They’re not kidding when they say the skies are dark! This reminded me of growing up on a rural farm. If you like feeling the historic weight of a home, imagining the generations who lived here and put every ounce of their being into the farm, stay here! It’s quiet, comfortable and will help you clear your mind. The house has just enough updates to make you comfortable. And the surrounding woods are phenomenal.

The skies, lumber museum, and Grand Canyon of PA did not disappoint.

I stayed here over Memorial Day weekend, the property was very clean and very rustic. The property had a mule and some cows as well, we got to feed the mule some grass and some carrots to the cows! The porch was fantastic for a few drinks and a cigar with the little creek running through the property it was SUPER relaxing! The fire pit was large and had laid brick and 2 large benches with ALL the fire wood you could need including fire starter and kindling. Fully stocked kitchen, 2 living rooms with plenty of furniture(small tv but it worked fine) the bathrooms were stocked with towels I suggest bringing hand soap and maybe an extra roll of toilet paper. Beds were clean and made well. The yard had plenty of room for kids to play. Overall 100% recommend. Good price and every question I had was answered within a few hours by the host, they were very nice and reasonable I’ll be coming back for a longer stay next year for sure!

We all enjoyed your stay. We have been going to potter county every fall during hunting season for very many years. We stayed at the Auth farm before it was a VRBO.
The house is clean and comfortable it is like a step back in time but with all the convenience of today. There in nothing better than sharing a warm fire in the pavilion with friends.
Thank you to our host Ben, and the Jacksons.

Second time staying here, was every bit as pleasant as the first time. We got to feed Penny some carrots and apples this time (we fell through last time).
Stars were fantastic, house was cozy, we planned our own events better than last time. Kitchen is well equipped, living room with the tv was warm and toasty.
We also had the opportunity to be serenaded by cattle’s having their morning run arounds first thing in the morning, which was new and very nice!

Reminded me of my grandparents home from 30 years ago in all the good ways. If you appreciate the stillness and silence of nature at night, a night sky so clear you can pick out each major constellation and their nebula. Then this is the place for you. I’ll definitely be planning another trip here in the future ✌

The house and property was amazing! The view from the porch was stunning. We enjoyed the porch swing. The Wi-Fi worked great and the kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, spices, oil, etc. Penny the mule was adorable! We enjoyed feeding her carrots and watching her in the pasture. We met the owner a couple of times and he even brought wood chips and lighter fluid for us to use to start our fire. Highly recommend this place! We would definitely book again if ever returning to the area.

The Old Alth Farm was exactly what we were looking for to
unwind for a couple of days. We loved and enjoyed everything about the Farm, even the dirt roads to get there.
The house is amazing and brought back some childhood memories of days gone by. The pavillion is definitely made to relax and enjoy. We did meet Miss. Penny (the mule). She loved her carrots and apples. We also got to meet Daryl when he came to feed Penny. We enjoyed talking with him. He is the Salt of the Earth Man. Everything inside the home was organized, clean and very welcoming. We had no problems and we have no complaints. We would definitely stay here again.

Clean, spacious and tranquil farmhouse property with all the amenities that you’ll need. We checked out Kinzua, Austin Dam and Cherry Springs during our stay. There’s also a great diner close by (Fezz’s) and a golf course down the road too.

Exactly as advertised. Beautiful old farmhouse decorated from another era. Bathrooms are updated and the kitchen had all the conveniences, but otherwise it was like stepping back in time.
The property is perfect for star gazing, no need to trek to the park, just pull out one of their outside blankets and lay on the lawn!

The house was a great location. Easy access to stores and restaurants. It was enough room for 10 people. We had enough amenities- towels pillows and bedding, and kitchen utensils. The only thing we needed was a gas grill for cooking hamburgers and hotdogs but we used the charcoal grill that was available.

This was a wonderful experience. We all enjoyed our stay and the property was great. We were a group of hunting guys and everything went very well. The owner and the manager were very pleasant and helpful. Look forward to another stay in the future.

