Welcome to KATAMA!
Air conditioning throughout this meticulously maintained home should make your visit pleasant during humid period or hot August nights! But what will make you happy during your visit is the homes location – near the Island’s most beautiful and exciting beach and its convenient, quiet location where it is not unusual to see natures residents – a deer, rabbits, birds, and ducks of all varieties visit our expansive backyard. And you watch this from your perch on the large deck!
We have a guest house on the property, in the rear, which is separate from the main house. Please see VRBO property ID: 1181504. It has its own parking; a privacy fence constructed to assure an attractive and natural boundary between the two properties
Our home rests on an island of its own - in the much sought-after area of Edgartown called KATAMA - nestled between Herring Creek and Katama Roads and is surrounded by MV's extraordinary bike path that can take you to South Beach, the Village of Edgartown or beyond! Protected Open Space is minutes away on foot. The Village is an easy walk where you'll find entertainment, restaurants, fishing, and access to Chappy!
South Beach is less than a two-mile bike ride away, the Island’s public transportation system stops at the end of our street and the Katama Airport, Katama Store and a nice new restaurant are an easy walk from the house. Our large deck and expansive backyard is perfect for cookouts and yard games! A Weber gas grill and 8 seat picnic table complete the outdoor living space along with Adirondack chairs and a hammock.
Our kitchen is well equipped for the most discriminating cook. Find everything from normal everyday mugs, plates and utensils to a blender, salad spinner, lobster pot! A walnut table that can comfortably seat 8-10 graces the dining area.
Each of the three full baths has been updated and you will never want for towels or sheets, all of which are on site. But please feel free to bring your own if you prefer or contact me for the Island laundry service. The four bedrooms (2 down - Primary En Suite with Bath, KING sized bed, and second bedroom (use of full bath in hall) has 2 Twin beds; Upstairs 2 bedrooms: one KING (with Roku TV, window and skylight) and, a second bedroom with a Queen sized bed and 2 twins beds.
The entire first floor is hardwood, except the baths, which are tiled. The second floor bedrooms are carpeted in a Berber wall to wall rug and cleaned each year.
The house is maintained as a smoke-free pet-free environment.
We delight in taking long walks, biking along the path toward Morning Glory Farm for early morning muffins and late day pies for the evening's desert, tennis at the Boys and Girls Club or the school's jungle gym and play-yard with our children's children and friends. The Edgartown Fire Station Museum delights all, and the maritime museum is in Vineyard Haven situated right on the water. There is sailing and swimming, gardens (Chappy has a Japanese garden My Toi) and beaches, museums, and shops galore. And all this (except the new MV Museum) is a mere 1/2 – 1 mile from your summer retreat.

Our extended 2-week stay was great. The location of the house was very convenient in terms of getting to South Beach and Edgartown center. The details of the listing matched the description. The house had plenty of space and fit our family christine. The recent upgrades were an unexpected but welcome surprise. Lastly, the host was very responsive to any and all inquiries before, during and after our stay.

Truly the best of all worlds, a short trip into town (very walkable) and a quick drive or bike to the beach!
Home was spacious and well-appointed and the pickleball court was a blast.
Owner was a dream to liaise with!

This was the perfect location to stay in Martha's Vinyard! We all brought bikes and biked into Edgartown and the surrounding area nearly every day. Additionally, the pickle ball court was perfect entertainment after a long day at the beach. The host was wonderful and overall this was an amazing vacation and home for an active family!

Great property. Well appointed and comfortable. Great location. Close enough to bike, take a long walk, or short Uber ride into Edgartown but far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. Our kids thoroughly enjoyed the pickleball court. Ms. Mary is the best! So helpful and hospitable.

Very clean, bright, and airy home. Convenient to shopping and Katama beach. The pickleball court was a bonus. We all enjoyed playing.

Thank you for a great stay! This home is a short walk to the center of Edgartown and has all the amenities and a beautiful deck and outdoor space. So clean on the inside and a great open floor plan. We had a wonderful time on MV and staying in this property. The weather was spectacular. The amenities were great. The kids loved the pickle ball court; my husband could play his guitar on the back porch; many of us enjoyed the hammock and outdoor shower. The inside is very clean and the open concept works well for entertaining. We also appreciated the finished basement with the television as the kids could be doing their own thing away from adults. Would highly recommend!

On island for a family wedding. We were perfectly situated to attend the welcome bbq and then the ceremony in Aquinnah. Mary Jane was prompt on any questions and very welcoming and we appreciate her hospitality. A well stocked kitchen for those who plan to cook their own meals. Thanks again Mary Jane.

The only place to stay on MV!
My family and I have stayed at this property many times and can’t say enough great things about it. The property itself is beautiful. The house is always clean and is very spacious for a decent size group. It has an amazing backyard that my kids love! They run around, play catch, play cornhole, paddle ball, you name it! The back deck is equipped with a grill to cook with plenty of room to eat and entertain. Enjoy your coffees out there in the mornings and have your dinner and drinks under the stars at night. The house is located right off the bike path and is a 2 mile walk/bike ride to South Beach and 1 mile from Edgartown Center. Literally the perfect location! Spend the day at the beach then walk to town for dinner and ice cream - the best. This is the only place to stay on Martha’s Vineyard!

