About this villa rental
A Peaceful & Secluded Estate in the Heart of Ubud - Villa Madu and adjacent Nest @ Villa Madu is a hidden tropical paradise on over a half hectare of fern gardens, frangipani trees, and jungle, yet only 5 minutes walk to the main street in Ubud.
Perfect for a retreat, special celebration, family reunion, or intimate wedding, the entire property can be booked together and comfortably sleeps up to 32 guests in 18 bedrooms.
Villa Madu offers 9 bedrooms and 9+ baths in 4 houses with 3 kitchens.

Magnolia Cottage - 2 bd 2 ba
Riverview House - 2 bd 2 ba
Villa Madulina - 2 bd 2 ba
The Nest consists of 7 individual bungalows, each with a loft, verandah, and efficiency kitchen. Common areas include a two-story community building with a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, spa area and activity room for yoga, dance lessons, or other uses.
Both properties have their own swimming pool.
YOGA SHALA
Rental of either VILLA MADU or THE NEST includes up to 4 hours of access daily to our yogashala/dance studio/banquet room. There is separate access so while there may be others using the space, each side has complete privacy so no one will be passing through. This would offer an ideal space for meetings, training, yoga, or banquets and other functions.
BREAKFAST & OPTIONAL MEALS
Ibu Nurdi’s legendary breakfast, always with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, is included with your booking. Additional meals, traditional banquets, Balinese dance performances and other events are available upon request.
NATURAL AIR CONDITIONING
Villa Madu & The Nest are committed to preserving the beauty and environment of Ubud, so we are proud to share the authenticity, mindfulness, and connection to the Earth that our naturally ventilated venue offers.
Ubud’s higher elevation, our location next to a stream, the shady and lush jungle surroundings, great architectural design and adequate cross ventilation, along with efficient electric fans in every room make the ambient temperatures quite pleasant. While in some months of the year it can get hot during the day, the pool, the fans and the evening breezes are normally enough to keep people comfortable. Seldom do we receive a complaint about being too hot, and it’s not unusual for a guest to request an extra blanket at night.
Without the noise, heat, and artificiality of electric air-conditioning, our guests can feel the gentle breezes on their skin, hear the rustling bamboo and the pond frogs’ serenade in a monsoon rain, wake up to birdsong and the rippling river, and breathe in the fresh air. In a closed, tightly sealed air-conditioned room, visitors miss out on some of the best things about staying in Ubud!

CHILD CARE
Qualified babysitters are available at very reasonable daily and weekly rates.
CREATURES – Living in a rain forest, surrounded by the jungle, you will be sharing the environment with other members of the animal kingdom. We have regular guests like geckos which are harmless, but will happily eat as many mosquitoes as it can catch; a variety of frogs and toads will serenade you on rainy nights; and you may be visited occasionally by a monitor lizard or a monkey. There are snakes on Bali, however being very shy, they do not make an appearance very often. One should be aware, though, and avoid stepping on anything that looks like one.
MOSQUITOES & DENGUE FEVER - In the ubud area, dengue fever has always been much more of a concern than malaria. We do not use anti-mosquito fogging at the villa because of chemical concerns and also because fogging contributes to the eradication of the beneficial insects. We have found that it is not effective for more than 24 hours, and even less if it rains. We have many plants in our garden that help repel mosquitoes, and all the beds have netting. The use of a fan at night helps and we will light mosquito coils if you wish. While we do not have many mosquitos at the villa, it takes only one so it is best to be vigilant with the mosquito repellant and apply liberal doses as a preventative at dusk and also in the early morning when they like to feed. We have plenty for you to use at the villa, or you can bring your own preferred brand with you.

The property received high praise for its beautiful grounds, attentive staff, delicious breakfasts, and stunning location near Ubud. Guests loved the unique decorations, serene atmosphere, and the helpfulness of the team. Booking with Adrienne was a delight, making the stay exceptional.

The villa has three main areas, the main house which has three beautiful bedrooms that are very comfortable, and a great shared Space. Separate areas for two bedrooms and ensuite each. One is near the enterence and the other down a number of stairs. Theses are a little more rustic and older but still beautifully unique and very comfortable. The beds are little hard but they each have everything that you need including a kitchen area with kitchen, fridge, kettles and beautiful outlooks.
Villa was in a great location. It’s about 15 to 25 minute walk into a board depending on where you want to go but within 10 minutes, you can be at heaps of restaurants and shops. Just outside the villa on the street. There is about 45 restaurants I recommend Savannah and ginger Marong both fantastic food and there is a little restaurant right at your front door that will deliver food to your villa..
The pool and grounds are just stunning. It’s very old established garden and has beautiful areas some lovely private spaces that you can fit and a great space for a meeting as a family and hanging out hanging around the pool. The staff are really attentive they anticipate your needs and always really helpful. They come turn the lights on and off adjust the doors depending on the weather bring extra towels and make sure that the water is full fare just incredible. The breakfast is great. You can order the night before what you like. The staff are amazing, it’s the extra t

