About this cottage rental
You will love our charming, clean 2 bedroom lakeside cottage, on the shores of Winnipesaukee, located in West Alton, NH. We believe it has the best view on the lake! And is available to rent from June to mid-October. Pet-friendly fenced property. Non-barking, well-behaved dogs welcome, upon approval, at no extra charge,
Perfect size for a family with 2-4 kids or 1 or 2 couples. Maximum number of people sleeping at the cottage is 6.
From seniors to little kids this a great spot for all ages. Being lakeside on Winnipesaukee you will love relaxing by the lake and looking out at the view. You will enjoy swimming in the crystal clear water with a beautiful sandy bottom.
We provide 3 kayaks and 2 paddle boards for your use and the dock is available if you have a boat. (We can suggest boat rentals)
Built by my grandfather in 1927 we’ve modernized it over the years to be very comfortable and have the amenities we all require. Everyone who has ever visited comments on how country cozy and beautiful the cottage is and how unbelievable the view is!
Both the outdoor fireplace and the fire pit at the waters edge are available for your use in the evenings. Often you can hear the the call of the loons on the lake. It is so peaceful.
There is a hammock for a nap by day and to gaze at the stars by night.
The are 2 rocking chairs and several adirondack chairs to relax in on the dock while looking out at the lake, islands and the Ossipee Mountain Range.
Winnipesaukee is the perfect lake for boating. You can go to Wolfeboro for the biggest best ice cream cone ever, Alton Bay for a yummy lunch at Pops Clam Shack, visit the Weirs for arcades and more, and our favorite restaurant in Meredith for lunch is Town Docks where you can eat outside on a glorious day! All of these places and more are available by car as well.
There are lots of great restaurants… it’s just a 10 minute car ride to one of our favorites, Ellacoya, where they have daily specials and the food is always delicious.
If you like to cook at home it’s less than 15 minutes to Beans and Greens for fresh veggies. They even have fresh baked pie. (Blueberry is our favorite) Shaw’s and Hannaford are the closest grocery stores just a few minutes from Beans and Greens.
A favorite of many is to swim from our cottage to the “Point” (Smith’s Point) along the shoreline in the morning. Or go out for an early morning kayak to catch the sunrise.
Great outlet shopping is about 30 minutes away in Tilton. Terrific shopping for souvenirs and boutique clothes are in Gilford, Meredith, Wolfeboro and Laconia. Funspot is not far for arcades and bowling and there are several mini golf locations close by. There is a 3-ring binder at the cottage with info on area attractions, restaurants and more.
If relaxing at the most beautiful spot on Winni seems good to you we hope you’ll inquire for more info.
Well behaved dogs welcome with approval.

We had the most amazing time at the cottage. Beautiful weather, excellent accommodations, and plenty of water toys. This is our fourth time renting here and we make memories for a lifetime every visit. Thank you for such great accommodations!

This is our second time staying at this property and we absolutely love it. Even though the weather was a little rocky, we still made many good memories with family. We look forward to staying there in the future.

This is a lovely waterfront cottage in a beautiful and peaceful spot on the lake. It is extremely clean and well appointed, very welcoming and comfortable. It has all the amenities you could want for a vacation at the lake! It was a wonderful week and I look forward to staying there again next year!

Well equipped cottage on Lake Winnipesaukee.
Super quiet neighborhood, but sparsely populated the first week of June.
Nice dock in a bay with loons, ducks, and the best view ever!

It was like coming home and going away at the same time. Since it was our third stay at ‘our cottage,’ we settled in quickly. In some ways, though, it was very different. We weren’t able to bring up our boat this time. My husband the boater was not to be denied. He found the kayaks and found quiet and peaceful places to explore along the lakeside.
I was able to ‘attend’ an important Zoom meeting sitting in an Adirondack chair on the dock. Best meeting ever! Using my iPhone, I was able to show the meeting attendees the little bit of heaven we have found in Alton Bay.

My husband and our two pups spent a week at this amazing cottage right on Lake Winnipesaukee October 7-14. We were a tad bit early for full fall foliage, but we did do some drives up north so see the beauty of New Hampshire during Fall. This cottage is SUPER CLEAN , comfy beds and everything you could needs. Many great restaurants in the area- We loved Shibley's at the Pier and John's Roast Beef and Deli.
Janet was very responsive and the whole experience was wonderful. Very quite in October on the lake, which we enjoyed !
A very special place to stay and we will return. I would highly recommend!

The description of the property was right on. The pictures listed on VRBO are nice but the reality is better. Great area with lots to do. The property kept all entertain and busy. Very clean and comfortable.