Lovely family home!
Everything about our stay in this home was great! Mary Jane went above and beyond to communicate with us and make our stay as comfortable as possible! She even emailed me a few hours before our arrival indicating that she was going to turn the heat up as it was very chilly on the day we arrived. She was always double checking to see if we needed anything. The house was clean and comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped for me to make a full Thanksgiving dinner for my family. The location is great and truly had everything you could possibly need. Mary Jane was very flexible with our arrival and departure times and just went above and beyond overall! We would definitely stay again or recommend to friends! Thanks for a great stay!

Beautiful property ideally located in Edgartown. Close to the beach and shops. Great size property for the whole family.

The place was perfect for our vacation. It was clean and spacious for two families with kids. The location is great for bike riding. We enjoyed Martha's Vineyard as always but this place with its amenities made our stay much better.
The host Mary Jane was super helpful with regards to questions and concerns. We had to call her very late on the first night because the cleaning crew forgot to place the bath tissues and the stores were closed. Mary Jane took care of the issue right away.
One issue for us was the cleaning requirements during our checkout which I found not to be clear as part of the rental agreement. There was a separate cleaning instructions at the place when we checked in. We stayed in several vacation rental places and in all these places, we were not asked to wash/fold the linen/towels and offload the dishwasher. We were used to leaving the used linen/towels on the floor (or starting the wash cycle for the used towels) and starting the dishwasher before checking out. Not sure what the cleaning fees included but I had to do the laundry and fold the towels/linens and offload the dishwasher. I wish they could charge little extra for cleaning or communicate this properly.
We were respectful to the property and thank Mary Jane for hosting us during our vacation at Martha's Vineyard.

This house is exactly how it’s advertised. Nice and spacious with plenty of room for 5 adults. The house is updated and is situated on a nice piece of land. In regards to other rental on the property it was a non issue. You have more than enough space between the deck, yard and actual house. The outdoor shower is one of the nicer ones I’ve used. The location is great for bike riding, quick ride to south beach and or downtown edgartown. The weather was also perfect end of September/ early October is a great time to visit the vineyard! Mary Jane was quick to answer even though we didn’t have many issues with the house. She even let us have a later checkout which was generous. Highly recommend this house and it could have slept more no problem. I would love to go back ASAP!

Above and Beyond
This is a great property! However its the property owner that really set this property apart. We were caught in a pretty bad storm on the Vineyard and the Ferry Boat Schedules shut down for two days after our planned departure. Mary Jane was gracious enough to allow us to stay the additional days and was genuinely caring and concerned. Nice to meet someone who treated us as more than a business transaction. I would and will rent with Mary Jane in the future.

Worked with us
Lovely home and great hostess. We had to change our plans because of the hurricane and our hostess was so willing to help. We ended up arriving a day early and she worked to make that happen for us.

Nice property, close to town and beach!
Overall the house was comfortable, everything was in working order, and we appreciated that it had AC with different controls for each bedroom. The hammock on the deck was an added bonus, it was very comfortable to hang out in and read a book.
On the day of arrival the owner communicated that we could arrive a little early as the cleaners had finished up, that was a nice surprise!
We had some trouble with the door lock. We have one like it at home, but this one sounded an alarm if it was mistakenly touched while in the locked position. It got to the point where no one would touch it and I had to deal with it every time someone was coming or going.
The pictures and description needs some updating to make it current, I noted of a couple of things, which for some might not be a factor but for others might:
There is a cottage directly behind the house, so if you are in the kitchen or on the back porch you are looking at the cottage. They have a small privacy fence but I could see over it. I was completely unaware this existed as it is not in the description or pictures. The owner emailed me the day my rental started to indicate no one would be renting the cottage. I wouldn't have rented the house if there was a possibility of renters/owners in the cottage. It just isn't for me, I prefer privacy when on vacation otherwise I'd stay in town or a hotel.
I had packed sheets in my car based on the description in VRBO (I checked it the night before) to expedite leaving early Saturday morning. I found one of the beds was a king not a queen so I had packed the wrong sized sheets. The owner was quick to update the listing when I mentioned it, but for me it was too late.
There is something in the description about a fireplace in the living room. We are big fireplace people, especially on cool nights. It wouldn't have kept me from renting the property but we were disappointed it was no longer there.
Again, overall it was a nice house in a great location I would only suggest asking about the other rental on the property if that is something you personally care about.

I have stayed here several times...perfectly clean, very comfortable and equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Charming ,contemporary cottage look with great mattresses on the beds for a good nights sleep and the location can't be beat. Just a mile walk into Edgartown or a bike ride to South Beach you have access to shops, entertainment and fabulous dining options.
