Amazing staff
Slightly dated bathrooms

Beautiful setting, bars and restaurants were lovely and the staff were excellent
Bathroom a little tired and breakfast was not hot

Clean, lovely gardens, spacious rooms
Paying extra for spa area use

Beautiful, relaxing so much to explore, room
Was excellent, lovely view, food was incredible. Staff couldn’t be friendlier
Lots of stairs to get to room, but staff did offer to carry bags of us
3.0
Staff, nice building
Room was far too small, and cramped. Small bed, not value for money
3.0
A good historic building in well maintained grounds. Staff all very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was in generally good condition, a good size and with a comfortable bed.
Lots could have been better. There's a general unpleasant smell through the property. Charging extra for use of the spa is unacceptable. Breakfast food was cold. Restaurant lacked ambience. Bedding was dirty - they changed at our request.

I know Down Hall as I walk my dog there often, the location is amazing and the facilities are excellent. I had a dog friendly room as I brought my Westie with me and he loved his welcome box of a tennis ball, treats and dog food. Your staff are incredible, especially Kevin who works i the Fox Bar and The Terrace and also Sharon from Housekeeping. Slight difficulty checking out but your staff were amazing and dealt with everything so well. Loved the outdoor cinema too!

The hotel is set in beautiful grounds. The building is lovely and well-looked-after. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and service was excellent. The hotel hosts a number of interesting activities. Whilst we stayed there was an outdoor cinema. Unfortunately the weather was bad so we didn’t make the most of that but, had it been a warm evening, it would have been lovely. The bar and restaurant are both great too. The spa treatments were wonderful too! Well worth a visit.
Unfortunately the Wi-Fi wasn’t reliable and the shower pressure in the room wasn’t great. Otherwise, loved it.

I was in an exceptionally noisy room. Didnt sleep a wink

Grounds, rooms, features, staff, facilities, food, building, architecture.... everything
Having to wait over an hour for 2 sandwiches with room service
3.5
The building and rooms were stunning. The treatment was fantastic. The food was amazing.
The walls were far too thin. We didn't get much sleep because of certain 'activity' going on in other rooms. It was quite disturbing.
4.5
Lovely hotel with spacious rooms. Nice spa. Fun atmosphere at the bar. Staff members were kind and helpful. Great for a spa weekend away, or even a bachelorette party.
The food was inconsistent. We had a lovely experience in the main dining room, but some of the dishes served at the bar weren't nearly as good. This had nothing to do with the staff by the way. All the bartenders and servers were friendly and provided excellent service.

Everything was brilliant and the weather
Also was upgraded - which was a real treat
The walking trails were closed - that’s it

great location, beautiful grounds, spacious rooms and good room service breakfast
impossible to get into the spa even when trying to book a week in advance and with lots of flexibility on timings. restaurant manager addressed everything to Sir (how’s the wine Sir? how’s your meal, Sir? thank you Sir) even though ‘Sir’ didn’t make the booking and didn’t pay the bill

Having paid £490 to upgrade to an executive room, we found the facilities sadly lacking compared to other hotels. There were no slippers, bath robes or even a shower cap in the bathroom. The wardrobe only had 4 hangers in it, not enough for 2 people away for 2 nights. The room was large but not very warm, in fact the large bathroom was warmer than the bedroom. Our bed was supposed to be a king double, but was two single beds pushed together. This made it very uncomfortable and even the pillows weren't good. The bath did not hold water for very long, it was draining away as soon as you got in it. In fact the bath taps were actually sink taps! We found the breakfast to be poor on both mornings, a 10 minute wait for 2 fried or poached eggs is unacceptable. The rest of the cooked brakfast was either cold or overcooked. I appreciate it is not easy to cater for so many people but I thought it would have been better to order breakfast fresh as it used to be when we first came to Down Hall. This hotel has sadly gone downhill so we won't be returning, which is a shame as the place is lovely and the staff were all friendly and helpfull. An awfull lot of money to pay for a below average weekend away.

the afternoon tea was a little pricey on comparison to others we have had in the past but it was lovely.

there was nothing that we didn’t like.

The building was lovely and the gardens extensive. Traditional style rooms. Staff were helpful.
Looking tired. Not a wow for the money. Bedding was poor. Felt cheap and not crisp or fresh. The ones at home were far superior. Only 2 sachets of coffee. No information booklet/ menus in room. Breakfast very standard.

Good spa. Good facilities. Potential to be fantastic place to visit.
Checked in - no answer for room service. Trying to spend money. Spent an hour trying to call room service, no answer. Went to reception, long queue.
After going out for the afternoon came back to be told no food is served after 9pm. No bar food. No snacks, not even a bowl of nuts. Had to order a dominos. To be told I could only eat this in my room, you have a massive outdoor space with nobody outside and I can't eat a dominos with friends.
Nice cigar menu. Thought it would be better to order a nice cigar. Ordered one. Was told by a member of staff they cant find the key to the cigar lockup. Moaned to another member of staff, he found it.
Cold full English breakfast in the morning.
Potential to be fantastic. Nightmare to try and spend money/have a good time/enjoy the service. Staff miserable and unhelpful bar 1 or 2.

Venue magnificent and facilities excellent , setting is beautiful
One section of the hotel is red hot IE heat wave like temperature coming from the bathroom. Cannot cool it down. Unbearable all night. Could not get prepared for wedding as was sweating just moving around the room. Staff said the age of the building is the reason.
4.0
elegance and well maintained beautiful inside & lovely gardens.
Restaurant room was not in keeping with rest of hotel. There was no grandeur and very modern. lt was too small to accommodate the high demand with low capacity. Extremely loud.
staff fantastic but understaffed and under pressure. Food was fantastic.
