Casa Ohana was everything we expected. The facilities were first class. Views of the beach were spectacular. Mary of Beach Grass Properties was very helpful with the house and recommendations for transportation, dining, chefs and fishing. Everyone we dealt with was great, Could not have been better. All in our party enjoyed the comfort and hospitality given to us by the locals and professionals.

Our stay at Casa Ohana exceeded our expectations in every way. On arrival we were greeted by the property manager - who was so generous and helpful while planning our trip- recommending excellent local activities and meal options. The property was spotless and had everything we needed for the week. Fantastic views, plenty of space, access to the pool and beach. We recommend this house without hesitation.

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Ohana. The house, grounds, pool and beach access were breathtaking and exceeded our expectations in every way. There was something for everyone. The surrounding restaurants were within walking distance and served amazing food. Everything about our stay was wonderful.

I can’t say enough good things about this house and location. The house is beautifully decorated and spacious; even better than the photos. It is so well stocked with anything you could possibly want or need…kitchen has EVERYTHING!!! There are games galore, 8 yoga mats (we did several “classes” on the patio by the pool which was amazing). The bathroom off the kitchen has bug spray, after sun lotion, bandaids, etc. Pool has two outside showers. We loved the location. Playa Negra is beautiful and feels secluded and remote, yet a 5 minute stroll down the beach takes you to Playa Negra hotel/restaurant where you can grab a drink or ceviche appetizer. There are some mini markets close to the house, but the main shopping for produce and meats happens 30 minutes away in Tamarindo. There’s an amazing open air produce stand before you get to Tamarindo where you can stock up on beans, rice, tortillas, and all fruits and veggies.
Mary was very responsive and helpful with any of our questions or needs. Lola’s in Avellanas for lunch is a must! You can rent beach chairs for $10 and enjoy all day. Drinks and food there aren’t cheap, but worth the splurge for a day. Our kids did surf lessons with the surf school there twice and loved it.
This house has the most amazing views and sunsets of anywhere we’ve ever stayed. Waking up to that view every morning and hearing the waves all day and night was so relaxing and refreshing. We were very sad to leave and hope to return someday!

There were 10 us, four children and six adults. The home is spacious with more than enough room. It was a great place to just relax with a good book, or take in all the activities that Costa Rica has to offer. Surfing, swimming, buggy boarding, zip lining, it's all available. We would love to return someday.

If I could have a dream house, this would be it. Light, bright, airy. Plenty of room for our family of 10 to have space yet be all together, as well. Extremely well stocked in kitchen as well as games, towels, etc. Beds were comfortable and sofas were great for napping.
Note: only the bedrooms have a/c and it was very buggy but you are in the tropics!
Playa Negra is a great place to spend a week at the beach in Costa Rica.
Mary is a hands on property manager and ready to help with any of your needs.
We hope to return again, truly a beautiful place.

Our family of four decided on a Christmas getaway to Costa Rica for the first time. We were so fortunate to find Casa Ohana and Mary. First - Mary is the best host! She planned our ground transportation, rental car delivery to house as well as other activities and even a masseuse who came to the home and was so nice and great. She put us in touch with Jennifer at La Ventana who catered a couple of delicious meals delivered right at dinner to the house.
Casa Ohana is purely spectacular. From the sunrise to sunset, it never disappointed. Space was more than twice our group would ever need. Kitchen well stocked with all appliances, pots as well as many sauces and spices for everything.
Loved the pool! Ping pong was a blast and of course the beach. Would see wildlife right in back yard and a pod (???) of monkeys woke us up one night running atop the roof. Very cool. The house is secluded but still close by to some restaurants (Piko Brazil is awesome) and small stores. Our driver from airport suggested to stop at larger market closer to Liberia which was surprising but so helpful.
Can see how Casa Ohana gets 5 stars!
Thanks for a great vacation

WOW! JUST WOW!
Casa Ohana did not disappoint! The property was amazing and the views were spectacular! Truly allowed the seven of us to live pura vida for a few days!
Mary, the property manager, was unbelievable! From coordinating transportation, helping with fishing charters, suggesting Chef Garrett with Pura Vida Catering, and Guti Tours for horseback riding on the beach, she made the vacation truly unforgettable! We cannot wait to go back!

Casa Perfection!!!
We had the vacation of a lifetime with our dear friends and enjoyed all the concierge services that Mary provided and had the most amazing food. Our group surfed everyday all day. Casa Ohana is set up so perfectly with the most amazing coews and is extremely well stocked. We cannot wait to return next year!

Perfect Beach House!
We just returned from a week in playa negra. The house is amazing, the pool-outside area was so embedded in nature, the kitchen was fully equipped and you are right on the beach! Close enough to Tamarindo for easy trips but secluded enough to really feel desolate and private. Playa Avellanas is amazing beach-town that is like 1 mile down the road. Mary, the property manager was amazing and booked all of our excursions. Can’t wait to go back.

