About this house rental
This impressive and generously proportioned contemporary residence, situated within walking distance of several local beaches and the Rockport town center, has a spectacular view of the sea and neighboring coastline. The property, designed by Colin Flavin (see www.flavinarchitects.com/residential/gap-head), has even garnered some press attention: it has been featured in both the Boston Globe and North Shore Magazine’s design sections.
This fully renovated residence is located on a beautiful expanse of oceanfront land (3/4 of an acre) at Gap Cove in the desirable South End of Rockport. This air-conditioned property has 5 bedrooms (sleeps 12), 4.5 bathrooms and an open plan ground floor with panoramic ocean views extending from the kitchen on one end to the second sitting room on the other side of the house. There is a large dining room containing a custom-built brushed aluminum dining table that seats 12. The dining area transitions into the living room, which is equipped with a wood-burning fireplace and offers comfortable seating in the form of ample sofas, chairs and cushioned banquettes that line the windows. Glass patio doors lead out into the yard, which is separated from the ocean by an exquisite, almost sculptural, golden rockscape. The ground level has a second sitting room, also with panoramic ocean views, that is accessed through a glass corridor. This sitting room has a modular sofa, plenty of reading material and a widescreen TV. The beautiful cedar ceiling rises to give an expansive view of Sandy Bay and its pink and orange sunsets. This second sitting room also features a large porch that overlooks the garden and the ocean below. The ground floor is equipped with a half bath, a laundry room with two washers and one dryer and a mud room. The kitchen is a showstopper: a thoughtfully configured chef’s kitchen with sleek fronts (from the German designer Poggenpohl), extensive Dakota mahogany granite countertops and the extraordinary ocean scene right outside its many windows. The kitchen includes a central island, a large side by side refrigerator, dishwasher, double sink (with garbage disposal), bread drawer, steam oven, regular wall oven, six burner gas stove-top, pantry, high breakfast table with a red lava stone top and seven stools. There is a separate bar area with two Sub Zero undercounter drink drawer fridges and a massive Sub Zero wine refrigerator. Everything you need in exactly the right place to make culinary creativity flourish.
The second level is divided by an additional sitting room—with a widescreen surround-sound TV and shelves with children’s games—and a separate full bathroom with a tub. On one side are two bedrooms (one with a single and a trundle bed and one with a double bed). These two rooms are connected with a Jack and Jill bathroom equipped with a shower. On the other side there is the spacious master bedroom suite with a European queen bed, closets, lots of light, high ceilings and ocean views from the Juliet balcony. The bathroom features a walk-in shower with an extra-large rain shower head, a Japanese Toto Washlet toilet and double sinks. Every room on the second floor has a view of the ocean.
On the third floor there are two more bedrooms with ocean views: one containing a queen-sized bed and the other containing three single beds plus a trundle bed. This floor contains one large bathroom with a shower.
There is an expansive professionally landscaped front yard (street side) with plenty of safe room for children to play. The front yard has an extensive lawn perfect for playing croquet, badminton, volleyball or soccer. It is enclosed by a large hedge to maintain privacy and keep stray balls from entering the road. There are several flower beds, beautiful windswept cherry trees and pines. The garden also contains a raised and fenced vegetable garden. On the ocean side of the garage is an outdoor shower with both warm and cold water for rinsing away the salt and sand from a day at the beach. There is also a propane grill and various types of patio furniture which can be moved into any position the guests desire. The backyard lawn extends along the rocky coastline to the Atlantic Ocean itself and offers endless vistas of the coastline: parades of sailboats, kayaks, paddle boards and lobster boats. You may even see the occasional seal while enjoying the soft summer breeze in the warm evenings.
It’s just a short picturesque stroll to the neighborhood Old Garden beach. Swimming from the property is possible, but for athletes only and at your own risk! There are several larger rock and white sand beaches a short drive (about two miles) from the property at Pebble, Cape Hedge, Long and Good Harbor. The quaint and charming town of Rockport—whose claim to fame is Motif Number 1, which is the most often painted building in America—is a fifteen-minute walk from the residence and features a vast assortment of shops, restaurants, art galleries and the internationally known Shalin Lui Performance Center (Rockport Music). In June, Rockport Music hosts a world-renowned chamber music festival. In July and August, the focus is on jazz. Yoyo Ma, Joshua Bell, Wynton Marsalis and Dave Brubeck are just a few of the illustrious musicians that have performed at Rockport Music! If art is your thing, there are numerous galleries: the Rockport Art Association (RAA), the Cape Ann Art Museum in Gloucester, the North Shore Art Association and the Peabody Essex Museum (half an hour away by car) in Salem. The RAA also offers art classes for children and adults. If you like sailing, there is the Sandy Bay Yacht Club which also offers lessons to children and adults. There is the North Shore Kayak Outdoor Center in town where you can rent a kayak or paddle board and visit Straitsmouth or Thatcher’s Island. The Outdoor Center also rents bicycles and pedal boats. Cape Ann is a perfect place for cycling, walking or running. Road cyclists will find some great 25 to 60-mile rides through the neighboring towns of Essex, Ipswich, Magnolia and Hamilton. Play golf at the Rockport Country Club. There are tennis courts one mile from the property at the local high school. Halibut Point State Park offers beautiful walking trails with breathtaking views of the coastline. Drive to Gloucester and go on a whale watch where sightings are guaranteed. Take in a play at the Gloucester Stage. Or just relax, read a book and bask in the view at this beautiful oceanfront property.
No smoking and no pets permitted.
This property will be available from mid-June through mid-September.

