We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very clean. Ample linens for the 4 of us. The loft had great board game, books and videos to watch.
It took us a bit to figure out on the gate for the gated community you need to push # before the entrance code got the gate to open.
I would have given a 5 over all except at checkout. We had unexpected car issues/break down the Sunday afternoon before Monday AM check out. I requested a late check out, 1-2 hours to get a ride and arrange rental. I was offered till 2p BUT an added $75 fee. Thankfully the local people in Banner Elk and great Uber driver helped out so we could check out by 10a. I thought the added fee was excessive when I paid a lot in added fees already on this rental.

Great spot to relax. House was clean and very comfortable. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return next year

We enjoyed our stay and the beautiful views. The house has a lovely cabin interior with the rustic wood and stone accents. The three bedrooms worked well for us and our 2 teenagers. The kids liked hanging out in the loft while I stayed out on the screened in porch to look out at the mountains.
We would stay here again, but only in summer as our vehicle does not have 4 wheel drive or snow chains.
The only "want to have" would be in the master bedroom, but this is only a want. The bedroom is big enough for a king bed, and as a luxury rental, hopefully at some point, a king bed could be added instead of the queen. The other thing was there are not blinds on the four master bedroom windows next to the bed that face the East. So in the summer, the sun comes directly in the windows at 6:15 a.m., which is not ideal for me on vacation.
But the house is great and we would definitely stay here again.

Screened porch and view was enjoyable. Upstairs shower is terrific (plenty of water pressure and not a low-flow fixture), like the gated neighborhood, close proximity to everything you could possibly need or want to do, and it’s a quiet area. Probably won’t go back but worth a stay once.

The cabin is great and just as described and written about in previous reviews. Was closing to giving it 4 star review as it is odd for having a queen bed in the main bedroom (when the rest of the house was build for very tall people) and no shower downstairs for the two other rooms, but overall enough to keep at 5 stars. Just be aware of both before renting, but worth the stay. Will come back for sure though.

Absolutely perfect!! Couldn't have asked for a better location. The cabin had everything that we needed and then some. Would definitely stay here again!

This place was perfect for our family ski weekend. Close to Sugar Mountain but just off the beaten path away from the traffic. Wonderful area with beautiful views. Would definitely stay here again.

This is our second year staying here and it's been a perfect weekend getaway for our family on each visit! Centrally located between Blowing Rock and Banner Elk with very close proximity to Grandfather Mountain, which makes getting around super easy. Awesome for a weekend of hiking, Grandfather winery, Tweetsie, etc. The house is cozy, clean and perfect for a family with kids. We have only 2 children but certainly could have fit a few additional children with us! Our kids are asking when we can go back!

We enjoyed our time at the Spice Ridge. The house was everything that was promised including a wonderful porch made for relaxing with family.
The house is well maintained with comfortable furniture, great dining area to seat the group (perfect for game night), well stocked kitchen and clean!!!
We brought our pups and they loved the yard! it's a private community with a gated entrance. Houses are spaced and this house has a view to the valley below. It added to the ambiance of the porch. Perfect to escape with family from the city.
Thank you so much for sharing a wonderful retreat.

Our family had a great fall mountain weekend at this house! It is a very well maintained, cozy house and we loved our stay. Nicely located between Blowing Rock and Banner Elk (we spent time in both places over the weekend) and just down the road from Grandfather Winery! We would totally come back!!

