We named our mountain home “Almost Heaven” because when we are there, that is exactly what it feels like to us. At 3,000 feet in elevation, we are close to the stars at night, to the clouds by day and we are witness to gorgeous sunrises and sunsets all year long. When the summer heat is burning up the low lands we have fresh, cool breezes and even sweater weather in the evenings. We look out 40 miles to Mt. Mitchell in the north, ten mountain ranges to where the sun sets in the west and 60 miles to a flat line in the south. We are surrounded by nature, astronomy and meteorology, yet we are a short 35 minute drive to Biltmore House and the excellent restaurants of downtown Asheville, and 20 minutes from Black Mountain and its quaint shops, restaurants, and gigantic grocery stores. We hear the wind in the leaves and catch the sweet smell of Rhododendron and Mountain Laurel in the springtime; we pick wild blackberries in the summer and listen to songbirds all day. We frequently encounter deer, wild turkey and even bobcats, yet we live in a modern, luxurious home with a gourmet kitchen, satellite TV, instant hot water, wonderful beds and mattresses, and windows everywhere to frame the beauty that is all around us. Our home is built for both togetherness and privacy: the family room has a monumental stone fireplace surrounded by leather sofas, the covered side porch serves as an outdoor dining area, the basement offers ping-pong and Foosball tables and three-quarters of the home is surrounded by decks and rockers – while every one of the four bedrooms has its own private porch for personal conversation or quiet reading time away from the larger group. It is the best of all worlds: natural, yet very civilized; remote yet convenient; private yet communal. It is Almost Heaven. We would love to share it with you!

We had a wonderful stay at Almost Heaven. The owners are very helpful with communication and in providing details as we prepared to visit the area. The house was amazing and the views are spectacular. We hope to visit again another time.

Almost Heaven has to be experienced to believe. The views are beyond captivating. Our family of five were more than comfortable in this well appointed home. Highly recommend!!!

Almost Heaven is an amazing property! The house is very nice, super clean, and well stocked. The views are incredible and this was a perfect place for our family. We made trips to the Biltmore and downtown Asheville then retreated to the very quite paradise that is Almost Heaven.

The home was as advertised. Clean, well equipped and a great view. Had a great time.

The cabin was well equipped with whatever you might need. The owner responded very quickly with my one question upon arrival. The cabin is not very close to much of the hiking trails, so expect lengthy drives. Overall, it is a nicely kept cabin that is also very spacious.

Outstanding property in the mountains. Very clean and spacious and the 4 bedrooms were very nice and clean. Really a nice house with beautiful views of the area. Highly recommend!

Third time visit for a girls retreat. Perfect location, lovely views, great times sitting outside joying the mountains. The house was immaculately clean and had everything we need for cooking and cocktails. Annette the hostess could not have been more helpful and easy to work with.
It’s ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️in our book.!

It was awesome for our family of eight. The views were incredible and the home had everything we needed to enjoy our stay.

It lives up to its name! The views were breathtaking and the house was beautiful!
The owners provided so many extras like games, key board, hammock etc.
The only small thing was the water pressure was a bit low and the road to the house a bit narrow and steep. I would still go back in a heart beat though!
Thanks again!

We had a great time, the views were amazing. Also really enjoyed the ping pong table and fooseball table in the basement.

Peaceful, comfortable, restful! Had everything we needed, and more. Drive up the Mountain not for sissy’s!
Get groceries for your stay at Ingles in Black Mountain, fabulous supermarket. Should you decide not to venture one day, have enough food to manage for the day!

Views from the property were beautiful, we even saw a rainbow on two nights while we were there. The house nicely accommodated our family. Communication and check in were very easy and the instructions were perfect. The ride to the house takes some time to get used to the uphill climb and narrow roadways. We had a wonderful time

This house was perfect! We went for a hike and a visit around Lake Lure, but our favorite time was sitting on the back porch and just talking. Owner’s instructions and list of things to do were very helpful. We would highly recommend.!

