We really enjoyed our stay at this property. There were several different areas for us to hang out, separately or together. I absolutely loved the front porch area, which had a view of the ocean. We also enjoyed the pond in the front’s front, complete with resident koi. One of us even had a swim in it!
Order was very responsive with email queries prior to arrival.

We've stayed here before and it never disappoints. Clean, spacious, and great for families.

This is one of the most beautiful properties we’ve ever stayed at with unique tile and comfortable beds and lots of outside spaces. I really appreciated leftover items from previous guests in kitchen although I didn’t use much. Too many properties we stay in don’t even have salt and pepper! We were 6 adults so bedrooms with outside entrances were great. I think the ponds would be a bit scary for me when my kids were under 5-6. Black sand beach is a short walk up the road. Pools estuary pools that lots of families were using were right across the street. Birds and ocean and pools made sitting outside very nice. Only negative is that local teenagers parked and played music loudly pretty often. Mostly that stopped by about 9:00 pm. Of course that is not something owners can control. Area and Hilo as a whole is not very touristy-mostly local families. Loved shaved ice by farmers market, Lyman museum is a hidden gem. Planetarium was not as good as expected. Banyan street and coconut island were better than expected.

the property was very clean. we have been to Hawaii the last 4 years and this is by far the best place we have stayed in. The pictures on VRBO are just like the place looks.

GREAT HOUSE

The property is well maintained, clean and as advertised. Note that the ice maker was nonfunctional and my text asking whether there might be ice trays we could use was answered informing me that I could buy ice in town.
Uncertain whether every weekend is like this but the scene on the road out front was a bit much with locals racing by and burning rubber for much of the day. We were amazed to not see a single cop car go buy despite the scene.

What an incredible find. We walked across the street every day to Hilo beaches to watch the waves. Take binoculars - most days we sat and watched humpback whales. Breathtaking! A short drive south and we watched dolphins. Hilo doesn't have much in the way of sandy beaches but these crashing waves on rock are fantastic. The house itself appears very newly renovated with high end appliances and fixtures. Pepe was very responsive. The property is heavenly; rain-forest foliage and ponds with decks front and back. Lots of birds and surprisingly few bugs. Lots of good restaurants and shopping minutes away. Don't miss the Farmers' Market. We were four seniors and enjoyed hanging out at the house and beach. Nearly perfect! Only one caveat - and not the owner's fault - the street in front of the house is the go-to strip for young men revving obnoxiously loud cars and speakers and burning rubber on Friday and Saturday nights. A shame, as peaceful weekend evenings on the deck were the price. Plan a restaurant meal on those nights.

We loved this property!! It was very clean and very well stocked and it was ideal for our group. We were a group of 6 adults and the set up was perfect. Two people per bedroom with plenty of gathering space inside and out. We took advantage of the proximity to the beach park and swam there everyday after exploring other sites in Hilo. I would highly recommend this property and I would love to stay there again!

This location exceeded my expectations . I loved the layout, as did my adult children. It is ideally situations and close to downtown. However, it was the ocean, and the beauty and the peaceful porch I will remember.
Thank you for the beach towel use, and being across from the best beach- very rocky wear water socks, but still best around.

We made ourselves at home quickly here and really didn’t want to leave. The ponds were ever changing and fun to explore. Just across the street is paradise and perfectly picturesque. Enjoy the walk either way down the coast. The lanai was perfect all day and night to relax on. The house had everything we needed. We’ll be back. Hilo has so much to offer.

We loved having the beach across the street. Sunrise out on the rocks. Fish and frogs and geckos greeted us. And the A/C was wonderful.

Peaceful, quiet area, clean and cool property (literally and descriptively!) with separate AC controls in each of the 3 bedrooms. Bathrooms were amazing!! Loved the pond with fish and all of the outdoor spaces. Very easy drive to Hilo and great nearby restaurants - Seaside was wonderful!! Ocean access just across the street at 3 different public parks. Area felt very safe.

