About this house rental
One of a kind 4BR 3BA 5,200 sqft home. Stunning views of the CO Ntl Mnt and entire Grand Valley. Our grandpa, a home builder, designed this rustic house as a masterpiece for his family. He wanted it to be part of nature, so he fit it between trees and inside left exposed the massive sandstone slab on which it’s built. Experience nature but less than 15 minutes from downtown. This large house has entertained our family and friends for generations, and we’re thrilled that now you can share it with yours, too. This is our only rental house, so you'll be sure to receive dedicated service!
---------Home Description----------
Our grandpa designed and built this unique home in a way that captures the rugged terrain on which it sits and compliments the stunning natural beauty of the Colorado National Monument that serves as the backdrop. He made it so every room has its own stunning view. Look closely at the photos to see the rock and wood detail throughout. The sandstone slab of the hill on which it’s built actually makes up the entire wall of the downstairs family room and the floor of the room above. Grandpa had artistic vision, creativity, and the craftsmanship to put it all together and he built this house from his heart. (He was still building furniture for us well into his 90s!). It has served as a cherished place for family gatherings, and we invite you to enjoy your vacation the way we have enjoyed this home throughout the generations. Have breakfast in the kitchen or on the upper deck, while enjoying unobstructed views of the Colorado National Monument and the way the morning sun hits the red rocks. Spend evenings watching the sun set over the Bookcliffs and the Grand Valley. During the summers you might catch a lightning storm over the grand valley as the thunder echoes off the massive canyon walls behind the house. Or use our BBQ to make your meal on our giant deck while taking in the views. Take leisurely walks through the neighborhood or drive/bike to get to everything that Grand Junction has to offer. (See list below!)
While most of the home furnishings are rustic and cozy in a way that preserves the years of fond memories, we made sure you had enough upgraded guest amenities to make your stay as comfy as can be: we just remodeled the showers, we have hotel-quality linens, plush towels, and plenty of toiletries. You get to enjoy a vacation with maybe the most gorgeous views in the Grand Valley, in a house full of charmingly-old stuff spanning generations, but you still get to sleep as if you were staying in a great hotel. Please note that we sometimes need to water the outdoor plants.
------PLEASE NOTE-------
We try our absolute best to keep the house clean for you and all of our future guests. For this reason, we ask that you note our rules for no pets and no groups or gatherings of over 10 people. Unfortunately we aren't willing to bend on these rules and will have to say no to any exceptions (best not to ask). Thanks!
As our home is on three levels and on a hill, it has stairs to the front door and then staircases to the second and third level. Please take this into consideration if anyone in your group has mobility limits.
We do have a ring camera outside the front door. There are no cameras or any kind of monitoring equipment inside our home.
Should you need to make a last minute cancellation, this is our policy: As soon as you cancel our calendar opens up for rebooking. enjoyed hanging out on the deck + exploring the immediate area. Short trip into town was nice.

Folks have said the pics don't do it justice and they are right! This is the loveliest, cheerfully kitschy, uniquely rustic style home we've had the pleasure of staying in. It was clean and stocked well. Rooms to comfortably fit all 6 of us. There was something to see in every room. Gorgeous views everywhere you look! Property mgr/owner met us there to go over the quirky heating and cooling which just ads to how much I love this place. The owner was super responsive upon booking and any questions we had.
We come every year for a birthday golf trip. We played Redlands Mesa, Tiara Rado and Devils Thumb. Perfect place to stay and we WILL be back to this home!
Thank you for making the trip that much better!

And I mean wacky in the best possible way! We stayed as few groups of families in early May and there was more than enough space for everyone including multiple beds/bedrooms and a shared full bathroom on each of the 3 levels. The house was VERY eclectic with 70's style patterned wallpapers and something new to discover each time you entered the same room. The listing photos are accurate but don't do this house justice in portraying how unique it really is. The views of the surrounding landscape and Colorado National Monument were immaculate! We spent a lot of time on the giant outdoor deck enjoying the spring sunshine and amazing views. The location was great, easy to get to Grand Junction and to Palisade for wine tastings. The hosts were some of the nicest and most communicative hosts of any vacation home I have ever stayed in. Highly recommend this rental for bigger families and groups that aren't afraid of some wacky decor and wallpaper, if anything else you will be entertained by the charm of this home and its amazing history!