We love staying at Janet and Don’s house. The beautiful view and access to the lake can’t be beat. The front room provides the million dollar view at all times of day. If you visit, make sure to keep an eye out for the hummingbirds!
The neighbors are friendly and thoughtful too, so it’s always peaceful. Janet is very responsive throughout the process. Excited to stay again next year. Thank you for sharing your family’s home with us!

The view of the lake from anywhere on the property is spectacular! I’m not a morning person, but day after day the coppery sky at sunrise stopped me in my tracks! It is a quiet neighborhood where neighbors respect each other’s privacy, but are friendly upon meeting one another during the day. When questions arose, our owners were more than gracious and helpful when we reached out to them.

My husband and I (together with our Maltese) had a truly wonderful time! What a special place Engstrom-Stuga is. The cottage was very clean and organized with everything you could possibly need /want for a comfortable stay.
The views of the lake from the cottage were breathtaking. We were able to utilize the provided kayaks and it was so peaceful and quiet being out on the lake with beautiful fall foliage colors all around.
Janet is a very gracious and thoughtful host who is quick to respond to any questions.
Would highly recommend a stay here!

We were thrilled at the location and the charm of this beautifully maintained home. The place was clean and had all the amenities we needed. It felt like going to your own home away from home. The lake was quiet for a fabulous late September get away. We'll be back !

My husband and I (and our pup) very much enjoyed our stay at this wonderful cabin! Location was perfect and thankfully we were also blessed with great weather. Everything you could possibly need was supplied which made our stay much easier than at some places we have traveled to recently. The water was perfect for swimming with a sandy bottom, and it was nice that kayaks and paddleboards were there to use. We really enjoyed grilling outside every night and then enjoying the outside fireplace! My dog loved the fenced in yard which made it nice for him not having to be tied up all day long! We absolutely loved our stay there and look forward to staying again next year!!

There’s a lot to love about this property. The location, the view, the private dock, the ability to walk into the lake, the fenced in area for the dog. He loved our vacation as much as we did. Janet is pretty great too. She was quick to respond to any questions or issues. We hope to be back again soon!

Lovely spot, very quiet. Having AC was a plus since it was a very hot week. Dog friendly for the most part, if your dogs are quiet. Felt a little stressed since my dogs like to bark.

A beautiful lakeside cottage and a Spectacular view.
We enjoyed the sandy swim area, ducklings came for several visits. View of the sunset and mountains were spectacular. Enjoyed watching the Mt Washington cruise go by. Plenty of seating area and a picnic table for outdoor meals. Enjoyed the firepit. The cottage has two nice paddle boards and three kayaks that we cruised around the lake when the water was calm. Very well supplied kitchen to cook. Cottage has a pod coffee maker and a large coffee machine which we opted for. Many ice trays which were all set up for us upon arrival. Great fish and chips in Alton, very close drive. If you enjoy beer, the Lone Wolf brewery has great beer and food in Wolfborough. Easy biking and hiking enjoyed by the entire family.
We will definitely request another vacation, superb relaxation.

Beautiful, Quiet, Relaxing, Fun: Perfect Vacation
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left a week later, we felt right at home. A thank you/welcome note and photograph window hanger of the view from the cottage window greeted us on the kitchen island. We knew Janet would be available and helpful when needed. There was nothing that she had overlooked. Everything was clean, neat and clearly identified for us when we arrived. We had brought our dog with us, and I think he enjoyed his stay as much as we did, taking full advantage of the swimming and boating so closely available. And the view!!! Words fail to capture its beauty. Even a good photograph doesn’t do it justice. We can’t wait to return next year!

Perfect Fall Getaway
Wonderful cottage with spectacular views. Photos don’t do justice. The lake is awesome, beautiful, clear, and even warm enough in Oct to get in. The location is great - secluded yet close enough to grocery stores, restaurants and White Mountains.
The cottage is on the small side but had everything we needed - including games and books for our kids. It is beautifully decorated, well equipped and the porch is great. The only suggestion I have is to add 1-2 folding chairs so our entire family can sit comfortably around the dining table.
Janet is a great host - very helpful, communicative and keeps us informed.

Lovely Cabin with Beautiful View
Clean and comfortable with an amazing view of the lake. We enjoyed the enclosed porch and the firepit to keep us warm outside on the chilly September nights we were there. We would have appreciated a trash receptacle outside so we didn't have to take our trash with us at the end of the trip, but all in all a nice relaxing getaway.

Charming and well maintained cottage. SUPER CLEAN. Gorgeous view. Clear water. Easy entry into water from both yard and dock. Quiet with a secluded feel. Everything needed is on the property. Owner Janet is FABULOUS. And dog friendly!!!!!!! 5 stars plus more stars.

