About this house rental
We are a 150 acre working farm with cattle and crops, fronting the South River, at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. You can see the house from overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The view from the house will cure high blood pressure in a minute. We are an ideal base for visiting Charlottesville , Skyline Drive, 151 trail wineries, BR Pkwy. and Staunton.
Because it is an old farm house with additions (total of around 3100 sq ft} the floor plan is unique. Downstairs includes all the public rooms plus a full bath. Upstairs includes three bedrooms, all queens, and a bunk room with 2 singles and a trundle which sleeps 3, and two full baths. One of the baths is off a central hall, the other is off one of one of the bedrooms. The upstairs rooms are on three levels, often requiring a step or two between rooms and the hall. If you are a person easily disoriented when you wake up at night, you may want to stay in the room with the ensuite bath with no steps. Also, it has a metal roof, so you will hear rain and wind storms if one arises.
Please note, the base rate is for up to four people. If you have more than four people it is $10 per person per night extra.
The address is 118 Hall School Rd, Waynesboro, VA 22980, should you wish to map it.
While only a few miles from the interstate, we are in a lovely rural setting. With 3/4 mile frontage on the South River, we have lovely paths for hiking and gentle water for canoeing (no rapids) and fishing, bass and trout. During the summer river water level can be pretty low and not great to canoe. There are other rivers in the area better suited for canoeing and tubing. This area is particularly nice for biking, with many rural roads, and excellent mountain biking trails nearby in the national forest. With 24 wineries within 25 miles, you can enjoy a grand tour or just visit a couple only 10 minutes away. Lake Sherando is 15 minutes away for swimming.
In the Fall the colors of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah Valley are amazing. There is no extra charge for them.
You'll have a full modern kitchen, or many restaurants nearby for dining. The den features a card table and a large HD TV with DVD. We have an outside basketball court, and lots of area for soccer.
Behind the house there is a patio with a wonderful view of the property and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The patio includes a firepit and a hottub.
In our many five star reviews, you will read about people enjoying the games in our large 100 year old barn. Unfortunately the barn burned to the ground January 4, 2023 so we don’t have quite as many activities available on the farm.
If you are so inclined, you can visit our chickens and two donkeys, Fergie and Olive. You can win their hearts with an apple or carrot, or by brushing their coats.
We are less than 30 minutes from Charlottesville (Monticello and University of Virginia), Wintergreen(golf and skiing) and Staunton(Frontier museum and Shakespeare Theater). 45 minutes from Harrisonburg, Masanutten with it's waterpark and skiing, Lexington and the Safari zoo. About 2 hours from Richmond, Williamsburg, Jamestown and 3 hours from Washington DC and Virginia Beach.
Dulles airport is 2.5 hours and Richmond airport is about 90 minutes. 30 minutes from Charlottesville airport.
Come settle in on our farm, take in all the fun activities in the area, and then relax with the comforts and room of home.
Our minimum stay is 2 nights.

Fun place to stay with family. Beautiful countryside. Kids enjoyed picnic area, hot tub, and visiting farm animals.

This beautiful home offers both the stunning mountains of Virginia as well as a number of amazing locations around the property. Whether you like walking down to a gazebo for a day trip, picking wild blackberries along a trail, or spending a day around a fire pit this place has something for you! The owners are very attentive to what you need, and are easy to contact if there are any issues. The house is beautifully maintained and everything works amazingly. The house itself is spacious and very clean, and the owners are right nearby if you need anything and are always willing to help. Will definitely be coming back in the future, thank you so much for such an amazing trip!

We selected this home for a family gathering and commuted to Charlottesville for my daughter's college graduation. We had a wonderful time at the farmhouse. It is a tastefully-appointed home located on a working farm, surrounded by the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and 100 acres of farmland. The home has a great kitchen with everything you could need to prepare your meals. The beds (and pillows) were comfortable. Brad was an excellent host during our stay. I highly recommend this property.

This property is beautifully appointed and neat as a pin. We enjoyed the outdoor amenities as well as sharing time around the dining room table and cocktails in the room, and chats over morning coffee in the sunroom. It was plenty big for four couples. The location made a trip to a trail and brewery easy but its views are mountains and bucolic fields during the day and enough dark sky at night to see the stars. We had a great stay.