House itself is very nice. Porch and property are beautifully scenic and picturesque. Living room and kitchen are very cozy… cooked several meals and the kitchen is well-equipped.
The down stairs was warm and comfortable (visited in November and it was in the 30’s at night) but be aware the upstairs has no heat… it relies entirely on vents drafting heat from downstairs up to the bedrooms. This wasn’t a big deal as the beds are very heavily blanketed… 3 or 4 thick layers of sheets kept me very warm all night.
Access to the property is a rough dirt road, which added to the “being way out there” feel and was sort of a positive to the vibe of the trip.
All in all, very nice visit, can’t wait to go back.
Penny the mule was a delight to watch be a mule, when she wasn’t eating the grass, she was meditating on the nature of the universe staring at trees. Make sure to bring an apple or two for her, we didn’t and I regret it. Definitely will next time.

The agent Benn was quick to reserve the property and make the charges, however I had to ask the day before arrival what was the check in procedure. Did not know until arrival that there was no AT&T service , had to travel to town for any service... that is a huge oversight.
AC is only in kitchen, though there were window fans, the curtains were in the way. The bathtub & shower stall had no grab/safety bars. There was not a hook in bathrooms or bedrooms to hang a towel or robe or anything. Bedrooms needed a flat surface, chest of drawers or bench for a suitcase.. Lighting was very poor throughout house. Property should have a renters guide about the house ,and check out procedures, rather than notes left all over. One TV did not work. BBQ grill was listed( brought steaks to have) but note on it said " do not use". As iof day before departure I did not have check out procedure from agent. Emailed him, but could not sit in town waiting for a response. We stripped beds and collected trash, and left the house in good order. Never heard from him as we traveled home.

Beautiful old farmhouse. The property here was great for our large group. The outbuilding is a great space with fireplace and tables. Large property that we love. We have stayed here multiple times & love it.

Stellar Stay
This farm house was exactly what our group of four adults was looking for. From the moment we arrived, we felt at home and welcome. Our trip was centered around the opportunity to see the Milky Way, and fortunately, our first and last nights granted us that chance. I had never seen such a spectacular sight. No need to go elsewhere for that. Most of our time was spent on the spacious porch or the well-stocked kitchen. The beds were quite comfortable (though I would have preferred that they were queen-sized). We never even turned on the TVs. We explored the nearby towns of Coudersport (loved dining at Olga's) and Wellsboro, where we dined at Roost, bought chocolates at Highland Chocolates, and purchased a few items at Wild Asaph Outfitters. The area has lots to see and do, including hiking in the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania and visiting the Lumber Museum and Kinzua Bridge State Park. My sister and I enjoyed several late afternoon strolls on Black Hole Road, passing cow pastures and the beautiful fall foliage. Last but not least, we enjoyed the peace, quiet, and solitude - something we do not get much of in our South Jersey town. I highly recommend the Old Alth Farm and would certainly return again!

Absolutely tranquil
Words can not describe this beautiful and peaceful place. We were able to sit and watch the stars, play games in the pavilion and just enjoy swinging on the porch swing. It was close enough that we could visit Kinzua bridge, elk country and Sinnemahoning Park.

Peaceful, well-equipped
An old home that has been kept well. The view from the porch is like a painting. The mule named Penny that is allowed to roam the land was the favorite of the kids. We enjoyed the pavilion, as well, and roasting marshmallows and having yet another outdoor (but roofed) area to eat meals and play games. Decided to make apple pie one day and a pastry blender and pie dish were in the cupboards—fully equipped home! It is a 20 minute drive to one of the free designated spots for star gazing at Cherry Springs State Park, which is what we came for. All around, a lovely stay.

Relaxing getaway
Although we were not able to see any stars because of the cloudy weather, we still thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We loved the spacious house, the pavilion, and, of course, Penny. We will definitely be returning in the future!

