About this house rental
Enjoy this beautiful, secluded home located in Old Black Bear Woods. It boasts vaulted ceilings on the main level and nine foot ceilings on the lower level giving this home a wonderful, airy feeling. Large windows at the back of the home give amazing, unobstructed views of the National Wildlife Refuge and large backyard. As well as a screened in porch, perfect for mornings to enjoy the sunrises.
On the main level there is a large living room with a flat screen tv and expansive views from its perch. Walk straight into the open kitchen and dining area that has plenty of room for everyone and an island counter. On the same level is the screened in porch, which makes it easy to make your meals then enjoy them outside at the picnic table. Down the short hallway there is one bedroom with a queen bed and a bathroom.
Up the spiral staircase is a loft bedroom with a king size bed that has a blind to pull down to give you privacy from the rest of the home.
Going down the spiral staircase to the lower level is a family room with large windows to look out to the backyard from. In the family room is two sleep sofas and another flat screen tv. On this level is another bedroom with a full bed and a second bathroom.

Loved the location. Had an issue with A/C but luckily did not need it much. Anyone with mobility issues might have a problem with the spiral staircases. Furniture has been changed since the photos. Would stay here again.

Great property with a great secluded location. Fantastic area to kick back and relax. Communications were always quick and responsive. Very easy to do business with.

It was great! The cabin was well maintained and the views were amazing! The cleanliness, the views, and the hot tub. Matt was great with quick responses to questions.

Only disappointment was the only true access to the main floor the extremely narrow spiral stair case or the outside steps which was difficult for my elderly mother and family that came to visit. Maybe could reference in description the limited access for disabled or elderly guests. Only experience was over email because of the COVID situation. However I feel that everything was handled well

Spacious, clean, secluded.. there's more than just one favorite! It was wonderful. All other vacations will be measured against this. Thank you! Everyone was gracious, helpful and friendly. Give them all a raise!

The living, dining and kitchen area was nice for our group. We played games and were able to prepare dinner and visit well in that open area. Due to covid I only coomunicated with the team via email but they were quick to respond and I had all of the information I needed.

The place is lovely but needs safety updates. I emailed Matt multiple times and he never returned my emails. That was disappointing.

The view and seclusion was amazing, but it also wasn’t too far from the main cities!
We all had a great time. Thank you!

We enjoyed our stay and our family wants to come back again next summer. We found this to be a good central location for us to meet since we all live in different places. Our grandchildren had a wonderful time. And having teenagers this was defined a good choice.

We loved the big back yard and open living room and kitchen We stay in Canaan Valley a few times a year and we always use Mountaintop. The people there are very nice and helpful and I have never had a problem over the last 15 years with booking or anything else

Property was just as advertised, cleanliness top notch, everything worked. Location was perfect location to ski resorts and state park

We loved the house. It is beautiful. Loved the backyard and fire pit. Loved the view and being next to a wildlife preserve. Loved the private quiet location. Best stocked kitchen we’ve ever had. Premium toilet paper! Cool sofa beds if needed. Perfect proximity to all the things we wanted to do on our trip. Matt was very responsive with my questions and very helpful from the time of booking through the entire visit.

When we got to the property we found the living area in a filthy state. The main floor contained socks, French fries, dirt, hand warmers, and an unexpected amount of filth. This is not what we expected upon arriving at the property. After leaving the property the 3 guests (including myself) who used the hot tub developed rashes and were diagnosed with a form of folliculitis. All members of the party followed the proper protocol that was listed on the refrigerator such as showering both before and after using the outdoor hot tub. We reached out directly to the rental agency (MountainTop Realty) to just only receive an email saying "Very Sorry!" with no true resolution to these problems. Very disappointed and would warn anyone before renting this property.

I had a wonderful time (as I always do) in what I consider to be the best place in our wonderful state. As I stated the home was wonderful, and the Mountaintop Realty folks are great to deal with. I've rented from Mountaintop Realty now 3 or 4 times when I visit the Canaan area. The team is always pleasant to work with and are very helpful. every property I have rented has been as advertised and is well maintained.

I really enjoyed the property and we had a great week. Loved the living room the most. Windows all around to see into the nature reserve. All of the people I spoke to or worked with were incredibly helpful and friendly. I have nothing but great things to say about the staff.

Our favorite thing about the property is that it borders the wildlife refuge. The views are beautiful and the property was really secluded Team member were helpful and very responsive.

Snowbird Retreat was exceptionally clean and the kitchen was very well appointed with everything we needed and then some, and we cooked there the entire weekend. Plenty of towels, linens, pillows and blankets and we had 9 people staying there. Hot tub was also very clean with recently maintained chemicals. Overall it was perfect for our needs and a very well cared for property - we were very pleased. Very private and secluded property and a nice house! Office personnel were very positive, cheerful and helpful - made the entire experience easy and pleasant.

Was exactly what we had hoped for! Hot tub was great, as was the view from the living room. Everyone was helpful and friendly.

This was our first experience of a weeks vacation at Canaan Valley. The location of the cabin was perfect in that it was so close to both Blackwater Falls & Canaan Valley State Park. The cabin itself was beautiful and we enjoyed a very & I mean a very relaxing stay there. The kitchen is well stocked with anything one would need. The negatives to this beautiful cabin -- the compatibility of the stairs especially the spiral staircase with our dogs. Only one of our dogs would go down or up them which meant we had to to down the outside flight of stairs every time we had to take them out plus we slept in the downstairs bedroom in order to easily get them out to potty. Going from a King size bed at home to a full size bed at this cabin wasn't very comfortable either, so it would be nicer to have had at least an upgrade to a queen size bed for comfort. Another suggestion would be to have blinds on all of the windows downstairs for those of us who are scarity cats watching TV at night. That was creepy! We did have an issue with our keys to enter the cabin but an email to the realtor office and the next day the locksmith came out to adjust the lock and make new keys for us. So we were very happy about the attentiveness to this issue while we were there. But the most disheartening issue was in knowing the price we paid to rent this cabin was to walk into the cabin to several large stains on the carpet in all the rooms that were carpeted. I took pictures of all of the stains and emailed the realtors office because of having our dogs with us we did not want to be blamed for these stains. I would like to add that the cabin was otherwise very clean and it did not smell. I did get a response a couple days later that they were aware of the stains but since the cabin has been rented so much that they hadn't had a chance to get the carpets cleaned. Suggestion would be to mark off days in order to get this done -- as I said this was disheartening in seeing this right when walking into the cabin. So I do hope the carpets get cleaned sooner than later for the next renter. All in all we would stay here again in knowing how we would have to manage the staircases with our dogs but I don't suggest this cabin for anyone that has any issues of going up or down stairs and that includes your fur-kids. Thank you for allowing us to bring our fur-kids with us and we did enjoy your cabin. Donna & Glenn

Overall the location and parking at the house was great for our group of friends. We had 4 couples and I would say this house slept 2 -3 couples better than 4+. We did use one of the pull out couches but it was extremely uncomfortable. The house obviously has roof leaks because you could see mildew/mold looking stains in multiple places in the kitchen, and dining area. The basement bathroom showed signs of water leaks also. The kitchen, dining, and living room area was really nice for a large group. It allowed us to cook dinner, play games, watch TV, and visit with each other. The hot tub was clean and well maintained. Overall, it served our need as a last minute rental but in the future I would hope for a cleaner, better maintained home with more designated bedrooms with queen or bigger beds.