I planned my 50th birthday many many months ago with the help of Adrienne, who at every stage was very helpful and got back to me as soon as possible. Our booking was for 11 people, so was a bit nervous organising the trip. With Adrienne I felt very confident about our booking as her communication was excellent. Then we arrive at Villa Madu!! It was and is absolutely breathtaking, an inland paradise. It was a surreal experience for all of us. Our party stayed scattered amongst the main Villa, the Magnolia House and River Cottage. The Villa is absolutely beautiful, the bedrooms amazing, romantic, just perfect, a fantastic communal area for the lot of us to have breakfast, lounge around, rest and relax and beautifully decorated. The Magnolia House is just gorgeous, waking up to a beautiful sunrise in the trees, just stunning. The River House, a beautiful, authentic, beautifully set up romantic house. Going to sleep to the sound of running water in the river below, just magical. The gardens are magical, the statues, ponds with coy to feed, the turtles, the pool OMG I could go on and on. Then we have the hard working staff, Wayan, is a legend, Nurdi is a beautiful human being, thank you for your beautiful cooking and our chats, Dewa you do an amazing job. I'm so sorry I can't remember the other names of your team, your faces are in my mind, but you are all wonderful. Thank you for the amazing banquet for my birthday, the cake, everything. Loved every bit, thank you so much.

I had the pleasure of celebrating a milestone birthday at the Villa Madu last week with a group of my closest friends. The premises are absolutely breathtaking - you are surrounded by the jungle and it's very much an indoor-outdoor living concept with windows and light in every room. We loved that everyone had their own room space and the common area was easily accessible for everyone to come and mingle. The daily breakfast and added meals were absolutely delicious, the staff are excellent (friendly and not intrusive), and the spaces were cleaned daily. The host, Adrienne, is a great communicator and helped us coordinate daily transportation and activities too. I highly recommend Villa Madu for anyone who's looking for a homebase in Ubud, just bring your swimsuit, sunscreen, and bug spray!

This was a magical experience. Pictures do not do justice to the beauty and tranquility of the property. The secluded entrance, bridge over the koi pond, indoor/outdoor living spaces, and of course, the pool were all immaculate and the perfect modern traditional Balinese place we called home. The staff was unbelievable and helped us arrange dinner, a private banquet complete with music, dancers, and food, scooters, laundry, and welcomed us like family. This was the first of several stops in Bali and the one where felt the most "at home" in our villa.

Spectacular visit!
There are so many great things to say about the Villa Madu and the staff. They did an amazing job during my stay, no details left unturned. I was met at the airport by one of the staff and transported to Villa Madu.
From the moment of my arrival I felt like I was part of a small family. I was greeted with smiles and made to feel very welcome. The resort is comfortable and incredibly well designed. My room overlooked the forest, filled with tranquility and life. The beautiful bathroom held a luxurious tub located on an outdoor balcony; a great spot to soak, meditate and gaze at the night sky.
At this peaceful setting, one can also experience a relaxing massage as well as, delicious Indonesian cuisine. The Villa is located in close proximity to cultural sites, local shops and tasty eateries.
Needless to say, I fell in love with this beautiful resort in Ubud, on the island of Bali, staffed by kind, hospitable people.
I highly recommend you visit Villa Madu and feel quite certain you will be pleased with your stay.

Heaven on Toast!
Our one biggest regret of our 2-week holiday in Bali is that we did not stay at Villa Madu first. Had we known what it would be like, we would have cancelled all other accommodations and just stayed there. We stayed only 4 nights; we could have stayed the entire 2 weeks and still would not have had our fill. Beyond all the marvellous sightseeing and shopping, the very best part was just staying in the villa, eating the wonderful meals prepared there or ordered in, getting massages and pedicures by the pool, playing cards or board games (there is a large selection) or a game of ping pong, or music on the drums and guitars provided; or watching a movie on the laptop beamed through the projector on to the 2 meter screen. Just being together with our extended family gathered together from far-flung countries - This was seriously paradise.
The 12 of us knew, from the moment we set foot in the Villa, that this was coming home. They took such good care of us - Nurdi, Dewa, Jero, Wayan and all of the staff. Breakfast was so amazing we could barely believe that dinner was even better. They helped us organize transportation, motorbike rentals, in-house massages or spa visits, meals, laundry, and even made special meals for one of us who was under the weather. Even Alfie, the friendly little white dog, came by each evening to say hello to each of us in turn, one by one.
The property is secluded, being set back from the road. You can actually feel the air temperature drop several degrees when you step through the massive teak wood gates. Each room in the villa has it's own charms and none of them are the same. They have been thoughtfully furnished and decorated, so there is a feeling of warmth and intimacy being surrounded with beautiful original paintings, stone carvings, and a collection of pieces from the owner's world travels.
The location couldn't be better - just a few minutes walk to the main road and all that central Ubud has to offer. What wonderful memories we were able to take away with us. We can't wait to return to make more.

