About this cottage rental
Kevalli House is situated on 11+ acres of oceanfront land on Stocking Island, the barrier island that forms Elizabeth Harbor. Because there are no motorized vehicles on the island and access is by boat only, much of the land on Stocking Island is pristine. This five mile long island contains only seven home sites of which Kevalli House is the furthest west.
A pavilion at the highest point on the property, 65 feet, offers a panoramic view of Elizabeth Harbor, the neighboring islands, and open waters of the ocean. Looking down on the beach directly behind Kevalli House, you can see a very rare stromatolite reef, thought to be one of the oldest forms of life on the planet and known to exist in just a few places in the world. At low tide they form beautiful natural soaking pools along the shore which can be quite a relaxing place to enjoy the crystal clear waters.
The Kevalli House guest cottage facility forms a nicely designed cluster of three buildings. The common area between the buildings is a sitting area which also adjoins the two identical wings, one on the east and one on the west. This layout is ideal for two couples, as it allows for privacy and offers ample space for everyone. Both wings offer several comfortable areas for sunning and reading. Each is designed for a comfortable extended stay, with a fully equipped kitchen, spacious bathroom, dining area, and sitting area. A separate bedroom area behind French doors has an adjustable queen bed and sliding glass door leading out to a private deck. *Occasionally we will rent the wings separately. Please contact us for availability and details.
The second-story covered deck above the sitting area overlooks the tree canopy and provides a tranquil place to catch island breezes and enjoy a beautiful vista of the harbor. A walkway on the front side of the cottage leads to the pavilion described earlier. Another path leads through natural foliage consisting of a wide variety of native plant species and finally to another covered deck overlooking the ocean side beach. On the very front of the property is a 200 foot long fixed dock which provides access to the cove. This protected body of water features two of the famous Bahamian blue holes. Mystery Cave is considered one of the best snorkeling spots in the area and is within snorkeling distance of the dock, or you may choose to use some of the kayaks that are available. Great snorkeling is also found "ocean-side". A floating dock provides access for small boats.
Kevalli House is a very eco-friendly choice. We are 99% solar-powered and meet our water needs by collecting rain water. We try to limit our impact on the environment as much as possible by using environmentally-friendly cleaning products, recycling, reusing, and reducing. Our paths are lit with solar-powered lights, fans and island breezes keep our rooms cool, and numerous windows catch evening breezes very effectively.
A 20 minute cab ride takes you from the airport to the government dock in George Town where the water taxi picks you up for the ride to Kevalli House. In George Town there are numerous businesses, including a well-stocked grocery store, car rental, boat rental, straw market, library, and a nice variety of restaurants. The Bahamas has over 300 sunny days a year, crystal clear warm water, and some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, one of which is right in the backyard of Kevalli House.

Sailed in on our boat to stay and meet friends.
The property was amazing and the caretaker, Norman, was wonderful. He was very helpful, took us back and fourth to main island whenever we wanted to go. We were able to tie up to the dock, which was very helpful for us. The property could use a little bit of maintenance but otherwise was really nice.

Great location. Loved the ability to be on the beach or be protected on the bay side.
Our host was excellent with help on things to do and places to go.
A little limited on amenities but the location makes up for it. We had the beach to ourselves and loved having our morning coffee at the upper gazebo looking over the ocean.

Excellent and loved the location!
House was clean and and very nice. The only thing that this property needs more of is fans. The evenings were a bit muggy and hot, so a few more fans would have been nice.
Norman is excellent, always there to taxi you to town and full of great information. We will be back!.
Bob was very responsive with all our questions, great to do business with. Thanks for everything, great memories for our family!

