About this house rental
Casa Serena has all of the colonial charm you expect in a fully-renovated home in the heart of Merida's Centro. It is located only steps away from Merida's English Library, a local hub for expat gathering and activities.
This colonial home is ideally situated for exploring the nearby art galleries, parks, historic churches, and museums but also close to the local shops, cafés, and culinary restaurants for which Merida has become famous.
Welcoming you as you enter the foyer of the home are high wood-beamed ceilings, restored antique doors, pasta tiled floors and large open spaces. You will find this comfortable home tastefully decorated with unique Mexican artwork collected by the owner adorning the walls and tables throughout. Just off the foyer, you will find the first of three well appointed bedrooms with ensuite baths. The home sleeps 6 persons. Next is a comfortable living room for unwinding by reading, listening to music, or watching the cable television. This leads to both the inside dining room and the kitchen. The column-lined kitchen is the center of the home and effortlessly meshes with the exterior courtyard, pool, and exterior dining room which surround it. The modern kitchen is fully-equipped to fulfill all of your needs during your stay and features a breakfast bar for gathering or eating. There is even a grill by the pool for further cooking needs.
The exterior spaces of this home, which feature tropical flowering and fruit-bearing plants, are where most guests end up relaxing when not exploring the historic city or nearby Mayan pyramids, museums and cenotes. In addition to the 6 ft. by 15 ft. filtered pool in the center courtyard, there are two additional rooftop terraces to enjoy. Perched above the kitchen is a just completed, bedroom suite which overlooks the pool below and has its own bathroom. Past the pool, secluded at the rear of the property, is the separate master suite and bath. This bedroom is the perfect place to catch up on any well-deserved sleep.
Casa Serena has a long history of providing its guests with a centrally located retreat in the middle of historic Merida.

This has been one of the most interesting experiences in my travels so far! The architecture, planning and how all works together just blows my construction mind in pieces. Simple solutions that work extremely well in this hot and humid climate. Aside from that the place is super clean, quiet, comfortable and close to everything. The semi outdoor kitchen is very well stocked up so you can create the most difficult meals after. No need for A/C but the pool is a blessing! Many thanks tho the host and super attentive DH team!!!! This has been remarkable experience!

Our family of four fell in love with Casa Serena! The house is more beautiful even than the photos - we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking (buy your own groceries though), and the plunge pool made for relaxing afternoons and evenings. The location is excellent - we walked everywhere and loved seeing Mérida this way. We would definitely stay here again!

WiFi info they sent didn’t work but we figured it out eventually.
AC in main room didn’t have a remote that worked so we had to use the one for the bedroom next to the main room. Bedrooms were huge and the AC worked great in each room. Just keep the doors closed and it cools off quickly. The kitchen has no AC but that was fine because we didn’t cook. The keys to the place were a bit persnickety but my husband used some oil to remedy that. Felt very safe all over Mérida and we walked a lot. Found some nice out of the way places to eat. Remember, as nice as the place is, it IS Mexico. You can’t put toilet paper in the toilets…. Parts of the home are open air. We were happy with it though!

What a beautiful home to spend the new year in

This is a beautifully restored and well-kept house and the photos do it justice- though we missed the outside dining table.
Communication with the management team was excellent and a small problem was fixed very quickly.
The location was good for walking to most of the places of interest and to many restaurants. The lack of a nearby grocery store was a drawback, especially if you don’t have a car. It would have been great to have a few groceries provided rather than having to search for a restaurant after a long flight.
We would certainly recommend the property for peaceful stay right in the heart of Merida.

The casa was spacious and represented the architect of the Mérida historical district. Within walking distance to the central square

What a glorious house, complete with courtyard plunge pool, 3 very nice bedrooms, 18 foot ceilings throughout, lovely period furnishings, several terraces..located in vibrant Centro. Particularly enjoyed restaurants in Saint Lucia square. Would like to return…

The house is a few doors down from a jazz club that we enjoyed a couple nights and Elena’s bakery around the corner had lots of pastries and great service. All in all the house was very clean and spacious. We couldn’t ask for a better spot to stay in Merida. We walked all over the city and fund our place close to everything.

