The neighborhood
Magnolia is a small section of Gloucester bordering Manchester-by-the-sea. This is the quiet, less touristy area of Gloucester. Facing southwest you can see the Boston skyline. There is a variety store a 1 minute walk from the house for limited groceries, ice cream, beer and wine. Lexington Avenue is a block away and has cute shops, post office, salon, a few restaurants and a Dunkin Donuts. The pier off of Shore Rd is a iconic Magnoila spot. You can take a swim off the float or jump from the pier if you dare (recommended only at mid tide or higher!) or just watch the local kids adventurous choices of launching themselves into the water:) This house is also close to many of the finest beaches on the northshore- Crane's, Plumb Island, Long Beach, Good Harbor, Wingersheek.... Check out the Gloucester Guidebook for all kinds of great things to do and places to eat.
Magnolia Beach is steps from the house. This beach is public/private. The Gloucester side is public (feel free to go with chairs and coolers) and the Manchester-by-the-Sea side is private (feel free to walk the beach but there is no beach parking). Also, no dogs are allowed on the beach during the summer.
Getting around
There is the CATA bus that goes all around Cape Ann, and the Commuter Rail (Train) has stops in Gloucester or Rockport and taking the train into Boston is easy.

Thanks for accommodating our family

The home was clean, comfortable and spacious enough for our extended family to come and go during our three-week stay. The Magnolia neighborhood is beautiful and quiet, and we will certainly consider staying again next summer.

Stayed here while in town for a friend's wedding on the beach, and it was exactly what we needed. Very cozy house with basic necessities, and Paul was great with communication. If you're looking for something fancy, stay at the Beauport Hotel, but if you are looking for great access to Magnolia beach and the cute shops on Lexington Ave, then definitely stay here.

I tripped, on absolutely nothing, within minutes of arriving at this beautiful home, and broke my arm (badly!!). My brother had to drive me to the emergency room before we could even unpack the car. Side note: the ER at Addison Gilbert took incredible care of me and it was such a relief to be able to access care quickly.
It's a testament to this incredible property that we would all stay here again, without hesitation, even if it means revisiting the scene of my injury. We were four adults, one preschooler, and two dogs and felt like we had tons of room to spare. Highlights include: a fully fenced in yard for the dogs, very comfortable beds with quality bedding and pillows, sunset and ocean views from the enclosed porch, ample seating areas, lots of storage in every bedroom, easy walk to the beach and cute shops, and quiet streets.
I spent most of our trip sitting inside but my family appreciated the short drives to Rockport and Gloucester for beaches and food.

The house was clean with adequate kitchen utensils and barbecue grill. Great location across the street from the beach where we could use our kayak and paddle boards. A convenience store is also next door with a good selection of wine and beer. Not far from Gloucester where we went on a whale watch and visited the Maritime Museum & Aquarium. We also went to Singing Beach at Manchester- by- the-Sea. During the week we had no trouble parking ($30/car cash). Friday and weekends it might be a problem parking since there are limited spaces for non-residents. Landlords responded rapidly to email inquiries.

Quiet and Peaceful Location near Beach
Our overall impression of this property was favorable. The location was very nice, in a quiet neighborhood that was great for walking, and very close to a beach at Magnolia harbor. While we went to this beach a couple of times, it was relatively small, so we more routinely went to a couple of other local beaches (Singing Beach, and Good Harbor Beach) that were larger and on the owner's recommended places to go. The fenced-in yard and neighborhood was great for walking our daughter's dog, and having a convenience store and restaurant within short walking distance away was very convienent. The house itself had plenty of sleeping space and the rooms were well appointed. One issue we had with the house was that the bathtub/shower didn't drain properly, which was addressed and fixed in a timely manner by Paul (the owner) when we raised this to him. Another was that toward the end of our stay the top of the front door would stick (likely due to seasonal humidity). We thought that the instructions provided by Paul for check-in and check-out as well as information on the house, and local attractions were very detailed and thorough.

Quiet getaway
The cottage was exactly what we were looking for. Located across the street from the beach, the breeze was perfect to keep it comfortable during the hottest days. We had plenty of room to relax and read a book. Kayaking in the bay was easy and also found several hiking trails close by. And the sunsets were terrific.

