About this house rental
'Shutters' is a traditionally designed house on the famous west coast of Barbados. Within 5 minutes walk of the quiet but stunning Reeds Bay (see photo), 'Shutters' has the added advantage of a private pool (18' x 12') and garden. All the rooms are spacious and airy with fitted mosquito frames (no glass windows) but the house comes with all bedrooms being fully air-conditioned for those who prefer the cold!
'Shutters' is in the village of Lower Carlton which is between Holetown to the south, and Speightstown to the north. Consequently it is within easy reach of all the fabulous bars and restaurants the west (Platinum) coast has to offer. Lower Carlton itself is a quiet, sleepy village but the Carlton Variety Store (3-4 mins walk from Shutters) offers amazing rum punch, beers and general chatting most nights with fantastic grilled fish on Thurs, Friday and Saturdays, and the famous John Moore Bar is a 8 or 10 mins walk from the house, and there are several nice little eateries within 10 minutes walk. Lower Carlton has a fishmarket which sells the most delicious (and cheap) fish, and a fruit and veg stall which sells local produce. There is also a small mini-mart. For additional shopping Bridgetown, Holetown and Speightstown are a quick bus ride away.
There are a wide variety of activities available up and down the west coast, and the wild surfing water of the east coast is about 40 minutes drive away. The house is 40 minutes from the airport.
'Shutters' is tastefully furnished and comfortable. The housekeeper will clean the house and change the bed linen and towels twice a week. The garden and pool are tended to weekly.
Inclusive in the rental fee is the Mandatory Shared Levy Fee which paid onto the Barbados revenue Authority at 10%

Shutters is an all-around incredible place for a family holiday. It is located in a typical Bajan neighborhood that is verdant and is surrounded by friendly people and animal life. Test it is also extremely private for a self-contained stay, with expansive property envelope, swimming pool, and large balcony and patio area for ultimate relaxation. Best of all, it is only 5 minutes walk from Reeds Bay Beach, which is beautiful and never too crowded. Both Jackie and Eudora the housekeeper are very easy to communicate with, and the house is amply stocked for cooking. One very slight suggestion would be to leave enough toilet tissue on hand for a 1-week stay, since it is a little difficult to replenish this item in the immediate neighborhood. But overall, we couldn’t have asked for more in a vacation rental. Bravo!

2 weeks in beautiful Barbados. Shutters Villa is a short 5 minute walk to one of the best beaches on the West Coast. We wanted a place close to Speightstown as we are scuba divers and dive with Reefers and Wreckers who are excellent! The bedrooms are all air conditioned and the Villa is well equipped for guests. Beds comfortable. As it is in an area that is not just hotels and apartments, there is plenty of local ‘wildlife’ to keep you entertained from goats to chickens to monkeys. Everyone is super friendly and there is a convenience store next door. Local restaurants are a short walk or drive away. If you are a light sleeper you may need ear plugs as the roosters like to tell everyone to wake up quite early. I would recommend this Villa to families or groups of friends as there is plenty of space. Lots of hangers in the wardrobes too!
One small ‘criticism’ is that you won’t have access to the tumble dryer as it is only accessible to the housekeeper who comes in twice each week. With the tropical climate it rains regularly and it was a challenge to dry enough towels after a day at the beach when they needed a wash, or if clean ones were left out to dry, they got wet.
We enjoyed evenings on the covered patio or in the living room playing board and card games and the variety store at the bottom of the road has an excellent food option on Friday and Saturday nights. We also love The Fish Pot if you want something a little fancier with excellen food and not too expensi

Shutters is a gorgeous house. Once you get there you won't want to leave!
Booking with Jackie makes it even better. Communication is clear, she provides you with all the information you will need to enjoy the house and the neighbourhood.
We are frequent visitors to the Bim and we will definitely rent Shutters again.
Thanks for everything Jackie!