Lovely property with well stocked kitchen regarding dishes and small appliances. Keurig coffee maker, electric griddle and blender. Griddle was great for steak prep when it was raining - outdoor grill available, but not under cover. Loved our time on the screened porch which provides wonderful northern mountain views. Just the 2 of us, and we loved the upstairs master suite, adjoining bath and loft area. Main floor bedrooms just as pictured - great for additional family members, however no main floor shower. Soaking tub is small - more for children tub baths. Close to Boone, GF Mtn Winery and Greenway Trail for hiking. Mgt company very responsive to housekeeping issues. Looking forward to a return visit to this lovely, quiet home with beautiful views!
We loved:
Porch/views, well appointed kitchen, master bathroom w seated vanity area, cozy upper loft for relaxing, books/games/dvd selection for rainy days.
Wish list:
Closet access in MBR or loft area to place hang up clothing (currently only drawers available/ closets are locked for owners), current combo washer/dryer unit takes over 2 hrs each cycle - a stack unit may be more efficient. A king bed in the MBR would be grand and might possibly boost rental for those desiring at least 1 king bed. Current queen bed is very comfortable and certainly met our needs.

We had a great week. The house was as described. The property was beautiful. Just what we were looking for. Great location, convenient to Boone, Banner Elk, Grandfather Mountain, grocery stores and restaurants but it felt a million miles away…exactly what my family needed to recharge!

40th Birthday Getaway
I have always wanted to try snow tubing and skiing. Wanted a place kind of near town and other attractions. This local is perfect! Anything you want to go sight-see is only 10 to 15 minutes away. My 7 member adult party fit well on the property. It's jaw dropping, gorgeous and private. I shared the bathroom with 4 grown men. My only regret is no shower downstairs, but we easily accommodated, which means I enjoyed the soak in the tub after night skiing! Will definitely rent this property again and hopefully a winter storm will not rush us out on our last morning.

Spice bottom retreat
The cabin was stocked to the max. The view was spectacular. The cleanest place we have ever stayed, when we have rented cabins. Only a couple of things to know: The owners must be very tall, everything the island, stove, bathroom sinks, very tall. The mattress in the upstairs bed sinks in the middle so 2 people roll together. The bathroom door in upstairs bath is a barn door that is too small so no privacy. But overall a great place. We are making plans for the spring!

A Majestic Mountain Getaway
Our stay was nothing short of amazing. Just minutes away from Grandfather Mountain Winery, The Parkway, Downtown Blowing Rock, and multiple grocery stores. It really doesn’t get any better than this. Nestled up on a mountain side, this gated home exceeded every expectation we had. The home itself was fully equipped with everything from kitchen supplies to board games. Thank you for making our vacation so wonderful.

Perfect Getaway Cabin
I loved the view from the cabin and it was so convenient to be close to so many different places (Boone and Grandfather Mountain especially). The cabin was easy to get to, clean, and the fully equipped kitchen was great for cooking family meals. We were definitely sad to leave.

Private, secluded location up a hill featuring a great view, the home is well appointed, clean and comfortable. Communication was crisp and professional. We enjoyed the quiet family time, and hope to be back. Thank you!

Perfect weekend getaway
Spent a great weekend in Banner Elk with our two young children. We absolutely loved the location of the cabin. It was a short drive to everything we wanted to pack into a weekend-and we did a lot! The cabin is incredibly clean with beautiful views. We enjoyed the firepit one night and the nice cool weather. None of us wanted to leave by the end of the weekend. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful house / views
We enjoyed our stay in October. The house is beautiful, and the view from the mountaintop is outstanding. Our favorite feature of this house are the screened porch with comfy seating, where we drank our coffee each morning and enjoyed the mountain views. The owner has a propane heater on the porch, which made things comfortable despite the chilly mornings. We also enjoyed the cozy seating and large screen TV in the loft area in the evenings, and appreciated the heated floor in the upstairs bathroom. The home has a large mudroom where we were able to store 2 mountain bikes. The check-in process was bumpy for us, but could be easily improved. We arrived at check-in time, but the cleaning crew was still in the house, as well as 3rd person from the property management company. We had to wait outside for about 30 minutes for them to finish up. The property manager let us know before we arrived that the washing machine wasn't working and couldn't be fixed before our stay. They offered us a reasonable discount or the option to move to a different property. They were very easy to reach and quick to respond. Overall this was a great house, and fabulous base for some of the best hiking in NC.