Adventure at your fingertips!
We had an amazing time staying on Stocking Island. As my kids (ages 11 &13) said, all the things we wanted to do from snorkeling, hiking, swimming, paddle boarding to climbing a tree were all right at our fingertips and we could do without having to rent an item or drive to it. That was a huge bonus! Kevalli House was a clean, wonderful property with amazing views -- we loved climbing up to the Pavillion! And a bonus was the ping pong table at the Cottages -- I don't think my kids asked for screen time once while staying at Kevalli. Bob was a knowledgeable and kind host! We loved him sharing his home and Stocking Island with us. As Bob says, this is definitely a place to be independent, which we loved, but we had to be organized too, especially with meals. The kitchen we had was simple, and we were able to get good food supplies from George Town, but going out to a restaurant took some planning. It was lots of fun to kayak to Chat and Chill and see/feed the stingrays.

Beautiful setting, friendly people, authentic experience
Ok. I am at a point where I want to experience real. Meet real people and do real things. This is one of those places. Dave took us in a dingy to st Francis for open mic night. Snorkel from the dock. Talk to people from all over the world that have a passion for boating like Philip and Bridget that shared a bottle of wine with us on our last night.
The house is comfortable. Lots of room to spread out. Groceries, bone fishing and scuba are a $15 taxi ride away. The property and it’s surrounding wilderness are stunning. 300 or 400 ft takes you from the Atlantic side to the harbor.
We make it a rule not to return to the same place twice. We will come back here.

Wonderful & Secluded
We had a lovely time at this very comfortable cottage. The beds were comfortable, the cottage was roomy & the grounds & pavilions provided amazing views and access to the beach. The trails around the island are so fun to explore!
The things I see that could be improved: *provide more than 2 bath towels per room. The island is damp and the towels were a bit musty by the end of the trip, even hanging them on the line to dry.
*provide a small boat to get to Chat n Chill or Georgetown or some of the other beaches on the island since access is very limited from Kevalli by foot (Norman was great to help us when we needed a ride, but we would have gotten to do more had we our own boat) We used the kayaks and paddle boards provided but several days were very windy and this made it very difficult to get anywhere.
*an electric coffee maker would be nice (we had a press and it was ok, but a coffee maker would have been better)
We loved the cottage and the island and Norman was always helpful when we needed a ride or anything at all. We would come back here again for sure!!

Heaven on earth.
We visited Kevalli House on Stocking Island for a week in April 2014 and again in October 2015, with close friends. Our party consisted of four adults and two children who perfectly fit into one of the comfortable and clean Villa’s that are available to rent. When we needed anything extra or had any questions about Stocking Island, Georgetown or day-excursions away from Stocking Island, Bob Cronin, the owner was readily available to supply us with all the information and arrangements we were looking for.
Whether you are an adult or a child, the turquoise waters and soft white sand beaches surrounding Kevalli House are what one dreams of when paradise comes to mind. We found Kevalli House particularly special because of the privacy, beauty, tranquility and relaxing atmosphere. Just a week here rebooted us all and provided the happiest of memories to last us a lifetime. It is the most idyllic vacation. One in which we have and will continue to revisit.

A relaxing and beautiful place
We stayed in the separate house which is comfortable and clean and has a relaxed vibe. It is not high end and modern and is not trying to be. It is more like a beach house or large family cabin. The screened in veranda kept bugs to a minimum which was nice at night. The kitchen is well stocked and has everything you need.
We have generally stayed at beach front houses in the past not far from grocery stores and shops. This is different as you have to get a water taxi or have access to a boat to go across the harbour to shop. Planning is needed.
When we booked I was not sure about not being right on the beach. Once there you realize how unique this place is. The island is thin and you have access to both sides. On one side is the clear calm inner harbour (holes) with lovely snorkelling, kayaking and paddle boarding. Paddle to chat and chill! On the other side 2 min away is a wonderful long beach that only seemed to have our family on it most of the day. The small pools that formed between the stromatolites at the end of the day were perfect to relax in. We did not have very small kids but they would be perfect even for small kids to enjoy.
As others have said sitting at the pavilions with the 360 views is wonderful.
One thing to remember is that this is off the grid so conservation of water and energy is important. You need to be careful with water usage and remember to switch off lights. It provides a reminder of how much we all may be wasting back at our homes. Good learning opportunity for every one especially kids.
Bob is a wonderful host. He made sure we had everything we needed and provided lots of information and facts about the island. He even gave me a boat lesson on the way over to pick up a rental boat.
The cost is reasonable compared to many other places we have stayed in.
Overall it was a great experience and vacation. Would go back.

