It was great to stay in a little historic home with lots of character with my big family in the heart of the city. Has all the basic things you need in a home away from home. Close to many amenities and attractions. We felt comfortable and safe in the neighborhood.

Great, clean house with room for all 8 of us and close walk to the harbour and restaurants. Should maybe update the property photos to reflect the changes.

Great house for a group
We had a fantastic week in Halifax at the green house. Perfect for a large group. Only inconvenience was that the kitchen was very small to have all 10 of us eating at the same time. All questions were answered reasonably promptly. Thanks for a great week!

Great location!!
Great house for a big family or families travelling together. All the amenities you could need and walking distance to downtown. Right next the Commons (with parks, sports fields, tennis, green space )and the Halifax Citadel.
Great location with all of the comforts of home.

We had a lovely stay.
There was a lovely little back yard to relax and enjoy morning coffee/tea while watching the birds. Only negative was noise at front of home at night. Could have been alleviated if air conditioned and windows closed. Temperature was beautiful though so not needed with open windows. Would definitely return.

Halifax get away
This was exactly what three couple needed for ten days in Halifax. The house was easy to find, everyone had lots of space and nice walking distance to down town and arena.
You are renting a place that is over 100 years old and starting to show in some areas still clean and safe. But the price and location make up for this. Thanks for ten wonderful days.

Fabulous Family Gathering in Downtown Halifx
This was a wonderful space to spend time with family and friends. Very spacious and bright. My mother was with us and she has mobility challenges. This house had downstairs bedroom and bathroom facilities!!Access to an outdoor space with furniture was bonus. We could walk to coffee shops wonderful bakeries and restaurants. Our dog had room to run and was in an enclosed safe place. Teens could venture across the street to a open park with skate board park included. The rooms were clean and fresh. I plan to return for future visits. Other than no martini glasses all was worth it:)

Great Downtown Halifax location!
great location in downtown Halifax for a short work trip. The house was very clean and had everything I needed. Used the large main floor bedroom which was great. I was able to squeeze in a couple skates at the Oval across the street where they offer free equipment. John and Jennifer were helpful with dining and entertainment ideas. Thanks,
Chad

Great weekend stay
Awesome central location steps to everything in central Halifax. Beautiful heritage home with very cool decorations. The place was spotless and the beds were great. Perfect for four couples. Yard was great but a little cold in January. Skating at the Oval across the street was an added bonus. We will be back. Thanks to John for all the advice.

Perfect location but needs love
The location and size met our family’s needs for a Christmas reunion. Everything we wanted to do was within walking distance. The well equipped kitchen made meal prep easier.
For a house this age they’ve included lots of blankets and space heaters to mitigate cold drafts. Our concerns about a toilet that was difficult to flush never did get addressed. Two of the beds need replacing so occupants don’t roll to the middle. Little details like shoes found under the bed leave impression that the house isn’t thoroughly cleaned after previous guests’ departure. As well, a makeshift curtain rod in front bedroom isn’t doing the job. A swithchplate in another bedroom was laying on the floor needing a screw. The cupboards in the kitchen have all sorts of objects filling up space including the instructions for the house that we only found on last day. A little organization of these cupboards would make things easier to find and guests’ could maintain that order. Over our week here we did organise utensil drawer which just has too many things in it for what is needed. These are simple and quick fixes to maintain but because they weren’t done upon our arrival they reflect the rating on the house.

Fab house for large group
Great stay in Halifax for my sisters birthday. It was a girls weekend and the house was amazing to accommodate all 10 of us. Had a few questions and John and Jennifer were great at answering our emails. The house is a great location close to everything or a short cab ride. Well equipped as we did cook in on 2 nights. Would definitely recommend this house to you and your family.
Cheers

Lovely, centrally located and plenty of room
Close to downtown, we were able to walk everywhere and did. The house itself is completely apportioned, with plenty of space for six people (each needing a place to sleep) with plenty of bedding and kitchenware.
The house itself was lovely and we had as much fun in it as we did in the pubs and restaurants in Halifax. Very close to the Citadel and we walked over to observe the Remembrance Day ceremonies.
This was the perfect place for a bunch of friends' first visit to Halifax, thank you very much to the hosts!

Great house, Great location, Great City
We had an amazing stay at John’s place. The house was a 10 minute walk from everything Halifax has to offer. The house is perfect for large groups and was equipped with everything you could ever need. Next time I’m in Halifax, I wouldn’t think twice about staying here!!!