This is an absolutely wonderful property. Just the right mix of traditional appointments and modern convenience. Very private, quiet and comfortable. As they say, location, location, location. We were there for Hanal Pixán the Mayan version of Dia de Los Muertos. We were able to walk to all of the festivities. The number of outstanding restaurants within blocks of the property allowed us to try a new one each nite. We did NOT have a bad meal. Plaza Grande, El Centro and shopping are close as well. Gregory and his property managers were attentive and quick to respond. Highly recommend. But please, don’t tell anyone because I want to be able to rebook.

Beautiful house in a central location
The house was even better in person! There were so many spaces to explore, and it felt like you stepped away from the city when you entered. The location was walking distance to Merida’s popular tourist attractions, the house was extremely well equipped, and the hosts provided a very helpful guide to the city. I would definitely stay again!

Our family of 4 had a wonderful time in this beautiful house. We didn’t want for anything and it was THE location to explore the city. Thank you for your amazing hospitality!

In love with Merida and This house!
The pictures paint this house to the dot. It is colorful, nicely decorated and tip top clean. My family and I stayed for a full week and found it was the perfect place for us to relax while visiting the city. Communicating with Deborah the house manager was easy and fluent. She was always on top Of anything that was needed. Only flaw in the house is the hot water was difficult to get when taking a shower. All in all we would definitely stay there again!

Great location. Spacious house.
Our party of 5 stayed in Casa Serena for a week late December. The house is spacious with high ceilings and has a beautiful courtyard with a pool. and multiple decks. We made extensive use of both during our downtime. Casa Serena is very central, making it easy to explore Merida's centro. In addition to Parque de Santa Lucia (few blocks away), we really enjoyed the small market in Parque de Santiago and the various taquerias & bars around it.
Debora & her team were extremely responsive and handled efficiently a couple of problems that arose during our stay. Both check-in and check-out were smooth.
As pointed out by other reviewers, the growing success of the nearby Dzalbay cantina is a mixed blessing for this location . On one hand, it provides a great music hub with excellent live bands. On the other, it generates a fair amount of noise until midnight most nights. So if you are looking for absolute serenity, you may want to consider an alternative. Otherwise this is a great spot to discover and explore Merida.

Location Location Location
This property is very well located in the Historic Central District and 3 or 4 doors down the street from DZALBAY Cantina, which if you are highly sensitive to noise,Merida might need some alternative consideration. Merida is a large and beautiful city but having traffic and music contributes to some background noise at this facility and probably most in town!
Like many structures subject to the intense humidity of Merida (both form in the air and from the underground water sources) maintenance is a constant struggle. This house was reasonably maintained. We had one hot water supply issue and reported it to Debra and David and they responded immediately resolving the issues.
The plunge pool was a nice feature and was used in the midday heat a couple for the days. Lighting in the living room was low comparatively to other places we have stayed but may be due to the lack of fenestration.
It was a very easy walk to Santa Lucia Park which was a place with high activity. We preferred this park to the Central Plaza as the central plaza had extensive traffic congestion but then on Sunday it also had intense activity. Paseo Montejo, and the building along it, are wonderful even in the humidity and it is only a 15 minute walk to begin that adventure. Some other areas north of the city are well developed and have many American Retail names familiar to most, for those where that might appeal..

Lovely Stay In Centro
Stayed at Casa Serena for three and a half weeks in March. The house is spacious and comfortable, with many interesting touches from all over Mexico. The location is excellent - very close to Santa Lucia and the zocalo, yet not too noisy. We really enjoyed the outside spaces. Refreshing and well tended pool, upper deck for sunrise/sunset, lower one for meals, and middle one for afternoon. It was also nice to have four bathrooms and a laundry. There was a problem with the water, and the managers worked hard until it was resolved. It was very hot while we were there, but between the fans and the air conditioning we were comfortable. One caveat is that the upstairs bedroom, while lovely, is noisy at night and very bright early in the morning due to all the glass.

