About this cottage rental
"There's a crazy little shack beyond the tracks
And everybody calls it the Sugar Shack"
- Sugar Shack lyrics
- Jimmy Glimer and The Fireballs
This recently restored, farmhouse style cottage, affectionately known as the Sugar Shack, is a one of a kind find in the heart of Downtown Franklin. Originally a railroad section house built in the early 1900's, it's had it's share of colorful history. It was once lived in by a woman named Beulah who sold moonshine durning prohibition. Small bottles and a funnel found under the house attest to the stories.
For visitors seeking the ideal escape, the Sugar Shack provides an opportunity to stay in a piece of history while enjoying every modern luxury and convenience. The recipient of a 2017 Award of Merit from the Heritage Foundation of Franklin and Williamson County, this cottage was designed with cozy spaces, vaulted ceilings, luxe furnishings and spa like bath amenities for the ultimate retreat. The gourmet kitchen is every cook's dream with state of the art appliances, five burner gas stove, pot filler faucet and oversized farm sink and quartz countertops.
Every detail has been meticulously considered, including the floors which are made of reclaimed elm from a threshing mill. A brick fireplace was found hidden inside the walls and has been exposed and reassembled to create a new gas fireplace and the wall above it is faced with the poplar wood from the original sub flooring of the house. The original wood siding of the house was milled and used as an accent wall in the kitchen.
The property also has an amazing outdoor space that features two cedar porches with a custom made swing and seating, a designer gas fire pit with surround seating and a beautifully landscaped yard with pea gravel paths.
Best suited for two adults due to the high end details fixtures and furnishings, this property is ideal for a romantic retreat, honeymoon or place of solace for the creative Artist. Although we love and have animals, absolutely no pets allowed at this special retreat. Created as a magical place for the owner's friends and family to enjoy, the Sugar Shack is a home for food, wine, great conversation and a place to make music, art and memories.
Located a few short blocks from Historic, Downtown Franklin, Sugar Shack is within 5 minute walking distance to charming shops, restaurants, theatre, music venues and historic sites.
Situated in the historical overlay of Downtown Franklin, the Sugar Shack is tucked away behind an older blue Victorian house next to the railroad tracks and a stones throw from the Harpeth River. With romance in the air, you will feel like you are going back in time to enjoy the occasional train passing through town, just like those that lived here during the Civil War when it was a railroad section house.
Sugar Shack is also available for intimate events (additional fees may apply).

Can’t say enough about Sugar Shack! From the moment we walked in we were greeted with wine, cheese and other snacks and just the most relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. The outdoors is as beautiful as the indoors. Easy walk to downtown and is even better than the pictures. We can’t wait to come back.

The Sugar Shack is our favorite! Everything was lovely as usual making us feel right at home from the moment we walk in. Harrison is always updating things so no matter how many times we stay here, there is always a new detail with fresh flowers, bedding, outdoor landscape and decor…she is the best host! The location is so convenient too making it easy to walk to the downtown area or take a short drive to other great restaurants, activities and popular areas. The Sugar Shack is the best!

Upon our first impressions were, well done! The style of the house, the cleanliness, as well as the amenities were excellent. My wife and I initially thought down town square was further than advertised, but we were mistaken… it was a very short walk to the heart of the square. Very much enjoyed our stay, and wouldn’t hesitate to book with them again.

Visit Franklin to get a way for an extra-long weekend. Enjoyed the Downtown shopping, restaurants and visited Civil War Historic sites and Tours. Everything far exceeded our expectations. House is very clean, well appointed, and conveniently located to downtown. We really enjoyed this property and would highly recommend.

This is our third visit to the Sugar Shack, we enjoy the short walk to shops and restaurants, the privacy of the outdoor space and the home is the perfect size for the two of us.

What an absolutely beautiful cottage - in the heart of Franklin and yet tucked away, surrounded by enchanting garden spots, outdoor seating for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine (provided as a welcoming gift along with a delicious charcuterie plate and chocolates!), and a divine porch with the perfect swing for an afternoon nap. The inside is equally lovely, welcoming, and serene, with beautiful artwork, perfect furniture pieces, and delightful touches everywhere. There also is every possible modern amenity and convenience. It was hard to leave! I am looking forward to my next visit. Thank you, Harrison!!!