A Slide of Paradise
It’s almost impossible to describe how beautiful, natural and peaceful Kevalli House on Stocking Island is. Kevalli gives you the best access to pristine beaches and gorgeous ocean views, as well as scenic hiking trails and great kayaking and swimming spots on Stocking Island. We have stayed in the cottages and the guest house, and both options are great - comfortable, off-grid, eco-friendly and secluded.
If you are looking for a unique Caribbean holiday, this beats the ‘resort’ experience hands down. There really is no comparison. Trade in noisy swimming pools, nondescript hotel rooms and busy beaches for chirping birds, miles of empty beaches, awesome snorkeling and stunning sunsets.
Get all the groceries you need in Georgetown, only a short water taxi away or kayak over to Chat ‘n’ Chill for fries, conch salad and a Kalik. You’ll meet great people, and like us, will be planning your return before your holiday is even over.

Kevalli Phenomenal House
The Kevalli House is a dream world reincarnated. You literally have your own paradise wihtout the shallow pleasantries that come with your typical stay. But, when you are craving these human interactions you can literally paddle board or kayak 10 minutes or less to Chat and Chill and hang out with the sailors and the people who live on the island or nearby. It is a magnificent place. The massive amounts of outdoor oasis's that exist strike your insides in ways you couldn't possibly imagine. There is a pavillion that overlooks a three mile long beach that is literally secluded other than the random walker who is more interested in the waves and the beauty than they are in socializing with you. It is a spiritual dream - you can run, walk, swim, ride the waves and find a part of your heart and heat the regular world doesn't allow for. Every year our family converges from california to New York to Germany to Alaska and we revel in the freshness and the aesthetic we cannot get anwhere else. One of the things we love most is the fact that we can cook together and set up beautiful dinner parties in the outdoor spaces. It is truly the kind of place you can't explain to outsiders because there is nothing like it and you know as soon as you arrive that no one will understand what you've seen. Lasly, the host family is brilliantly amazing. Bob is a laid back creator of worlds that, if you get to know, willl teach you all kind of oddities. Allison, his daughter, is a mover and shaker - she surfs, boats, builds and communicates with inspiration. Everyone they invite into their haven is someone you want to know. Get on it and get there.

A perfect Island Getaway
We had an amazing week long stay at Kevalli House with my wife and inlaws. The family are wonderful hosts and ensure you have a wonderful and peaceful visit. We were in the Marina building which has two bedrooms and a lot of open shared space. It was a perfect space for our extended family getaway with enough privacy between the two areas but also ample opportunity to be together. My extended family were on boats in the harbor it the location was perfect to visit with them and even host a few gatherings.
The look outs and lounging spaces are unmatched. There is complete privacy and the views are priceless. There is direct access to the calm harbor as well as the beautiful ocean side beach which both offer endless activities: snorkeling, running, walks, body surfing, sailing, kite boarding, wind surfing, exploring, etc.
The accommodation is clean, updated and has a ton of character. With on site solar electrical generation and the use of rainwater, the houses are truly off the grid eco-accommodation.
I would suggest Kevalli house for anyone who is interested in non-conventional accommodations (ie. hotels) and is looking for a fun filled vacation in tone of the most beautiful places in the world with a privacy whenever it is needed. Amazing stay and I am sure we will be back.

