About this house rental
ALOHA!
The breathtaking Waterfall Retreat at Reed’s Island is a spectacular 4 bedroom, 3 bath home in the exclusive area of Reed’s Island in Hilo. The home is only a few minutes from downtown Hilo but it feels like a private paradise retreat with a stunning river and falls right outside your window. The tropical rainforest views, Wailuku river and the falls natural beauty make this home a one-of-a-kind vacation destination.
This home has many luxury features: The living room has large windows and sliding doors that showcase the extraordinary rainforest with picturesque views of the waterfall and Wailuku river. You may enjoy your meals in front of waterfall out on the lanai, a relaxing area on the 700 sq ft pinewood deck.
While you are on the lanai, you may enjoy the view of the well-landscaped tropical garden, the colorful flowers and plants, feel the tender-green, soft Korean Grass, and listening to nature’s symphony: the tree-frog’s greeting, the waterfall flowing and the birds singing. We do have geckos that like to hang out on the lanai and will occasionally enter the home. We coexist happily with our gecko friends as they eat mosquitos and less desirable critters. Just know that they are part of the flora and fauna of the Big Island.
Kitchen is stocked with dishes and cookware for any cooking enthusiast. Coffee and herbal teas provided for guests. The bathrooms are furnished with clean linens, soap, shampoo, conditioner and hair dryer.
Other amenities include flat screen tv, washer and dryer and parking for 3 cars.
Relax and stay here at the magical Waterfall Retreat at Reed’s island, an experience that you will treasure for the rest of your life.

It‘s a great location in a nice neighborhood. During the raining „season“ it could be louder but never got that perfect view! The host was awesome! Mahalo nui!

All questions were answered in a timely manner. The view from the house and decks are gorgeous. The waterfalls and foliage made it feel like a tree house. We only had one day were we really missed having AC. We'd go back.

A little outdated

We enjoyed our stay at this spacious property, which was conveniently located a short drive away from downtown, beaches, botanical gardens, and ziplining. Beds were super comfortable! Property manager was extremely responsive to any needs. Listing states AC however only 1 room actually has a window unit. Regardless, there were fans in every room and windows could be opened, so we were comfortable.

The sound of the water running over rocks the rocks below provides an incredible backdrop for a stay in Hilo. It is Iike having a giant pink noise machine to lull you to sleep each evening. The owner was very responsive and thoughtful (they left a pound of Hawaiian coffee by the coffee maker). Would definitely stay here again!

The house was very nice and clean. The host was great to work with, responded quickly to my texts and even had a nice binder layed out with information about the house and things to do around the area. It was located in a quiet neighborhood close to downtown Hilo. Our whole group would stay there again.

Our stay was great until the morning we were living. I loaded two suitcases in the car and was in the process of loading a few others. When I came back the 2 suitcases were stolen. It was 5:00 AM in the morning and only took less than 10 minutes to happen.

A stunning location! Well equipped house. Lovely decor. Incredibly prompt and attentive service when we had a small plumbing issue. The sounds of the jungle and waterfall are your own relaxation soundtrack. And don't mention the beautiful geckos. Highly recommend it!

The house was amazing and we really enjoyed out time listening to the rush of the water. The driveway is steep, but manageable. This house was a great base for our stay in Hilo. We would stay here again in the future.

We loved the waterfall. The house was convenient to everything. We would come here again.
The sound on the tv needs fixing.

Our family of 8 (5 adults and 3 kids) thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Hilo for New Year's week. Rainbow Falls and Boiling Pots are nearby because it’s the same river flowing through the backyard Sitting on the lanai gave us a private version of those attractions.
The secluded spot allowed us to get to other areas of the Big Island, such as Volcano National Park and Mauna Kea, fairly quickly while avoiding the hustle and bustle of a large resort. We were also able to walk into Hilotown within 25 minutes, which made it extremely convenient to grab meals or a shave ice.
The only noise at night is the sound of Coqui frogs, which is a great alternative to the urban noises such as car alarms and garbage trucks that typically fill my home.
The garage also offered beach towels and coolers, which were helpful when we headed over to the heated pools at Isaac Hale park.
We look forward to returning soon.

The property was well maintained and clean. It is right on a cliff on rainbow waterfall, so the views were amazing. We happen to see the owner as we arrived about 20 minutes early and she was very nice and she explained each and every items and amenities of the home. Home had everything setup, towels , linens etc. kitchen was fully loaded with all the utensils.
We highly recommend this property is you are
planning to stay in Hilo.

This is a healing and restorative spot for us. It was the second time we had the pleasure to stay here. The house and kitchen are large and accommodating, Downtown is walkable if desired. The waterfall and surrounding foliage is meditative and worth the visit

This house was absolutely perfect. We wish we had stayed here and in Hilo all week. Well stocked and implemented for all kinds of activities. Close to airport, shopping, beach. Lovely breeze through the house, soothing waterfall and coqui frogs put us right to sleep at night. The owner communicates beautifully and is accomodating. When we come back we will try to stay here again! Mahalo!

So relaxing sitting out on the deck listening to the river! The house had everything we needed, and more. Easy trip into town.

