About this house rental
Book this top-notch riverfront home for your next escape. Ideally located just beyond the
wind and fog belt of the coast yet before the inland heat. You will love this retreat spot with sun and shade on multiple outdoor living areas. We've just finished an overhaul on the retreat. New paint in and out, detailed and hand rubbed Tung oil into exposed beam ceilings along with many other improvements. The home has never looked or felt better! We've thought of everything to make your stay a pleasure and continuously upgrade our amenities. Enjoy the Weber propane BBQ grill, with a full backup tank always under the deck. Just one mile from Monte Rio, you'll be in the heart of all the fun. After a day of exploring, touring, or relaxing by the beautiful river, return to the comfort and amenities of home. Pictures can't capture the stunning setting, and spirit of this land.
This area showcases the best of northern California, with breathtaking coastal bluffs, beaches, wineries, distinctive restaurants, unique shops, spas, the river, and incredible state parks all nearby and convenient. It’s the perfect getaway from the city. We offer early check-in or late check-out upon request for no additional fee, when available.
Thoughtfully designed, well-equipped, and full of character, this vacation home will capture your heart. Our guests all agree. The well-appointed kitchen features granite counters and all the spices, cookware, wine glasses, and matching place settings you need. An open floor plan with beautiful bamboo floors, exposed wood beam ceilings, and a glass wall overlooking the river creates a delightful gathering spot. Enjoy a fire with the wood we provide for the wood stove. We also offer wireless DSL high-speed internet. Our idyllic micro-climate provides moderate temperatures in both summer and winter, keeping us close enough to the coast for nature’s moderating effect yet inland enough to avoid the fog and cold winds.
Imagine lounging on the redwood deck, soaking in the hot tub while watching life float by on the river and the birds gliding above. Read a book or cuddle next to the wood-burning stove. Nestled among giant Redwoods and overlooking the beautiful Russian River, you can meander down to the lower tier and private floating dock—a favorite fishing spot for otters, ospreys, and great blue herons among other wildlife.
The peaceful Russian River is clear, cool, and inviting. A canoe, two kayaks, and life vests are provided for you to explore this natural wonderland. A gorgeous ten-minute drive along the Russian River towards the coast brings you to Jenner and River’s End, where you can experience the best of California at nearby sightseeing attractions, charming towns, and beautiful parks. In the summer, the river is a popular swimming and festival spot for San Franciscans. In the winter, the Pacific keeps the climate mild, perfect for whale watching.
This is California's premier wine country, with many top vineyard tours in close proximity. You may want to move here once you visit. We provide a map of stunning, lesser-known scenic drives to the coast, where you can walk the beaches with sea lions, watch for whales, or surf. The landmark Sonoma Coast State Park and Goat Rock are at the mouth of the river, where you can walk the beach and visit the sea lions that usually lounge where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean.

Property was just perfect for our multi-generational family get-together. Nice location - right on the river. Kids had a great time using the kayaks and canoe. Property owner couldn't have been more accommodating! 5 stars!

We were 4 adults. The view was fabulous we loved watching birds fly past huge window facing river and redwoods. The downsrairs a special treat. We were a couple and three singles so the privacy was appreciated the hot tub was very nice too. Wish the bbq was charcol but thats rare thse days. Big hit was the cliseness to our favorite beach at Patterson point. Only drawback was not easily accessible but Chris the manager was very responsive and was willing to come and fix the situation.. We will be back.btw we have rented at leased 8 other housed ovrr the years at the River and this was our favorite.

This is a well appointed & located house good for adults and older children. The lower level is functional but lack of lower level outside lighting makes it challenging to navigate at night. The hot tub is a big benefit and was well used.

The house was lovely, the location is amazing! Chris was a great host and easy to communicate with. Highly recommend!

The house is very comfortable and the view right on the river is wonderful. Great neighborhood for walking the dogs.

Although the house was nicely located, there was no mention in the description (4 BR 3 BA) that half of the property and one bath were located on a lower level with NO inside access. It rained several days, and the two families of children had to stay downstairs in order to give the rest of the adults private bedrooms This meant the four children 1 to 7 years (and mothers, of course) had to wear rain gear just to come upstairs to join the rest and to eat meals. Had we known it would have been a deal breaker. Also the downstairs space was divided into two sleeping areas by a curtain -- not great with babies who didn't sleep well and kept the others awake.
The pictures didn't reveal the size of the upstairs, which was rather tight for our large group. We rented the property to do crafting: sewing, painting, games. Last, but not least, the lighting wasn't sufficient for crafting or reading in the living area so we huddled around the dining table.
Unfortunately the house didn't serve our purposes well at all.

