The house was absolutely gorgeous. Inside and out.
The housekeeper, Virginia, made our trip perfect. She is the most amazing woman and nothing is impossible if you ask.

We had a great time in the villa. It has a very beautiful view of the coast and sorounding nature is amazing.

Beautiful views and warm ocean breezes are just two of the wonderful features of this villa. We stayed for one week and wish we had booked to stay longer. The setting is stunning and very private which made our stay completely relaxing. Noella, the property manager, was wonderful - she was very friendly and discrete and arranged to have the fridge stocked with requested items before we arrived. The owners were very responsive to questions before our arrival which made finding the villa very straight forward. Villa Arboleda is very close to Las Terrenas and it is also easy to get to Samana for whale watching and to Las Galeras for the beautiful beach there. We would highly recommend this villa and hope to return again.

This was our second time in Las Terrenas, and we're so glad we chose this rental. The previous reviews are all on the money. The views from Villa Arboleda are incredible. The property manager was very flexible in allowing us to check in early and then waited for us after an unforeseen flight delay. On our last night we hired the chef, Simon, who is a fantastic cook and can make anything to your heart's content. I recommend hiring him, but not on your last night (you WILL have leftovers!). Many thanks to Justin, Jennifer, and Noelia for making our stay a memorable one.

I decided to book this property based on the wonderful reviews and pictures of the home. To my surprise, my overall experience was less than ideal And would have definitely chosen another property to stay at in Las Terrenas. For the record, getting the property was by far the biggest hassle. To say it was intimidating is an understatement. We opted to have s personal driving service during our stay so that we wouldn't have to rely on directions in an foreign country. Upon arriving, our flight was delayed and we ended up arriving at the home at night. The community is pitch black with no lighting. Navigating in the dark was terrifying. There was a total of 5 adults on our vacation. Our driver in abmercedes Benz sprinter could not make it up the hill. We had to haul all of our luggage up to the house in mid 80s humid weather. Finally arriving we enter the house to find Noelia the house attended waiting for us. She speaks absolutely no English. Thank God for our billengual speaking driver who was able to translate. The house first off has no air conditioning. This isn't advertised granted, but considering how humid the DR is was disappointing...especially after hauling our luggage up a steep hill for 15 minutes. The house did look like the pictures but I imagined it to be bigger. We were all totally exhausted and decided to sleep the night off. Noelia left her cell number and wifi password. No grand tour, no options for excursions, no overall satisfying hospitality you'd expect in a luxury villa. Fortunately I planned all the activities myself. Noelia did have a chef come the next morning and throughout our stay which was great. The property has fans inside the home to keep air circulating and open wall doors to let air in however this is completely impossible to do at night because there are so many moths, mosquitos and jungle bugs. None of the doors had screens on them so it was impossible to let air in, which means we all just suffered during the night with no ventilation. The first couple of days were aggravating. I will say the view is absolutely spectacular. To sum everything up. There's is no garbage deposal, so you literally have to pick food out with your hand which was gross, and made the kitchen smell really bad. the wifi was terrible, so bad they changed it out at the very end of our stay so we weren't really able have efficient use. There was a random dog that came on property several times after requesting not to have the dog on property. We cou

Interlude: From the picturesque landscape to the totality of awe-inspiring local experience, we would highly recommend the Hilltop Refuge over any resort experience. It's proximity to El Limón, Las Terranas, and Cosón, is only a stone-throw in regards to the experiences you will be subject. It is difficult to explain in a word-limited exposé, or even capture in a picture, the... utter magnificence of the world you are immersed in here. For those more, or less traveled, you'll find something here to charm and entice your appetite, sense of adventure, and the like. The beaches are plenty, local cuisine to die for, and cultural omnipresence evident. You will make new friends, be they expats or naturalized- and the smiles will survive in your mind for a lifetime. The property manager, Noelia, is a total doll! She is an enthusiastic, fun, and very "you-conscious" young lady and we feel very excited to have made a new friend! You'll have a personal concierge come each week-day to clean the sparkling pool, whom is very keen to your privacy and won't be a bother at all. We embraced his presence and had breakfast waiting for him. You'll be greeted by the daily hustle and bustle of motorbikes and commerce, which is something you must prepare yourself for, if per se, you are not used to driving in conditions very opposite that of the US or EU. None is meant in jest, so don't operate your vehicle as if it were so. As mentioned in other experiences, you absolutely should rent a 4X4 vehicle for no other case than ease of traversing the winding, but AMAZING drive to the residence. It is not impossible to do so with 2WD, but the terrain is something you don't want a compact car to have to endure. We lost power several times at the residence (which means WiFi as well), but it is hardly worth mentioning. What's worth mentioning in regards to this instance, if not discernible in the aforementioned text, is: Epilogue: The window to a world worth peering is not that of your iPad or electronic device. These windows exist in abundance at Hilltop Refuge (they really do- the whole house opens up). onsider your time here as a synapse in which the outside world can wait for your posting. Live, love, expand your boundaries, and ENJOY what has been created here. Your pictures and experiences will earn the +1's and Likes of your social peers, just don't commit yourself to reporting and miss the opportunity of living in the moments that will be so special to you and your entourage.

