This place was great for what we needed - a couple of nights stay wile touring Volcanoes National Park. It is cozy and quaint. Linda was very helpful with getting us to the popert in the dark. Go with her written directions and not the Google Maps directions and trh to get there when it is still daylight out !

We LOVED our stay at this cottage in the jungle. It was so peaceful and beautiful. The property is magical and so beautifully kept with amazing plants, trees, and flowers. We loved being off the beaten path and away from the tourist bustle. The cottage was the perfect size for our family of 4. It was very clean and the beds were comfortable. We loved that there were two king size beds. The outdoor shower was a delight. The frogs are loud at night but we enjoyed them (they are great background noise to sleep to). It’s close enough to both Hilo and Volcano Park that we could do all the sightseeing we wanted without too long of a drive. The owner was easy to communicate with. If you like being out in nature away from it all, this is the place for you!

Great place to kick back and relax , had everything we needed and was nice and clean . Son enjoyed the chickens and exploring the land the house sits on .

As mentioned in the listing, this place is a cozy getaway in the Ohia rainforest. While it's not a modern abode, its rustic charm is perfect if you’re looking for a country retreat. The water here comes from a catchment system, and even though we ran out on our third night, the host was super quick to refill our tank and fix a clogged filter issue.
This spot is great if you want to escape city life, soak up some nature, and listen to the coqui frogs at night. It gives you a safe, secluded experience without missing out on basics like water, electricity, and internet.

At first it was hard for us Alaskans to deal with the heat. I assumed a hot state would have air conditioning in that area, turns out, most do not. The owner stated it would cool down when night hit and she was right, it became comfortable quickly. This place is beyond amazing, it felt like we were living in another world, every inch of the yard was magical and the sounds were so relaxing. Very clean place with everything you will need. 5 stars easy!

This is a great house away from everything! Fairly close to the national park!

The home was very homey and comfortable. We just relaxed so much and it was close to family. We would stay again.

Lovely area, laundry a bonus, air cooling units a plus, fire detector battery needs changed, a few more towels would be nice, and an extra baking sheet also. A bit dusty and locks could use a spray of silicone regularly. Overall a nice place to stay.

We absolutely loved our stay! The location is perfect, right between Volcano National Park and Hilo. The grounds are amazing and the frogs sang us to sleep every night. The screened in porch is wonderful for coffee in the morning and a glass of wine at night. The house is well maintained and very clean. Highly recommend.

Our family of four (two adults, two boys, 5 & 8) stayed here for 3 nights to explore the east side of the Big Island. We loved it! If you are a nature lover, you should definitely stay here. Every night, we played cards in the screened in porch and listened to the music of the frogs, birds, and other critters (truly special - you need to experience it yourself!). The cabin was the perfect size for us, had a great layout, and had a kitchen with everything we needed. Boys loved playing in the yard/garden and watching the chickens and other birds. I loved listening to the nightly rain on the roof, sipping Kona coffee on the porch, and enjoying the private garden atmosphere. It's close to Hawaii Volcano National Park, but also not too far from Hilo and other area sights. This is one of the most special and unique properties I've stayed in!

Great property. We loved the secluded rainforest surroundings. Spent plenty of time on the screened in porch. Not much in the ways of amenities/attractions nearby, but that was expected, and not necessarily a bad thing. Loved the outdoor shower too.

Very homey feeling Hawaii-style! The kitchen was great, I found everything I needed. The beds were big and comfortable, plenty of blankets for cool evenings in the rain forest. The cute little electric fire place was adorable and the family sat around it. Everything was so clean and welcoming. The washer and dryer were excellent for all the beach towels and laundry. very family friendly.

A fantastic property, very quiet and extremely private. It's like staying in your very own botanical garden!

It is a lovely place to stay. It is fairly clean and tidy. It smells a little mildewy but I think given time of year, and environment, hard to control. The yard is marvelous.
I was disappointed there was no hot tub as the listing indicated there is one. The TV is a smart tv and functional, but doesn't have hardly any apps to use.