Beautiful setting - mornings were especially enjoyable with fog in the trees and over the river. Great location with easy access to all the conveniences of home but packaged in small town character. The house is very comfortable and fully stocked with everything needed. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful spot on the river surrounded by towering Redwoods. In the morning the stillness punctuated only by birdsong was mesmerizing. We saw both otters and a seal swimming upriver from the living room! House is comfy, spacious, provides all the amenities for a getaway with family or friends. Close to Monte Rio, Duncan Mills, and Jenner. Great location for experiencing both the woods and the ocean. Dock with boats made it easy to explore the river. Highly recommended.

Beautiful view. Would add guard rails in showers and bath. We loved our stay.

House accomodated 12 of us well for my mother's 70th. Beds were very comfortable, kitchen well equipped and outdoor areas very pleasant.

Lots of space! Beds we're comfortable, home was clean. Close to town and hikes, all around wonderful. Would definitely go back.

The house is very comfortable and well appointed. Chris has thought of a lot of good amenities that enhance the experience. We will definitely return.

Thanks Owner Chris! We made memories we will always keep! Great family time!!!!

Spectacular views of the river and wildlife. The cabin was much bigger than we anticipated; even though we were a large group, everyone was able to have privacy. It was great to relax on the porch and watch the birds and sea otters. All appliances were in good shape and the beds were comfy. Chris left us very detailed instructions on access and use- he was a generous and kind host. I'd definitely stay again and recommend this spot to friends.

I booked this awesome house for a 40th birthday vacation with some friends. The house really is incredible with a massive deck, beautiful location with a great view, hot tub, and access to the river. Everything was fantastic… until it came time to go to sleep.
We had a group of 8 adults, most in our late 30s or early 40s, and everyone had a really tough time getting good rest because every bed was bad for different reasons. Every single bed was reeeeally bad. I won’t go into detail about every bed, but the bed in the garden room was the worst. There was no box spring, so you could feel the slats of the bed frame under the mattress. We ended up stuffing the futon pad underneath and that helped, but it was really uncomfortable for the 2 who stayed in that room.
We all had aches and pains in the morning, and after a few nights it really started to take a toll on our middle-aged backs and necks. Although it was hard to leave such a beautiful place, we were all super glad to not have to sleep in those beds another night.
If they replaced the mattresses, this place would be 6/5 stars for sure.

We had a great time. The property was eclectic in all the right ways. the beds were super comfortable and the hot tub was wonderful. the river was only made better by access to the homes river toys... kayak, floats, sup, etc. the kitchen hardware made cooking meals simple. do bring all your own oils/condiments/etc though. wifi/tv worked as expected. location was great to Monte Rio/Sebastopol/Guerneville and Occidental. check out Panizzera butcher, Barley Hops (craft beer/wine restaurant) in Occidental as well as Saucy Mamas in Guernivelle. the speakeasy at Boho Manner (Monte Rio) should not be missed, overall this rental is a 5+/5

We were in the area for a family wedding at Boho Manor (super cute boutique hotel with great food. Go to dinner there!) We had two family and a set of grandparents. Everyone had room to sleep comfortably. The kids ages were 5-8 and while we were not comfortable with them in the river, the access is easy to get to and would be great for warmer weather kayaking or paddle boarding or a cold plunge! The hot tub is easy to use. Quiet river mornings for reading and the house is well stocked with books, kids toys, movies if you want. We would return again!

We rented the Dragon’s Lair to celebrate my 65th birthday with friends. The house was great! Comfortable common spaces inside and out, comfortable beds to sleep in at night, wonderfully quiet and peaceful in the redwoods, and a beautiful view of the river from the hot tub and the house. The kitchen was well stocked, making it easy to hang out and prepare meals. Proximity to the ocean, to nearby hiking and to local shops was great, too. A wonderful escape- we’ll be back.

A wonderful summertime extended family stay with grown kids. Beautiful views, well stocked house, swimming, floating, paddling & boating on the river; super responsive host.
We loved the outdoor shower & The hot tub (cold when we arrived but heated up in a few hours when we followed the directions provided in the house binder & on the App) sits under the redwoods. The boats are as advertised, and very fun for adventures of all lengths.
The kitchen is fully stocked with all the bowls, pots & pans etc of every size, two coffeemakers, an electric kettle, blender, sodastream , hand mixer- all the basics including a huge roll of paper towels - that you could want even for a major feast. The house has all the linens you could need, great washer & dryer- lots of little touches, amenities - eg a pair of good binoculars for birdwatching, a guitar in one closet, games, etc.
As advertised, the property is steep & the path to the dock requires care - but it’s magical sitting on it as well as being on or in the river itself.
The bird life great, and we loved watching the bats at dusk & just after. We also saw river otters, fish, butterflies etc. (yes there were mosquitos but we found lemon eucalyptus spray was sufficient to keep them away).
Note that in Mid-August 2023 there is road repair work going on in Monte Rio proper & on Moscow road - but none of it slowed us down by more than a couple of minutes.
We hope to return.