True Classic Beach Cottage Ambiance
Peaceful, restful place. Dining on picnic table looking at the water is wonderful. Bath and kitchen nicely updated. Spacious kitchen. Interior is fresh painted and inviting. Hard to get motivated to leave to go to the beach for the day. Owners very responsive. Would stay here again.

Our summer retreat
We enjoyed your home very much and was able to relax and reenergize. We enjoyed the kitchen area and appreciated the good appliances and openness of the room. The porch was a nice way to stay cool and enjoy views of the beach. Have you considered running the kitchen flooring into the porch ?
The bedrooms were a great size with plenty of storage room for clothes. The fans in each bedroom circulated the summer night air beautifully. My only suggestion for the bedrooms is to perhaps invest in better mattresses .
We would love to return for another visit at a future date.
Cheers, Charlie and Ross

Wonderful location, house and hosts
Beach rentals can be kind of a mixed bag. Happy to say this one was exactly as advertised. Our teens enjoyed the top floor and our dog loved the yard. There were lots of kitchen tools, pots and pans and plenty of towels.

Wonderful Visit
My friend and I gathered with my two children in Magnolia for a happy week in early August. We loved the house, on a quiet side street with a water view, but close to activities. We loved the beaches all just minutes away. My friend and I were transfixed by the Cape Ann Museum. Memorable lunches overlooking Gloucester Harbor. Don’t miss 7 Seas Whale Watch. Or brunch around the corner at the Corner Cafe. The house absorbed 10 of us easily. Pleasant conversations with gracious landlord. We loved it all.

Great Family Stay in Magnolia!
My family and I stayed in the cottage for my parent's wedding anniversary. We had a group of 10 including two young kids and a bunch of adults. We had a wonderful time! Checkin was extremely easy. The cottage was very clean and exactly as advertised. Kate and Paul were great hosts. We were left pretty much to our own devices but anytime we had a question responses were very quick and helpful. The cottage is located very close to Magnolia beach and it is a very easy 3 minute walk to be on the beach. We took advantage of that every day. The yard was great for the kids to play in and for the adults to relax in while taking in the ocean views and sounds. Magnolia is a great community and has a lovely center with a couple of restaurants and cafes. We had an amazing time and came away very relaxed. Thanks for a great stay!

"A little slice of heaven"
We recently rented the Magnolia Ocean View and had a wonderful time at the cottage. There was plenty of room for for all ten of us to spread out in the cottage and the rooms were well appointed with linens, blankets and reading lights!! The kitchen is large enough to have multiple people working in the space at the same time. We also enjoyed the over-sized picnic table in the back yard that could accommodate all of us easily at mealtime. The little town of Magnolia is very quaint and we took many walks to explore the neighborhood along with the beach area. The host, Paul and Kate along with Juliette and George are very friendly as well as being very accommodating. What a great way to say goodbye to summer. Thinking about next summer already.......

Fantastic family beach cottage
We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful beachside cottage. Well appointed, interior design fits the local environment perfectly and adds a warm touch to your stay in this home away from home. Plenty of space for everyone, whether a family, extended family or friends.

Perfect family beach vacation!
The worst part about staying at the Magnolia House is that you'll have trouble adjusting to reality after you leave!
I family and I had an amazing experience at this vacation rental. The house is spacious, newly remodeled, and the kitchen great for cooking and gathering in. The beach is a short walk from the house, and was beautiful when we were there without too much seaweed. Paul and Kate are welcoming and extremely friendly, even loaning us beach toys for the kids and helping us with an electronic charging issue! We are looking forward to having them put in the laundry hook up, because that would be super helpful. I also loved how friendly the neighbors were! Highly recommend.

My family was very comfortable in this home. It is beautifully decorated and very clean. I love ha
The owners were very helpful and accommodating, our family of five were very comfortable in this home. It had everything we needed in the kitchen and it was great not to have to bring our own sheets and towels. Great walks with beautiful views. Everyone in the area were very friendly. My teenage girls enjoyed the extra room in the attic with their own tv. All the beaches are close by and the restaurants around the corner were good. I would reccommend this rental and would return!