A great home to spend 5 weeks
My husband and I recently stayed for 5 weeks in this home. We have rented many homes in Centro over the years, but this one stands out. First, it is really clean - I mean the floors and the corners of the rooms and the kitchen counters were great. Second, there are a lot of lights and fans in the rooms and the patio and this is the first home that actually had all the lights working and the switches were labeled. Great. Third, there were very few ants. And only a little late night band noise which floated over the patio. Quite standard and very manageable for the Centro area. Fourth, and most importantly is the relationship between the owner and property manager (not just a cleaner). It was excellent and that makes a big difference. We had one need for help and had easy contact with the PM via text messaging, and the PM was on it. Cleaning staff and pool maintenance weekly were an example of attention to detail.
As to the location, well Centro is where you want to be. There are more and more restaurants of different types every visit plus music, theatre, symphony, dancing and just stuff going on. We did lunch weekly in Progresso. Merida is just a happening place.
I had to work remotely parts of the time and the patio area was tranquil and private. Great Wifi but the Wifi router did not reach to the casita (3rd bedroom) , so I could not use the lovely desk in that room as my office. So I moved to the dining room. All-in-all a good experience and to give evidence to that, we have booked the home for next year, same time. And that is first time we have done that.

Lovely old Victorian with an easy walk to downtown. Cute little cantina on the corner
Comfortable Livingroom and beds. Very well stocked kitchen and nice, deep pool. Multiple outdoor terraces, all on different levels so sun and shade always available. Very responsive property managers. A very good experience !!

A Lovely Merida Home
We spent two weeks in Casa Serena, and loved every minute of it. The location of this home is great for walking to restaurants, cultural events, the Plaza Grande, and even catching a bus to Progresso. The high ceilings, fans , and air conditioned rooms for sleeping made our stay very comfortable in spite of the warm temperatures this year. The dipping pool provided great relief on many afternoons after tours and sightseeing. We particularly enjoyed the kitchen and sitting room for conversation and relaxation. The decor is tasteful and charming. The beds and linens were great. The couple who manage this home were very helpful and accommodating. I would highly recommend this home.

Great location, nicely appointed, comfortably furnished, all amenities.
Property managers exceptional. Felt somewhat uncomfortable with separate building location of second bedroom. Was not informed in rental agreement of deduction for electricity from damage deposit. Please advise. Still we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Thank you

Very much at home at Casa Serena
We spent ten days (11 nights) in Casa Serena, a very nice house located in a pleasant neighbourhood in the centre of Mérida -- a perfect location to discover this lovely city. The house is typical, featuring very high beamed ceilings, tall wooden doors that let the air circulate, and period tiled floors, elements which contribute to the quality of the whole experience. It is confortable, clean, quiet, spacious, and enjoyable. The privacy of the courtyard and its swimming-pool are great. Everything works well and the kitchen has what is needed for home cooking.
The property managers, Deborah and David, provided assistance when needed.
We loved every moment we spent in Casa Serena and in Mérida. There is a lot to see, to enjoy, in town and in the region. Every citizen with whom we interacted was very nice and welcoming.