Can't Wait to Return!
We had an absolutely wonderful time on Stocking Island at Kevalli House! It was our first trip to the Exumas and we were already planning a trip back to the area before we even flew home. We just spent a week on Little Exuma, which was wonderful, but are planning to return to Stocking Island this December.
We have been to many places in the Caribbean but we have not seen water so clear and beautiful before. We fell in love with the island and really enjoyed out stay at the house. This was truly an adventure vacation for us as we spent the days hiking, swimming, snorkeling and exploring. The island has a myriad of hiking trails that lead to secluded beaches. Each morning we would chart out a course, pack some snacks and our snorkel gear and head out. Our 6 year old daughter did really well on days we hiked up to 5 miles and enjoyed the adventure with us.
The house has easy access to the Atlantic side which has more turbulent water. We loved sitting up in the gazebo and watching the sunset. Most days we rarely saw a person on this side of the island. On the other side, there is access to a dock with kayaks we used to get to Chat N’ Chill for drinks and dinner, and their delicious conch salad.
There are two houses on the property. We stayed at The Cottages and enjoyed a nice breeze through the house. The property is fairly self-sustaining, utilizing rain water and solar power. It was perfectly fine to be without air conditioning in December as the breeze and temperatures were moderate. Bob is a wonderful owner and made us feel very welcome!

Beyond Amazing!
This was our first trip to the Bahamas and our expectations didn't come close to the reality. The turquoise, clear water and white sand beaches were exquisite. The snorkeling, scuba diving and fishing (with Neville) were amazing. And the Kevalli House was the perfect retreat. The owner, Bob, couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful, constantly giving us the history of the area as well as recommendations for dinner, hikes and snorkeling. The guest house was clean and well stocked even with great cooking knives! The screened in porch made for some very fun ping pong tournaments and for those who are interested, Bob has a large selection of DVD's to borrow from. It was quiet and the paths down to the dock or to the ocean on the other side were well maintained. There are two pavilions to chose from if you want to read in the shade overlooking the most incredible view you could ever imagine. We rented a boat from Minn's which we highly recommend so that you can easily get from Stocking Island into town and around the area. We gave this trip 5 stars. The only disappointment is that we had to leave...but we definitely will be back!

C & D
We had such an amazing time for the second year in a row at Kevalli House.
From the moment you arrive, Bob makes you feel incredibly welcome. The setting is unlike anything we had ever experienced. Several times a day you come across some kind of incredible scene from nature...sunsets, clear moon over the water, gorgeous shades of turquoise, exquisite skies and ocean everywhere. Thank you Bob for sharing your piece of heaven with us.

One of our favorite places!
If you are looking for peace and serenity, Kevalli House has it! The cottages are nestled into the leeward side of the hill on Stocking Island. We came with another couple and each had our own cottage joined by a screened breezeway. It was perfect for us! We were close together, but weren't falling over each other. It is so quiet and peaceful, but don't think you'll be bored! There is so much to do there as well - kayaking, snorkling, beach combing, body surfing, or enjoying a book at the pavilion at the top of the hill - which was by FAR our favorite place to spend time. With 360 views of Elizabeth Harbour, the hurricane holes and Exuma Sound, you can spend hours there watching the waves crash on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Bahamas. Although we cooked and ate many of our meals at the house, there are several restaurants on the island that serve incredible food and drinks! Bob and Catherine are very friendly and great sources of information about anything you'll want to know about the area. We'll be back!!

A Bahamian Gem
What a special corner of the earth Kevalli House is. Remote, unique and well worth the effort to get there. A true Bahamian gem. Our family of 8 arrived before Christmas and were more than comfortable between the two houses. Plenty of space to spread out and find your own space with many common/community areas for dining and recreating together. A two minute walk through the well maintained property puts you on Stocking Island's oceanside coral sand which is perfect for beach lovers of all ages. Tidal pools and sandcastles for the 2 and 3 year old grandchildren with snorkeling, body surfing and long beach walks for the rest. Two pavilions over looking the beach create a perfect midday sun retreat for reading, general lounging as well as sunset/sunrise vigils. In front of the houses is a totally protected harbor, perfect for swimming, kayaking and some small fish snorkeling. Other more protected beaches including Honeymoon and Sand Dollar are a short boat ride away. The consummate host/owner introduced us to the property and helped us with a few details. He was always available with an up beat "no question is too small" attitude. A good time had by all and we look forward to our next visit. If you want to separate yourself from the "real world" for a week or two this is the place.

