My family has been renting lake houses for 10 years and have never written a negative review We know things are not perfect we are always ready to make some concessions but this time there were just too many Upon arriving at the house there were 100 geese on the back lawn and lots of goose poop making the lawn unusable Spent the next hour picking it up so we could walk across the lawn without stepping in poop The beach area covered in weeds trash and about 1 foot of lake weeds along the shoreline that smelled horrible We spent more time clearing a path so we could access the water with out stepping in the disgusting weeds Messages with the host asked about swimming, and she responded that the entry was sandy and gradual but did not tell us that there was 3 ft high weeds everywhere in the water Water in front of house is not swimmable While I understand the host does not have control over the lake would have been helpful and honest to let us know about the condition of the lake We used rafts we brought floating far out in the water to be able to swim The grill was filthy with dirty grill utensils Grill was heating realized the grease tray was so filled it was on fire We had to shut the grill down to clean it The deck on the house was nice but the bushes around the deck were overgrown Next came the flies outdoors and indoors Making sitting outside unbearable Positives host was quick to respond The house itself was clean The kitchen was stocked and plenty of towels

The location/setting is truly spectacular...a long lawn stretching to wide lake views, gorgeous shade trees, a ring of aiderondack chairs around a fire pit, a generous deck with ample seating. The cottage interior is open concept with two distinct sleeping wings: king and two double rooms with shared bath up front and a twin room with bath and it's own foyer and separate entrance in back. To say that Heroes Hideaway is well equipped is an understatement. Whether you are traveling with young kids or like us, a group of women friends on a writing retreat, it's stocked there. The decor is rustic/lake themed. Think wood paneling, very casual, dated, but in a good way--approachable and easy. It's a short walk to Wally's coffee shop/cafe (albeit on a busy road). Perhaps our favorite thing about it was the privacy. It's at the end of a small lane, buffered by a huge hedge, so quiet and tucked away, yet totally accessible to South Hero.

My family had a really fun mini vacation here. The house and yard were exactly as I expected and the large grassy field was perfect for one of my sons who brought his soccer goal. We all enjoyed the beautiful views and the house was well equipped and comfortable. The owner was very responsive when I had trouble figuring out the keyless entry. I had been hoping for a situation where we could jump off the dock right into the lake. This is way beyond the owner's control, but the water level was low and there was a ton of alge in the water. In order to swim we had to paddle or canoe out quite a bit to get past the algae. I probably should have guessed this could be the case because it is in the bay and not on the main lake, but I wished the property description had given some clues about this. Given it is early in the season and the water is still so cold, I was surprised there was already a healthy amount of algae. I didn't specifically ask about the water level or algae so lesson learned for me! We had a great time once we were out in the water and the kids loved the lily pad. The outside seating areas made the most of the lake views and there is a decent amount of shade in the yard which was so nice on the very sunny days.

As nice as this looks online it’s even nicer in person. The host was very nice. The property is private beautiful Lakeview, beautiful fire pit with wood to burn in the house was certainly big enough.

Family from Oregon and Kentucky came together for a week’s tour of northern New England. This location was the highlight of the trip. The house was roomy, cozy, and had wonderful views/access to the water. Our group spent a peaceful 3 nights here and wished we could have stayed longer.

This place has everything you need. There were a lot of items I brought from home that were not necessary because these owners provide basically everything. The place was tidy (not immaculate), definitely a more rustic/cabin vibe a few worn items. The beds were comfortable, helpful notes throughout the house. Lake views, beautiful. Very quiet and peaceful (~30 min drive from waterfront/downtown Burlington). We loved picking up the bike path at the southern tip of the island and taking the bike ferry across the causeway ‘cut’, then rode all the way into town. Lastly owners were very responsive, I had 2 inquiries while I stayed and response/resolution was timely.
One drawback- no AC. There are ceiling fans in all rooms and owners had box/oscillating fans at the ready. Still a bit noisy and uncomfortable on super hot/humid days.

We loved every minute of our stay. The house has everything you could possibly need. Many different areas to relax inside and out. The deck is huge with a large couch and table. There is also a seating area by the water. We docked our boat and the bay is perfect for tubing and fishing. Quiet neighborhood. We also brought our two dogs who loved the green grass. Wonderful place, highly recommend!

In general, we had a great stay on South Hero. It was our first time visiting the area and
the house was very nice with a beautiful view, large private yard with easy access to Lake Champlain. We appreciated the ease in contacting the owner- when needed, and the accommodations provided for kids. Bonus points that dogs are allowed.
However, we are providing a four star rating, as opposed to five star, due to a few things. Initially, it was not stated in the property description that the water is lake water and visitors need to provide their own drinking water (this information was provided to us in an email days prior to our visit- the owners were kind enough to leave us a large pack of water after we contacted them). Secondly, the neighboring house has two pitbull dogs, and while their yard is fenced in, their dogs escaped the yard and ran into the property and onto the porch where we were relaxing with our dogs.( It was a very stressful situation) and lastly, the home does have dehumidifiers running constantly, which unfortunately produce heat in the house. There is no air conditioning so I can imagine in the dead of summer that it would be quite uncomfortable (fans are provided throughout).
Overall, it was a really nice vacation and we would happily stay again.

I can’t say enough good things about this property and our stay. We stayed for my daughter’s UVM graduation. The house had everything we needed for cooking meals and the beds were comfortable. The view was spectacular and peaceful. There are plenty of lawn games and we roasted s’mores at the firepit. We had a couple of guests over and everyone was blown away and said they would want to rent it themselves. We will definitely be back!

We absolutely loved our stay at this incredibly serene and peaceful home. It has everything you would ever want or need and more. Attention to every detail was considered. Beds are super comfortable and waking up to that view is heaven!
Working with Lindsay was a dream as she was quick to reply and graciously flexible in working with us. We will be back!
