About this house rental
Carver Cottage is only 20 ft from the water's edge and provides the infinity pool effect when sitting in the living room. You feel like you're surrounded by water - it's so close. The sounds of water splashing on the shoreline below lull you to sleep at night and during the day if you so please. Its proximity to the water with its spectacular views makes this property extra special.
The sun-filled open floor plan with lake and mountain views is hard to beat. The main living space has a heat pump for AC cooling in the warm months and taking the chill off in the fall. A full sectional couch plus additional seating are more than enough room for everyone to have a cozy spot to read or watch their favorite shows on the full size TV.
Please note, the house now has a 15 foot screened bi-fold door overlooking the lake. This allows unobstructed view from the dusks at dawn to the gorgeous western sunsets. More photos coming soon!
Dining is available at the island, the dining table or outside on the patio.
The house has two king bedrooms plus a daybed in the main living space. All linens, towels and pillows are included for your convenience.
Sandy bottom beach is also a rare find in the Champlain Islands. Shared swim raft for lounging with mooring for boats. Paddleboard and kayak included. Pets are welcome although we ask that they are always supervised and not left home alone for long stretches.
This fully insulated year round cottage is so beautiful any time of year, you'll want to move to this quiet little oasis year round! Enjoy evening fires on the patio above the waters edge. Breakfast off the living room on the attached patio will be your dining room for the week if the weather cooperates. I can't say enough about the comfort of this house with its breathtaking western Adirondack views.

We loved our stay at this charming home! The home was well-stocked with essentials and we had a very comfortable stay. The view of the lake cannot be beat, and we spent every night out on the patio with the fire pit. The hosts are easy to reach and helpful. We highly recommend this home.

Lovely house on the shores of Lake Champlain.
Spacious, comfortable, elegant, with all the amenities we needed to enjoy our vacation.
We were able to kayak and paddle board from the property’s own landing. There’s an outdoor shower for convenience.
Stunning sunsets, quiet time by the fire pit at night, napping in the hammock.
Burlington downtown and Ethan Allen’s homestead are good places to visit.
Shelburne Museum is less than an our away, and definitely worth a visit.
Montreal is about 1.5 hours away, easy, pleasant day trip.
Thank you Deb and Andrew for hosting us!

Magical
We had a most lovely time at this cottage. Having never been to the Champlain Islands, the cottage provided a perfect location for enjoying and exploring the area. We saw amazing sunsets, had such fun swimming out front of the cottage, taking bike adventures to nearby farms and just relishing the week we spent there. We highly recommend staying here!

A very nice open floor plan with lots of windows facing the lake. The water is very clear here with a sandy bottom, something most frontage does not have.

We have so many wonderful things to say about Deb and Andrew's lake-front getaway. My parents were in town visiting Vermont for the first time and this location showcased everything springtime has to offer: farm stands, water sports, island historical sites, great local food. Lake breezes kept the rooms cool and we loved the outdoor space for spending time with friends and family. We also appreciated that the home is pet-friendly (& still extremely clean)! Plenty of supplies to last the week including filtered water. The hammock, fire pit, and outdoor shower were extra special touches.
The bay is quite shallow for most boats, so renters should know that the mooring will be far from the beach. We decided not to bring our fishing boat up. Perfect for SUP and kayak. Would recommend to friends or stay again anytime!

Perfect Getaway
This place was such a perfect location for a vacation with the beautiful lake right outside your door and spectacular sunsets every evening. Our two labs just loved the water and relaxing on the patio or living room floor watching the lake activity as much as we did. The house was very comfortable with everything you need. There is so much to do in the area. The bike path crossing the lake from South Hero down to Burlington and back was a wonderful experience. All the local folks were very friendly and helpful. Deb and Andy were very responsive to our questions and delivered more bottled water when we needed it. Looking forward to returning next year and extending our stay to two weeks. Thanks Deb and Andy for sharing your beautiful place!

Extraordinary wheelchair-accessible lakefront getaway
I cannot say enough good things about this property, or the owners. Very clean and tidy on arrival. Stocked with all the basic necessities and more: all the kitchenware you could need, plenty of linens and towels, awesome gas grill...I could go on and on. Prime location, with tons of lakefront and an impressive view. I also use a large power wheelchair, and this house was SO much more accessible than I ever would’ve thought possible for a random rental. Beautiful ramp to the front door, wide open floor plan, one level. Interior doorways are a tad narrow, but I could still squeeze through. And the lakeside patio is 100% accessible by going around the house.
Hosts/owners are terrific people. Extremely genuine, accommodating and easy to reach.
Rent this property!

the best sunsets on the lake! Although there is a huge awning, still could not escape the heat of afternoon sun! Fans were helpful but air conditioning would have been great. Also for a property that says handicap accessible, there is no railing on the four or five stairs going down to the outside seating. Making it hard for elderly. The stairs going to beach, were also too hard for an elderly or handicap person to use. Also would have liked slip proof anything in tub. Very slippery for elderly.