Both my husband and I said this was the best B&B we have ever stayed in. The Sugar Shack is located just on the edge of the Franklin historic district, and you can easily walk to the town center for shopping and restaurants. The house itself is so comfortable and homey and has so much charm.
There are three different outside areas to use depending on time of day all with lovely landscaping. The whole house was so clean and well furnished. We didn't cook much on this trip but kitchen was well stocked for most meal prep. For coffee and tea lovers, there are an electric kettle, regular kettle, drip coffee maker, espresso machine and french press along with a large selection of coffees and teas. The owner very nicely left us some goodies including a yummy coffee cake.
The house has three large rooms-kitchen with dining area that includes a utility room and half bath; large bedroom with huge bathroom (shower and a tub); and a nice size living room w/ TV.
I would definitely recommend staying here!

We can’t get enough of this property. From the painstaking detail of the landscaping to the beautiful and easy to use kitchen, my wife and I love staying here. This was our second stay and it was several days longer than the first, but upon leaving I still wished we could stay another week at least! It is obvious how much the property means to the owner, and it is always great to see how gracious of a host Harrison is. The house was super clean, everything worked as advertised, and we enjoyed a wonderful quiet stay. As we were walking out the door we were already discussing our next stay at the Sugar Shack! I can’t wait!

We loved our stay at the Sugar Shack! It was our first time to Franklin, and the location on the edge of the historic district was perfect. Nestled along the railroad tracks and a river, and with mature evergreen landscaping and fencing, it was very private. The decor and furnishings in the cottage were beautiful and magazine-ready. The gardens around the cottage were well-maintained and the porches were furnished and ready for dinner or lounging. The cottage was full of details to make our stay more comfortable, including great furniture, linens, toiletries, and there were some very welcome treats, coffees, teas, and fresh flowers. Having the extra half bathroom was a bonus. The porch swing was a dreamy place to relax after exploring the city and curl up with one of many fabulous books stacked around the house. The train is very close to the house, but only came by once during the day and once in the night. The horn announcing its arrival was extremely loud, but there was something charming about it as well. The cottage is walking distance from downtown Franklin’s many shops and restaurants, 2-3 blocks on level, well-maintained sidewalk with beautiful homes along the entire route. We highly recommend the Sugar Shack and we would come back in a heartbeat!

I trust the Sugar Shack for all of my out of town friends or family wanting a break and some alone time. Harrison has curated every detail to ensure her guests feel welcome to enjoy this lush, cozy, inviting downtown Franklin retreat during their stay. Thank you, Harrison! xoxo

Harrison and John have created a lovely place to relax and recharge. As soon as we walked in the door I knew we had found something special. We arrived after dark to wine, cheese and fruit and a welcoming card from Harrison featuring her own artwork. We enjoyed seeing her paintings in several rooms.
We had a bit of trouble getting the fireplace going and upon calling Harrison she promptly sent out a handyman and John to fix it. We so appreciated the fireplace in the mornings and evenings.
Walking into Franklin downtown made this location perfect for us. The train passing through was rather enjoyable and reminiscent of home as we live several blocks from the railroad. We enjoyed learning a bit of the history of the home.
Add us to the list of reviewers who indicated they would like to return to the Sugar Shack. For the hospitality, the lovely environment and the city of Franklin. It was great!

The best VRBO you could find. Franklin is an adorable small southern town and the cottage is a 5 minute walk away. The house has everything waiting for you: cheese platter, crackers, wine, chocolates, coffee cake, fruit. There are spices, coffees and teas with half and half in the fridge.
Comfy beds and personal care products to indulge yourself. The gas fireplace and fire pit are extra gems.
Nashville is a 20 minute drive. Don’t miss Fox & Locke for music & southern fare and The Listening Room’s small venue for country music sung by the song writers.

This was our second time to stay at the Sugar Shack and it does not disappoint. The shack is so homey, and well stocked. We enjoyed walking to the shops and restaurants and enjoyed sitting out by the fire pit after dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend and are leaving very relaxed and looking forward to our next visit to the Sugar Shack! Thanks Harrison!

This was our 4th stay. We adore staying at the Sugar Shack. It is comfortable, cozy and feels like our home away from home. From sitting by the fire, to reading on the outside porch swing, to cooking in the kitchen, all so warm & inviting. Harrison who owns the home goes above and beyond to ensure your stay is one for your memory. No doubt we will be back! Thanks so much Harrison.

I knew this was going to be a great place for us but didn’t realize that I would feel like I was at home. Harrison went over the top to make us feel welcome, nothing was left to doubt. I really enjoyed reading about the history of “Sugar Shack “ in Home Stories setting on the trunk in front of the sofa. Didn’t realize that Harrison was an artist and painted most of the pictures in Sugar Shack. This was a rare find and would highly recommend staying here. Will definitely recommend to my friends! Thanks again Harrison. I guess painting is your passion and maybe this is your calling also.

Properties like this restore my faith in the VRBO/ABB platform. It's been dreary out there and this is a diamond in the rough. Perfect for couples.