Beautiful Pacific Home
Fantastic property. Great for our family of teens & twenties w/ girlfriends. Superb concierge help from the host staff; we used their in home chef preparation suggestions on 2 occasions and the results were delicious. Kitchen was the finest stocked VRBO we have ever rented. Ping Pong table was popular as was the pool. Breezes from the NW flowed through the outdoor area. We walked on the beach north 2.5M to Avellenas and 1M south toward Callejones; great tide pools! I rented a MTN bike from Pargos adventures and rode S to Rio Andamojo and N over the hill between Pinilla & Paraiso. Great family vacation!

Amazing
Our family of 8, including my husband and me, and 3 adult sons with girlfriends/wives, stayed at Casa Ohana for 8 nights over Christmas. We had scheduled this trip two years ago, had to cancel last year because of COVID, and finally were able to go! The photos don’t do justice to the property. It is airy, light, visually stunning, with so many spaces to hang out, find a corner to read in, get some work done, or to enjoy the sunsets every night. The kitchen is VERY well stocked, much to the enjoyment of our foodie family. The house doesn’t lack for anything. The beach is just steps away. Kids boogie boarded, walked over to Playa Negra Resort for happy hour, we looked through the tide pools every day for sea life, and one morning we found sea turtle tracks leading from the water right up to the base of the property where they had laid eggs the night before. Mary was incredible to work with - answered emails and calls promptly and helped set up so many things. A masseuse came to the house one morning, guys went deep sea fishing, car rental came right to the house, we had personal chefs come two nights, dinner reservations at a local restaurant, surf lessons… you name it, Mary helped us with it! The fish truck came to our driveway the day before Christmas, and our whole menu changed when we saw the fresh shrimp and other goodies! Two days the bakery truck came - yummy! We felt secure in the gated Rancho Playa Negra community, and loved waving at Luis the security guard every day coming and going. It was a dream vacation, and we will definitely come back to Casa Ohana on our next trip to Costa Rica. Pure Vida!

We wanna go back!
Casa Ohana was our favorite house we've stayed in CR so far. We were there over spring break which is apparently the area's dry/windy season. Although we prefer being surrounded by tropical trees with birds and wildlife around us, once in the house, you forget that you're not. The sound of waves crashing, and the landscaping around the house is perfect. The kids were at the beach every day finding all sorts of fun stuff, like starfish, sand dollars, crabs, hermit crabs, etc. The boogie boards from the house were a hit too. We had more than enough room for the 11 of us, 4 adults and 7 kids. This house has everything you need for a relaxing vacation. We would definitely stay here again!

Best vacation
We absolutely loved this home. The pool, the short walk to the beach, the security, we could go on forever. We left the house a few times to venture out and many local
Stores and restaurants near by that were great! This was hands down the best vacation the 10 of us have ever been on (4 adults-6kids). Fun for everyone!!

Best organized space! Perfectly designed house! Integrated superb at the landsape!
I've never lived at the home like this before... it's huge and is good for a big family or a group of friends with kids (such as we were). This house is the best stay during our 35-days trip around Costa Rica.
There is space for everybody. And there is a lot of space to get together for a dinner for example (indoor and outdoor).
The house has lots of extra stuff that you don't expect to find (such as pool stuff, bodyboards, all sort of kitchen stuff and so on and so on).
There are lots of shady places to relax during the midday hot sun.
The sunset bench is a hidden gem (not all of our friends got to know that it exists) and a very nice romantic place to watch the sunset or for meditation!
The beach is almost private with very little people.
Other reviews don't mention it but the beach is good for surfing and we didn't even went at Playa Avellanas for surf.
I saw a turtle when surfing and a stingray while snorkling and what is more astonishing - we saw WHALES right infront of the villa so close that they were visible without the binocular.
Can't forget the walk on the beach at the moonlight when there are no other people at all!
And you feel safe at this location sometimes noticing the guards checking the territory!
Awesome stay!
Thanks to Mary for her advices and a very professional and pleasant attitude!
And sorry again for the mess we almost left at the kitchen during the rush we were leaving the house! At the last minute we made a final afford and cleaned all the trash away!
So ... please keep in mind the house rule - leave the house exactly as you received it!