Stunning and serene
We stayed at Villa Madu with 2 other families (14 people in total) for one week in mid July. I wished we could have stayed forever....the property is simply stunning and we were so well cared for by Adrienne and all the staff. (Our children wanted to adopt Dee as their mother !). We loved absolutely everything about the property / the pool and water features, the outdoor bathroom, the location to town (5 min walk), the open air feel of the main villa, the exquisite furnishings in each room, the rustic bungalows hidden below the main villa, the gardens.....my list could go on and on ! With 14 people, there was so much space we could all escape to our own area, yet still come together in the main villa - which never felt crowded as it blended right into the outdoors. A real highlight was breakfast each morning and the dinners we had prepared by Dee...we have never eaten so well ! The food was a real highlight, as were all the staff. Nothing was too much trouble, from booking cycling tours to taking us to the local market to buy ingredients for dinner (and showing us how to cook it !). We felt so grateful to be able to stay at Villa Madu, and enjoy the delights of Ubud. Such a special part of world - and so good for the soul. Our own family of 5 are already talking about when we shall return to Ubud and Villa Madu. We absolutely loved it.

How can you stay anywhere else
Let me start off by saying this the first review I've ever written in my entire life. As I write my eyes are watering with the unforgettable memories we've had with the Owner and her staff. My experience here compelled me so greatly I had to express it someway or the other. The staff are the most genuine, kind and helpful people I've ever met in my life. Nurdi, the chef, rushed to receive us along with the rest of the staff and promptly led us to our rooms as they brought in our lugggage behind us. We were welcomed with fresh juices and incredible complementary snacks which we then constantly pestered her for the recipe. Adrienne, the owner came to greet us after we settled in which surprised us because in most places the owners don't have time to mingle but she took time out of her busy schedule to personally make sure we were accomadated properly. Did I mention the property? It was breathtaking. I know this review might sound dramatic but if you look at any other review they say the exact same thing because it's true! The villa is located along a natural ravine which is wonderful in the evening as it provides cooler breezes. This isn't your stuffy, touristy, concrete closed off hotel room they give you a real experience of Bali in this Villa. I could go on and on but who wants to read an essay of my experiences? Come see for yourself they will make your trip the most memorable time of your life. Thank you again Villa Madu there's a reason your the most popular place in Ubud!

Great first impressions but...
We stayed in early July for four nights with another family. We had four adults and three children aged between 5-7 years. We booked for three families, however one family of two adults and a child were unable to travel. The pluses were staying in a traditional Balinese villa, excellent breakfasts, helpful staff and great location.
We booked the villa given that it could accomodate our 10 people. Unfortunately there are only two designated bedrooms on two levels in the main house, only one with air conditioning. We needed to use a daybed with mosquito net for 2 children to share and another bed was needed to be made up on the floor in the room with air con for the other child. The only available space for the third family, if they had been there, would have been in two separate 1-bedroom /bathroom bungalows below the house, reached via many steps and situated on a steep bank. We feel it is really important that people understand that while the villa is advertised to accomodate 10 people, it doesn't on a practical level for families with young children needing to sleep in close proximity. Given the rate we paid per night, we feel the villa was not adequately described.
The gardens are beautiful, as is the fish pond. The kids loved seeing the turtles and feeding the fish. The pool was ok for the kids who could swim, but the jets in the spa pool did not work. Mosquito repellent cream was made available in the villa as there were many mosquitoes around the site. However, even with the repellent and the coils that were lit in the late afternoon, everyone had bites. Unfortunately, on our return, we have had 3 of us diagnosed with dengue fever. It is important that people when booking accomodation are aware of risk of bites in tropical settings, particularly in accommodation that is not completely enclosed and air conditioning unavailable throughout the entire accommodation.