Came up with a group of friends to celebrate my husband’s 50th anniversary. Chose the location because the photos in the listing were beautiful (and they are completely accurate) and it’s close enough to drive to places if you want to go do something. We went into Asheville and Black Mountain but we were all happy to head back to the house to hang out on the porch. We definitely want to come back. Annette was so sweet and helpful to work with.

Gracious, well appointed, calming, beautiful, comfortable, clean, overall most excellent. We wanted to be centrally located to as many waterfalls as possible. We were. We wanted to be in a quiet place with no light pollution. We were. We wanted views! We got them. My husband and I needed this getaway more than we knew...we got so much more than we asked for. The last couple of days our granddaughters joined us. They enjoyed the stay as much as we did. I just cannot gush enough. And the hosts! Super responsive to my emails, which were few because we didn't need to ask much of them at all. They had anticipated every single detail.

The ease of renting this property on VRBO was much appreciated. There check in & out process was a breeze.

Great property and service. How nice to stay at a venue where the online photo understates the experience. Extremely well furnished, great kitchen.

House is a climb to get to; but if you want the views you won't find better. House was clean, and beds comfortable.

This home was absolutely incredible, and the pictures do not do the view justice. We had a family trip with two little ones (2.5 years and an infant), as well as grandparents, and everyone fully enjoyed the stay. The home is further out from nearby cities, so heed the owner's advice and stop at the store on your way in! The drive to get to the top of the ridge takes some time, but is definitely worth it for the views. The basement with ping pong and foosball was an awesome, unexpected plus! We are certainly hoping to stay at this home again.

We loved our stay at this house! As the reviews have mentioned, driving the roads is not for the faint of heart, or those who are not accustomed to winding mountain roads, especially in rain/fog. Luckily, we are from New England and are accustomed to this driving. The house was perfect. Fully stocked fridge, the comfiest beds, extremely clean, and the most amazing views. It’s about 40 minutes driving from downtown Asheville, but it’s worth it to have this secluded space. We would totally recommend!

Heavenly
Almost Heaven was simply heavenly! We enjoyed the many awesome views of the cabin, especially the stunning sunsets! Our family: hiked the area waterfalls, visited the Biltmore Estate and enjoyed a day in Asheville. If you are considering this cabin don't think twice. We all left the cabin refreshed and blessed!

Almost Heaven did not disappoint! Our group of 7 found the house to be well appointed, beautifully maintained, and the views can't be beat! The house had everything we needed to cook family meals (the kitchen is well stocked with cook and serving ware), sit and enjoy the sunsets, and relax with family indoors during the heatwave! Google maps was definitely helpful as you are winding up the mountain, lots of hairpin turns! Annette (the owner) was prompt and responsive to questions, and offered very detailed information about the property, nearby attractions, and what to expect during our stay. Great hosts!

We arrived about an hour before sunset and we were amazed by the views. Even more spectacular in person! The wrap around porch with 2 sets of tables/chairs plus rocking chairs and a hammock was fantastic. We shared several meals outside and could not have had nicer weather for our long weekend. The house was very comfortable with lots of space and light. Ceiling fans in the bedrooms was a plus. There were some issues with the water pressure doing showers, but that's to be expected at this elevation. We had such a great weekend and we picked the perfect house in a location that was an easy drive to Asheville, Black Mountain and Lake Lure. You should definitely visit the falls within the community that the owner recommends...we brought a picnic lunch and spent a few hours enjoying this location that's just 10 minutes from the house. We hope to visit again in the future! Highly recommend.

Rented this home with a few friends for a long weekend and had an amazing time. Beautiful, secluded home in the mountains with amazing views all around.
The home itself is very well maintained and a great size for up to 8 people. Being in a gated neighborhood provides security and is a short enough drive to downtown Asheville to spend the entire day an evening there before heading home. Would highly recommend staying here!

Almost Heaven was an amazing stay for a girl's weekend. We planned ahead and had some groceries and Black Mountain is not far so we were also able to go there for more things. It is all the way at the top of the mountain and the sunsets and night sky were amazing. Not far from Asheville either so it's a great place to stay if you want to mix both relaxing time indoors with some sight seeing or hiking. House was clean, directions were easy to follow, and plenty of supplies within the house. Thank you!
