Linda could not have been nicer. We received a warm and friendly greeting upon arrival. Once inside the most gorgeous arrangements of tropical flowers from the surrounding garden and fresh fruit were left for us to enjoy. Attentive without being obtrusive. A unique cottage with lots of individual spaces to spread out - each with its own separate entrance to the outside. Lovely Indonesian furnishings and artwork reflecting Linda’s travels around the world along with an evening serenade of frog song created the peaceful retreat we were seeking for our stay on Hawaii Island. Rustic in the sense that the tap water is not potable and must be filtered prior to use and a fair amount of mosquitoes present to contend with all the nightly rains during our stay late July-early Aug. Citronella candles and spray were provided. We adapted with mosquito nets for sleeping. Hale Meow Meow is an indoor/outdoor experience in a truly special and beautiful setting surrounded by lush and spectacular gardens.

I loved staying here! Beautiful cottage with plenty of space. Peaceful garden with fresh fruit daily. Very friendly host, Linda. She went above and beyond to accommodate our stay. Would recommend to anyone. Such a delightful stay. Will be back!

First thing, the host of this property is very hospitable. She is on the same property as you and will answer any and all questions. Secondly, the property is very unique. If you are not interested in being part of nature then this place isn’t for you. The water is on a catchment system and you or Linda need to get filtered water from her place as needed. The property is beautiful but everything is constantly damp. There are also geckos all over the inside of the house (they won’t bother you) which took us by surprise. There is no washer or dryer in the house either, so keep that in mind if you are depending on those items. Also, there is no microwave which is unusual in today’s world. All in all, we will never forget this place! If this is the type of accommodation you are looking for, then this will be perfect for you. If you are looking for AC and other high end amenities, I’d suggest staying elsewhere. Finally, the property doesn’t have a paved driveway. It is grass and a high clearance vehicle isn’t necessary, but would have been helpful.

Linda is a very nice host.
When we arrived, some fruits from her garden were waiting for us.
The sunsets are beautiful also the garden!
We can recommend staying in Linda's house:)

Linda is a wonderful host, so friendly, helpful and provides fresh fruit and vegetables from the lush garden.
Staying at Hale Meow Meow is quite unique with some aspects that did not come through when reading the description and reviews: The cottage has almost no glas windows to close. Windows are screened (only). This is great if you want to be close to nature. But the higher humidity and cooler temperatures can make it feel uncomfortable at night. This maybe depends on the season. Also, the hwy is very close and naturally you can hear vehicles driving past. You cannot see the hwy from the cottage though. During night nature comes with a cacophony of frogs and crickets. For someone coming from the city the obnoxious sounds can feel overwhelming at the beginning. The mornings and days are so beautiful when the sun is bringing warm and light.
Interior is basic but very clean. The master bed is a bit short for taller people. Linda warned that hot water can be murky. This happened to us when we tried to fill the bathtub. Internet is available but quite slow (better enjoy the great view instead of a Netflix movie).
Overall, the cottage is really beautiful and scenic with a camping feeling to it.

We had a delightful stay in the cottage in Linda's Botanical Gardens! The lush grounds were amazing with many tropical flowers and abundant fruit trees. What more could we ask for when Linda delivered fresh fruit from those trees every morning! Nice views of the ocean from every room of the cottage. The mediation room was an additional nice experience. Everything was clean and comfortable and the kitchen well -supplied. We enjoyed spending time with the resident geckos. :)

Very interesting accommodation. Architecture , art work and Indonesian furniture so interesting. Host was terrific. Left us to our privacy, while completely answering our questions and providing for our needs. Provided a lot of in season fruit grown on the property. It is a botanical and doesn’t get much direct sunlight. If extended forecast advises cool bring some warm layers. A couple of nice beaches short drive 20 minute drive to groceries and restaurants. Memorable!

We enjoyed a wonderful week using Linda’s property to rest, explore, make meals, and sleep to the sounds of frogs, (and roosters!). A truly unique experience. We enjoyed the daily harvest of fresh fruit from the yard or delivered by Linda and regular visita from O.B. the cat and the many geckos who share the house. This is not the place for someone looking for a resort, pool, and umbrella drinks, rather a place for someone wishing to spend their entire stay exposed to the outdoors. We would recommend and hope to return next winter.

We had a fabulous time enjoying Linda's wild and wonderful property. We loved the outdoor shower, meditation room and screened windows to let the breeze in. Our resident cat for the week was hard to say goodbye to. Loved listening to the birds and frogs & watching the geckos patrol the home. Kitchen was well stocked and fresh fruit brought up by Linda was an added treat, the covered bbq was perfect for cooking as well. Close to great snorkeling and lots of interesting local spots. Thank you Linda for making our first trip to Hawaii completely unique and memorable!

