Rooms
Pool was restricted, that’s fine, but even when empty they didn’t allow us to swim. They said it is full. We were waiting there to see if anybody was coming out from the pool are and nobody came out.

Very modern facility, nicely furnished and adequate parking on site.
The shower water temp was luke warm.

Ultra modern
The air conditioning system was not that great when the temperature outside was hot. Minimum temperature was only 18 degrees. The room was very warm

Nice rooms and outside beer garden very nice
Being charged £16 for parking, and being woken at 1.10am by the fire alarm just to be told it was a false alarm.

The bed was comfortable, the staff were very friendly and the air con in the room was lovely
The carpet was covered in stains. The edge of the curtain was not hooked up properly, so as soon as the sun came up just after 4am, the room was so bright. A fire alarm went off at 1am and we were evacuated. When we went down to breakfast, we had to wait for all the hot foot to be replenished.

Good location, friendly staff, nice big room with plenty inside to to keep happy. Free drink at the bar for signing up and staff let us know about this.
Floor in the hotel room was dirty, lots of marks on the carpet in multiple areas, bed sheets had a few small holes in them.

The staff were friendly, nice and relaxed atmosphere. Also close to walk into the centre of York.
Nothing to dislike.

Comfortable, modern and friendly. Close to main amenities a lovely stroll at the side of the river to get to the city centre.
Unfortunately the pool is still undergoing maintenance at the moment but we did know this prior to booking.

The location was excellent looking on to the river..
Very peaceful.

Good location, very clean and when half of the lights did not work in my room due to a electrical problem the maintenance team was very helpful and friendly.
There was an electrical problem with most of the lights in my room, which I didn’t realise until it started to get dark on my first day and I tried to switch the lights on.

Everything, we've stayed here many times and will return. Staff very friendly, spotlessly clean. We had the junior suite, marvellous, big bathroom, great shower 🚿 George the breakfast host, lovely friendly man, met him many times, always makes you feel welcome 😊

Excellent facilities in the disabled access room for my mother. The bathroom was perfect for her needs and she was able to get her electric wheelchair into the room with no difficulty - as long as I was there to hold the entrance door open for her. The entrance door is heavy but we understand that they are to fulfil fire safety requirements however some way of being able to hold the door would help the disabled solo traveller. My room was adjacent to the accessible room and I was really impressed with with the size of the room and the facilities that were in there. The staff are very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble for them and we were always greeted with a smile.
The only thing that I didn't like in my room was the separate bathroom and toilet. The separate toilet room is very small and thankfully I'm not an overweight person and have no problems with flexibility - I'm sure a less able bodied or larger sized person may have trouble getting around the door as the toilet is actually quite close to the door. However, this is the third time I have stayed at this particular Novotel and it wouldn't prevent me from staying here again.

The room was good, big TV. The bed was comfortable, the location is great being within 5 minutes walking distance to the town centre. After checkout, you can leave your car on the secure carpark all day.

The bed was nice
It was a little dirty. What looked like floss on the toilet floor and the shower head was a bit scummy and the carpet had a luminous stain on which I know was their fault or would be easy to get out

We liked the central location with views over the River Foss and a pleasant riverside walk into town. Car parking on site although a bit expensive.
Our room was very clean and comfortable and the reception and bar area welcoming and cheery.
We did not have breakfast as we thought it was rather expensive at £18 per person, so we went out. We also thought the car parking expensive at £16 per day. Unfortunately the advertised swimming pool was closed for refurbishment, but the hotel did inform us of this in advance.

Proximity to York centre (thats why we stayed there)
General lack of joined up thinking (simple things for you to fix) as follows
1) Why have expensive breakfast buffet and make us take the nice riverpath to one of the much cheaper cafes where they even served us? Just make yours a lot cheaper!
2) No "do not disturb" tab for the room so we came back mid day just when (non english speaking) room staff were therefore confused at when we would again be out of the room
3) Please please dont make us do the heavy lifting for registering to save a bob or two on you not changing our towels. Give us the discount for not changing them and make the fussy people register to pay more to have clean towels etc
4) Not obvious that river path means you start walking in the wrong direction to the blue bridge (put a sketch on the sign!)

Spacious and clean
Swimming pool was under maintenance which was one of the main reason why we booked, on our arrival we found out pool was closed and was very disappointed as this is the part my son looks forward to

The Location
The carpets were quite badly stained which spoilt what was an otherwise v clean room, it could have done with a professional carpet clean.
We also knew beforehand that the swimming pool was out of action due to refurbishment but didn't realise there was also work going on with the lifts which was a problem when our room was on the fourth floor.
4.0
Very clean. Quiet and convenient location
Late check-in (4.30) meant most people arrived at the same time so there was quite a wait at reception to check in.