This is the first time I have stayed at VRBO property that exceeded expectations! The photos do not due justice to the warmth of the home, thoughtful touches of convenience, or the grace of the host.
Put the Sugar Shack on your ‘must stay’ list if you are visiting Nashville/ Franklin.

My Mom & I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at #sugarshackfranklin. The updates of this home while still maintaining original charm & the attention to detail was very impressive. The kitchen was fully equipped with any appliance you may need & we found the kitchen to be more spacious than it appeared in photos. The cozy indoor gas fireplace & outdoor gas fire pit allowed for relaxing mornings & evenings with the nice Fall weather. The location was ideal & an easy walk to Main Street, yet conveniently located to the interstate for navigating to other areas. This is beyond a 5 star property & we thank the host for being so accommodating with welcome treats to allow us to feel right at home. We will definitely be back!

Wow! What a incredible find! Don’t hesitate….book it! I’m extremely picky and this beautiful cottage is a 10 out of 10. The attention to detail at every turn was so inviting and made us feel so welcomed. From the welcome bottle of wine to all the little goodies to the fresh flowers …you will be spoiled! Harrison is a perfect host and very accommodating! Don’t hesitate on this rare find…. The only problem is, you’ll be sad to leave!

We stayed at the Sugar Shack in June while I was in town for a workshop and loved it so much that we decided to come back to celebrate our anniversary. Harrison is such a gracious host and includes so many welcoming touches. The Sugar Shack is in a great location for exploring Franklin but be sure to reserve time for just relaxing on the porch. We can’t wait to come back!

This house had a vintage farmhouse appeal with all the modern updates. It was very warm and welcoming with a beautiful, private outdoor area as well. We also enjoyed the generous welcome package our host Harrison left for us.

I see why the Sugar Shack has constant 5 star reviews..because it deserves it! We were blown away by this adorable little “shack” by the tracks. The house itself is welcoming and decorated so well, you instantly feel comfortable and relaxed. There are so many things that need mentioning…the wonderful smell of the house upon entering, the sweet welcoming card, the cheese board and wine, the pumpkin muffins and coffee, the comfortable beds, the fresh flowers everywhere, everything was very clean and kitchen well stocked. The outdoor fire pit was so very relaxing. We sat outside most of the time in the outdoor swing or by the fire pit. The house is so close to the shops and restaurants, you can walk everywhere and there are sidewalks so no walking in the street. I’m checking my calendar to book my next stay!

Simply put, it’s a big step above the rest of the offerings in the area and worth every penny. It was my bride’s birthday and our anniversary weekend and the Sugar Shack was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy ourselves. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed morning coffee on the side porch looking out over an immaculately manicured and lawn. The evenings were just as nice with the firepit going providing a tranquil ambiance. So many little nice, thoughtful touches that make a stay special.
Great history in this house and in several on the same street. Worth the stroll to venture down the just a few minutes to Biscuit Love. If its your first time or just another visit to Franklin and the Nashville area, this is THE place to stay.

Highly recommend!

My wife and I stayed at this beautiful property for a quick getaway for our anniversary. The property was beyond expectation. The owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We arrived to a lemon bundt cake and cheese tray. The kitchen was wonderfully stocked. The home itself was very comfortable and beautifully restored. I would recommend this property to anyone and we will likely try to stay here again.

We wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Franklin but the Sugar Shack! Harrison is the best host and makes sure your stay is perfect always leaving us special treats and fresh flowers arranged around the house. We always feel at home here and love just hanging out at the house and cozy porches surrounded by beautiful landscape. The location is perfect to either walk to town to all the shops and restaurants or take a drive to surrounding areas. Our only complaint is our stay is never long enough!

Just had a wonderful 4 night stay at the Sugar Shack. Harrison has lovingly restored a railroad building to a beautiful, farm chic hideaway. Harrison is a gracious host, who gave my husband and I sweet anniversary touches. This cottage is right next to a railroad track, but that was actually a lot of fun. The train only came by around midnight each night during the week and yes, it sounded its horn, but we looked forward to it and would run outside onto the porch to watch it pass. The cottage is at the front of Old Town Franklin, so an easy walk to the restaurants and shops. Also, only 24 minutes to Nashville. We highly recommend staying here, you will love it. Thank You Harrison!

LOVE this property. Perfect for a couples getaway. Clean, beautiful, very high end accommodations. My favorites were the porch swing, claw foot tub, and kitchen. Host could not be kinder or more accommodating. Walking into Franklin town center was easy. Don’t miss Biscuit Love and 55 South for yummy meals. Make a reservation at Culaccino . . . The best! We ate there twice!