When I look to stay someplace, I am hoping for a unique experience in a great location, and this fantastic rental delivered. No "cheapest-Ikea-furniture-we-can-find" experience here; authentic, clean, perfectly located against the backdrop of the Colorado Monument, close to Lunch Loops MTB, and one of a kind.

We stayed there for 2 days and we really enjoyed it. Very clean and excellent location overlooking the beautiful mountains. Will highly recommend.

We had a wonderful time staying at this property. The location was easy to get into town or anywhere we wanted to go. It made for a great home base for our Western Slope adventures.

Ladies weekend for five...this place was absolutely perfect! Unique, eclectic, fascinating. Spectacular views from all windows. Nicely appointed, comfortable beds and furniture, lots of space to spread out...we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Hosts were very welcoming and communication with them was super easy. Perfect place to get away!! Absolutely highly recommend!!

We had a great stay for a golf trip. Location is awesome, and the house is perfect for entertaining family and friends. Very unique inside and the deck is awesome for star gazing. Hosts are very responsive and helpful. Would definitely stay again.

I can’t say enough about our stay here! The house is so unique and was more than roomy for our two families with teenage boys to share and spread out. The views of the Colorado Monument from the deck are stunning, the property itself with hiking right in the backyard, apricot trees, and mule deers that walk right up make it truly magical. And of all the homes we’ve rented, the owners were the absolute nicest and most communicative—they made us feel so welcome. This was our first time to Grand Junction and there is just so much to do both in the town and within 2 hours—we hiked, explored the Monument and waterfalls, kayaked, off-roaded, went horseback riding, and visited the local farmers markets and wineries. There was something to do for everyone! Thank you for sharing this special place with us—we can’t wait to come back!

Every detail of “the house on the rock’s” design is so intentional and creative. By incorporating the magnificent nature around Grand Junction into the interior space, it allows visitors an immersive experience of the high desert. The most common word uttered by my colleagues and me was, “Whoah!!” — usually followed by, “…check this out!”; “…look how clever this is!; “…this is bleeping gorgeous!”.
I loved the purple salvia bracketing our first view of the “backyard” — which is a towering mesa. The deck was so inviting for early morning coffee — sipping and listening to the quail, doves, swifts and finches. I even saw a humming bird perch for a breathtaking few stationary minutes. Though we were there for business, I drove to the top of the monument to greet the dawn on my last morning, and it was simply awe inspiring.
Andrea, Tyson and Lana are clearly proud of this handcrafted gem of a property. They were so gracious and thoughtful. Lots of little details and considerations for travelers made our stay so easy. The communication was great and the guestbooks, strategically placed throughout the house, were super-informative and helpful.
We are grateful for this unique opportunity!

MAGNIFICENT doesn’t seem to truly express what we feel. Our stay was perfect! My husband and I travelled to Grand Junction w/our daughter and 3 grandchildren for our sons wedding and this home was everything we wanted and needed and MORE! The views are spectacular, the hosts are the most communicative, helpful, and accommodating than we have ever dealt with, and their home, well it was simply perfect for what we needed. Lots of space indoors with all the comforts of home, an outdoor deck that we sat on with friends and family for hours 2 of the nights (the charcoal grill made it easy to have a cookout), and the views were simply breathtaking and no picture can do them justice!
With all the stresses of traveling cross-country for a wedding, this was the perfect spot for us!
We can’t thank you enough for sharing your home with us! When we come out again we will definitely stay here

The house was very unique and the location was great. Lots room and the deck we used frequently. The only drawback was lots of stairs.

Such a unique and fun property with amazing geography literally right outside your door. For those of us who grew up in the 70s, it brought us more than a few trips down memory lane. Lots and lots of room. Great gathering spaces perfect for families. While it was just the two of us, we could easily envision our family staying here and having a great time. Our hosts were very accommodating and communication was excellent. Be sure to take advantage of the welcome tour of the house as it has a number of idiosyncrasies. We had a lovely time and really enjoyed our evenings overlooking the valley from the second floor living room.