Our family had a fantastic Christmas in this beautiful, spacious home. The hosts were extremely responsive and flexible, and even helped arrange for us to already have groceries there and a meal cooked for us, as we arrived on Christmas Eve. We especially loved the beautiful swimming pool, with views out over the green hills, and the outdoor/indoor spaces for meals. Even the details of the house's decor--modern, bright and clean--were absolutely ideal. Nearly every bedroom also had its own private balcony space, making it easy to alternate between time alone and time together as a group. Just a gorgeous, fantastic place to stay, we recommend it highly.

We stayed at Villa Arboleda for around a week in August. Hands down - the best vacation ever. The residence is private, modern and beautiful. The house has everything you need, with little thoughtful gems sprinkled around - like board games. You can spend all day relaxing on the pool deck and not get tired of the gorgeous views.
I really recommend getting quad bikes to travel to and from the villa. Its really fun, safe, and easy to get around on them, and you can reach almost any destination in the area. There are plenty of things to do around LT, we visited multiple beaches, kite surfed, dined and hiked. Helps to know some Spanish.
Justin, Jennifer and their local manager Noelia are super accommodating and helped us figure out food and transportation to/from the airport. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting DR, from couples to families.

We stayed at Villa Arboleda for a week over spring break -- it was my husband and my two daughters (age 5 and 6). The house is spectacular -- hands down one of the nicest homes I've ever rented on vacation. The kitchen and living areas are huge, modern, airy. The deck and pool areas are amazing -- super views, great pool, my husband and I sat outside every night watching the stars and listening to the beautiful insect sounds. The setting is amazing -- high up on the hill, remote but close enough to LT for a drop in to get groceries, etc.
If there were any cons they are that the three downstairs bedrooms were a little far away for us with two younger kids. But those with older kids or a bunch of adults wouldn't even notice. Second, while I was thrilled to know that we were safe and secure, the constant presence of armed security guards who patrol the property was a little distracting. They were lovely people though, we kept sprite on hand for them after their monumental walk up hill -- but it sort of cut into the privacy aspect. But really just a small quibble.
LT is amazing and I'm highly recommending it to people I know. The town is just far enough off the radar that you feel like you've discovered something new, but the grocery store is great, well stocked. The people are fantastic -- very helpful, warm, fun.
This house is amazing -- when we return we will most certainly stay here. Justin and Jennifer were super helpful and accommodating, and their local manager, Noelia was lovely.

My family flew to DR from Panama, US, and Sweden to celebrate two birthdays. With 9 adults and 2 children, the house provided enough space for privacy and gatherings. We especially enjoyed the pool and the chef service provided by Rosy. The latter made the five nights at the house remarkable with her three-course menus.
Owners provided good information and were responsive to emails before arrival. Housekeeper was also very good about communication and providing extra service. It helps to speak Spanish and beware - the road up to the house is not for the faint-hearted.