BEAUTIFUL ISLAND VACATION IN ONE OF A KIND HOME FOR FAMILY OF FIVE
If you truly want to experience the peace, beauty, and true relaxation of the Outer Islands of Exuma, you must stay in this one of a kind, incredibly beautiful Stocking Island home! Nestled in a perfect location, between the tranquil harbor and magnificent ocean, this home is perfect! It is even more beautiful than the photos depict, and it is so peaceful you can hear the waves crashing and the birds singing every morning and early evening. The house was spotlessly clean, and the owner provided all the kitchen cutlery, utensils, pots and pans, cups, and glasses you would ever need. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the warm breezes perfect! Bob was a lovely host, and fulfilled any request we had during our vacation. Be sure to ask Bob about his friend Jenice who makes a wonderful variety of homemade necklaces, earrings, hair ornaments and much more made out of the shells of the Exumas! We purchased many lovely trinkets from her as souvenirs and gifts. The stromolites on the beach are just amazing, with tiny pools filled with seashells and little sea creatures. We have never seen the variety of blues in the water that we saw at the Stocking Island Beach. It was like watching a Van Gogh painting come to life with the sun twinkling on the hues of blue waves as they summersaulted onto the beach. We walked along the beach two or three times a day and sat daily on both the high deck, and the midsize deck just above the beach for the morning sunrise and evening sunset. Bob kindly gave us two glass-bottomed kayaks that we used to see and feed the myriad of fish at the Mystery Cave. The water in the harbor was calm so it was very easy to kayak! We also snorkeled over to the Mystery Cave as well. There was also a wonderful common room where our family enjoyed music, ping pong and playing darts, very family friendly!!!! All the spots on the island are within walking distance, and a must see are the stingrays at the Chat n Chill. We also saw beautiful starfish as well in the sand at the Chat n Chill and had fantastic food at the place as well. Be sure to take the water ferry over to Georgetown and enjoy the reasonably priced wares of the Straw Market, and the culinary delights of the Driftwood Cafe. Bob is a wonderful conversationalist too about island culture, boating, and ecology. Note: rent a boat early from Minns if you want to see other cays. You will not want to leave this island of Paradise or Kevalli House when the vacation ends!

True Vacation!!!
We absolutely love this place. We stayed in the 2 bedroom guest house and it was perfect for my husband and I. Loved the decor and the wrap around screened porch. It was right on the waters edge. Beautiful and relaxing. Bob and Katherine were both very nice. They were there for us if we needed something, but also gave us privacy. Sitting up at the pavillion on the oceanside is so tranquil and amazing. We had a chance to sit and chat with Bob. What a nice, personable and knowledgeable man he is. Walking the beaches of Stocking Island makes you feel like you are the only people that exist, yet a short boat ride across the harbour gets you a well stocked grocery store and shopping. The straw market is a must! We are so lucky to have experienced this place and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a true vacation. Big D's Sand Bar and Grill is a short boat ride away or you can walk there from the oceanside. It is a must if you love meeting people from all over the world. We can not wait to go back to the Kevalli House. Next time we are going to take our children. Being here really makes you realize how amazing the earth is when you take care of it. We came home so much more aware and appreciative. Thank you so much Bob and Catherine. We hope to see you again soon.

We are repeat customers!
We returned again this year for another week at Kevalli House. This time we brought friends. They want to bring their entire family and rent all the houses on a future visit. If anything, it was even better this year. The weather was perfect, the cottages are very comfortable and the many viewing pavillions on the property are great for reading, relaxing and being mesmerized by the views. Exuma market is a very good island market providing all the provisions you would need to cook-in but there are also two island beach bars that serve great food and a restaurant associated with another resort that has a good menu. There are a couple of liquour stores that sell beer and wine. We recommend renting a boat from Minns and keeping it with you the entire visit - it serves as your "rental car" as you go everywhere by boat. Navigation is not difficult in Elizabeth harbor. Even non boaters wouldn't have problems as long as they can steer a boat. When you get tired of relaxing, there are island trails on which you can walk for several miles and a refreshing swim is never far away if you decide to stop and take a break. It's paradise - we love it. Bob and Catherine are conscientious hosts and friendly, not to mention very interesting people. We always seem to meet interesting people in the Georgetown area. The Bahamians are gracious and friendly also.