Fabulous!!! Away from the hustle & bustle of Kona, this delightful unique gem nestled within a tropical garden, is a great way to relax your soul. It is also in a great location close to some of the best snorkeling on the island. A bonus is the regular visits from OB, the friendly ginger cat.

This property was the ultimate tropical vacation getaway. It was a secluded property that was packed with fruit trees, a beautiful garden and great amenities! The outdoor shower was a new and really enjoyable experience! Linda was a great host who continuously brought us fruits during our stay and was very friendly. Would definitely stay again

So glad we chose Linda's lovely retreat as our base for our 12 night stay on the Big Island. It was great to be able to retreat to the relaxation and beautiful surroundings of this magical place. Loved the bath house and the meditation space. No crowds and always a breeze through the screened windows. Enjoyed the birds and the beautiful plants. It was good to have space to share time with and without the other family members of our party of 4. The frogs at night were a bit much but the ear plugs helped with sleep in the comfortable beds. Kitchen was well equipped and the fresh fruit that Linda delivered from her garden every few days was such a treat. The ever present geckos were a delight as was the resident cat OB(Orange Boy). And Linda was there when we wanted advice on the best way to get to anywhere, etc.

We were so happy we stayed here! Everything about the place was absolutely lovely. This place is perfect if you are looking for a peaceful retreat on the Big Island, with lots of closeness to nature and lots of distance from crowds and city noise. It's a great home base to come back to after day trips around the island.
The house is quite remarkable because it manages to be very modern and clean while also close to nature. The property is basically in a giant garden with all kinds of exotic plants, and it has a lot of open windows (with screens to keep out bugs) and natural light. There is also a very sweet cat and some cute geckos which like to wander along the ceiling (they mind their own business and eat stray mosquitoes). The different rooms are open with lots of windows, but built so that you still have a lot of privacy. The shower is really cool because it's huge compared to a standard indoor shower, and you can hear the forest around you while you shower. Hot water was never an issue.
Linda was also a wonderful host - very friendly and communicative, with lots of stories. Thank you for the tour of the garden!
Overall I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to be close to nature and away from crowds, and who appreciates a more secluded retreat with a personal touch. We were all so happy we found this.

This is the perfect place to (re)connect with nature, people, ourselves. The house is opened on a great garden with an amazing lookout.
Linda takes care of her guests, communication was very easy at every steps.
I warmly recommand Hale meow meow for those who are in search of a true island vibe. Mahalo Linda.

Not a sterile, overpriced, predictable, boring resort. In awe as soon as we pulled in, driving through lush tropical gardens full of nature sounds. Linda was at the gate (which must remain closed and padlocked) waiting for us. Got a quick tour to learn the way of the cottage and off to bed. Frogs lulled us to sleep and birds woke us in the morning. We loved the screened windows and being so close with nature. Geckos stayed on the walls/ceiling and did their jobs by feasting on bugs. OB, the resident kitty, was sweet. We let him in the house as he wanted, and he enjoyed the kitchen. He liked to sleep nights outdoors atop the fruit box. We hope all guests will love and respect OB, as we did. And the geckos. Linda arrived daily with special treats and left an assortment of fresh fruits from her garden. She is a phenomenal woman who taught us much about respecting our earth. We really enjoyed chatting with her daily and she went above and beyond as a host. But if you want to be completely left alone, she will also respect that. She will go far out of her way to ensure the comfort of her guests. Since water is on a catchment system, Linda brought us filtered water for drinking from her own filtered catchment system at her house, which is also on the property. Eveything about our experience was magical: the grounds, the animals, the sounds, the sunsets, the beaches, the fruits, the outdoor amenities, the connection to nature, and Linda. I can't imagine much else living up to this!

This is a special cottage on a beautiful property with an amazing view The fresh fruit every morning was delicious. Linda was very welcoming but also respected our privacy. We loved the outdoor shower and bathhouse. The cottage is in a good location for touring the southern side of the island. Don't expect the pampering of a high-end hotel, but if you want an off the grid experience to relax and reenergize, this is the place for you. Thank you for a stay we will always remember, Linda!

We had a marvelous stay at Linda’s house! Linda is so very accommodating and has such a beautifully constructed and decorated home. We loved watching sunset from the yard, the outdoor bath and shower, cooking in the kitchen with screen windows all around, and enjoyed watching some movies from her large dvd collection! Overall a beautiful and relaxing place to stay with a gracious host!
Mahalo Linda!

This is a very special place to be enjoyed many times. And we certainly will stay here when we return. The traveller will be surrounded by nature, and will be less than 30 minutes from some of the best snorkelling in South Kona. Linda, the host is very kind and welcoming and goes beyond the pale to ensure your comfort.