The Rainforest Hideaway was a perfect spot for taking in Volcano National Park! The house was not only convenient but charming! Decorated in a casual Hawaiian style - it made us feel like we were truly "living" there and not just visiting!
Situated down a long drive with trees, orchids and a variety of Hawaiian plants - what an experience!
Thank you so much - Mahalo!

As soon as you pull onto the property, you know you're somewhere special. The property grounds are gorgeous, and you feel like you're all alone in the rain forest.
There's no A/C in the house, but it is absolutely not needed. Open the windows and turn the fans on and it is perfect inside. There is also a rainwater catchment system, so they don't recommend drinking the warer out of the faucets. But the owners supply plenty of drinking water, so there are no problems at all!
The location is perfectly situated to be able to spend time in Hilo and explore Volcanos National Park.

This house is located in the middle of rain forest. Beautiful view and charming decoration. Close to volcano park and Hilo. We loved it and would love to visit again in the future.

The property was well maintained and equipped with many of the essentials. The surroundings were beautiful and the screen in patio accommodated four to five people perfectly. Definitely recommend this property.

I booked this after reading the positive reviews and am happy I did so. The rainforest this house is nestled in is endlessly gorgeous. We spent a lot of time out in the screened-in lanai and in the evenings I sat out there with the lights off and eyes closed to enjoy the sound bath of nature. Super meditative! We spent a few days exploring the volcanoes (less than half an hour away) and Black Sand Beach (about an hour). We ate out both nights at Coconut Grill (our kids loved the fare). The house itself is cute, well equipped with fans and appliances. It was great to be able to wash our clothes in the washer/dryer. Beds were comfy. We stayed in our last night and cooked so we could enjoy the house and lanai. We were surprised that we weren't too bothered by mosquitos even though a few slipped in. We tried to seal a tiny hole in the screen in the lanai with the only "tape" we could find (a bandaid). Appliances (stove/oven, microwave, washer/dryer), showers, etc are great, but you may need to bring your own spices, foil, maybe an aluminum pan for baking if you plan to cook a lot, and a lighter for the mosquito coil. (Owner should consider adding a silicone spatula for use with the non-stick cookware). We made breakfast every morning and a fairly elaborate dinner our last night. Grocery stores/restaurants are about 26 minutes away. Once you pull into the property, you will feel like you're on your own secluded tropical island. We loved our stay and hope to return someday.

This is a fantastic, clean, affordable and cozy place to stay. At night the wildlife wakes up and sings you to sleep with really cool croaks, tweets and whistles.
It’s off the beaten path just enough to get some quiet, but still close to the main highway to reach the national park easily.
Owner is very communicative and friendly. A+

This home had everything we needed to spend our two nights comfortably and the location was perfect, not too far from Hilo or VNP. The birds singing in the morning and the coqui chorus at night were my favorite part about this stay :) My kids called it “glamping in the rainforest” haha!
I was concerned about not having AC, but we didn’t even need it (although I think there is a portable one in the living area) and even got a little chilly at night sometimes. The weather was very pleasant when we were here (mid July) and the ceiling fans were enough for us. Also, for those who neeeeed white noise to sleep, there is an air cleaner in the master bedroom!
Things to be aware of:
-the roads leading up to the property are very dark at night. We got to the property around 8-9pm and it was pitch black from the main roads all the way in. Driving in the rainforest at night was an unexpected adventure haha
-if you’re sensitive to mosquitos (aka sweetblooded), you will get bit but that’s expected in a rainforest. We sprayed ourselves with bug spray constantly but still got several bites. Linda does have a lot of mosquito repellent things on the screened lanai to help with this.
-water pressure is pretty low but it wasn’t too bad for the amount of time we stayed. It takes a minute for the bathroom sink to get a good flow.
Overall we really enjoyed our time staying here and would highly recommend it to everyone! Thank you Linda for sharing your beautiful property with us!!