Absolutely Perfect!
This place is absolutely perfect and we'll definitely be back! Because of the pandemic, we decided to explore our own state and visit the Lake Champlain Islands. What a great experience that was! The house itself is simple with an open concept with a big living room area. This was great for bringing the family together, especially with teenagers. It's right on the water with easy access to the beach - just a few steps down some stairs. Because of that our kids entertained themselves for hours swimming, fishing, kayaking, paddle-boarding (which they have there), and we were often just relaxing and reading. The beach area is excellent - soft sandy beach, shallow for quite a ways so we were able to put beach chairs right in the water. The house faces West, so the sunsets were gorgeous! They even have an awning to give some shade in the afternoon. The owners were super responsive, very friendly and accommodating. When we arrived, we didn't see the lounge chairs, so shortly after asking about it, they offered to bring some and showed up with 6! We're trying to think of any negative, which is really hard. I suppose if there was anything (which was really not a big deal) it's that the lobster pot was a little small, and there wasn't a blender. But those are minor details, in our opinion, and I know if we needed it that bad and had asked the owners they would've brought us both. Otherwise, it was just perfect. The house had everything we needed. We just REALLY loved it and highly recommend it.

Great house with a great view
We really enjoyed our week away in this house. The view was amazing and everything was exactly as the listing described. Kitchen was stocked well with everything we needed and there were plenty of towels available to us. Not only were the sunsets beautiful I even got to enjoy a full moon reflecting off the lake on our last night there. Andrew and Deb were great to work with and answered any questions I had quickly. Thank you for a wonderful vacation week!

Perfect, Peaceful House on the Water
My wife an I recently stayed here and it was a perfect week. We have stayed in a few different rentals like this the past few years... this was the best by far. First, what is supplied to guests was more than adequate. Not only did they have anything you could need in the kitchen, it was all good quality and clean (utensils, appliances, etc.) We tend to over-pack things that we need to cook, but there is no need here. The seating was comfortable and clean inside. The king size bed was not uncomfortable - not the best, but not too bad. The bathroom was a nice size and clean.
The outside is awesome. There are 3 other houses that you can see from the property, but they are far enough away that it feels very private. The backyard sits right on the water, the views are amazing, We saw some of the most beautiful sunsets we've ever seen. It gets full sun after about 11:00 AM. But there is a retractable awning to provide some shade (this was an unexpected bonus surprise). Even with the awning fully retracted, you'll get full sun again around 4 PM. We like sitting in the sun, and both commented to each other that this was the first house we've rented that might actually get too much sun. We would have to go inside to take a break from the sun on the clearer days. The only negative thing for our stay was that the steps from the backyard that go directly into the water had not been installed yet for the year, so we had to walk down to the neighbors yard to get in the water to swim and kayak. This wasn't a huge deal, but would have been nice to walk right into the lake from our own property. The lake is clean and inviting. If you do swim, the first few feet are rocky, so bring some lake shoes with you.
The owners were very nice. There was a mix up with the company that delivers fresh drinking water, but the owners were very responsive in getting it resolved as quickly as possible. I saw other people complain about a sulfur smell from the well water in the house... I can say I didn't notice at all.
The lake is a very quiet lake. There is activity, but it's not noisy at all. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to unwind and relax on a beautiful lake. We have never wanted to go back to a place we've vacationed at before, but definitely want to come back here again. Our two labs loved it too! Thanks for a great week!

South Hero stay
This was a clean, comfortable home, right on the water.
Privacy and views are wonderful, Owners very pleasant as well.
Plenty of good quiet food and hiking locally,
And not far from the city or mountains.
Would love to come back.

Family reunion
We rented 2 side-by-side cottages right on Lake Champlain for a family reunion. The 16 of us had a fantastic time despite unusually hot weather for end of August. There were fans in every room plus breezes from the lake. Kitchens were super well equipped. Cottages were larger than they looked on line. Beds were comfortable. The sunsets were memorable!

Family Friendly Lake Front Property
The house and property was great. People and dog friendly. The only issue is the sulfur smell in water . I know they are working on this, The house is well stocked with everything needed and the owners are friendly and welcoming.

peaceful place
Great house, plenty of room for 4 people and a dog with amazing views. Having an awning was great when sitting out in back and enjoying the views of the lake and the mountains. Great location on the bay with knee deep water and no waves/current. We visited plenty of local farms with blueberries ( they were incredible), apples, wine, eggs, etc. The only drawback is there is no air conditioner. There was one window air conditioner that was able to cool only the immediate area around it. There were a number of days that it was very humid and an air conditioner would have been very nice.