On the plane ride home from our trip to the Dominican Republic, my boyfriend and I agreed that the the time we spent at the Arboleda was the best week of our lives.
Though there is an airport only 15 miles from the Arboleda, we flew into Santo Domingo, a 2-hour car trip away. We were initially nervous about the drive, but were welcomed with a beautiful highway, and scenic views of hilltops, fields and palm trees. Arriving at the Arboleda as the sun rose was an unforgettable experience.
Our days were spent swimming in the pool, quietly reading, and making trips into town for groceries and espresso and fresh juice at a little cafe called The Social Club. We were so relaxed, that our hectic, noisy lives back in Brooklyn seemed a million miles away.
Even though it was just the two of us, the house would be perfect for a part of 8 or 10. The outdoor dining table and sunken lounge area is perfect for late night conversations and excessive glasses of wine. Every night ends with an unobstructed view of twinkling stars and a nice, sweet breeze.
Our favorite feature of the house was its outdoor design; even at the hottest part of the day, there is always a shady spot to cool off and read a book. The pool stayed perfectly cool and refreshing, a feat for such a hot climate.
We'd go every month if we could. And whatever you do, don't miss the opportunity to visit Playa Bonita, just a 10-minute car ride away. It is, hands down, the most beautiful beach we've ever been to. Whenever I feel frantic and stressed, all I have to do is think of the calm waves of that beach.

My girlfriend's mother said it best: "This house is a little slice of Heaven." I couldn't agree more. We spent a week there and the time absolutely flew by. I knew it was going to be wonderful from the moment we arrived, when we were greeted by the housekeeper Noelia (who is delightful) and a fridge filled with cold beer and fresh fruit.
Where to begin? The house and the surrounding property is absolutely spotless and is built in a way that takes full advantage of amazing surroundings. As good as the pictures are, they do not do justice to this place. Noelia was there every day to clean the place up and she did an amazing job. The pool was spotless and refreshing as can be (the little bit of rainwater it got every day kept it from being too warm.) The beds were perfectly comfortable, there were more than enough towels and linens, and the i-Pod speaker system allowed us to have more than a few wild dance parties.
The drive from Santo Domingo really wasn't too bad at all, especially once you got outside of the city. The directions from the owners were spot-on and we didn't get lost once during the 2.5 hour drive. Also, the driveway to the property is admittedly rather steep, but we were able to still drive up it with our compact rental car (which had all the horsepower of a lawnmower.)
Las Terrenas was absolutely charming. We had a great time at Playa Bonita and had some great meals in the nearby restaurants and bars, especially El Salero and Mosquito Bar. Also, the more isolated Playa Coson was breath-takingly beautiful.
The hike to the waterfall of El Limon Salto is not to be missed. We had a great time, although it was a bit of a challenge getting there in the middle of a rainstorm. Also, we weren't quoted the 450 peso a person price for the guided tour until the tour was over. Nevertheless, it was a great hike and a beautiful sight to behold.
A slice of heaven, indeed.

Having done my fair share of traveling around the world, I must say that my stay at the Villa Arboleda was truly the most exceptional vacation. I felt like a rock star for my entire stay!
The house is magnificent, with a fantastic pool, sunken patio, two master suites and three additional bedrooms and the most picturesque roof-deck one could imagine. We took daily trips into the beautiful village of Las Terranas for trips to the market or to go out to dinner....we also enjoyed the stunning beaches of Playa Bonita and Playa Coson. One day, we ventured to the town of Limon and hiked to the waterfall ---- and we happen to have the best pictures you could ever hope for from a vacation.
I would highly recommend this house, and hope to be back soon!

The infinity pool with its fantastic of the wide, open sky, ocean and lush tropical landscape is my screensaver. This house is conducive to: lounging poolside with cocktails, dancing or doing yoga on the wooden deck, festive dinners with lively conversation, quiet reading or puzzle solving, sleeping in late or lolling around in bed. If you're a runner, you'll dig the hills leading up to the house. If you like to explore, the 50 meter waterfalls of Limon are very close and fun to take a horseback ride to before your swim. If you're a diver, there a sites nearby.
The house is very well-maintained, and we opted for the maid service and chef for two of our nights. Very affordable! The chef was about $20 per person and made food enough for the next day.
The layout is so spacious that everyone has their own space and the communal spaces are welcoming. It's peaceful and safe. The night sky view is amazing--you can see so many stars without light pollution.
I highly recommend gathering close friends (kids have fun here too) and whisking yourself off for well-deserved rest and recharging.