Home in a Great Location!
My daughter and I had the pleasure of staying at Casa Serena the last week of July. We were in Merida for Spanish school and I wanted a home that would allow us to see the sights of the Centro and have the convenience of restaurants close enough to walk to. Casa Serena accomplished all of that for us. The food in Merida is excellent and priced very well! With the help of two of my favorite apps, "Yelp" and "Trip Advisor", we were able to find restaurants and attractions easily. I also recommend using Uber. When we weren't walking we were using Uber for all of our transportation needs. We don't speak Spanish fluently and we never had to worry about explaining anything to the driver because you enter your destination online!
Case Serena has two bedrooms, both with queen size beds. The master bedroom is detached from the main house and is located at the rear of the property. We decided to stay in the bedroom in the main part of the house to be closer to the television, internet and the kitchen. The bedroom was right off the street and we could easily hear the traffic outside. We became used to the noise and never had problems sleeping. The ceiling fan and AC unit in the room kept us comfortable as well as drowned out the street noises. All of the room in the house have AC except the kitchen. We never really used the kitchen for much more than making a cold breakfast before school. The fridge and the microwave were more than enough for us. July in Merida is very hot! There was no need to make it hotter with cooking!
The pool is located in the completely private courtyard. It remains partially shaded during the day and the water was nice and cool. We were surprised by the depth the pool! We bought pool noodles for flotation since the water was above our heads while standing on the bottom. The laundry room is across from the pool and is large and well lighted. I had no problem hanging our clothes to dry in there when several rainy afternoons made the clothesline useless.
The property is managed by a very nice couple, Debora and David. They are kind and helpful. Debora quickly fixed a small maintenance problem we had when she stopped by to check on us.
We throughly enjoyed our visit to Merida. The great location and affordability of Casa Serena fit well with our needs. We look forward to a return visit to this part of Mexico.

Great house, great location!
We spent about 2 weeks at Casa Serena. It is a great house and the location can't be beat. Very close to Plaza Santa Lucia and the central square, so lots of shopping, restaurants, etc... The pool is perfect for cooling off during the day. Debora and David were awesome and very helpful! We hope to come back again next summer!

Great Vacation Rental!
This vacation rental was perfect for our stay in Merida. In Centro Merida with so much to do and see and the people were very friendly. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance along with museums and other attractions. Every night, there was something going on in the center of town. My husband and I spent a week here and very much enjoyed our stay. Comfortable, beautifully decorated and plenty of space . The kitchen had all the needed utensils plus a great stove and full size refrigerator. Beds were comfortable and plenty of places to sit and relax. It had a very 'at home' feel. The air conditioner cooled the place down when needed but the fans were also great for making the rooms comfortable. David met us at the house and was very informative about Merida. He and his wife were very responsive and helpful during out stay. Would definitely stay again!

FABULOUSO!!
My husband and I spent four delightful nights in Merida!! Casa David exceeded all of our expectations and truly made for a wonderful Merida experience!! From being greeted promptly upon arrival, being within walking distance to Historic El Centro, fabulous restaurants, shopping and exceptional zoo, made for a fabulous trip!! All furnishings were very tastefully done and meticulously clean!! The high ceilings, wood doors and all over vibe was very relaxing and refreshing. Enjoying the evening stars while sipping a cocktail in our private pool after a long adventurous day was the "hot sauce on the taco"!! We were given a list of wonderful restaurants that were five star and so ridiculously reasonable!! We can't wait to return!! Thank you for the smile I get when sharing our trip with friends!!

PERFECTO!!!!!
A friend and I spent a long week-end in Merida for the first time. Everything about the trip was wonderful! The house was absolutely charming that we rented from Gregory Williams. Gregory and the property managers, Debora and David, were responsive with each question and need. The house has been renovated true to its era. The furnishings are very nice. The rooms are spacious and clean. It is nice having the two bedrooms at opposite ends of the house. It felt like we each had a suite The pool was divine after a long, hot day of exploring. The house is located such that you can walk to everything you could possibly need.
The city of Merida has so much to offer. I would highly recommend that you're there on a Sunday because the activities on the square in the center of town are so much fun Vendors are displaying their wares, delicious food is everywhere, and everyone is in a festive mood. A live band with Mexican dancers perform a very entertaining show. The people of Merida are very warm and greet you with a smile.
Going back to Merida and staying in the same lovely renovated colonial is high at the top of the "To Do" list. Thank you Gregory, Debora, and David for making this trip so memorable and hassle-free. See you soon!!
