Location was perfect for our needs
Unfortunately there were people sleeping outside all night and their loud talking disturbed us even with windows closed so didn’t sleep well
3.4
Beautiful property
Location is fab, it was very loud (people in the hotel rather than just on the street outside).
When we were checked in it wasn’t explained to us which room was for which booking, meaning that we took the wrong rooms. In the morning, this was explained to us on reception, but the manager was a little blunt doing so. Having had a poor night sleep, my colleague just chose to check out and head home rather than stay the second night and have to move things between rooms.

I loved the staff, so lovely, the hotel outside is beautiful and the reception and bar area
I feel the rooms could have been a bit more up to date but it was still functional and did the job.
3.4
Location was perfect . Beautiful old hotel
The bed was very uncomfortable, you could feel the springs and every time you moved slightly was uncomfortable and noisy !
3.4
Lovely old property with character
All good and reasonable price for location

Staff were helpful. Loved the Tudor style. Great value breakfast and loved dining in a Tudor room!
Cleanliness was poor, hair behind bath taps, a pile of dust on the bedhead, bedside lamp fit for the rubbish bin. Had trouble getting the bathplug out as it wasn't attached to the chain. Had to get a staff member to pet it out with pliers!
3.4
The staff were very helpful
The shower was dirty and had marks on the wall and tub

great location.friendly staff.old world experience.
no nearby parking,extra for breakfast.
3.4
History, location and willingness/friendliness of staff. Firm guidance given in advance over nearest and best NCP to use was invaluable.
Recovering from hip surgery, so not particularly confident in my movements, I found the bath/shower unusable as I would've needed some form of wall-mounted hand grips to get in/out and steady myself while showering. But, this was part of my learning process to see what I could confidently handle, and this hotel not. Perhaps worth noting that such handles cost next to nothing and take little time to fix but accept that the hotel's listing and construction might rule this out.

Staff really friendly and great location. Basic room great for one night stay
Room did smell of smoke and it was noisy outside through the night but we were on high street at weekend.

The staff are completely lovely. always helpful, go the extra mile

Hotel is halfway down the High Street. Local shop & kebab takeaway opposite both staying open late. I used both at 4am. Staff friendly a chatty. Historic building with plenty of charm.

- beautiful old buildung, located very central
- only cold water (in january!) and no real compensation for this. To be fair: owner contacted us one day before arrival and offered a 15% discount because of the circumstances, alternatively free cancellation. Because it was New Year's Eve, we couldn't find another place in such a short time. We decided to stay one night but ended up paying more because they said there was a special rate for the first night, so in the end no discount or compensation

Loved the hotel and the staff, we had great conversation with all members of staff , they were all lovely, friendly informative and helpful. Loved the feel of the place the history and the building. Will continue to visit.
There was nothing I disliked
3.4
The location was very good and close to all the shops.
There was no hot water, toilet flush didn't work , twice change rooms, uninformed staff, impolite manager

Very charming building with amazing history!! Really kind staff and very clean.
Nothing

Very old historical building. Friendly staff willing to chat and show you the interesting features of the hotel.

A privilege to be able to stay in this 500 year old building in this historic town. Impressive period features worth stopping to look at. The furniture in the rooms blends well with the "old style", whilst the bathroom, TV etc are suitably modern and smart. I could not hear any noise from neighbouring rooms. The dining room is impressive with its period features, though I did not eat there. Friendly, efficient 24 hour reception.
An excellent location in the centre of town, in the Red Lion Walk precinct of boutique and independent craft and food shops.
Easy to walk to the two train stations, Castle museum, shops and leisure facilities.
The mattress on the bed could have been better.
It can be a little noisy outside with the bars and restaurants, but you either embrace this as part of the charm of being in the city centre or stay outside of the city.
The floorboards creak! - but it is an old building.

great location, loads of character and history, comfortable, friendly staff, good value
3.4
Not much costly room, but location is terrible
Continually someone knocking on our door from 3-4 days, even after complaining staff there doesn't have getting any action against that
3.4
Great location. Very quiet at night, even though in the town centre. Very historic place, nice bar/restaurant area.
Smell of damp in the room. Very poor water pressure in the shower. Desperate need of refurbishment in the room.
3.4
I love the location, quite easy to get around.
I wasn't expecting to climb such stairs with my luggage in order to get to my room. I had help checking out though, which I appreciated compared to when I checked in.

The Red Lion is located right on the High Street and central to everything. It is a quirky very old building with multiple levels and stairs. It was quiet and discreet and the staff was excellent.
Due to its age it is a bit faded, however it is clean and well kept. The rooms are small but comfortable and the bed was nice and comfy.

Central Location, interesting historic building. good breakfast
Bit of a walk from the pay/display car park.
3.4

Fire exit is locked over night. The main one! The one it tells you in your rooms to leave....i f the bar is open you also have to wait for the receptionist to finish pouring drinks before he can go downstairs and open your emergency door
3.4
The history of the property is amazing. several hundred years of amazing history. and the staff were so friendly.
The rooms on the front of the hotel on are the high street where two pubs/clubs are located. Loud noises until almost four am meant no sleep. The bed needs replacing. the springs were horrible. The bath is peeling and was rough to touch on edges and not fully cleaned. instant coffee in the morning didn’t help after only sleeping three hours.
3.4
Friendly staff.
Shower, furniture, space, bed.
3.4
Dirty room. Shower didn’t work. Noisy. Bed was uncomfortable and could feel the springs.
3.4
location is handy
room was filthy, bathroom looked mouldy, rubbish left in room from previous people not cleaned up. I ended up moving the guest to another hotel. there was also no hot water and when she went to check out, they couldn’t find her luggage for about 30
mins!