superb famiyl vacation
Our family of 13 all ages were greeted at the airport by the staff fot the beginning of a exceptional vacation. The first view of the lushly planted compound, with its multiple terasses, severak koi ponds, many private spots to hide in and several sleeping cottages in addition to the main house was quite stunning. It was only later that we discovered the 6 staff members who took such good care of us. Sumptuous breakfasts of local food masterminded by the cook who produced joy on a plate. Arrangements made through them to visit local attractions were uniformly excellent. White water rafting recommended did i mention house visits by local , excellent masseuse. And then there is Ubud itself. Lots to see and explore. Lots of shopping. And the Oops bar to cool down
We have taken many family vacation over the years, this is one of the best. And for the practical, rooms immaculate, located 10 minutes easy walk fromUbud center, pools perfect for dipping lounging. A caution . even in winter it is warm

Love At First Sight
I spent a week at Villa Madu with a group of old friends. We'd been working for months to nail down a place for our reunion and, as it turned out, we could not have made a better choice! The space at the Villa is perfect for allowing for privacy when needed and also plenty of group "hangout" time. The rooms and bathrooms are spotless (and gorgeous!), the staff is amazing and the location is perfect. When you're at the Villa, you feel completely private and yet you can be in the middle of Ubud after just a few minutes walk. The food was delicious, there was a convenient (and reasonably priced) laundry that did pickup/deliver, massages were available at the Villa ... it was just fabulous! I have every intention of returning here, as soon as possible.

Paradise
My husband and I made this recent trip to Ubud as a getaway before the arrival of our baby in September. Villa Madu was the perfect backdrop for everything we could have possibly needed and wanted. The villa is surrounded by gorgeous greenery with a magical ravine down below. The rooms are decorated with beautiful artwork and the bathroom of the downstairs bedroom is amazing! You are literally taking a shower outside! The staff was more than welcoming and made me feel even more special since I am pregnant. We had fresh fruit and smoothies every morning and Nurdi, Wayan, Dewa and Jurro would regularly check in with us to see if we wanted anything else. We ate and ate and ate! In the 8 nights we were there, my husband had 2 massages that were set up for him in the serene garden at the property. I have been to Ubud many times before but this was my first time back after 16 years and although Ubud has changed tremendously and become a yoga Mecca open to tourists and shopping, Villa Madu allowed my husband and I the opportunity to enjoy what I remembered from so long ago in every comfort imaginable. I would absolutely recommend Villa Madu to anyone and everyone. Would go back in a heartbeat!

Villa Madu is the best value luxury villa in Ubud. It's also GAY FRIENDLY!
This is actually my second visit to Villa Madu. I have stayed at many villas in Ubud over the years but if I am with a group of 4 or more people, this is my absolute favourite. It is 5 mins walk to Ubud Central Post Office and Ubud Market. However, when you are within the grounds of Villa Madu you really think you could be in a beautifully manicured jungle. The view is beautiful from every room in the house and the little Joglos at the bottom of the property.
The staff were wonderful. Dewa and Wayan are always ready to help with any requests no matter what. Nurdi the wonderful cook was so happy to accommodate us with friends' sometimes odd dietary requirements.
The photos on this site don't do the villa justice. It really is a very special place with that old time bali feel but with all the modern comforts required.
I definitely recommend this place for families (modern and traditional) and for groups of friends. I'd like to have my next birthday event at the villa.

I cannot wait to go back!
I stayed at Villa Madu for about three weeks earlier this year. Although the pictures show that this villa is beautiful, it does not do it justice. It is a huge, lush property located next to a beautiful river ravine...simply stunning! The main house and cottages are beautifully appointed: they are comfortable and at the same time stylish and chic. The location is IDEAL as you can walk into the heart of Ubud in about five minutes flat. I LOVED that. In addition to all of this, the staff made my stay there easy, relaxing and fun as they take care of your every need and make you feel at home. Want a certain juice. Check. Need the best massage ever? Check. Want the best home-cooked Indonesian meal for you and a group of friends? Check. Just be prepared when you leave to have a tissue ready--you won't want to go!

Paradise.
The house is impeccably designed, the staff friendly and helpful, the nature surrounding the house, lush, tropical paradise. The ponds surrounding this beautiful home added such a sense of peacefulness, it became our favorite spot for a morning meditation, followed by a dip in the infinity pool.
The Vila is also perfectly located near town (walking distance), making it easy to stroll over and explore, as well as to set up tours for all the surrounding sites such as Kintamani, the Royal Gardens, and even Uluatu and Seminyak. One can also easily hire a driver or rent scooters to go farther exploring.
We came for our honeymoon and couldn't have imagined a more magnificent place to stay. We enjoyed this beautiful Vila as our base to explore Bali, and as a peaceful retreat way from everything. It was very hard to leave!