Great cottage on the lake with a view!
My family and I love it in the Carver Cottage. Perfect layout and right on the water. The cottage is on a beautiful, protected bay were you and your family can relax, play in the water, fish, or just relax. There is a stand up paddle board, a kayak and neat wooden canoe availbe to play with in the lake and my family has a great time paddling around. The scenery is great with the back of the house literally on the edge of the lake. You look out across the lake and get to see awesome sunsets over the Adirondack mountains every night. After sunset, you can lay down to the sound of the lake lapping the shoreline as the lake breeze cools off the cottage. It’s the perfect little cottage that sets my mind at ease the second I arrive. The “town” of South Hero is also a wonderful place with awesome scenery, great local vibe, and just enough local shops to keep you from venturing out too far. This was our second year at Carver Cottage and we plan to come back as often as we can!

Quiet and Relaxing
We really enjoyed our stay here. The space was much more spacious than what you could see on the pictures. The beds were comfortable and so was the huge couch in the living room! The sunsets were spectacular and it was nice to be able to sit out and enjoy the fire pit. The kitchen was fully stocked and the home felt clean.
We did run into an ant issue, but the home owners were very responsive when I emailed and had someone come out to spray the next day. Also, the water is from a well and there was a sulfur smell, but it wasn't that bad in this house.
Overall, we would absolutely come back and stay. We rented the other house also and it made for a nice extra space between both properties. The lake, the fire, the area was just amazing.

Great property in a great location
Our trip was in the fall, so we did not utilize the lake, but this is a nice property to stay with beautiful view. Everything is comfortable and convenient and quiet. There are nice places to visit nearby, farms and orchards, and the property is very convenient to Burlington.
We really enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful family getaway!
Great week just feet from the lake....perfect location for our grandkids , shallow, sandy cove , beautiful sunset views of the Adirondacks! Everything we needed was provided & house feels much bigger than it looks online. Quiet, private location but close to all the best things the Islands have to offer...cider donuts, maple creamees, farmstands, beautiful working farms, winery, that is if you can pull yourself away from the lakefront!!!! Our kids & family could come and go easily from their homes in nearby Burlington area. A wonderful week in a magical spot..... we'll be back!

Incredible wonderful marvellous view of the lake
The listing was accurate in describing the property. The property was well maintained and the hosts were excellent in providing a couple of missing items and general helpfulness. The location puts you right in nature. The sun sets opposite the living room window over Lake Champlain. I would recommend this property but also mention that being on the water it can get very very windy. It effected my sleeping but not my wife. Additionally there is a slight sulpher smell from the bath water. Didn't concern me but did stop my wife from washing her hair. It's best to plan on eating in at least half the time you stay. The best local restaurant, 'the blue paddle' had varying standards of service when we went there. You can always drive into Burlington (25 mins + parking time). That has a great selection of restaurants but after a day touring you may not want to bother. We love nature and peace and quiet - so for us the view was most important and made our stay enjoyable.

Great lake house!
We loved the house! The bay was perfect. Our kids initially said they would not swim in the lake (city folk….) but they loved it. The SUP and kayak were awesome and now my kids love to kayak, something I have been trying to get them to do for a few years but have always got the ‘NO’ from them.
The windows in the house gave a great view of the lake everyday. I have to say that the house is quite larger than it looks in the pictures. The main room (living room/ dinning room/ kitchen) is very big.
I also caught my personal best smallmouth right out back and then topped it with another personal best smallmouth LOL!
Our dogs loved the bay as well- we all had a blast!
The Blue Paddle is a must stop for Dinner. If you like Salmon- GET IT! It's the best I have ever had!
Another pleasant surprise was that even though it was summer vacation, It was very peaceful. No traffic, no crowds of people, just piece and quiet!

A great place to relax!
We had a wonderful week long stay. House has open concept and was clean and inviting. Beds were comfortable and had plenty of towels. We made our meals (big breakfasts and barbecues) and the kitchen was well stocked with plenty of dishes and cookware. The beach/ is rocky so beach shoes are a good choice. We enjoyed the fire pit after many gorgeous sunsets! (we had the best weather for end of May). The location was perfect for us as West Shore Road is great to run and walk and with long driveway it felt private. Owners were accessible and very nice to speak to. They left great instructions about the house. I am keeping these owners (Andrew and Deb)in mind for another rental occasion for when my youngest daughter graduates from UVM!