Gorgeous beachfront home with beautiful views!
From the moment we stepped into the house and saw the stunning views from every window, our group of 10 friends were amazed at the beauty of our location. We were very happy with our choice and the description was just as in photos. Stunning views every morning and gorgeous sunsets every night. We loved the well appointed Casa Ohana - it was clean, spacious, comfortable and plenty of room for 5 couples. Beds were super comfy and having AC in the bedrooms was great. Didn't need it in the rest of house where you had awesome ocean breezes. Mary was very helpful and attentive when we had a question or couldn't figure out how to use the induction burners the first time :) Also helped all 10 of us schedule our in house massages! Ask Mary about this - its worth it! Mary also helped us get the "Fish truck" to stop at the house so we could pick out fresh tuna and mahi-mahi to cook on the grill at the house. The bakery truck also stopped by the same day with home baked breads and pastries to die for :)
The pool and beach were fantastic. Having delicious, fresh meals delivered by Jennifer from Cafe La Ventana was a highlight! Highly recommend this. Definitely have dinner at "Il Rustico" - amazing Italian food and super nice, friendly owner. Have to visit Lola's beach bar! Great horse back riding on beach with Guti Tours, Playa Avellanas - we love Andre and Papi!
If we are lucky enough to come back to Playa Negra we will definitely stay here again. Thanks for having us!

Amazing, relaxing home with beautiful views!!
Our entire group thoroughly enjoyed the property!! We had plenty of room for our 12 guests - all the kids ages 5-16 had plenty of space and activities to keep them happy and occupied from the pool to the ping pong table to the beach, while the adults had plenty of space and balconies to relax and enjoy the beautiful views and the many surfers. Thank you for sharing your amazing home!

Vacation in Paradise!
Stayed Jan 2019
Our family of ten adults (eight in their 20's) thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The views are STUNNING from every balcony, main living areas and master bedroom. The constant lulling sound of the waves crashing on the rocks is incredible, and the ocean and pool water are so tepid and clean that you won't want to come out! The architectural details are well thought-out and gorgeous. One of our favorite hangout places was the outdoor covered area with beautiful lighting, a bar area with frig, pingpong table, dining table, hammock and places to hang bathing suits and towels (well-stocked). Beautiful landscaping around pool and house that was regularly cleaned during our stay. It is and looks like a rental, meaning it needs some TLC. But it hardly took away from its beauty (better than the pics). Please remove the giant advertisement in the kitchen! Very tacky. The property owner/manager met us a few minutes after our arrival and spoke quite brusquely, to the point where everyone dispersed to different parts of the house. Fortunately, we did not need her services during the week and everything worked like clockwork. The maid and landscapers were so nice! The bedrooms have A/C (it was in the low 90's all week, though felt like 80's), though I enjoyed not having A/C in the main areas as it allowed the many doors to be wide open and to hear and feel the incredible ocean breezes.
Recommend: Michelle of All Fresh Catering, Hotel Playa Negra outdoor dining for dinner (it's right on the beach), Villa Deeveena (INCREDIBLE outdoor dining experience), 4WD SUV, La Vida Buena for A/C'd game watching and Italian/Costa Rican fare, Lola's at Avellanes Beach for beachside food and drinks, Gustavo Santana for surfing lessons, close walking distance to Piko Negro for outdoor pizza dining and beer, day visit to Tamarindo and SNUBA with Michael at Playa Flamingo. Pura Vida!!

Truly gorgeous location, beautiful home
This house did not disappoint! The views are spectacular, the home spacious, light , clean and very well equipped. Our entire family loved the pool, the beach, and the surfers among us were in heaven. View of the break at Playa Negra was a real treat. We appreciated the boogie boards, beach towels, and loads of books and games. We were very happy with this choice and the description was quite accurate. Highly recommend the catered food from La Ventana, which was a treat to have waiting at the end of a long travel day, very healthy, delicious and large portions!

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!
Casa Ohana is a dream home.
We have stayed in 4 homes now in Guanacaste over the past 4 years, and this home is by far the most beautiful and enjoyable. Simple and elegant, Ohana is conveniently close to everything you need. We loved it. Watching the serious surfing everyday from the porch was delightful and inspiring, pool is beautiful, ping pong on lanai, porches everywhere...I could go on and on. We had a delightful time.

Never wanted to leave Casa Ohana
This house and site are absolutely spectacular! Upon arrival at the end of the driveaway one sees this structure curving towards the ocean and compelling you to to discover it's mysteries further. Getting to the front entry the vistas draw you to the beach and the rocks that are framed by the gateway to an outdoor lanai that is seems set up to draw the breeze and take in the beauty of the lanscape beyond. The Curved stairs in the entry draw you up to a beautiful expansive living area where we had fun hanging out and onece again enjoyed the most amazing shoreline and perfect spot to look at the surf . Climbing further up the floating stairs were the bedrooms with their soaring ceilings yet cosy spaces that had views to both teh ocean and the mountains in the opposite directions. The rooms were completely light and airy. On the bed in the master suite, it felt as if you were sleeping on a raft in the ocean, the building seemed to dissapear and the waves beyond felt as if they were touchable. The sunsets were exquisite.
Wish I could stay forever.