A beautiful home on a picturesque spot. Can’t be beat! The home is spacious and the big windows facing the ocean make you feel you’re outside even when you’re inside. We look forward to staying there next year again.

I cannot say enough about this property and all that it offers. Stunning and well thought-out architecture, design, furnishings and layout, to say nothing of the ocean views from every single room. Incredibly equipped Poggenpohl kitchen stocked with every imaginable item one would need and more, and enhanced by helpful labeling and instructions. Nothing was spared to insure our comfort. Communication was friendly, immediate and thorough before and during our stay. Run, don’t walk to 1 Gap Head Road!

We have been staying in large Rockport homes for 20+ years - visits that brings our far-flung family together for a week of reunion. This, by far, was the finest. The house is large, beautifully and intelligently designed, and close to our old haunts and to the ocean. Wonderful week.

This rental home is a dream. There are simply no words to describe how beautiful it is, and the photos (as amazing as they are) simply don't do it justice! Amy is an absolute pleasure to work with and is extremely attentive / responsive. This was by far our best rental to date.

We loved our stay at this beautiful property! The views are unmatched and the first floor offers an incredible entertaining space with bright, open, well decorated rooms and huge windows. Amy was extremely communicative and thorough with the check-in process. Our only note is that this home may more comfortably sleep 12 people if the guests are both adults and children than if the guests are just adults because several of the bedrooms only have twin and trundle beds. We will be sure to remember our amazing stay and would highly recommend to others!

Gorgeous property. The host is phenomenal- local, lots of helpful hits, and knowledge of what to do, where to go and how to get things done. The house is set up for you to walk in and relax, and enjoy the sunsets no matter the weather. We will be back again next year.

Exceptional house with an exceptional oceanfront view
Perfect for my siblings and our young adult children to gather and reconnect. Big kitchen and dining table for 12, as this is the heart of the home. Right in the water, and the sunsets from the yard and rocks are unforgettable.

Family Summer Vacation
This property was absolutely amazing. There were 12 of us, we had more than ample room. The panoramic rear of the home was breathtaking. Not only was the house spacious but the outdoor space with it’s beautiful gardens with plenty of outdoor play area was a big plus. If we could give Ten Stars we would.