Great Home, Ideal Location!
Shutters was a wonderful home. It was the perfect place to stay for our party of 6 people. My adult kids enjoyed the pool when we were not at one of the local beaches or touring the island. The location is ideal with a short drive into Holetown.

A wonderful visit
Shutters is a beautiful villa on a beautiful island. The villa is located nicely with a short 5 minute walk to ‘Simone’s Beach’ where you can reasonably priced sun beds, umbrellas, drinks and excellent home cooked food. Not to mention a fabulous warm welcome. A short drive to Holetown where you can find a good mix of bars, restaurants and shops. The villa itself was spotlessly clean with comfortable beds and pillows. The kitchen was well equipped. Beautiful view of the sunset over the sea from the upstairs balcony.
This was our first visit to Barbados, we will definitely be coming back and would be more than happy to stay at Shutters again.

Wonderful
We an adult family of 7 spent two weeks at Shutters. We have stayed all over the West coast of the island over the years and would definitely return to Shutters. The villa was very well equipped for all our needs, including little things like cool bags. Due to its location , 5 mins up the hill, we found it much quieter as its off the main highway. Also you get a lovely breeze through the house, so we found we didn,t need to use the a/c at night as the fans were sufficient which we preferred. Communication with property owner and housekeeper was excellent.. I would highly recommend Shutters if you are looking for a villa in a good neighbourhood with the best beach on the island 5 minutes on foot down the hill.

Amazing villa
We just returned from an amazing family holiday at Shutters, it is situated in a residential area away from the busy tourist areas enabling you to experience the real Barbados, there is a lovely beach a couple of minutes walk away, where we spent many an evening watching the beautiful sunset. We were greeted by the lovely Eudora on arrival who was always very helpful. The house is very light, airy and spacious, it is well equipped and maintained and very clean. The garden is also very large and well maintained by the bubbly Kathy. The people of Barbados are extremely friendly, warm and welcoming, there are many lovely places to eat locally including Jefferson’s at the bottom of the road or a bit further away something a little upmarket Lone star garage was lovely, some of the family went to The Cliff - which they said was amazing.A highlight of the holiday was snorkelling with the turtles and over a shipwreck, surfing on the south coast, horse riding along the beach on the East coast and watching England versus The West Indies at Kensington oval. The whole holiday was breathtaking and memorable. Jackie the owner is so helpful and friendly, so easy to deal with. Thank you Jackie

Gorgeous house!
We just returned from our visit to Barbados, Shutters was absolutely perfect! The house was beautiful and well maintained by the housekeeper Eudora who was very helpful throughout our entire stay. We were in the perfect location to enjoy the beach and easily get to town for shopping and food. Our kids loved having the pool out back and can not wait to visit again next year, the house had everything we needed and Jackie was a pleasure to work with and very accommodating! We will definitely be returning to Shutters!

Shutters is a fantastic
Shutters was wonderful, well equipped and kept clean by the lovely Eudora. Near beautiful beaches, especially Reeds Bay which is just down the road. A five minute drive into HOLETOWN with a supermarket, shops and some great restaurants . If you can go to Surfside on a Sunday night to listen to a steel band, Oistens on Friday and although slightly more expensive Lone Star Garage restaurant is a must. Would recommend Huntes Garden ,Wildlife Reserve and the Animal flower cave. A great villa in a great location, we will defiantly be back soon. The Bristol Chinnock’s. Thank you to Jenni and Fi x

Shutters...exactly what we were looking for!
Shutters was the perfect place for our group of 7 to stay! Eudora was there to greet us as we came up the front steps. The house was exactly what we were hoping for...large bedrooms, ample washrooms, great yard and amenities! Although we had been to Barbados many times in the past, we had never stayed on the West coast before. It did not disappoint! The kids loved the pool...I am sure our 12 year old would have slept in it if we let him! It was great to have Wi-Fi for our 16 year old too! Perfect house for a larger group. Roosters take a little getting used to but after a few nights, we didn't notice them! Jefferson down the street is wonderful and we would definitely recommend going to eat there...food is incredible. I would recommend this house to families who want to stay together, but still enjoy having a bit of space to rest and relax. We hope to be back one day! Thank you Jennifer and Eudora for everything!