Fabulous!!!!!
Villa Madu was amazingly beautiful, exquisit gardens and pool area. The staff were so kind, professional yet warm and made us all feel at home also accomodated our every need. Food is some of the best I have had in Bali, I recommend staying in often for Nurdi's dinners, not just the incrediable breakfasts as she is truely accomplished, is healthy, ample, varied & beautifully presented with TLC! The villa is done with an artistic ambiance, open in door-out door living, spacious, with decking for many quiet settings. Or
lounging by the infinity pool over looking the river & gardens. Adrienne & the staff are truely gifted hosts
and make for a luxury vacation right in Ubud yet completely private. I highly recommend staying at this lovely Villa Madu. Don't feed the monkey which came looking for breakfast! It is Bali at it's best.

Perfect!
Property was even better than described. We rented entire villa ans every room was comfortable, clean and each had their own unique touches. The owner was extremely helpful with everything. She even arranged a Balinese themed birthday party for one of us, complete with live music and Balinese dancing. The dancer's at one point taught us to dance. Staff bent over backward (even though we didn't request this) to make our stay fabulous. It was very helpful to have driver to get around. He also met us at the airport which was a relief in the midst of chaos with taxi drivers descending on us for fares.
We would absolutely recommend this property! ( we peeked in some of the other places while traveling around the city and Vila Madu is the best!)

AMAZING...on so many levels!!!
Eight of us had the absolute pleasure of being Adrienne's guests in her gorgeous villa in the jungle. This ia such a uniquely beautiful and tranquil property. SETTING: It is in the jungle, open air...you hear all the animal sounds and hear the rain and feel the breeze. Yet, a short walk up the street and you are in the center of Ubud. And, if you don't feel like walking, complimentary van rides anywhere into town. PROPERTY: Architecturally exquisite. Beautiful bedrooms, bathrooms, common areas, pool, ponds, grounds and the 2 most friendly and loveable dogs. DINING: Nurdi, the head cook, is amazing, as is all the staff. Sumptuous breakfasts and snacks are complimentary and dinner can be easily arranged (for just the price of groceries). We even followed along with Nurdi to the market so she could teach us how she shops and then she showed us how to prepare an Indonesian meal with all the trimmings (our own version of a cooking class). She was infinitely patient with all our questions and was a delight. She is a role model on how to be a better, more relaxed, more adventorous cook and even more on how to be a better person! All the staff was wonderful. ADRIENNE: the owner/host --It must have been our best fortune to be at Villa Madu at the same time that Adrienne was also in Bali (she is not always there). To have had the opportunity to meet her and spend some time with her and have her answer so many of our questions about Bali and the Balinese was priceless. A better host would be impossible to find. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for 5 days in your paradise. TERIMA KASIH

Photos don't do it justice! Wonderful relaxing luxury and eco-friendly
I stayed here for 2 nights and would do it again in a heartbeat. The staff in particular are talented and obviously love their jobs... they are great cooks but then it's easy to go out for meals to downtown Ubud which is just a few minutes away. There are actually a few good places to eat just at the end of the street.
Rooms are spacious, nice and interesting furniture, lovely gardens and pool overlooking the river ravine. If you like dogs you will love the adorable pups who live in the adjacent owner's house... :)
Many of the villas I have looked at in the area are too ostentatious or are located in a too-secluded location, or worse yet, are in the middle of rice fields that they have paved to build cement buildings on! Or, some are built with inferior materials and are obviously built just for commercial use. This villa gets it just right...in tune with the local neighborhood and nature, and with expensive luxury touches that add to the ambiance. Would recommend this villa to anyone!

Perfect getaway
My best friend and I had the pleasure of staying at Villa Madu for 4 days. We wanted a peaceful, quiet and beautiful property and that's what we got. It was a perfect place for 2 city girls to come unwind and decompress (and celebrate their 30th birthdays). The photos don't do the property justice! The house, villas and property were cleaned and maintained everyday by the staff. The staff is excellent! They're all super helpful, pleasant and very friendly. The cook, Nurdi cooks unbelievable meals. She cooked us dinner a few nights and the food was always delicious. The breakfasts she cooks are amazing too. The owner, Adrienne was super helpful in answering questions. Whenever I had questions, I could count on a response in a timely manner. We couldn't have asked for a better stay. I would highly recommend Villa Madu to my family & friends and the next time I'm in Bali, I'm definitely staying here.