We had 6 adults & 3 kids; plenty of room for everyone. The kids loved the rambling house, while I loved the claw foot bathtub. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need. It was such an enjoyable time. Thank you for sharing your house with us!!

Unique, fun, house in a stunning location. We had a wonderful time

Quirky, creative incorporation of bedrock into inside spaces; gorgeous views in every room, especially the master suite where we watched sun rise, sunset and lunar eclipse. Three bedrooms are actually 3 two-bedroom suites. The home is well kept even though maintenance must be tremendous in this one-of-a kind home.

Beautiful views / great location. Fun and quirky house! Worked great for a weekend getaway for 6 friends.

Great house for a weekend getaway with friends. Plenty of parking. Well stocked kitchen. Space to spread out with a large group.

The area is stunning and the house is very unique. This is the second time we’ve stayed in thus house because of its proximity to the Colorado National Monument and the biking in the area. I love this house as I am a former house builder and craftsman but it needs lots of work. A rickety chair broke when one of our group sat in it which could be very dangerous for an elderly person. Also the unique door knocker cut two of our group more than once because of sharp edges. It was a nasty gash on one cut. We had a hard time unlocking the deadbolt but finally we’re able to. We just left the door open after that. So all in all we probably won’t come back even though I love the place.

Appreciated the opportunity to stay in such stunning scenery. Comfortable beds and fabulous deck. We biked, fished and golfed and had a fantastic stay. Thank you.

What a fun house. Very unique. The views simply do not get any better. Owners are quick to respond and very accommodating.

Easy check in, clean and comfortable house with everything we needed. We loved how unique the house was as well as the amazing views. Highly recommend this house!!!

Stunning views in every direction. Quite relaxing neighborhood. Something for everyone

Our family of 4 had an amazing stay here. As the previous reviews point out, it is a funky house. We were totally into that and found the family history endearing. If you want plain vanilla, this is not the house for you. If you love adventure, funky architecture, and amazing views of both the monument and the sun rise over the valley, this is it!
The entrance to Colorado National Monument park is 5 minutes by car. There are many outstanding hikes just a few minutes into the park. Grocery stores and liquor stores were about a 7 minute drive.
We loved out stay! Highly recommend. The only recommendation we have for the owners would be to upgrade the AC. The swamp coolers don't work in the muggy month of August. But many stand-alone AC units were provided, so every sleeping room was cool and comfortable.

Beautiful, Unique House
Very unique property with amazing views from every window. Separate areas allowed for privacy and nice great room for together time as well. We will definitely stay here again!
Communication with owners was fantastic and the owner even met us upon arrival.

A true Colorado experience
By far one of the best views and locations of our 24 years planning hiking trips with our family . The awe on my kids faces when they walked onto this property will not be forgotten. So many memories made every night eating dinner on the deck and playing card games overlooking the monument. We didn’t want to go inside at night the perfect location for our daytime hiking adventures and the most relaxing place to come back to for everyone to spread out into there own space. The house has its quirks but that can all be overlooked with everything else it has to offer. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here and hope to be able to visit again someday!! Thank you so much for opening your amazing family home full of memories that allowed us to add some of our own!

This property is super unique, very clean, and a great place to stay for a group. We all had plenty of room and checked in by ourselves with no problems. Some rooms don’t provide much privacy but they are well described. The house is the most unique place we’ve ever stayed. The window ac units provided enough cooling but were somewhat loud in downstairs bedroom. MTB trails just three miles from the house and the monument is easily within cycling distance. Winery and golf courses close by. Quiet neighborhood with the best views. Highly recommend!

Great for nature loving family or friend groups
Gorgeous views from every big window in this fun and quirky house.
I suggest better ( brighter) lighting especially in stairwells and kitchen for safety.

Very good experience. Property manager very helpful. Only negatives would be better lighting, especially by steps and sunken levels and jacuzzi didn’t work.