Dream Wedding Weekend!
We booked the house for our wedding weekend and hosted our rehearsal dinner (food truck) and got ready there with our wedding party (got approval in advance from the owner) and it was a dream location. House is beyond gorgeous and huge and the sweeping views of the ocean are STUNNING. We had some serious air conditioning issues (2nd and 3rd floor not working all weekend) but Amy was incredibly responsive and showed up at the house literally minutes after we contacted and had an emergency HVAC person on site same evening. Unfortunately it was a holiday weekend and the system couldn't be fixed, but Amy did offer to have window units installed right away to remedy the situation if we wanted.
The house has everything you could possibly need. Fully stocked kitchen, ton of bedrooms and bathrooms, great outdoor space (and swimming off the rocks!). Would definitely stay again.

It was exactly as shown in the photos of the property. The property owner was great to work with....very attentive to our needs. She welcomed us to her home on our arrival and made us feel very much at home during our stay. We would definitely rent this home again and look forward to our next stay!

Amazing property!
We had our extended family join us for a week’s vacation and this home just exceeded all our expectations. Amy was an incredible host, communicating often and answering any questions we had. The views are just spectacular from every room and despite not having sunshine every day we enjoyed a few rainy days curled up on the extra large window-seats watching the rain and ocean. I will sorely miss my morning coffee sitting in that spot! House is spacious and so warm and welcoming. Lots of meals cooked in the incredible gourmet kitchen and the dining room table could accommodate all 10 of us. Many trips to town of Rockport which is such a nice walk from the house. We can’t wait to come back!

A magical, classic new england ocean vacation spot
This house, the attention to detail, the incredible views and setting and the amazing, charming town made for an unforgettable experience. We had such a great time hanging out on the rocks, eating dinner at the picnic table, watching the sunset. We hiked, kayaked, chartered a schooner, explored the numerous gems of beaches dotted around town, etc. This is a truly special home and spot to unwind/recharge.

We had a wonderful time. We had 6 adults staying at the house and it was a perfect family getaway spot. It is a beautiful home situated on Sandy Bay. Tremendous views out over the bay. A great yard for outdoor activities (such as bocce or playing catch) and beautifully landscaped. It was fun climbing on the rocks leading down to the ocean and its easy to swim off the rocks. A sandy beach is a 10 minute walk away. Highly recommended. We hope to get back there again.

Perfect in every way!
Just had the most perfect week in a spectacular setting! This beautiful home is spacious, comfortable and super clean with every amenity needed including the most luxurious bath towels! The gourmet kitchen has everything needed - every pot, plate, platter imaginable to cook or bring in delicious lobsters from locally caught Roy Moore’s. The best is relaxing on the rocks or a comfy chair watching the lobster boats go by or listening to the waves crash against the rocks. The house is also conveniently located just minutes from the beach or town. Even on a cloudy day you can curl up on the comfy window seat to look out at the ocean and read. The owner Amy Huber attentively responds to any inquiries and provides a binder with house and local information.
We couldn’t have had a better week in a more beautiful setting. Only next time we’ll have to stay longer!
Thank you Amy!

Perfect Summer Getaway
In short, truly fabulous. We reconnected with friends from out of town for a week-long getaway in Rockport. Could not have asked for a better property and home away from home. Amy was terrific and earns top marks for attention to detail, cleanliness of the house, friendliness, helpfulness and concern for our well being and overall enjoyment. The house and property are amazing, well suited for families, kids, relaxation and gourmet cooking(which we did a lot of)! Amazing sunsets at a beautiful and convenient location. Could not have asked for a better place to stay!

A Wonderful Week on the Water
This is a lovely home in a prime location with a magnificent view of Sandy Bay. The property manager met us when we arrived and did a fine job of taking us around the property and showing us how things worked. We have been doing family reunions in Rockport for twenty years and this home with plenty of room proved an excellent venue for that. This is a very comfortable home and we found it to be fully equipped with everything we needed. The wine refrigerator was particularly useful. Our week went by in a flash and we were sorry we had to leave.
