About this house rental
Experience the Monterey Peninsula like a local in the owner-hosted and remodeled Willis House in the heart of Pacific Grove on California's central coast. Downtown PG is a short stroll and Lovers Point Park & Beach is just beyond that. A little farther afield are Asilomar State Beach, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and the towns of Monterey, Pebble Beach, and Carmel-by-the-Sea. Day-trippers can enjoy the Big Sur coast, year-round whale watching, and Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. The spectacular Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary enjoys special protection, offers pristine beaches and tide pools, and teems with seals, otters, dolphins, whales, and seabirds. (Note: Children ages 10+ welcome.)
The House and Living Space
Built by William Willis in 1922, this historical home has been remodeled from floor to ceiling. You'll find inviting human-scaled rooms, solid wood furniture, and bright common areas with plenty of windows. The kitchen has a gas range, quality cutlery, cooking equipment, major appliances, engineered stone countertops, and a separate dining area. The bedrooms at the rear of the house, away from the street, are quiet and have blackout curtains and comfortable furnishings. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other has two twin XL beds (which are the same length as a queen bed).
Private Parking and Entrance
Park in the driveway on the side of the house. Enter through the side door by using a personal 4-digit code that we'll provide prior to your arrival (no key is needed). You have full use of the house except for the attic and a small office, both of which are used for personal storage. The detached cottage next door has a video doorbell.
Getting Around
The house's central location is perfect for all things Pacific Grove, Monterey, Carmel, and Pebble Beach. You can fill your day with plans and change them at a moment's notice. Our guests arrive by car, yet many walk or bike for all or most of their stay. Both downtown Pacific Grove and the ocean are a short stroll away. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is a 1.7-mile coastal walk or bike ride, the Pebble Beach gate is a 1-mile bike ride, and Carmel Beach is a moderately hilly 8-mile bike ride. The Pacific Grove portion of the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail has separate paths for walkers and cyclists and offers miles of spectacular views of the ocean and rugged coastline. Longer trips (Point Lobos, Big Sur, Carmel Valley) typically require a car.

AGE 35+ TO BOOK. You must be 35 or older to book this house.
NO THIRD-PARTY BOOKINGS. As the responsible party, you cannot book someone else's stay. You must be one of the guests during the entire stay, from check-in to checkout.
FOUR OCCUPANTS MAX. No more than four guests are allowed in the house, without exception.
KIDS AGE 10+ ONLY. All guests must be of age 10 years or older. The house has features that aren't suitable for young children.
NO PETS OR EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMALS. No pets or emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals are allowed in the house or on the property, owing to the allergic reactions that they provoke. Service dog fraud is unlawful. Details below.
QUIET HOURS. Quiet hours are between 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM by town ordinance. Our neighborhood is quiet, and our neighbors take quiet enjoyment of their properties. No interior noise (music, TV, electronic, or human) can be audible to neighbors during quiet hours.
CHECK-IN. Keyless self check-in between 4:00 PM and 10:00 PM by using the four-digit code that we provide prior to your arrival. Request early check-in in advance.
CHECKOUT. Check out by 10:00 AM. Request late checkout in advance.
PARKING. When you arrive, park in the driveway. The driveway is to the right as you face the front of the house. If you have a second vehicle, then you can park it in tandem in the driveway or on the street in front of the house or yard.
TWO VEHICLES MAX. Guests are limited to two vehicles by town ordinance.
NO OVERSIZED VEHICLES. The driveway cannot hold recreational vehicles (RVs) or tow trailers, nor can they be parked in front of the house. Local laws prohibit parking oversized vehicles on any public street between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM.
NO EV/TESLA CHARGING. The house lacks amperage for charging electric vehicles (doing so on a shared outlet can trip circuit breakers). The nearest Level 3 chargers are two minutes away at 207 16th St, Pacific Grove (City Parking Lot 2). Tesla Superchargers are four minutes away at 200 Country Club Gate Center, Pacific Grove.
NO PARTIES OR EVENTS. No parties, events, or gatherings of more than four people (only checked-in guests) are allowed.
NO VISITORS. No visitors are allowed in the house or on the property at any time.
NO GUEST-SWAPPING. Only the original checked-in guests are allowed in the house. If a guest checks out early, then another person cannot take his or her place.
NO SMOKING, VAPING, OR MEDICINAL MARIJUANA. A violation cancels your rental agreement. Federal law, which supersedes California law, does not recognize or protect medicinal marijuana possession or use.
COOKING RESTRICTIONS. You can prepare meals in the kitchen. Out of consideration for the next guests, you cannot use ingredients the leave strong or lingering odors, including fish, seafood, curry, fermented foods, non-neutral oils, aromatic spices and pastes, chilis, and boldly scented vegetables. Oil-based cooking and deep frying are prohibited. You're welcome to order restaurant delivery or takeout for such meals. A violation forfeits all or part of your deposit for cleaning.
SINK. The sink does not have a garbage disposal. Use the trash for coffee grounds, fruit rinds, and food scraps. Do not pour cooking oil, grease, pan drippings, salad dressings, or sauces down the drain.
NO INCOMING DELIVERIES. Any items delivered directly to the property will be refused and returned to the sender. Instead, take delivery via US Postal Service General Delivery, or at a local UPS Store, FedEx Office, Amazon Hub, or mailbox service.
HOST'S AREAS. The attic and locked storage areas are for the host's personal use. Don't access or enter them. The detached cottage next to the house is the host’s personal space.
NO ANIMALS. No pets or emotional support, therapy, comfort, companion, or service animals are allowed in the house or on the property, owing to the health hazard that they pose to the owner's family members, who suffer from severe asthmatic animal, dander, and feather allergies. This property includes shared space, and so federal law permits excluding all animals as health and safety hazards; the ADA does not overrule legitimate safety requirements. If you bring or check in with an animal, then a Pacific Grove Animal Control officer will be summoned to remove it to a public animal shelter as a health and safety hazard. An animal entering the house cancels your rental agreement and forfeits your deposit for deep cleaning. An animal cannot stay in a vehicle parked on the property. Falsely claiming that your animal is an ADA-compliant service dog is unlawful. California law (§365.7) forbids such verbal or written fraud, and a fake service dog is trivially easy to identify by the behavior of the animal and its handler. Do not risk a ruined vacation without refund or recourse; instead, book one of the many pet-friendly rentals in the area.

Loved this house! Neat, tidy, great local aesthetic without being too “cute.” Chris was friendly and informative and the property was lovely. Not a super short walk, but a very easy one, to dinner and shopping.

The house was just what we were looking for. Visited on a weekend with family for a golf trip, and the house was perfect. Chris was also a very welcoming and warm host. Five stars!

This is a cute house and comfy for a couple and two other teens or adults. Easy parking on a quiet street, easy check in/out and nice amenities. A few block walk to the adorable town with - again - cute coffee shops, restaurants, etc. This was our jumping off point to touring and the 17 mile drive, among other stops, so we weren't at the property much. (If staying longer, we'd probably need a little outdoor space or a bit more room.) Owner was extremely gracious with special treats and advice for touring, and should take great pride in an extremely well maintained home!

Chris’ place is immaculate. He was extremely friendly and there to offer advice. He even helped us in with our bags. He has a really great game collection which our family really appreciated. The neighbourhood is quiet and well situated for exploring the area. We hope to return as it was such a great experience!