This villa is genuinely AWESOME and impressive in an L.A. star-quality way. The furnishings, equipment, linens, supplies etc. are wonderful and make it an easy and convenient place to stay. While getting there is hilly, bumpy and white-knuckled, it’s VERY WORTH IT once you arrive. I would describe the house as low-key luxury. It is modern, without being intimidatingly hi-tech. It is a luxuriously, “unplugged" retreat. Bring SUN BLOCK and A CAMERA. Views are so dreamy you want to be out a lot and the sun scorches. The sunken outdoor area is brilliant for lazing around without having to get a tan! Dress is so casual everywhere, that there's not much need to bring much. The community is accepting of lots offoreigners. It helps to speak Spanish or French, though you will get by without. It's EXTRAORDINARILY worth it to have Patrick come up and cook at the house. He can make local specialties and it feels really special to have that done for you. In all, it’s a wonderful getaway. Highly recommended.

We had such a wonderful time at Arboleda and I'm so grateful we could go. The house is gorgeous...it's so open, airy and it's so beautifully located in the hills overlooking the ocean. Absolutely breathtaking! I loved the design of the house with it's open layout...those huge shiftable glass doors are perfect....I felt like I was outdoors the entire time. We spent a ton of time in the outdoor lounge and pool area and the outdoor dinner area was the perfect spot for our bbq of local fish. It really helped us all unwind. To top it off, Las Terrenas is a great, eclectic town and we enjoyed both the local and European influences. The food was fantastic and the people were so friendly. We quickly developed a ritual of morning lattes at the French bakery before our beach time (you can take the girl out of the city, but...). It was a memorable trip and was difficult to say goodbye.

Villa Arboleda is amazingly well-designed. It is a rare home that it is as functional and comfortable as it is breathtakingly beautiful, Arboldea is one such house. Making dinner for ten in the large airy kitchen is a snap (whether by local chef or a houseful of friends), the bedrooms offer privacy but have great views, the landscaping is beautiful, the common areas are fantastic for socializing, and the outdoor space is stunning. We spent a week there last July and spent every single day in or around the infinity pool - we didn't want to leave the house. We will book here again and highly recommend it to people who want experience the Dominican Republic without the inclusive resorts.
Doug, the house manager, is friendly and helpful. Town is a quick drive down the hill and stocking up on food and beverage is easy and fun. I recommend having the chef prepare dinner at least a few nights because the meals are delicious and it's great to be on vacation and not have to do clean-up. The chef is well worth the price!

A party of five of us stayed here for a week and had an excellent time. Arboleda is stunning - the pool, the sunken deck; the kitchen; the balconies. Its the kind of place that still puts a smile on your face even after you've been there a few days. The view across the jungle down to ocean is breathtaking, as is the drive down the mountain to the main road. The english property manager and his wife are just down the hill and were helpful both for basic maintenance and for local tips - for instance they set up our surf lessons. Las Terrenas is a fun town. There is a good range of experiences from the fully local to the fully western. We ate out at a range of different types of restaurant, and also cooked at Arboleda - the kitchen is well equipped; there's a good gas grill for bbq and local food stores have a solid range of stuff. The beaches and ocean are beautiful. You definitely ought to rent a vehicle that has high clearance because the road surfaces aren't great, and also some of the coolest places to visit to are "off piste". If you want a combination of luxury/style; want to have a bit of adventure and be in DR (as opposed to being behind the gates of a resort) then this is a great option. We're definitely going back!

My sisters and I visited this beautiful house in March and had a fabulous time! The town was safe and there was a ton of fun stuff to do. Restaurants were delicious and very reasonably priced. We rented a car and drove around the island. The beaches were gorgeous and the weather perfect. We especially loved the serene and lovely location of the house away from the town and crowds and afternoon swims in the phenomenal pool!

My four sisters and I went to the Arboleda in March and it was glorious. This hilltop retreat is away from the crowds and havoc of New York. The house is gorgeous and well-maintained and the pool is perfect for these hot afternoons in the Caribbean sun. The island is filled with fun things to do with yummy food at a ton of restaurants and very reasonably priced. We rented a car and motored around the idland stopping en route when we saw anything we liked (shops, a beach, sightseeing, markets, etc.). I would fly into the local airport, El Portillo, that is close to the house and then the property manager can pick you up and take you into town and help you rent the car. The town feels completely safe and we had no concerns about that. Happy to tell anyone more if you want to reach me.