Perfect location to ski resorts. The drive up the mountain is intimidating but it’s easily possible with 4WD, I wouldn’t try driving it without 4WD during the winter months.I would recommend this place and look forward to staying their again!

We really enjoyed our stay. The home is great and the view fabulous. The upstairs loft is so comfy and relaxing. We suggest all wheel drive if you plan to come in the winter. We definitely plan to come again.

Pros & Cons
This is a beautiful property as shown in the photos, and it was a great spot for our four family members to gather. A few concerns: although other reviews praised cleanliness, that was not our experience, especially the kitchen. The stove was a greasy mess that had to be cleaned before use. Some dishes were greasy; washed everything. The kitchen is in need of a deep cleaning and decluttering (e.g. nasty old plastic containers). I’ll also mention the upstairs bathroom door. It’s a sliding barn-style door that is too small for the opening, leaving a one inch gap on either side of the door when fully closed. Lastly, the management company let us know that we would need to provide our own toilet paper, which was kind of weird, even during COVID. We enjoyed our stay, but I wanted to note these things especially while cleanliness is a major concern.

Great Location in High Country
This cabin was absolutely perfect for our small group. The photos on VRBO accurately reflect the condition of the property. The kitchen was fantastic and the view was great. The open concept of the layout made it feel very roomy. We will definitely stay there again. Oh, if you’re into hiking, the location is very convenient to a number of hikes at Grandfather, Beech and off the Parkway. Also, the view from the property is of Snake Mountain on the left In the distance and Elk Knob in the center. Elk Knob is a NC State Park and there is a good trail to the summit with great views.

Beautiful & Cozy
From the moment we arrived we were captivated by the beautiful view and those views only got better as we entered the property. Every morning we enjoyed our coffee at the table with stunning views that we couldn't get enough of! The kitchen was even more beautiful in person and had everything we needed.
The bathrooms were both beautiful. The beds we're very comfortable and my daughter really enjoyed the bunk bed. Waking up every morning to the sunrise view over the mountains was insedescriable. We relaxed in the loft watching our favorite Netflix shows and enjoyed family time playing games. The porch was inviting and so peaceful. We would love to stay here again!!

Amazing cabin!
Such an amazing beautiful escape from the norm. The cabin looked in person exactly like it did online. A true gem! This place is so peaceful. One could easily come here for a week and not leave. The only thing I would change is to make the master bed a king bed and to upgrade the mattress as it wasn't very comfortable. Otherwise this place is top notch!

Wonderful time at Spice Ridge Retreat
We had the absolute best time at Spice Ridge Retreat! The home is gorgeous and nicely furnished. Our family of 6 was comfortable and had plenty of room. The layout of the home is perfect for spreading out OR coming together. The dining table is perfect for large families/groups. The views are amazing and the grounds are well kept.
We will most definitely be returning to this wonderful home in the future! Cannot say enough good things about our experience.
Many thanks to the staff at Carolina Cabin Rentals for being so quick to respond to the couple of questions I had before and during our trip! Great customer service!

Almost Perfect
This was such a beautiful place. The interior was great and the views were perfect. The only recommendation I would suggest to the owner is replace the washer and dryer. They made awful screeching noise and the dryer struggled to dry anything. Other than that, everything was great!

Nice Little Getaway
What an amazing little spot. We drove up Saturday evening, entered through the locked gates and were greeted my 3 little deer and a tiny bunny. The cabin is nestled away in the mountain just far enough away from the busy town life. The house is amazing. We cooked everyday in a chefs dream kitchen. TVs throughout the house. bunk beds for the kids, wood burning stove, fire pit with chairs at the bottom of the hill great for smores, upstairs bed was nice and comfortable. the downstair full bed was not so much. but that was the only downside to a dream like vacation. we checked out Linville falls with a mile loop hike, Linville caverns, Blowing Rock, Grandfather mountain with a mile loop hike, beacon heights with a mile loop hike, Mast General store. all with a 5 and 2 year old plus our 2 month old in tow. it was a great week. the house is immaculate.
