stocked with everything you need to have a great vacation. The balconies were such a treat, waking up on the hood canal to see Orcas was one of our highlights. Really close to the Olympic wilderness which is perfect if you’d like to explore the natural beauty Washington us to offer. We’d absolutely book this stay again, thank you!

Snow trip
Great house. About a foot of snow when we arrived and about 18” when we left. The hot tub was good to us after trying to shovel paths to cars and tub. Really enjoyed the lay out, game room and views!

A Christmas to remember
Property is quirky, comfortable, well supplied and provides everything for a memorable family vacation. Plenty of towels, cook/dinner ware, beds were warm and cozy. We loved watching the sunrise over the water from bed. It snowed quite a bit while we were there it was so beautiful. The hot tub and game room kept everyone young and old entertained and happy during our stay. Would love to stay again. The host anticupated our every question / want so that our stay felt very homey and comfortable. We stayed the week of Christmas and the house was nicely decorated for the holidays even! Such a nice touch.
Thank you!

Beautiful home overlooking the canal
We loved our stay here! The water views were great and we loved the decks. The hot tub was awesome, super relaxing. We enjoyed using the game room; it had lots of different options. The only bummer was we wanted to grill but the propane tanks were out. We were able to drive down the road to the local gas station/grocery store and pay to exchange one from the home. Overall, I would definitely recommend this stay!

House layout is unique and beautiful, yard well kept with plenty plants to admire. (Especially enjoyed the grapes, sweet touch to the porch)
Beds are comfortable, space was clean, made use of the game room and so appreciated the wifi and tv options. Would recommend to anyone and everyone!!!!!!!!!!

Relaxing Vacation
As stated in the description, this house/property has some unique characteristics, but suited our wishes wonderfully. The game room was amazing for our teens. The view is lovely. I think the home could use a bit of updating although it is spacious. There is not good access to the waters edge, but we enjoyed Lake Cushman which is near. We loved being in the Hoodsport area. It was a fun trip!