While we did go to Wintergreen for tubing our stay at the Farmhouse was wonderful. We enjoyed walking the beautiful property, meeting the farm animals and making great memories. The hot tub and fire pit were great outdoor additions. The views were spectacular- the house itself had several assets that kept children and adults of all ages entertained!

My friends and I chose Purple Haze for our weekend birthday get away. It was perfect! Close to everything and the views are incredible. Our hosts are super friendly and accommodating and the house was clean and they even had treats waiting for us upon arrival. We fed the donkeys, met the cows, enjoyed the fire pit and the card games in the game room. Perfect place to relax and get away. We will be visiting again!

We procrastinated in finding a place in Charlottesville for family weekend and booked Brad's guesthouse in Waynesboro. And we were glad we did! The property was beautiful and had something for all ages. The kids loved feeding the donkeys and watching the cows. Not to mention the hot tub. Brad provided wood for the firepit, which we used both nights. The grill was both clean and working (not always the case for a vrbo!). Brad was a great host and very helpful. Overall, a great stay!

We had a great stay at this quiet, picturesque place with awesome views and comfortable home There was plenty of space to spread out and explore!. It was such a relaxing time sitting around the fire circle in the adirondack chairs enjoying the beautiful land, mountains, and stars. The host was so welcoming...he showed us around the farm and gave us great tips about what to do and good places to eat. It was a fantastic location...private, with plenty of amenities, and close to town. We loved our time here.

We enjoyed the hot tub and wood burning fireplace.

Staying at this beautiful home was also an experience. Brad and Deana were gracious and helpful hosts and we got to meet their donkeys and chickens and eat fresh eggs and veggies from their garden. We walked through the corn and soybean fields on their property. The house is spacious and comfortable and well stocked. Beyond the house there is a lot to do in the area — hiking, history, wineries — and the scenery is beautiful. We wished we could have stayed longer!

We had a great stay at this well-appointed farm house. The space was just as described, very comfortable, and a well-equipped kitchen. The owners were even kind enough to pick up a few new toys for our young kids. The beds were very comfortable, and there is plenty of space to hang out and enjoy the ambiance - both inside the house as well as outside on the porch, lovely backyard tables, fire pit, and bench swing. The kids loved visiting the chickens and donkeys, and seeing the cows in the field beyond the fence. The house feels remote yet is just minutes away from conveniences of supermarkets and local shops.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay complete with beautiful grounds, cows in the pasture and excellent hospitality. The house is filled with interesting furniture and accompaniments. The walk through the farm fields to the river was peaceful and well worth the time and effort. The house is very close to great hikes along the Blue Ridge and in Shenandoah National Park. We will be back.

This home is more than a house. It's an experience. Visited for Thanksgiving with my family. There were 7 of us and the sleeping arrangements were perfect.
The home is so much better than the photos. It's steeped in history, from the decor to the open fields to the eclectic artwork -- it's a feast for the eyes and would be lovely any time of year.
Each room is perfectly appointed with an eye toward those little details that make things extra special. Also, the bedrooms are enormous.
For example, in my bedroom, there was a shelf with a tiny pair of Native American moccasins, numerous books and precious little tchotchkes. Inside the bedrooms, soft rugs and numerous COTTON (no polyester in sight!) quilts gave a sense of coziness and kept that glorious hardwood floor warm enough for bare feet.
You could eat from the kitchen floor. The room is immaculate and colorful, equipped with a butcher block island and all of the basic needs -- including quite a few extras that you don't normally find in a rental, like detergent, washer & dryer, myriad utensils and a superior range. A farmhouse dining table made for an ideal mealtime together.
There were enough rooms for everyone to spread out and do their own thing during the rainy days. However, I would note that the TV isn't much of an option. We only got a few channels. I would suggest adding a Chromecast maybe. That would be nice for more tech-savvy guests to cast their favorite shows or videos.
Outside, it is a working farm. We visited with the cattle in their nearby pasture. Hint: they love apples! There are also two adorable donkeys, chickens and many other outdoor options, including a barn with games and a pool table inside! The donkeys would get so excited when they saw us coming with treats like carrots and apples -- one of them even lost her voice! The kids were outside from dawn to dusk many days.
The hot tub gave us a few nights of fun, as did the lovely and large firepit, equipped with plenty of wood.
The owner lives nearby and was available around the clock with information and tips.
Overall, I would say this was our favorite family vacation. I would be happy to return any time.