Neighborhood was beautiful, waterfall was amazing! Very nice house. Would definitely stay again

The home was very nice and comfortable. The setting is gorgeous; the river and waterfalls in the back are beautiful - better than the picture in the listing.
There is no bedroom air conditioning, but we didn't need it. Opening the windows and turning on the ceiling and floor standing fans cooled the house quickly and made it very comfortable. We visited in late August.
We had our adult children with us (7 adults in our group). With 3 full baths and 4 bedrooms, there was plenty of room for us to sleep and quickly get ready for the day. The kitchen had the equipment and utensils we needed to cook our meals. There deck a nice place to enjoy the view. The living room was spacious, but we hardly used it because we were busy seeing Hawaii.
There was plenty of parking space for our two full size cars. The driveway was steep but not a problem for the cars. If you are going to use a mini-van, I would contact the host for techniques to approach the driveway.
Grocery shopping was very convenient a few blocks away at the Sack N Save (Foodland) or the KTA (further away) and farmers' market. Shops were equally close.
We loved it here and highly recommend it. We would stay again.

What an incredible house— it was pristine, stocked with everything and had lots of room to spread out. But the best part was the enormous wraparound deck overlooking the waterfall—amazing! It was like having a blissful resort retreat all to ourselves.

Very clean property in a nice neighborhood: feels close to town but also removed. Great location!
The house itself is fine, in pretty good condition. A few places need some upkeep and refreshing, though there are clear signs on things broken.
Enjoyed sitting outside on the porch next to the constant flow of the river. The river can get quite loud, and I appreciated this background sound for sleeping!
Slope of the driveway is not suitable for a low clearance vehicle. Even had difficulty with our rental van not scraping each time entering/exiting the driveway.

The house is every bit as perfect as the pictures depict. Our family of 8 stayed and it was wonderful. Everything we needed was there. The wraparound porch/deck was beautiful and comfortable for us to spend lots of time out there enjoying the view of the river and waterfall. The frog sounds at night were fun to listen to.
The property manager was wonderful and brought us a replacement propane tank for the grill when it ran out.

This property is simply Amazing! Tucked just outside a bustling town center, this property has it all! Situated on a quiet hillside street overlooking a waterfall (yes, yes it is) you feel as if you are miles away from anyone. The layout is comfortable and spacious with stunning views of the river below and trees above. We relaxed on the lanai while watching geckos and birds. The kitchen was well equipped for our needs.
On a side note: the home was aesthetically decorated with interesting art and pottery, which we enjoyed looking at. Suzy was a great host!

I have stayed on Reed’s Island in Hilo many times. This was my first time in this rental. Communication with host was great and Check In was easy.
The location over the river and waterfalls is fabulous. On the day we arrived there had been heavy rain and the waters were loud, but beautiful. If loud water is an issue for your sleep, bring ear plugs. House is surrounded by lush begetstion and the view to other side of river/stream is gorgeous
The furnishings and house are a little outdated but that’s not why you are selecting this location. Cleanliness was fine but I would suggest a little deep cleaning. Baseboards and some areas could use some touch up.
The house is stocked with spices, coffee filters, shampoo, conditioner and cleaning products. This comes in handy when you don’t want to go to the store just to find coffee filters. We used the BBQ to cooks d it worked great

The VRBO description does not do justice to the river and waterfall just below the house! Lovely setting. House had everything we needed for our group.

We were very pleased with our stay at this location. Communication and description are accurate. We read reviews and were concerned about no air conditioning, however, it was not needed during our stay. It is very well stocked, some items are older but still very useful. We happened to stay during a rainy period recently and we were surprised at the force of the river directly behind the home. I am sure others who stay during the drier period will not have this experience. Communication was good, we enjoyed our time and did not experience any concerns to share. We would stay here again if we were in the area.

What a terrific place to stay. So beautiful! The sound and sight of the waterfall was amazing. Nice and secluded but still close to everything in Hilo. Would highly recommend!

This was by far the best VRBO we have stayed in. The home is impeccable and provides everything you need plus.. The waterfalls are spectacular. Best sleep we have ever had with the breeze, waterfall sound and gecko chirping. I can't say enough about this wonderful place in paradise. We will definitely be back and highly recommend.

It rained the whole time we were here but we enjoyed our stay and loved watching the water of the river change as it rained. Owner was great at answering any questions we had.

If you are looking for a special and memorable stay- this is for you! Super quiet location that is very private. Spectacular views from all the windows and of course- the views of the waterfall from the living area , bedrooms and deck. Walking distance to downtown Hilo . Wonderful romantic get away!

We stayed a few days here last year but immediately knew we wanted more time at this rental. The views and sounds are wonderful. No complaints.
10.0
Location is beautiful and quiet, but convenience to Hilo activities.
Deck view is stunning and mesmerizing.
The house itself is clean and well appointed, but furniture and decor are somewhat tired and dated.
Be sure to use mosquito spray if you are spending any time on the deck!
Also, be aware that one of the showers is located on the main floor, away from the bedrooms.

Being able to relax to the sounds of the river was most enjoyable

We have stayed on Reeds Island several other times at a really nice house. This house is actually better! Less expensive to rent, has more rooms, a really really great location, has all the amenities and you are surrounded by lush tropical greenery, and rushing water!
The property manager, Suzanne, is.very accommodating and responsive We definitely want to come back!!!

Our family of five adults stayed for 4 nights and just loved our stay. The road was quiet. Town was for us, easy to walk to for meals out. We traveled to Volcanic National Park, such a great day.
Views if the river are awesome. Geckos are friendly and seemed to stay outside. Loved it

Everything about this place was perfect. The house with all the amenities was perfect. They had everything we needed to cook all our meals. The most amazing thing for us was we were right above the river and falls. The sounds of the rushing water was so soothing. The house is huge and accommodated our group perfectly. We definitely highly recommend this place and will definitely stay here again. The communication with management was awesome. We left there so relaxed and blessed.

Amazing waterfall view! Would definitely stay here again.