Perfect home for a little family get together
We stayed in the green house in July and it was the perfect size/location for us. Six adults and four kids aged 3-7.
We enjoyed citadel park and went to the harbour most days. There’s a cute little ice cream shop around the corner too! We loved being walking distance to everything!
We also enjoyed that we could sit around the dining room comfortably once the kids were in bed for game night! So fantastic. John was helpful and responsive (not that we needed much, the home is loaded!).
Will stay here again in a heartbeat the next time we are in town.

beauty historic home in the heart of Halifax
This house is right beside the Halifax Common and Citadel, and steps to downtown. This made for easy access to a lot of shops, restuarants, and pubs. We were able to walk everywhere as the weather was quite mild. The back yard looks newly redone and even though it was late winter we spent some time out back relaxing. The inside comfortably slept 8 of us and we appeciated the size and cleanliness of the house. We will stay again. SDG

Great Place !
This was a great place to stay at. Plenty of room and the downstairs bedroom and bathroom were great for my mom as the stairs would have been difficult for her.
This place is just a few minutes away from everything and has a dedicated parking in the back. Would stay here again if my travels ever took me back to Halifax.

The green house was a great place for us to stay - lots of room for 6 adults and within walking distance of downtown and the harbour front. The house is very rustic and lots of character, but could do with a couple of repairs. We tried to use the deck, but it was falling apart. We were advised that it was being replaced in the coming week, but unfortunately not in time for our visit. We experienced a glitch when we arrived and could not gain access to the home. The owner was able to rectify within about an hour, but we sat outside waiting on the street. We were advised that outdated access information was provided to us. Overall a good visit with a few glitches, but we enjoyed our stay.

My mother and 3 sisters all agreed that this was the prefect place to stay for the 5 of us. We all had our own bed and could relax in the kitchen with our morning coffee and in the living room at the end of the day. The location was great - the house is within walking distance of downtown - 10 minute tops. The house was exactly as described. It made for a wonderful family vacation.

Enjoyed the "greenhouse" immensely, location within walking distance of everything on the Halifax waterfront and downtown area is fantastic (and the walk uphill to get home each night helped burn off a few the extra calories we took on with food and drink). Lot's of room for six of us. Made for a very economical family vacation.

My family and I stayed at this house for a week in May 2016. Great location, we walked almost everywhere. Very spacious and comfortable home. If you're planning to do any cooking I would recommend bringing some basics with you such as salt, pepper and sugar as there is none at the home. You should also expect to bring or purchase hand soap and dish soap as this was not provided. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would definitely rent again!!

We stayed in the green house for a week for my son s wedding. There were six adults and two children. It's an older home but full of character. The large downstairs room suited my son, his wife and their two children perfectly and haha we couldn't hear them cry upstairs in our rooms. Minutes away from the harbour, citadel hill and downtown. Oh yes we also walked to the casino! As everyone told us it was unusually warm I can't fault the owners for the heat, though a couple window air conditioners would be well used. Thank you for a nice holiday.

We spent a week in this spacious home while we were visiting Halifax and attending our sons wedding. It comfortably housed all ten of us and was centrally located to many attractions and the wedding events. We were able to host the reception party and have a home away from our home for this special event. It was great to have all the comforts of home: washer and dryer, kitchen space, outdoor yard space. The only frustration we had during our stay was totally out of the owners control - construction around the area made it difficult to access the house but by now this will be complete. This is a large space that can accommodate a large group comfortable. I would definitely rent this house again if I was coming to the area.

We stayed here while some work was being done on our house. The house is near downtown and right around the corner from the Propeller Brewery which is convenient! The house is an older home but has a lot of charm with old floors, high ceilings, and moldings which was cool especially if you live in a more modern place. The house is across the street from the huge skating Oval for winter use (with free skates), and the Halifax Common, although not very green in the winter. Even though it was winter we used the BBQ in the backyard a lot... it would be amazing in summer as it is sheltered and private. We used only two bedrooms but all were well equipped. I saw a note about beds... the beds were fine and it appears that the one my wife and I used appeared brand new (plastic on box spring). The washer and dryer worked great and there is a great ice cream/burrito/coffee spot call DeeDee's around the corner. We had friends drop in a fair bit and this place is great for entertaining by itself and because it's right by all the restos/bars/events downtown. We parked mainly on the street and used the owners driveway next door and had no problem at all. The owners were available on phone/text all the time and helped with any questions or anything we needed. Overall, a great time, and while we were glad to get home, I would recommend to anyone, especially groups and those in town for weddings/events.

Overall, this property served the purpose of what we needed which was a place to hang our hats, close to downtown Halifax. It is a lovely walk up and down the hill to down town and the house was large enough for us to be comfortable in. The parking is atrocious. Basically there is no place to park near the house. We were lucky that the street was closed off for part of our visit but after that a real pain. The house itself was quite cute but it felt like it was pieced together from leftover furniture and stuff from the owners. The information lists were a couple years out of date, it sleeps 8 but there are only 4 mismatched plates. A few of the beds, the mattresses were horribly old and we picked our beds based on which rooms had the best mattresses. We did enjoy our stay but we have stayed in much nicer places. A few extra minutes of loving care and this place could be amazing. The owners were very nice and responded right away when needed. The stairs to the bedrooms are very steep and narrow. Anyone with mobility problems, should be careful.