We just left and are already trying to figure out when we can return! This farm was amazing! There was something for everyone in our party (adults and kids (4-10)) to enjoy. We spent so much time just enjoying the beautiful property. The house was in an amazing location and had everything we needed for a great trip. The kids especially enjoyed the kids room, legos, books, and games. We will be back!

I can't say enough about our experience here! From the moment we arrived we felt so welcome. The hosts were phenominal, the place was spotless, the views were even better in person, and there was tons to do and see in the area. Would highly recommend this property to everyone! You will be so glad you came.

Beautiful Getaway
I'm not sure where to begin on how wonderful our stay was. Our host Brad was so kind, gave us a tour of the farm, left us farm fresh eggs, peaches and sweets. He answered all our questions and gave us tons of information on the area. The farmhouse is lovely, we loved the hot tub, fire pit, watching the sunset and feeding the donkeys. It is far enough from town that it feels like you have the world to yourselves and is so peaceful, yet close enough (about 20-30 minutes) from so many things to do. We didn't quite know whether to just stay on the farm and enjoy the quiet or go explore the breath of activities. We were there a week and could have stayed several more. We tried to balance both. We saw glassblowing in Staunton, a polo match in Charlottesville and explored the Blue Ridge Tunnel and many of the wineries/distilleries/cideres in the area. Such a fun and relaxing stay, we would love to come back!

We had a wonderful few days stay. The house and location are beautiful and the photos don't do it full justice. It was perfect for a family group to spend time together but also big enough for all to have their own space. The barn, with ping pong and other games, was a perfect hangout location and the hot tub ideal to watch the beautiful sunsets. Brad was a fantastic host, super approachable for any questions we had (eg best route for a 5 k run around the fields). We all left wishing we could have spent another week!

My wife and I had a great time. The property owners could not have been any nicer. The house is super accommodating and ready for a larger group or an intimate get away. There is a lot to do for all ages on the property or within a 15 minute drive. I wish we had planned for more time there but we will be back.

We were supposed to ski over president's day weekend and somehow failed to make our arrangements in time -- and guess what, nobody cared! We had such a nice time (on a very chilly weekend to boot) relaxing around the property, the kids just loved the house for hide and seek, the yard especially the donkeys, tire swing, and gorgeous (+hilariously spooky) barn. We hiked the property, played games, used the hot tub and fire pit and did barely anything beyond even though Brad offered us plenty of great recommendations. Such a memorable weekend, very appreciative of the wonderful hospitality.

This place is great! The owner (Brad) met us when we arrived. He showed us around the property and all the things to do- outdoor gathering areas, activities in the barn. There is also a gazebo down by the river. We also appreciated the fresh eggs and local baked goods waiting for us in the kitchen. There are plenty of rooms for quiet time alone and a nice big dining room for meals together and evening games. You are also close to a couple of small towns that are fun to explore and hiking trails are everywhere!

The farm house is lovely and as described — a bit eccentric in terms of layout but renovated and charmingly decorated with a mix of antiques and modern things and some art deco touches. Nice mix of books and games throughout. A well-supplied and very functional kitchen (we did a lot of cooking, including cooking our Thanksgiving meal). The barn is a gorgeous old structure, and we loved all the games. Also enjoyed walking down to the river—a peaceful trek winding next to the fields and orchards and along the riverbank. The view out the back toward the mountains will be a treasured memory: the “purple haze” of the mountains during the day, and the big starry sky at night. This is truly a special place, and we would love to come back.

The Best Experience
I cannot even express how wonderful this property and the hosts are. The house is beautiful and very comfortable. The view of the mountains is incredible. Location is perfect. Very close to I-64 but away from any traffic. I met Brad the morning after we arrived and he gave me the tour of the property. I cannot put into words what a fantastic experience this was for me and my wife. We will definitely be back!