This home had everything we needed for a wonderful three-generation family vacation. We all loved paddling off the dock and locating nearby beaches. It's close to the coast for hiking, walking, and exploring Jenner as well as Duncans Mills. We appreciated the casual comfort of the house, the hot tub, the beauty of the vistas from the windows, and above all the peaceful river. The downstairs is one large room with a curtain separating two sleeping spaces, each with a bed. That worked well for our family. The house would be crowded with 10 people staying there--just something to bear in mind. It does have nice spaces to escape to (decks, a grassy lawn, that marvelous dock). We all loved this place and are grateful to the owners for sharing the magic.

This house is a great get away. We were there for a celebration and it was exactly what we wanted. Surrounded by forest, private yard, right on the river. Chris was excellent to work with, we messaged back and forth quite a bit, really great guy. I highly recommend this house as your next stay.

Wonderful place. Lots of kitchen amenities, we used Teo kayaks. The bottom floor was perfect for a young family with an infant and two year old. They could sleep while the adults were upstairs (although one adult stayed with them since there is no interior stairwell.) spacious master bath and bedroom. Excellent washer dryer. Close to grocery store. Host was accommodating for late checkout since no one was coming in immediately after us. We will definitely return.

Us 5 adults stayed here for Mother's Day. Weather was beautiful! We had lots of room and amenities for our stay. Loved using the kayaks and paddle board to enjoy the river. Chris was pleasant and helpful with information. Loved the house and would stay again!

Very comfortable and quiet. House was perfect for 6 girls. Bathrooms are big and well stocked. Kitchen is also fully stocked. Extremely comfortable and felt very welcoming. Great views from kitchen, living room and dining room. Easy to find and great parking. Highly recommend. Again, very nice house. We will probably be back!

We had a fantastic family trip! The layout of the house was perfect for our situation. The only problem was the lack of soap in the bathrooms and showers and the coffee maker didn't work properly.
4.8
For many reasons, a tale we would not recomend.

great stay at the dragon's lair!

Very nice, good for older people loading groceries and items in to house. Its peaceful to sit among the trees and animals. Would come back here.

Waking up to the view of the Russian River was incredible! Awesome decks and hot tub soaking with a view. Stayed here for my birthday weekend with my partner and two friends of ours. It was a very delightful stay. Loved being able to kayak directly from the dock on the property. The location is great and a short drive to the coast and small towns. Chris was a great host and answered any questions we had. The place was clean but not immaculate. There were also a few things around the house that needed attention or were not working at its full capacity but we still thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It serioulsy is an amazing spot! Thank you Chris!

Beautiful view, and very spacious with 5 beds. Easily fit our group of 6 and two dogs. Very easy communication with property owner. Would definitely recommend.

Our family gathered from around the country to stay here for Thanksgiving week. The house was perfect for our stay. The view of the river view is lovely and was ideal for those of us who love to kayak. Also, it was fun to watch the wildlife: fish, birds, and otters. The house is fun with lots of toys, games, videos, a hot tub, and kayaks. The kitchen is well equipped and had all we needed for cooking for seven.

Such a relaxing weekend. Everything you need in the kitchen. Loved the canoe and all the outdoor equipment.
4.8
Over the area, canoe and kayaks included to explore the river.

Northern California is breathtaking and this area is precious. But let me tell you about the house. It is nothing like the pictures. The kitchen was well appointed and somewhat clean. However, the coffee pot had old coffee grounds and coffee.
There is so much “stuff” everywhere it made all 4 of us claustrophobic. One bedroom had old, dirty, torn stuffed animals on every surface, the drawers were full as well. I had to live out of my suitcase on the floor the entire time. National Geographic magazines from the 1960s, old games, puzzles, books, everywhere.
The tablecloth felt sticky and disgusting. The rugs in the bathrooms look like they have never been washed, the rugs in the rest of the house are old and dirty. Don’t even ask about the King Tut coffee table.
This house could be amazing (like the pictures) if they would clean out all the old junk.
The path to the dock is overgrown and two of us could not get on the dock at all. A lot of cleanup needs to be done outside.
Don’t let the $350 per day advertised price fool you. We ended up paying almost $620 a day after fees, cleaning fees, taxes and “peak season” fees.
Given a week and a dumpster this place could be marvelous.
We were VERY disappointed.
4.8
Loved the house. The dragon-theme was super fun. We slept well in comfy beds and woke up to the most picturesque views! We would definitely stay here again.
4.8
This house is homey, but very large! It can accommodate several friends or family. A television in the main upstairs bedroom would be nice.
4.8
Large but cozy house with plenty of kid friendly toys, nice hot tub with a beautiful view of the river and a wood fireplace for the perfect ambiance! Tons of fun jumping off the dock and super close to Monte Rio and a quick drive to Guerneville. Would recommend this place for sure!
