Just under one mile drive to Timberline Mountain Lodge or approximately 700 yard walk from Mountain Shadows to the Tunnel on Winterset Trail.

This home is 5 miles from the Canaan Valley Resort and Ski Area. Whitegrass Cross Country Skiing is 5.5 miles away. We cannot control weather and skiing conditions.

Canaan Valley, truly the mid-Atlantics playground, is nestled in the scenic Hills of West Virginia, and boasts world-class skiing, snow shoeing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hunting and fishing, whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, and golfing. With easy access to National Forest Lands, Wildlife Refuge, Wilderness areas, and two State Parks, explore the endless possibilities here. Your family will enjoy our quaint mountain towns and shop or browse in our many antique, gift and specialty shops or enjoy some fairs and festivals.

Tucker County has 4 breathtaking seasons to enjoy. In the winter, we pick up much of our annual 150 snowfall from the Great Lakes whenever strong Northwesterly winds drop out of Canada. Spring brings some of the best hunting and fishing, and wildflowers. Escape the heat of summer where temperatures rarely exceed the mid 80s. Autumn brings cool temperatures and blazing colors of our extensive hardwood forests.

We love this cabin. Floorplan is open and spacious and the loft area is a great place for kids to hangout. The large windows give a lovely view of being nestled in the trees. The gas fireplace offers convenient coziness. It's so nice to go right out the front door for walks with our dog. We have rented this cabin 3 times over the years and always look forward to returning. Happy to see some upgrades, new furniture is nice. Friendly and efficient.

We had a wonderful time at Mountain Shadows! The cabin was clean, well-stocked and roomier than expected. We cooked a whole Thanksgiving meal in the kitchen with ease. The fireplace and hot tub were great after a day of hiking. We hope to return! The communication with Matt at the time of booking and just before our stay was very polite and helpful. Response time was also very quick.

The hot tub and deck are amazing! We loved the location and the house itself. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen was very well stocked. Couch is also super comfortable. I would recommend this property to anyone! So relaxing and beautiful and had everything we needed for a 4 day vacation. Matt was responsive and helpful!

Mountain Shadows is an absolute delight. Loved the new furniture and the very clean hot tub and living spaces. We arrived late Friday and our booking had been switched back a day due to miscommunication via email, but everything was figured out within 10 minutes and we had our keys thanks to the excellent communication with the emergency numbers. 10/10 would recommend to anyone else looking to experience such a wonderful area.

We enjoyed this property thoroughly. Extremely convenient location to the places we wanted to see: Blackwater falls, Elakala falls, Monongahela Forest, and the towns of Davis and Thomas. The setting was stunning, and the back windows of the home were very enchanting. We didn't want to leave! We enjoyed the hot tub, kitchen amenities, upgraded furniture, and the fishing pond in the front of the property. Exceptionally nice stay and we hope to visit again soon. The experience with all members of the team was extremely easy and pleasant. We had a wonderful time.

The gas fireplace was especially nice and kept the home warm and cozy. Loved the windows that allowed us to look out at the beautiful fall colors. Emails were sent out timely with instructions. That part was great. Never received a reply to my email asking some pertinent questions but when I actually called the office, the ladies were very kind and helpful.

Great location for winter

A great property that would be better with AC or in the winter. We knew it didn’t have AC before going but thought it would be fine. It was very warm and uncomfortable. The ceiling fans were not great, they were very noisy and not very effective. We loved the location and the lay out of the house. It worked perfect with kids upstairs and parents on the main floor. The hot tub was great. An excellent amount of towels were provided. And having a washer and dryer was also a nice bonus. Upon arrival there was a note from housekeeping that they couldn’t finish the laundry so the first 30 minutes was spent folding towels and sheets. But the house was clean. Not sure I would advertise a swimming pond as it didn’t look swimmable but you could fish there. With all that said we would go back and stay there again as long as the temperature was under 60. The only other issue we had was the coffee pot didn’t work properly. As noted in other reviews the furniture wasn’t the most comfortable. The beds were pretty firm which half our family liked. Check in and out was easy and communication prior to arrival was good.

Best summer vacation spot we have tried - relaxing as camping with WAY more convenience, privacy, & comfort, yet still in the middle of nature!! The back deck is so private that you do not feel like anyone else is around! Always pleasant and happy to help!