Home from Home in the Sun!
Shutters is a real home from home with everything you could possibly need, kept spotless by the housekeeper and gardener. Great location to explore the island from with the best beach in Reeds Bay at the bottom of the road - an early morning swim is a perfect start to each day! We loved Huntes Gardens, Crane beach including lunch at the hotel, Bathsheba, North Point Flower caves and the Fishpot at Little Good Harbour. Would highly recommend Shutters and will definitely be returning.

A great house for a family trip
A lovely house close to the beach and Holetown. The house has everything you will need and the pool and garden is great place to relax. The neighbors are very friendly and easy going. I would bring some ear plugs as the wildlife gets up early and could wake you if you are a light sleeper.
Jennifer the owner is very easy to deal with and was a great host.

Perfect Vacation Rental for Barbados!!!
Anyone looking for a comfortable, spacious, relaxing, beautiful place needs to stay here!! From the moment I started talking to Jennifer, she was extremely helpful. She is very quick to respond, and will help make your stay perfect.
The beach is just down the road, and it’s a hidden gem. Great beach for snorkeling, but not crowded. The bus stops are super close, so to get to Holden or Speightstown is super easy. There is a mini mart at the bottom of the hill where you can get snacks and drinks, and I would highly recommend eating at the grill on Friday or Saturday night. It was far better than the restaurant that is close by.
The pool was so nice to have if you don’t feel like getting sandy, plus the outdoor shower for cleaning off if you do go to the beach! Lots of seating area outside and I loved waking up and sitting on the chairs on the balcony reading a book! The AC is strong in the rooms and with the shutters closed it stays dark inside, so set an alarm if you want to wake up early! You may hear animals in the morning though, so just bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.
Eudora the house cleaner is so kind, and does a great and thorough cleaning job! She made sure we had everything we needed and was very accommodating for our checkout time.
This comfortably fit 3 adult couples, but we could have easily had another couple with no problem and not felt cramped.
I HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who wants a relaxing vacation, with easy access getting around and exploring with or without a car.
Thanks again Jennifer, we can’t wait to come back again soon!

The house was in a neighborhood near a great beach
The house was as advertised. The owner was most helpful and the housekeeper was great. The house was clean and well cared for. It was in a local neighborhood about 400 yards from a great beach. It was near 2 restaurant and a bar within walking distance. Holetown was convenient by car or local bus. it would be great to stay on the beach but the price reflects its location and proximity to the beach. I would recommend forum to three couples or a family.

Wonderful Shutters!
What a wonderful holiday! Shutters is a beautiful, comfortable HOME. We have stayed in many self-catering places but never felt as 'at home' as at Shutters! The whole experience from booking with you to leaving the property 😢 was exemplary. Eudora, Kathy and the Pool Guys were all fantastic. Eudora went out of her way to arrange a taxi back to the airport. She is a gem ❤️ The house, gardens and pool were immaculate, everything we could've possibly needed!
Fresh Tuna from the fish market. Watching the sunset from John Moore's bar. 'Reggae Bus' to Jordan's Supermarket in Speightstown and taxi back. Dinner at Jefferson's (Pigtails!). LOVED your pool and sitting outside on the terrace and the balcony ❤️. Our favourite beach in Barbados has irrevocably changed from Gibbs Beach to Reeds Bay...breathtaking!!! Amazing snorkelling! All the community could not have been friendlier!!
All in all, ticked ALL the boxes for a much needed holiday Jen. Thank you and your family for making your wonderful home in the sun accessible for others. I would not hesitate to recommend and we would love to return some day soon. Just Heaven! 😊