My new husband and I just had our wedding at this green property, and there is simply no exaggerating how perfect these cottages are. It would literally take a novelist to justly describe the absolute beauty of the land the property sits on. The private beach is honestly the most gorgeous beach I have seen ever... and I live in Miami and frequent plenty of them in the Caribbean. The water is pristine, even my sister couldn’t stay out (and she hates the ocean). When you first pull up to the property (by boat), the dark wooden deck is multilevel and sits next to a blue hole (which you can kayak above…I recommend one of the glass bottom ones available at the property). You then wind your way up through beautiful stonework and to the mid-height of the property where the cottages are. There are private decks to the cottages, a gorgeous gazebo atop of them (beautiful view of the harbor), and an area in between the cottages (covered and screened) that serves as a common area. The work that has gone into these two cottages is immense and truly paid off. We loved playing ping pong, listening to music, and just relaxing with our family in the common area. At night, I highly recommend going to the highest pavilion (there are THREE!) to look at the stars, which are as bright as I have seen them. You can go to the Chat n chill from this property, St Francis, or you can just grill where you’re at. I would recommend taking a boat ride into town to get some groceries (as there are kitchens in the cottages) and to see the locals (whose kindness truly added a lot of value to our wedding as well). You can also rent a car for the day and head to Tropic of Cancer Beach, which is a surreal experience in itself. If you are looking for a naturally stunning backdrop for whatever the goal of your vacation is and if you love nature and truly doing things the island way, this property is beyond words. Not to mention, the owner of the property is easily one of the most amazing people we have ever had the privilege of meeting; he made us feel exceptionally welcome and truly treated us beyond any expectation we had for the most pertinent week of our lives. It was truly a blessing to have happened upon it, and the time we spent at this property was the perfect way to start our marriage.

We just spent a wonderful "off the grid" week at Kevalli House with our two "tweeners" over the Thanksgiving holiday. The cottage facility was perfect for our family, Mom & Dad in one section and the two kids in the other, with plenty of common space for all. The views from the upper deck and hilltop pavillion were spectacular and we all spent lots of time just hanging out in both places. I took long walks each morning on the oceanside beach and only saw one other person one morning, while the kids gathered coconuts from the property, husked them and then cracked them open for all to enjoy. The cottage was a great base for our on daily "on the water" activities. We rented a Whaler from Minns Watersports in Georgetown which served as our "transporation" for the week. We snorkeled and explored new beaches/reefs each day. When we weren't out and about exploring in the Whaler, we used the glassbottom kayaks to explore the areas closer to the House. And, we ended each afternoon with a snorkel from the Kevalli House dock over to the famous Mystery Hole! All in all it was amazing week. If you are looking to get away from it all in paradise, then Kevalli House if the place to go. We are already trying to make plans to go back!
5.0 / 10.0
My husband and I stayed at Kevalli House for three nights in April 2010. We were travelling the Bahamas and decided to leave our boat at the Kevalli House Marina for the summer season. We were pleased to find out that the facility included rental cottages as we needed a place to stay while decommissioning the boat. The cottage was delightful. Clean and well cared for, incredible views, access to an ocean-side beach that is perhaps the best we have seen so far in our travels. The owner was helpful and knowledgeable about the cottages, marina and surrounding area. The cottage is self-catering so you do have to come prepared to shop locally. Access to George Town and shopping is via water taxi, which the owner can arrange for you. Overall, we were pleased with Kevalli House and would recommend this property to friends and family.