A week away at the cottage
We had a great week at the cottage this year. The owners have been adding awesome new upgrades every year. This year, the fence around the yard was such a great plus for our dogs. They were able to roam freely and hang with us, leash free, in the yard. There were so many recreational toys for the whole family including paddle boards, kayaks, huge jenga and board games. The sunrise and sunset views were simply amazing. We loved every minute of it!

Perfect view
we loved the view, rising early to sit on the dock and watch the mist rise from the lake with fall foliage in the background... perfect morning

Perfect long weekend
The cottage was exactly as described (a beautiful, quaint space along with everything one would need away from home) and the view was perfection! Our two young boys are full of energy and we didn't have to do much to keep them entertained. Aside from playing outside and enjoying the lake, there were lots of local activities within 20min- watched a movie at the drive-in theater, hiked Lockes Hill trail, got lots of ice cream and ate at local restaurants. Couldn’t have imagined a more perfect break from our routine!

Great mini vacation
Loved this place! We were only to go for a few days but truly enjoyed ourselves. Celebrated my 50th birthday, allowed the kids to do online remote school, paddleboarded (thanks for having those), played golf, kayaked, made an evening fire and truly relaxed and refreshed!

So beautiful and perfect
Two couples wanted to get away on the water for the weekend and it was just amazing. Perfect location to see all of the sites on the lake, and the cottage is adorable and very well maintained. You can’t beat this tucked away little neighborhood either. Owners provided everything that we needed including toys for the water, towels and sheets. House was exceptionally clean.

The Perfect Stay!
My husband, daughter, doggo, and I stayed at the cottage the week of August 15th. From the moment we arrived it was perfect! The cottage was clean and had everything needed for our stay. Which for me is the big plus. Not to mention the porch overlooking the lake. I could sit there all day. The cottage is perfectly situated right on Lake Winnipesaukee with your own private boat dock. Best part of the day was sitting on the deck drinking my morning coffee. Janet was courteous and was prompt to reply to any and all questions. When it comes down to it, if you have the opportunity to rent this cottage with the most amazing view, DO IT! It will not disappoint.

Charming cottage
We had a great week at this rental. It was a quaint property right on the crystal clear lake. We enjoyed using the paddle boards and kayaks. The place had tons of hooks for towels and bathing suits and was fully stocked with pots and pans etc. We will be back another time!! Thanks for letting us stay at your adorable home!

Peaceful
Engstrom-Stuga was a lovely place to rent for a first time experience on Winne. The cottage was stocked with everything needed. The porch was the best!! The sandy bottom frontage made swimming very enjoyable. Overall, this is a great rental for a family.

Highly recommend for vacation rental
The camp is a beautifully maintained camp with spectacular views of the lake and just steps from the water. The camp was very clean and the owners/property manager were very helpful in making sure we felt welcome. I highly recommend this rental.

Nook in paradise
We loved the spot of this cottage. Janet was incredibly informative and welcoming! Janet and her family provided so much with this rental (fully stacked kitchen, towels, linens, paddleboards, kayaks, 2 firepits to name a few). We had an amazing vacation and really were able to unplug at this lakeside retreat! The only (and i mean only) downside to this rental was parking was tough with a trailer, but we were able to make it work with the help of the friendly neighbors! We would definitely love to rent this cottage again!

Great family vacation
This beautiful Swedish decorated Cottage has been very well taken care of. The view was breathtaking from both the back porch and the dock. Any piece of kitchenware that we could have needed was there. There were plenty of towels and linens as well as extra life jackets. Our family of four, and dogs, had plenty of space to relax, sleep, play and enjoy the view. We especially loved the sandy bottom all the way out to the moorings. The paddle boards and kayaks that were available to us were a welcome extra and allowed us some beautiful sunrises and sunsets from the water. We enjoyed grilling and eating outside on the picnic bench and taking our boat for ice cream runs in the evening to Alton and Meredith. The neighbors were very friendly and offered up some of the history of the houses in the cove. We were blown away with every aspect of our stay. A huge thanks to the owners! We hope to rent this vacation home again next year.

Excellent location!!!
The cottage was well equipped for our stay. It had everything we needed. The paddle boards were great!! The location is perfect and the screened sun room was so nice as things cooled off. The yard and dock were perfect for relaxing and the stairs into the lake made swimming and launching Kayaks super easy. We brought a small row boat and carried it down and launched from the beach over to the dock for the week.
Janet was very responsive and easy to deal with when we were setting things up. She and her husband make sure the house is ready for you. The small fridge in the basement was perfect for drinks so the kids didn’t have to keep going into the house.