We live in Hawaii Island and first visited as a family while I was pregnant in June of 2021 and because we loved it so much we have made it a tradition to come back every July since. So we have celebrated my sons first and second birthdays here. Pepe is always happy to accommodate at any time and he’s been great! Looking forward to future stays at the beach house

Our only regret is that we were only able to stay here for a couple of nights. It’s a nice, updated cottage that has everything you need. Comfortable beds, beautiful bathrooms and an updated, well equipped kitchen. The living room has a mid-century vibe, but we spent most of our time on the porch. It’s in a great location across the street from a couple of oceanfront parks. The house is surrounded by crystal clear lagoons. We saw lots of different birds and small fish and one beautiful koi. We saw turtles in the protected tide pools across the street. It’s a great place for sunsets. Maybe I didn’t read the property description thoroughly enough but one thing to be aware of is that the main cottage has the master bedroom, living room and kitchen. There are separate entrances with keypad locks to the other bedrooms. This was perfect for our group but might be something to think about if you are traveling with small children. They are all attached and accessible by a wrap around deck. Our friends and their 12yo took the room with the daybed. Our nearly 15yo was in heaven. He felt like he had his own apartment!! We really enjoyed our stay.

First time in Hilo, house was great, swimming just down the street for ocean water, fresh cold water across the street.

The pictures don’t show the magic of sitting on the lanai overlooking the beautiful ponds (with a koi) to the dramatic ocean.
We spent a lot of time on the lanai when not walking to the beaches right across the road. So cool! We saw sea turtles there and went into the water everyday.
The location is great- close to town, easy to get to everything on that side of the island.
The beds are comfortable and nice linens and towels are used. Bathrooms are very attractive and each has a double sink. Plus there’s a half bath near the kitchen.
We only cooked breakfast- there are plenty of dishes, utensils and pots & pans.
We loved staying here and definitely recommend it.
Thank you, Pepe!!

We loved the relaxed atmosphere of the area and the house was beautiful! I would go back again! Pepe made it so easy for us to get into the house (we got in rather late on our first day). Awesome home and property manager.

This is a great 3bed 3 1-2 bath home. Each room has private bathroom. Bedrooms have their own entrance and AC unit which is very helpful. The main living room and kitchen doesnt have ac so cooking was a little tough for us because it got hot. The grounds are amazingly beautiful, the pond was very pretty, cold to swim but beautiful.
You are in the rainforest so expect it to be buggy, I have allergies to mosquitoes so I lived in DEET, and lavender oil. Beware Deet does kill coral so wash it off before going into the ocean.
Also this is the rocky side of the island, white sandy beaches are on the kona side.
However, if you're looking for a true hawaiian experience with super friendly locals, you have to stay here.

Perfect place to stay while visiting hilo!!!!

We really loved the location and sitting on the lanai watching the koi swim around. There were also some baby piggies that visited the property and the kids loved watching them. The bathrooms and kitchen were all in great shape. The beach parks were stunning and right out in front or a short walk. We really loved Hilo in general.
A couple of things to note about this place: locals do like to play loud music while recreating at the beach park out front. It didn't bother us too much though. The back patio could use a cleaning and an update but we really didn't use it because the front was so nice. Lastly, I would not recommend jumping into the pond. A couple of us got bit by something in there. We could see the little welt bites. There is a warning in the book about it. Best to just admire the ponds.

Rain or shine the place to be in Hawai’i is a Lanai facing the ocean and the house Keaukaha in Hilo fits the bill. The house is a tastefully remodeled historic plantation house, although we only used it to sleep and cook. The beds are very comfortable, and the large showers invigorating. We spent the majority of our time in the fresh air of the Lanai and the parks across the street. From the comfort of the Lanai we viewed 3 species of Hawaiian endemic birds: the Nene - more beautiful than I imagined, ‘i’o - Hawaiian hawk carrying a large branch in her talons over the driveway and into the backyard, and the male ‘Aku’u (black crowned night heron) in his breeding plumage impersonating a statue. But my grandsons will be left with memories of Kai the Koi and the Green Sea Turtles at Richardson’s beach.

We would definitely rent this place again. Loved watching Koa from the lanai!!

Ideally situated property. A short drive from the airport and across the street from an Ocean park. The property itself is uniquely designed with 3 separate units (main house with 1 bedroom), and two attached rooms with their own access (like a mini motel). This was ideal for us, 3 couples travelling together. Bathrooms and Kitchen are modern and clean.

This house is amazing. We loved the three private en suite bedrooms and expansive outdoor spaces to read, play games, eat meals, and generally enjoy vacation time. Proximity to the beach was perfect for us. Some people might not like the road noise. It did not bother us in the least. The quick steps to the beach was an even trade of for us.

We stayed here for 3 nights during our 10th anniversary trip to the Big Island. It was very clean, well appointed, and easy to relax. All directions were clear and helpful. And I would highly recommend staying here.