No words to describe this place
This place literally took my breath away. Came here as a group of 4 women and we fell in love with Barbados & with Shutters. Everyone was so welcoming from the start & the local people went out of their way to be friendly. Loved the reggae buses, Speitstown was a favourite place & Jeffersons an absolute treasure. It was a holiday to treasure & we've got some lovely memories. A boat trip with Michael was superb as was a local picnic we were lucky enough to be invited to. Thank you Jen for aLloyd the help & advice prior to going & for providing such a lovely holiday home. I for one will be back 😄

Fab place, fab island and fab people
Shutters is a lovely family sized house. Comes with everything a holiday let should have so no need to worry about taking extra bits. The garden and pool was a great size too. It's location is spot on within easy reach is the beach just five minutes walk down the road and also the bus route with Holetown and Speightown a short ride away. The neighbours are very welcoming and the karaoke bar next door great fun on a Saturday night. Plenty of local places to eat at good prices. Will definitely be back hopefully very soon. Many thanks Jenny.

Excellent house!!
We have stopped on the island many times and rented various properties, that said, Shutters is a great example of how it should be done.
A great location, well appointed with everything you will need, crockery, pots etc even games, snorkels, cool bags, a well used Boules game, two large fridge freezers, even loads of beach towels.
That might seem normal but I have lost count of the times I have had to search for a bottle opener in other places, and in Barbados that is a nightmare!
Four large bedrooms, three lovely bathrooms, a decent sized pool, the list goes on. A perfect property well placed 10 mins drive to both Holetown and Speightstown.
The cleaner, Gardener and poolman all very friendly and helpful, got some Mango's from the man next door as well after we got speaking to him about the Green Monkeys stealing them from his tree!
Jen also made the booking itself so easy, always answered mails promptly and made us feel relaxed about everything.
I could write loads about the whole experience but enough to say that it is exactly as described on the website and we would definitely go back!
Thanks for all your help Jen, you have a lovely place, a gem.

100% perfect weather
The people of Barbados are friendly, kind, generous and welcoming and we enjoyed meeting the people in the community the most. We definitely would go back and would recommend Shutters for two or three couples, two families with children or one large family as there are four bedroom and three bathrooms. The property was a good fit for us as we were two couples and one had the upstairs bedroom and the other the downstairs bedroom so we had lots of space and privacy. We had a super day on the water with a company called Just Chilling. Ian and Romeo picked us up at Reeds beach and we went snorkelling with the turtles and over a sunken wreck. They also provided beer and toured us along the west coast highlighting significant places.
We took the yellow bus to Oistins for the Friday night fish fry. It was a long ride but it was also an opportunity to view the Island. Sunday Mass at the open window church of St. Francis was a glorious celebration as the singing and wind and waves all blended harmoniously. We loved the fresh fish from the local fish market and tried black snapper and amber jack. Watching their skills as they prepare it for you is fun and Natalie was great to visit with. Jefferson's restaurant,/store,/ bar is a must and I had the king fish there. We went to Surfside restaurant the first night by taxi which cost the four of us $30 US return but went a second time on the bus for $8 return. Once you learn your way around it is easier. Cory at the beach will set you up with beach chairs and beer and he is a wonderfully kind fellow. Getting used to the dogs and roosters and chickens wandering aimlessly was part of the fun. Sonia the property manager is a real gem as she is knowledgeable, patient and personable. The cleaning lady, gardener and pool cleaner were all professional and helpful. Working with Jennifer setting up our holiday was top notch as she respectfully answered every detailed inquiry and was extremely accommodating. The customer service was like the weather 100% sunshine.

We fell in love with Barbados!!
A wonderful holiday with the friendliest locals. A holiday of discovery in our mini moke, amazing beeches and just a lovely opportunity to let a holiday evolve and see what each day holds. Great local fish market and the local beech to ourselves! Would highly recommend it and can't wait to go back as there is still so much we would like to do and see. Thank you Jennifer for looking after us and for your recommendations, and for also arranging a lovely welcome for us when our flight was delayed. We can't wait to go back!