Loved this place. It was nice to be so close to Volcanos NP. The Coqui frogs were a little noisy, but we'd brought earplugs. Hard to get away from them on the Big Island. Nice place with a screened in porch for relaxing. Washer and dryer in an outbuilding (along with the second toilet), which was handy. Enough kitchen things, although make sure you bring some oil (we brought ours). Rain water used for showering, etc. Owner brings water for drinking. Nice place, responsive (no issues). Thanks for hosting!

My family had a wonderful stay. The property is beautiful and the house is well maintained. The proximity to Volcanoes National Park was perfect. We were able to see the volcano erupting and didn't have to drive far to do it! Would stay again!

Our stay was lovely, secluded, and gave us the Hawaiian experience you dream of. Outdoor shower was great, vegetation was lovely, sounds at night of the rain and frogs made it cozy, screened in porch was perfect, home was cute cottage! Would recommend and definitely stay again.

We wanted to stay in a couple of different environments on our getaway to the Big Island, and this Mountain View home situated on 2 acres of tropical rainforest fit the bill nicely. Home was clean and the kitchen was well appointed. Beds were comfortable. Spent much of our time on the screened-in lanai. The grounds were appointed with many tropical flowers and plants. Home was in a quiet neighborhood, located about half way between Hawaii Volcanoes Nat'l Park and Hilo. Trips to Akaka Falls, Hawaii Tropical Bioeserve and Gardens, and Waipio Valley were all within an hour/hour and half drive.
Property manager was friendly, communicative and helpful.

We only stayed here for 2 nights and I wish we could have stayed longer! Perfect place to relax! It was clean and had everything we needed. My son and I enjoyed looking for and finding all the coqui frogs. They lulled us to sleep both nights. Communication with Linda was great. We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in 3 houses on our trip and this one was definitely our favorite. Love the privacy and the sounds of nature. The covered lanai was awesome, we sat there every night. Being so close to the national park was great!

Loved our stay here. Chose the location to visit the Volcano National Park and Hilo side of the island. Property is very well cared for. It’s got the basics for what we needed. The frogs are going all night, so if you aren’t accustomed to nature it might be too much. But if you close the windows and have the fans on, it drowns out the frogs. But we enjoyed everything and would stay here again. Such amazing flora and lushness all around you. Linda is great at communicating if you need anything. Was a great 6 night stay for us. Mahalo!

Driving up to Hale Lehua was like coming to a sanctuary, with peace resonating through the So Much Green. We saw a few endemic birds from the mosquito-free screened in lanai, and listened to the rain on the roof and the frogs calling at night. If you don’t like frog and birdsong, or rural tranquility, this spot is not for you, but if you do, it can be idyllic. Linda was proactive as well as quick to respond to any questions. One note of caution: remember bring your insect repellent: rainforests are ideal mosquito habitat.

All 3 generations appreciated what Linda's place had to offer. The place is clean with a zen vibe. The kids were excited to be surrounded by the rainforest, frogs and occasional visits from chickens. Imagination blooms there. It is a great location if you want to visit Hilo and the National Park, but don’t want to be in the touristy parts for your whole stay. Carlsmith Beach is a must visit for sea turtle viewing. We would stay there again.

We really wanted a place to stay that was surrounded by nature and this place did not disappoint. Beautiful property and all the amenities needed to have a relaxing “home away from home” experience. The only difficulty was having to leave. :). The bed is super comfy and it is very clean and nicely decorated. We would definitely stay here again!

The home was very comfortable for a family of four - ample space for eating, relaxing, and sleeping. The property is situated is beautiful Hawaiian nature, offering beauty right off the doorstep. Very accessible to visit Volcanoes National Park. Linda was a great host - clearly communicating check-in procedures.

We enjoyed our time at this lovely house. The house was comfortable, with everything we needed. The setting was absolutely beautiful! It was perfectly situated between Volcanoes National Park and HIlo so we could easily explore both. We were even able to return to Volcanoes for evening star gazing. Thnks for the great home base during our time on the east side of the island!