Our stay at the lovely healing pond house in Hilo was amazing!
It was everything that we hoped it would be. It was clean, updated, in a beautiful location, close to snorkeling and town. Swimming in the pond was a wonderful experience as well. We would definitely recommend it and stay there again.

Beautiful property. Nice host. Hilo is a bit buggy because of the temperature so be prepared. Not a function of the property but the climate of Hilo.

Our stay was truly amazing! The location was perfect for relaxing and recharging. We spent most of our time on the lanai overlooking the front yard, swimming in the pond, and and exploring the ocean right across the street. Didn’t want to leave! So beautiful and peaceful! The home was perfect for our family (myself and hubby, my parents, and 2 adult children) with its master suite, and two adjoining suites with separate entrances for each. Pepe was very accommodating with check in and out. Loved everything about it!

A great get away property
Excellent property especially for our family of older teenagers and young adults. Two of the bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms are separated from the main part of the house by a deck which our family appreciated. Beds so comfortable and the decks and ponds so relaxing. Thank you

Perfect Hilo house
This property is just perfect for a Hilo area visit. Lovely private house, modern kitchen and bathrooms, charming pond in the front yard. Best for older kids or multiple couples since two other bedrooms are off the porch in the back. Those rooms are identical, queens beds and own nice bathrooms. Pepe was so helpful and met us for check in, showed us around. Fantastic location for exploring the coastline, volcano area, etc. Just loved it. Great porch overlooking the front yard and pond. Didn’t want to leave.

Hilo House oasis
Above and beyond our expectations. Great property, host and location. We were 3 couples and loved all aspects of our 4 night stay. The extremely comfortable, clean and beautifully decorated house is fully stocked with thoughtful extras and details. The house is safe, secure and well situated across from the beach with incredible snorkeling. We appreciated that each bedroom had an ensuite bathroom and air conditioning. We used the outdoor, covered eating and sitting areas daily to gather, play games and lounge. Pepe was easy to communicate with and great to work with. He offers a quality product with a quality experience. We liked having our privacy yet close to everything in Hilo. It is an oasis with the beautiful pond right out front and wildlife galore to watch from the porch. Highly recommend.

Paradise!
My family had an amazing stay at this location. The outside of the property is hard to beat- tranquil ponds (with fish), coconut trees, and well maintained grassy spots. There were two spots to eat dinner outside on the lanai one in the front and one in the back. You can watch the sunset and have a view of the beach from the front of the property. We had daily sightings of geckos, a heron, and a rooster on the property (who thankfully crowed sparingly and only in the afternoon). The inside of the property was well-designed with comfortable beds. The front of the property had one bedroom, 1 1/2 baths with living room and kitchen. The back two bedrooms had their own private baths and were separated with their own locked entries. Our family has a delightful time and would certainly stay again.

Incredible Place
What a fantastic property! Pepe was awesome to work with and Makanani was delightful. Not only was she helpful in checking us in and showing the place but also gave us great tips on the area. We look forward to staying there again in the future.

Beautiful Property
Beautiful property across the street from local beach. Pepe was very welcoming and accommodating, especially when we had to shorten our trip by 1 day to spend 1 night on the other side of the island (wish we could've stayed at his vrbo for the full time though!).

A very special property!
This house and property are really great! The master bedroom is spacious and lovely, with a very nice master bath. Our teenagers loved the two extra bedrooms that have an exterior entrance and their own bathrooms. The front lanai is so spacious and great for relaxing, reading, and playing games. There are not that many beaches on the Hilo side, and this house is across the street from Richardson Beach, which is one of the best ones. Beautiful black sand and surprisingly good snorkeling too. I also enjoyed floating around in the private ponds! Fun place with a nice beach house vibe.

Beautiful Home!
This property is really nicely furnished and is very comfortable for a family stay. The kitchen, though on the small side, is a cook’s dream with top- of - the line appliances and ample cookware and utensils. The bedding and beds were super comfy and the porches front and back great for hanging out with the family.
Property management was super helpful and accommodating. The ponds out front give a mystical feel to the property and we enjoyed watching the “pet” koi! Brother in law did take a dip in the pond and said it was great.
The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars across the board is that the property is on a fairly busy road directly across from a public beach park. It can get noisy at times with kids partying- music and loudness. It really didn’t bother us too much and the kids were mostly respectful and cleaned up after themselves. Just noted for those of you who this might be sensitive to noise. The beach area is lovely though. A great stay for sure!