If you are looking for a true Hawaii experience stay at Hale Meow Meow. The home is a real island home, beautifully decorated with special touches everywhere. A screened in bath tub and napping bed sits in the amazing garden. Fresh fruit from the garden is gifted as it ripens, beach gear is available, the recommendations we had a chance to follow were stellar and Linda, the host, is fantastic. I have been to HI many times and this trip was the best so far. Mahalo Linda

Linda is a kind and generous host who provides fresh fruit in box outside the kitchen door daily. The vegetation around her property makes you feel you are living a botanical garden in Thailand. My children fought over which room they would sleep in and loved their stay here. Just be prepared for how loud the frogs are every night! We miss this place already!

We have never seen anything like this or met anyone like Linda. True Hawaii, living in open air, surrounded by lush tropical foliage and the sounds of animals and the ocean. It's like living in an eccentric adult tree-house with fun, around the world decor and all the amenities you need. Plenty of towels, nice beds, all kinds of extras, including coolers and beach chairs for excursions. It is a blessed piece of paradise and Linda's joy and energy are what make it so special. You don't often meet your VRBO host, but in this case it would have been a challenge to navigate the gate, drive, and setup if a host wasn't there to meet us. Linda is so gracious and so fun to talk to! (Don't get me wrong, it's not like she's always hanging around and you see her everyday) A trip we will never forget!!

Birds, geckos, frogs and fauna. Beautiful spot with a great ocean view. Host was super friendly, helpful and interested. We loved this little piece of paradise as our home away from home.

We had a wonderful week at Hale Meow Meow, thanks to the lovely, comfortable cottage and a caring, knowledgeable host, who looks out for her guests as well as she looks out for her property - thank you, Linda. We loved the openness to the natural world and the sunsets in the evening, exploring the beaches in the area during the day, and hiking at Volcanoes National Park.

The host, Linda, has created a very special environment that takes you away from the hustle and bustle, tourist crowds, and distractions and immerses you in a Hawaii meets Bali eco cottage setting.
It’s the kind of escape that is good for the soul. We enjoyed chatting with Linda as much as hanging out in the artfully and meticulously decorated spaces inside and outside the cottage.
The cottage itself is indoor / outdoor where the many windows are screened but open (no glass) and you get the direct connection with nature: its smells, sounds and sights.
We loved sleeping at night and hearing the symphony of frogs and other sounds, and waking up to the stunning views of the ocean through a lush garden.
The cottage has ample room for a family. The bathroom and shower and attached through a breezeway to the main cottage. We loved that aspect because you are truly living in and out of doors very comfortably and constantly reminded of the beautiful surroundings and nature.
The grounds are lovely and lush, which are meticulously cared for by Linda. Each day you are greeted with a fresh bin of starfruit, mangoes, avocados, lemons, limes, papayas- you name it. And our daily chats with Linda made us feel like we were at a close friend’s guest house.
Just know that it can get chilly at night/early morning due to the openness of the home so bring a couple of sweatshirts to be cozy and comfortable.

We enjoyed all that this house gave us. We were on the run a lot but I could have stayed in this house for two weeks without leaving. The view, the plants, the fresh air - all of it! - was amazing. Linda is very kind and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and enjoyed our conversations with Linda.

No words can describe what a wonderful time we had at this property! Linda is the consummate hostess and made our stay very special. Beautiful gardens surrounding this cottage. Fresh fruit brought to us by Linda from her trees. We loved the location too! Easy to travel to Kona for supplies and to beaches and Volcano National Park. We spent eight nights in paradise! Highly recommend to anyone visiting The Big Island! An experience to never forget!

What an incredible vacation!! Staying at Linda's was like being on our own little jungle island. You would wake up to the ocean, and in the evening you watched the sun go down over the ocean and the frogs would sing you to sleep. I already miss picking oranges and grapefruit to squeeze for juice in the morning and making guacamole from the avocados on the property. We also really miss our gecko friends. Linda was a wealth of knowledge about fruit plants and animals. Great location, not to close to the Kona or Hilo but close enough for a trip when you felt like it. Already trying to narrow down dates for our next trip so we can make sure to stay with Linda again!!!!

We had a great time at Linda's place, it was like staying in a rainforest. Linda has numerous fruit trees on her property and generously left fresh fruit for us during our stay. Her house is beautifully decorated in Hawaiian and Bali styles and is very cozy and welcoming. We had everything we needed to cook any meals in a very spacious kitchen, and there were a couple of very cute geckos in the house who helped out with any mosquitos. Linda showed us around her acreage and talked to us about the island and her property, she is a lovely person who cares deeply about all the creatures she shares her space with. We went to Hilo for a few days of our vacation, but our stay on the Kona side was better in part due to this little gem of a place.