Better for spring, fall or winter getaway
This is a great property overall yet we happened to pick about the worst time to stay there, since, despite the claim in the listing, there was no a/c at all and the farmhouse was incredibly humid despite the very loud dehumidifier running all day long. We did book this place in large part because it said it had a/c and I am miserable in hot, humid weather.
The point of the getaway was to relax, be outside, reading, stargazing and not doing much. Clearly the owners cannot control the weather but they can control a listing that says it has air conditioning when it clearly does not (temps were in the mid 90's during our end of June stay and very humid ). In addition, there were only 2 small window fans that could not be placed near the beds because there are no outlets near the beds nor extension cords provided to reposition the fans. Again, the weather is not within their control, however we can hardly be the first guests in the many years that the farmhouse has been rented to wonder why so little has been done to accommodate the sweltering summer conditions.
Window units certainly are an options and we did find ourselves wishing that we brought one with us, though, that isn't what one usually thinks to pack on a vacation!
In the end, we did very little relaxing and too much time (300 plus miles in 3 days) driving all over Potter and Tioga Counties because at least our car has a fan and a/c.
The views are incredible. The farmhouse is very well stocked. The owner did respond to us right away when we locked ourselves out and the spare key was not where it was supposed to be (according to the instructions left on the refrigerator). It was a great place to see the stars and less crowded than Cherry Springs.
I would recommend it to people who either are staying when there isn't a heatwave, don't care about the lack of listed but non-existent air conditioning or those who are staying in a cooler time of year- or those who, unlike me, just don't mind paying hotel rates to swelter at night.

Refreshingly remote and quiet
This old farmhouse has been nicely updated without losing its charm. Located on a gravel road on a working farm, this is the perfect quiet get-away, very limited connectivity, just peaceful.

Heavenly Solitude
What a wonderful and beautiful place. The farmhouse was very charming. It was like stepping back in time. What a peaceful experience!! The house was well prepared for visitors. Didn't want for anything. Of course, we spent most of our time outside. Mornings on the porch taking in the scenic view, hiking nearby during the day, dinner on the porch and then all night taking turns sitting at the fire pit to staring at all that the night sky has to offer. You can't beat the heavenly solitude. Enjoyed meeting and talking with the owner. Penny the mule was a plus, too!! Got to see the Milky Way!! Definitely hope to return, thanks for sharing the farm!

Away from it all!
A great place to unplug and enjoy your family. The stars are magnificent if you have a clear night. We had 2 and I would have been happy with even just one. So many birds I’ve not seen in Pittsburgh. Binoculars are a must have. A wonderful quiet escape overall.

Stargazing weekend
This was an excellent get away. The pavilion was the perfect hideaway from the rain and the fire pit let us hangout all night to see the stars.

This home was very comfortable and very well appointed. We came to see the stars because of the dark skies. Unfortunately, it was almost constant rain and we saw none. However, we did get to enjoy the fire pavilion each night. There was plenty of wood and firestarter. We enjoyed the porch swings and the quiet peacefulness. While swinging one morning, we met the owner, Darryl and his dog Fletcher. He had come looking for is mule, Penny. She loves carrots.I do wish they had bigger beds- at least a queen size. We pushed the 2 twins together. This home is definitely not handicapped accessible. Hopefully, we will be back again to try to view the stars.

Just What We Needed
This was a great time 'unplugged'. My grandson can be distant sometimes with electronics involved. Anticipated internet and cell obstacles led us to just abandon the disconnected/connection everybody seems to live with nowadays. We did things and 'talked' so much we didn't even notice their loss. We all had a great time. Penny graced us with her royal presence in the barn and the stars at night in the back yard where nothing short of spectacular!!!!! Definitely coming back again.

Genuine Farmhouse
Secluded location, perfect for getting away from it all. Trip was intended for star gazing at Cherry Springs but the skies at the farm are just as good. On our last morning we woke up in a winter wonderland. Plan on booking again in the summer to better utilize this beautiful property.

Late October Visit
Had a great time spending a long weekend here. The house and property are well worth the price. The only issues we ran into were up front with the lack of cell phone service or internet at the cabin. This made it a little tough for the second car to find exactly where the cabin was, since the GPS took us one property up the road at first. That's a minor detail though, and it was honestly way better to be completely cut off from that for a couple days.
This was our second trip using one of Benn's properties, and he was a great host again. He gave us detailed check-in instructions, and prepared the house for our arrival. Next time we go to Cherry Springs, we'll definitely give his rentals first priority in our search.
